Simmons
MILANO – Funeral services for Donald Ray Simmons, 74, of Milano, were held at 2 p.m. Friday at Green-Patterson Funeral Home Chapel in Cameron with Rev. Mike O’Neil and Dr. Joe Weldon Bailey officiating. Burial followed in Gause Cemetery in Gause.
Mr. Simmons died Monday, Dec. 3 in a Cameron hospital.
He was born Feb. 14, 1927 in Rockdale to Willie Ely and Artie Alice Ford Simmons. Mr. Simmons was a Baptist and retired from Alcoa’s Rockdale Operations. Mr. Simmons also served the U.S. Army in World War II in Japan.
Survivors include a son, Steve Simmons of Milano; two daughters, Donna Gilbert of Cameron and Marilyn Woods of Copperas Cove; two brothers, Eddie Simmons of Cameron and Horace Simmons of Buckholts; a sister, Reba Sain of Waco; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Beckhusen
CAMERON – Funeral services for Mary Lou Beckhusen, 70, of Rogers were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001, at Marek-Burns-Laywell Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. David Cox, John Gantt and Bill Harris officiating. Burial followed in Hope Lutheran Memorial Park in Buckholts.
Mrs. Beckhusen died Wednesday, Dec. 5, in a Temple hospital.
A retired bookkeeper for GMAC in Waco, she was born July 16, 1931, in Leroy to John Wesley and Soloma Leona Malcom Gardner.
Mrs. Beckhusen was a member of Davilla Baptist Church and a member of the Jail Ministry.
An accomplished poet and playwright, she was listed in the southwestern Who’s Who of Poetry.
Preceding her in death was a brother, John Wesley Gardner Jr., and two sisters, Thelma Jean Howard and Fay Knight.
Survivors are her husband, G.H. (Beck) Beckhusen of Rogers; a daughter, Dale Frances Beckhusen of Rogers; two sisters, Elizabeth Bolding of Cameron and Naomi Shoemake of College Station.
Memorials may be made to Davilla Baptist Church or the Gideons Bible Society.
Pemberton
CAMERON – Graveside services for Holbert Vernon (H.V.) Pemberton, 94, of Temple and formerly of Cameron were held Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2001 at 2 p.m. at the Liberty Community Cemetery with Rev. Bob Laughlin officiating. He died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001 in a Temple nursing facility.
Mr. Pemberton was born in the Liberty Community of Milam County to Frank and Nora (Boggans) Pemberton. Before retiring in 1975, he attended the health needs of many at Newton Memorial and St. Edward’s Hospitals in Cameron.
Mr. Pemberton was preceded in death by his parents, sister Cora Pemberton Partee and brothers Rev. W.C. Pemberton and E.M. Pemberton.
Surviving are: Sister, Nora Frances Cole of Temple; three brothers, Rev. Garlon L. Pemberton of Biloxi, Mississippi, Rev. Modest S. Pemberton of Escondido, California and Johnny Ray Pemberton of Temple; 11 nieces, nine nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
Foster
CAMERON – Funeral services for Juanita Savannah Foster, 90, of Weatherford, formerly of Cameron, were held at 2 p.m Saturday, Dec. 8, 2001 at Green-Patterson Funeral Home Chapel in Cameron with Rev. David Starkey officiating. Burial followed at Rice Cemetery in Cameron.
Mrs. Foster died Wednesday, Dec. 5 in a Weatherford nursing center. She was born Dec. 13, 1910 in Rockdale to Lewis and Georgia Walker Shelton. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Cameron.
Mrs. Foster was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Lee Foster, in 1991.
Survivors include a stepson, James Foster of Possum Kingdom Lake; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Fulkerson of Lubbock; two sisters, Ethel Medlin and Vivian Pinkert, both of Lubbock; 8 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Laurence
CAMERON – Funeral services for Millie Ozell Mowdy Laurence, 82, of Cameron, will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001 in the Lawrence Cemetery near Taylor with Rev. James E. Lafferty officiating. She died Tuesday, Dec. 11. 2001 in a Rosebud nursing facility.
Mrs. Laurence was born April 7, 1919 in Cameron and was a nurse’s aide at the Cameron Nursing Home for many years. She was a Baptist.
Surviving are: Son, Curtis Gill of Maysfield; sister, Opal Young of Cameron.
Patschke
THORNDALE – Services for Celebration for Evelyn Patschke, 75, of Thorndale will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2001 at St. John Lutheran Church in Thrall with Rev. Walter Miller officiating. Burial will follow at Taylor City Cemetery. She died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001 in a Temple hospital.
Mrs. Patschke was born Oct. 30, 1926 to Henry George and Bertha (Synatzske) Zuehlke, in Williamson County. She was a lifelong resident of the Thorndale-Thrall area, graduating from Thrall High School.
Mrs. Patschke married Elmo Patschke on Dec. 21, 1945 at St. John Lutheran Church in Thrall. She was a homemaker and was an active salesperson with Avon Cosmetics for over 43 years. She was a member of Avon’s President’s Club, which is the highest level attainable in sales, for many consecutive years.
Mrs. Patschke was also a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Thrall and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary of Thorndale. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmo and a daughter, Betty Patschke.
Surviving are: Son, Garry Patschke and wife Jeanie of Thorndale; brother, Kenny Zuehlke of Thorndale; sister-in-law, Pauline Patschke of Temple; brother-in-law, Clarence Patschke and wife Hope of Thorndale; two grandchildren, Jonathan and Laura Patschke of Thorndale; numerous nieces and nephews and many, many friends of whom she enjoyed their companionship.
Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church of Thrall, the VFW of Thorndale or the American Cancer Society.
Braun
Funeral services for Doris Elaine Braun, 51, were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan, 25, 2002 in St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem with Rev. Bob Myers officiating. Burial followed in St. James Lutheran Cemetery in New Wehdem. She died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002 in the Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale.
Mrs. Braun, a Black Jack Community resident since 1972, formerly of Rockdale, was born Aug. 16, 1950 in Brenham to Fritz and Viola (Quade) Jaehne. She and Calvin Braun were married Feb. 11, 1969 in Brenham.
Mrs. Braun worked with preschool children at First Baptist Church in Rockdale, McDonald’s in Rockdale and then Southwest Milam Water Supply in Rockdale. She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church in New Wehdem and was confirmed and baptized at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Brenham.
Mrs. Braun was educated in Brenham school system and Blinn College. She enjoyed children, arts and crafts, involved in Little League baseball, Cub and Boy Scouts, Sunday school and Bible school, volunteered at Rockdale Schools, Christmas Roundup and was active in the Black Jack Volunteer Fire Department.
Mrs. Braun was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Roger Jaehne; cousin, Dorothy Lehrmann; aunts, Lydia Lehrmann and Mamie Quade; friend, Cookie Winklemann.
Surviving are: Husband, Calvin Braun of Rockdale;; sons, Elan Braun and fiancee Trish and her son Michael Bradford of College Station and Kase Braun of Rockdale; brother, Fritz Jaehne and wife Diane of Brenham; sisters-in-law, Beverly Jaehne of Brenham and Jewell Ellis of Austin.
Pallbearers were Melvin Winklemann, Stanley Caffey, Clinton Broeker, Don Jaehne, Mark Andrejczak and Frankie Matura.
