Mr. Cox
Funeral services for Roger Pearl Cox, 54, of Lampasas are Dec. 6, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Townsen Cemetery in Lampasas County near Adamsville.
Mr. Cox died Dec. 1 at Rollins Brook Community Hospital.
He was born July 27, 1949, in Bluefield, W. Va., to Pearl S. and Lula May Lewis Cox.
Mr. Cox married Diane Eileen Hoff on May 20, 1967, in Rockdale, Md.
He was a master plumber and owned his own business, Cox Plumbing, for four years.
Mr. Cox was a member of the National Rifle Association. He had lived in the community for five years, coming from Virginia.
Survivors include his wife of Lampasas; one son, Roger E. Cox, of Hot Springs, Ark.; daughters, Michelle Barrett, and husband, Andrew, of Florence, and Lara Brooks, and husband, Brian, of Missouri; his mother of Virginia; a brother, Ronnie Earl Cox, of Virginia; two sisters, Essie Elmore and Mary Dodson, both of Virginia; nine grandchildren; a niece; and a great-nephew.
He was preceded in death by his father.

Mr. Cunningham
Fredrick R. Cunningham, 67, of Kempner died Nov. 23, 2003, at Temple.
No services were held.
He was born Sept. 27, 1936, in Porterville, Calif. He was reared and educated in Fresno, Calif.
Mr. Cunningham retired from the U.S. Army and earned a host of military awards including Meritorious Service Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievement Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Medal, National Defense Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star, Southwest Asia Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon with Numeral 3, Kuwait Liberation Medal and Driver and Mechanic Badges.
He was a member of the Kempner American Legion and was a lifetime member of the Lampasas Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife, Cleo Cunningham, of Kempner; two daughters, Kathleen Kopp, of Carson City, Nev., and Jennifer White, of Richmond, Ky.; his mother, Geraldine Warren, of Gridley, Calif.; a brother, John Warren, of Gridley; and two grandchildren.
The family requested memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Franklin
Herbert "Woody" Franklin, 58, of Lampasas died Dec. 1, 2003, at Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas.
Funeral services were Dec. 4 at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel with full military honors. The Rev. Kelly Chadwick officiated.
Mr. Franklin was born Jan. 7, 1945, in Cleveland, TX., to Woodrow and Bessie Mae Lee Franklin.
He married Barbara Nation Franklin on Aug. 12, 1967, in Garden Grove, Calif.
Mr. Franklin served in the U.S. Marine Corps from the time he graduated high school in 1963 until September 1967. He served at Camp Pendleton, Calif., and in Vietnam.
Mr. Franklin was a lifetime member of the VFW and AMVETS. He was a self-employed building contractor. He was baptized as a child in the Baptist church.
He had lived in the community for 11 years, coming from East Texas.
Survivors include his wife of Lampasas; three daughters, Joely Aldy, Wendy Williams, and husband, Brett, all of Lampasas, and Jennifer Franklin, of Batson; his parents of Pointe Blank; a brother, Billy D. Franklin, and wife, Joyce, of Lampasas; a sister, Barbara Foster, and husband, Terry, of Houston; and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Herbert "Chip" Franklin, in 1997; by a brother, Ricky Franklin; and by a grandson, Zachary Caylor, in 1998.

Ms. Garcia
Zara Sue Samuel Garcia, 31, died in November 2003.
A memorial service was held Dec. 2 at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home with Pastor Bob McClinton of Lometa officiating.
She was born April 12, 1972, in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies.
She attended school in Oklahoma where she played soccer, basketball, cheerleading and 4-H.
Ms. Garcia performed in talent contests at Boomtown Theater, placing in dance. In July 2003, at the Spring Ho Festival in Lampasas, she and a partner placed fifth in the talent contest.
Survivors include her parents, Jeanette and Lonnie Slade, of Lometa, and Neil and Bonnie Samuel, of Pasadena; daughter, Jasmine Desiree Garcia; a son, Skylar Lee-Daniel Spry; a step-sister, Samantha Leigh Samuel, of Pasadena; grandparents, Troy and Marie Hise, of League City; and aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Pallbearers were Troy Hise Sr., Lonnie Slade, Dr. Gypsy Wiant and Bob McClinton.
The family requested memorials be made to a fund to be set up for Ms. Garcia's son.

Mr. Summerville
Schelly Wayne Summerville, 53, died Nov. 29, 2003, at a Granbury hospital.
A memorial service is set Dec. 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
Mr. Summerville was born Feb. 7, 1950, in Lampasas, to R.D. and R.V. Summerville. He was a heavy equipment operator.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Summerville, of Joshua; sons, Nathan Summerville, of Orlando, Fla., and Ryan Summerville, of Joshua; a daughter, Elizabeth Summerville, of Austin; a brother, Bobby Summerville, of Valley View; and sisters, JoAnn Davidson, and husband, Jack, of Lampasas, Loretta Jean Crawford, and husband, Ruben, of Palestine, and Nicky Wilkinson, and husband, Dan, of Denton.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Danny Summerville; and by a sister, Gloria Hoyt.

Mr. Walker
Private services were held Dec. 1,2003, for retired Chief Warrant Officer 4 Zack Taylor Walker, 81, of Killeen.
Mr. Walker died Nov. 29 in Killeen.
He was born Feb. 22, 1922, in Sparkman, Ark., the son of Samuel Pullman and Susan Hamm Walker.
Mr. Walker retired from the U.S. Army and also retired from J. Storm Offshore Drilling Operations. He was a combat veteran of World War II and the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife, Ethel M. Walker, of Killeen; a son, Dennis T. Walker, of Copperas Cove; three daughters, Cecilia Miller, of Burnet, Yvonne McCarroll, of Killeen, and Nora Elton, of Adamsville; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, a grandson and 12 brothers and sisters.
