Robert E. Allen, Ret. M/Sgt.
A military graveside service for Robert E. Allen, Ret. M/Sgt., 80, of Sulphur Springs will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 19, 2004 at Restlawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Services will be conducted by the Hopkins County Military Coalition, who will also be serving as pallbearers.
There will be no formal visitation.
Mr. Allen died at 8 a.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at his residence.
He was born on Aug. 25, 1923, in Dallas, to James W. and Ollie King Allen. He married Marilyn Cole on Aug. 10, 1946, in Dallas. She survives.
Mr. Allen was a retired master sergeant of the U.S. Air Force, having served 22 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Sulphur Springs.
Other survivors include one son, James Allen of Sulphur Springs; two grandchildren, Crystal and Christopher Allen.
Mr. Allen was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, J.E. "Ed" Allen.

Tommie Gay Greer
Funeral services for Tommie Gay Greer, 91, of Winnsboro will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004 at Beaty Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. James McLeod officiating.
Interment will be in Harmony Cemetery in Hopkins County with Greg Chitsey, Brian Clanton, Mark Johnson, Harold Stanley, James Stanley and Kenneth Stanley serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Tony Crow and Benny Cowser.
Visitation will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, March 19, 2004 at the funeral home.
Mrs. Greer died Wednesday, March 17, 2004 in Tyler.
She was born on Jan. 5, 1913, in Hopkins County, to Oscar H. and Dessa C. Stanley Johnson. She married Eurie C. Greer on May 16, 1942. He preceded her in death on Feb. 6, 2001.
Mrs. Greer was a homemaker. She also taught at Center Hill, Winterfield and Glad Branch Independent School Districts. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Winnsboro.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Greer of Western Springs, Ill. and John Greer of Winnsboro; two brothers, Stanley Johnson of Winnsboro and John Lewis Johnson of Hialeah, Fla.; two sisters, Bobbie Jean Chitsey of Rowlett and Betty Sue Clanton of Richardson; one grandson, Zach Greer of Western Springs, Ill.
Mrs. Greer was also preceded in death by her parents

Richard Short
Graveside services for Richard Short, 82, of Sulphur Springs will be held at 12 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2004 at Warwick Cemetery in Warwick, N.Y.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 18, at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home.
Mr. Short died at 1:20 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, 2004 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
He was born on Jan. 15, 1922, in Lake City, Iowa, to Leland and Vivian Jones Short. He married Winifred Waltmire. She preceded him in death in 1987.
Mr. Short was a retired chemist. He served in the U.S. Navy, during World War II.
Survivors include one daughter, Carol Peabody of Easton, Penn.; sons, Randy Short of California, Md., Roger Short of Humble, Ralph Short of Painted Post, N.Y.; one sister, Beth Shelton of Maryland; three brothers, Morris Short of Houston, Russell Short of Decatur, Ill., Robert Short of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren, Mitchell Peabody, Natalie Peabody, Jason Peabody, David Short, Elaine Short, Brian Short, Caitlin Short, Breanna Short, Michael Short, Mason, Michael and Mark; one great-grandchild, Taylor.
Mr. Short was also preceded in death by one brother, Howard Short.

William Brian Boles
Funeral services for William Brian Boles, 28, of Sulphur Springs was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with John Odom officiating.
A military graveside service followed at Brashear Cemetery, conducted by Hopkins County Military Coalition, with David Ball, Mike Robinson, Jason Fargo, Ira Pierson, Bruce Boles and Ryan Tennison serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Boles died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, March 13, 2004 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. He was born on Feb. 29, 1976, in Sttugart, Germany, to William R. and Christina J. Duda Boles. He married Valerie Ponder on Nov. 6, 1999, in Reilly Springs. She survives.
Mr. Boles was a correctional officer with TEC. He served in the U.S. Army. He was of non-denominational faith.
Other survivors include one son, Brendan Kyle Boles of Canton, his parents, William R. and Christina Boles of Sulphur Springs; two sisters, Shelia C. Barrios of Tennessee and Cynthia Maria Fargo of Houston; his grandmother, Shirley Ann Duval of Sulphur Springs; and his great-grandmother, Ruth Boles of Arlington.
Mr. Boles was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Rev. B.L. Thornton
Funeral services for the Rev. B.L. Thornton, 86, of Sulphur Springs will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at Sulphur Springs Church of God with Pastor Kirk Routon and Rev. Othoe Stegall officiating.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at Rose Hill Cemetery in Pittsburgh with Roger Thornton, Brad Redwine, Michael Ramsey, Dean Berry, W. L. Winnett and Dwayne Fox serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers include Jimmy Davis, Jerry Pritchett, Joe Campbell, Elmo Anderson, Don McDonald, Billy Wayne Frazier, L.E. Richardson, Troy Hatcher, Wayne Parker, Archie Fluitt, Bobby Berry, W.O. Watwood, Earl Murray, Troy Nichelson, Gerald Burnett, Roy Sims, Kenneth Ishmael, David Talley and Charles Wylie.

Rev. Thornton died at 2:08 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2004 at Carriage House Manor in Sulphur Springs.
He was born on Oct. 10, 1917, in Amite County, Miss., to Henry B. and Annie Elizabeth Freeman Thornton. He married Lucy Lea Murray on Aug. 8, 1944, in Meadville, Miss. She survives.
Rev. Thornton was a retired minister and had pastored several churches in Mississippi and Texas. He pastored in Sulphur Springs from 1969 to 1974. He served in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of Sulphur Springs Church of God.
Other survivors include four sons, Raymond Thornton of Pampa, Wayne Thornton of Pittsburgh, Sam Thornton of Bedford and Bernie Thornton of Mesquite; five brothers, Pat Thornton, Barney Thornton, Burnette Thornton and Donald Thornton, all of Smithdale, Miss. and Glenn Thornton of Jackson, Miss.; one sister, Lelia Mae Murray of Liberty; six grandchildren, Dr. Susan Thornton Redwine, Tawnette Ramsey, Roger Thornton, Jennifer Thornton, Shana Jolicoevr and Courtney Thornton; and five great-grandchildren, Kayla Thornton, Carley Thornton, Kristin Ramsey, David Ramsey and Austin Thornton.
Rev. Thornton was preceded in death by one brother, Alton Thornton; one sister, Johnnie Nichelson and one grandson, Steve Thornton.
Nellie G. Cranor Tate
Funeral services for Nellie Grace Cranor Tate, 72, of Bartlesville will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2004 at New Harmony Baptist Church in Bartlesville, Okla. with the Revs. Tom E. Cox and Ralph O Dershem officiating.
Committal prayers and interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Arnold Moore Funeral Service in Bartlesville, Okla.
No formal visitation will be held, although a viewing may be held until she is removed to the church for final rites on Tuesday afternoon.
Mrs. Tate died at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 2004 in Bartlesville, at the family residence.
She was born on Dec. 30, 1931, in the rural Oglesby area, to Jack and May Cranor. She married Jim I. Tate Jr. on March 14, 1953. Her husband of 51-years survives.
Mrs. Tate was a Washington County native. She was one of 12 children. She and her husband were prominent dairy farmers and were involved in the Bartlesville community. She spent her childhood on her parents dairy farm and attended grade school at Steels Camp. She continued working on the farm, cooking for farm hands until she married. She and her husband lived in Bartlesville, where they worked on the family dairy until January 1955. She then moved to Oaklawn, Ill., where her husband was stationed with the United States Army until October 1956, then they returned to Washington County, Okla., where she and her husband continued to work on the family dairy and took over management in 1959. She and her husband produced a herd of national champion Brown Swiss cattle. She was active in Dairy Maid. She was a Washington County 4-H leader and an avid gardener. She was also involved with the Harmony Home Demonstration Club and remained active and supported the 4-H program until her sons graduated high school. She was lso active as an election board worker for Precinct No. 75 in Washington County. She was a member of New Harmony Baptist Church.
Other survivors include three sons, Jim I. Tate, III and his wife, Sherri Gayle, Sulphur Springs, John Allen of Bartlesville, Okla. and Jerry Wayne Tate of Luther, Okla.; one brother, Jackson W. "Jack" Cranor of Bartlesville, Okla.; five sisters, Mrs. Florence M. Kitchen of Kansas City, Kan., Rhoda B. Blum of Copan, Okla., Addie M. Myers of Dewey, Okla. Julia V. Murray of Lindsey, Okla. and Naomi J. Owens of Bartlesville; four granddaughters and three grandsons, Ashley Dawn Tate, Harmoni Gayle Tate, Mackinzey Leigh Tate, Jamie Marie Tate, Jim "Jay" I. Tate, IV, Jordan Allen Tate and Lance Webb Tate.
Mrs. Tate was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, James, Art, Glen and Ben Cranor; and one sister, Mildred M. Gagan.
Jose Chavira
A memorial service for Jose Chavira, 82, of Sulphur Springs will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 6, 2004 at League Street Church of Christ in Sulphur Springs with Luis Camacho Jr. officiating.
Mr. Chavira died at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2004 at Carriage House Manor.
He was born on March 30, 1921, in El Paso, to Jose and Rosario Montes Chavira. He married Elvia del Castillo on March 17, 1946, in Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. She preceded him in death.
Mr. Chivira was a retired agriculture consultant in Mexico.
Survivors include one son, Rogelio Chavira of El Paso, one daughter, Elvia C. Camacho of Sulphur Springs; five grandchildren, Luis Camacho of Denver, Colo., Gaby Hill of Sulphur Springs, Mayra Cummings of Pickton, Alan Chavira of El Paso, Melissa Chavira of Las Cruces, N.M.; and four great-grandchildren, Cassi Hill, Christian Hill, Parker Cummings and Presli Cummings.
Mr. Chavira was also preceded in death by one son, Jose Chavira, and one granddaughter, Erica Chavira.

Graveside funeral services for Ruby Middleton, 95, of Brashear will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2004 in Clifton Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Darty officiating.
Interment will be in Clifton Cemetery with Mrs. Middleton's grandsons serving as honorary pallbearers.
Visitation will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, at West Oaks Funeral Home.
Mrs. Middleton died at 5:36 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004 at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
She was born on Jan. 6, 1909, in Point, to Robert Farmer and Annie Mae McKinney Spencer. She married Julian Leo Middleton on Jan. 11, 1934, in Rains County. He preceded her in death on Dec. 29, 1966.
Mrs. Middleton was a homemaker. She was a member of County Line Baptist Church in Miller Grove.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby W. Middleton of Point and J. L. Middleton Jr. of Sulphur Springs; two daughters, Doris Hall of Miller Grove and Nora Younger of Saltillo; 15 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Middleton was also preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Jackie Middleton on June 18, 2001, and Cleatus Ray Middleton; one daughter, Floy Virginia Pritchett; two brothers, Curtis and Cecil Spencer; and four sisters, Opal Sims, Bessie Hatley, Leona Briggs and Juanita May.
