Elida Garcia
1931-2003
Elida Garcia, longtime Snyder resident, died Tuesday, June 17, in Abilene Regional Hospital in Abilene.
Services for Mrs. Garcia, 72, are pending at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born on April 14, 1931 in Robstown, Mrs. Garcia had lived in Snyder since 1950. She had worked for many years at Snyder Laundry and Dry Cleaning, and did upholstery for Dunham Mattress Factory and Fenton Furniture.
Survivors include her husband, Arnulfo Garcia Jr. of Snyder; a daughter, Andrea Snider of Liberal, Kan.; a son and daughter-in-law, Louis and Mary Garcia of China Grove; a sister and brother-in-law, Evangelina and Rick Yruegas of San Antonio; and a grandson, Joshua Snider of Liberal, Kan.
Eris Rasor
1924-2003
ABILENE -- Eris “Tootsie” Rasor, a native of Scurry County, died Wednesday, June 18, in an Abilene hospital.
Graveside service for Mrs. Rasor, 78, was set for 11 a.m. today in the Mount Hope Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Walton officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Lawrence-Adams Funeral Home.
Born July 7, 1924 in Scurry County, she married Clealen “Ross” Rasor on June 6, 1974 in Colorado City. He died in 2002.
A homemaker and a Baptist, Mrs. Rasor moved from Waco to Abilene in 1999.
She also was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dessie Pearl (Bird) Woodard.
Survivors include a daughter Nancy Newman of Abilene; three sons, Kenneth Rasor of Flower Mound, Kenneth Crowder of Elgin and Mike Rasor of Irving; a brother, Rex Woodard of Weatherford; two sisters, Muriel Grubbs of Sweetwater and Letha Merritt of Lubbock; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Jane Mosley
1929-2003
Bessie Jane Mosley, 73, died Saturday, June 21, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral service for Mrs. Mosley is set for 11 a.m. Monday in Northside Baptist Church. The Rev. David Phillips, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Dec. 3, 1929 in Shackleford County, she married Glen Mosley on March 5, 1949 in Rotan. He died Feb. 21, 2003. A daughter, Glenna Mosley, also preceded her in death.
A homemaker, Mrs. Mosley was a member of Northside Baptist Church and held several offices in the Ladies’ Auxiliary.
Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Mosley of Abilene and Angela Treat of Colorado City; a son, Frank Mosley of LaVon, Texas; and three grandsons, Eric Treat of Austin, Shawn Mosley of Wylie and Jeremy Mosley of Farmersville.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
David Petersen
1952-2003
David G. Petersen, a petroleum engineer, died Sunday, June 22, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mr. Petersen, 50, is set for 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Word Is Life Church. The Rev. Tony Wofford, pastor, and the Rev. Walter McCall, Odyssey Hospice chaplain, will officiate. Interment will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born Oct. 11, 1952 in Elk City, Okla., he graduated from Reydon High School in Oklahoma in 1970. He earned his B.S. and M.S. degrees in agricultural engineering from Oklahoma State University and in 1976 became a licensed pilot.
He worked in engineering research at Kansas State University then worked for Phillips Petroleum as a environmental engineer.
In 1981, Mr. Petersen enrolled in the University of Oklahoma where he obtained his degree in petroleum engineering in 1982. While at OU, he worked as a research assistant.
He then worked as a field engineer for Gulf Oil in Vernal, Utah, and then as production engineer in Rangely, Colo., for Chevron.
Mr. Petersen transferred to Snyder in 1990 and continued with Chevron and Pennzoil until 1998 when he became a engineer for Primrose Inc. until 1999.
He married Dorothy Gauss Fisher on May 24, 1990 in Snyder.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Petersen of Snyder; a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Brian Fields of Fort Worth; a son, Bryan Fisher of Phoenix, Ariz.; a brother and sister-in-law, John and Teresa Petersen of Pawnee, Okla.; and three nieces, Tracy, Jill and Christy Petersen.
The family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, Box 1356 in Snyder, 79550.
Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 this evening at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
John Voelkel
1941-2003
John Andrew Voelkel Jr., 62, died Saturday, June 21, in Cogdell Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Funeral mass for Mr. Voelkel was set for 2 p.m. today in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church with Fr. Roy Badillas, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Memorial Gardens under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Born June 1, 1941 in New Orleans, Mr. Voelkel was disabled and had lived in Snyder since 1961. He had previously lived in Perryton and Premont.
Survivors include his father, John A. Voelkel of Snyder; and two sisters, Sylvia Voelkel of Snyder and Judy Green of Midland.
O.K. Fletcher
1915-2003
ARLINGTON -- O.K. Fletcher, a former Snyder resident, died Friday, June 20, in Fort Worth.
Graveside service for Mr. Fletcher, 87, is set for 1 p.m. Tuesday in Lawnhaven Memorial Park in San Angelo. The Rev. Miller Robinson of Snyder, retired Baptist minister, will officiate.
Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 this evening at Arlington Funeral Home.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Fletcher was a longtime superintendent for Sun Oil Co. before retiring and moving to Arlington.
Mr. Fletcher was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Hope Lodge No. 471 in Rio Grande City. He also was a member of the Tate Springs Baptist Church in Arlington and a former member of Colonial Hill Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son O.K. Fletcher II and his wife Carolynne of Arlington; a stepson, Benjamin Franklin of Dillon, Colo.; and a grandson, John Eastman of Keller.
Arlie Norman
1927-2003
Arlie Y. Norman, a native of Scurry County, died Sunday, June 22.
Funeral service for Mrs. Norman, 76, is set for 1 p.m. Wednesday in the City of Lubbock Cemetery. Arrangements are und er the direction of Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home.
Born Jan. 3, 1927 in Fluvanna, she married James B. Norman on March 11, 1947 in Rising Star. He died Oct. 18, 1998.
A resident of Lubbock since 1947, she had worked for Lubbock National Bank and retired from Randolph Manufacturing. Mrs. Norman was a member of the Sunset Church of Christ.
She also was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Miller, in 1993.
Survivors include two daughters, Sandra Wilson of Lubbock and Pat Bowman of Houston; three sons, Rex Norman of New Braunfels, Riley Norman of Spring and Terry Norman of Lubbock; a brother, Riley B. Wills Jr. and her mother-in-law, Velma Norman.
Billy Green
1927-2003
H.F. “Billy” Green, a longtime resident of Snyder, died this morning in Bender Terrace Nursing Home in Lubbock after a lengthy illness.
Funeral service for Mr. Green, 75, is set for 10 a.m. Thursday in Hillside Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Kevin O’Brien of Lubbock officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
He was born April. 10, 1927 in Weatherford and was a farmer.
Mr. Green was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Hildreth.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Koonce of Snyder and Denise Jorgenson of Lubbock; a son, David Green of Snyder; a sister, Dorothy Gill of Snyder; a brother, John Green of Snyder; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 7:30 this evening at Bell-Cypert-Seale Funeral Home.
Faye Scott
1961-2003
COLORADO CITY -- Funeral service for Brenda “Faye” Scott, the sister of Shirley Scott of Snyder, is set for 11 a.m. Thursday in the Kiker-Seale Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Henry Lee will officiate and burial will follow in the Mitchell County Cemetery.
Ms. Scott, 42, died Saturday, June 21, in Mitchell County Hospital after becoming ill at the Juneteenth celebration in Ruddick Park.
Born Feb. 10, 1961 in Colorado City, she was a lifelong resident and had worked in the laundry department at Kristi Lee Manor.
Survivors include her husband, Johnny K. Williams of Colorado City; her parents, Roy and Lurline Scott of Colorado City; two daughters, Tracy Scott of San Antonio and Shanika Myers of Camp Pendleton, Calif.; a son, Mickey Green of Colorado City; five other sisters, Elizabeth Jackson, Joyce Scott and Kathy Johnson, all of Colorado City, Carolyn Lenford of Abilene and Linda Scott of Arlington; and six grandchildren.
