Mr. Luning
Richard Earl Luning, 57, of Lometa died Nov. 23, 2002, at Baylor Medical Center in Garland.
Funeral services are Nov. 26 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Lometa with the Rev. George Fischer officiating. Burial will follow at Senterfitt Cemetery at Lometa.
Mr. Luning was born Aug. 3, 1945, in Clifton, the son of Johnnie J. and Meta Mildred Massier Luning.
He married Sandra Schulz on June 10, 1967, in Coryell City.
Mr. Luning was a signal maintainer for Burlington-Northern-Santa Fe Railroad. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War.
He had been a Lometa resident since December 1972. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Lometa.
He is survived by his wife of Lometa; two sons and their wives, Brian and Lynn Luning, of Gatesville, and Jeff and Deanna Luning, of Sachse; brothers, Johnny Luning Jr., of Waco, James Luning, of McGregor, and Vernon Luning, of Conroe; and four grandchildren, Sara Luning, of Sachse, Cara, Layne and Cole Lovorn, all of Gatesville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Mr. Whitehead
Graveside services for Judson "J.D." Whitehead, 76, of Lometa were Nov. 25, 2002, at Senterfitt Cemetery in Lometa. Minister Darnell Boyd and the Rev. Michael Kelly were officiants.
Mr. Whitehead died Nov. 24 at an Austin hospital.
He was born in Lampasas County to Elzie and May Smith Whitehead, and had been a lifelong resident of Lometa.
Mr. Whitehead married Pat Hamrick in Llano in 1948.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II. He owned and operated Whitehead Furniture and Appliance in Lometa.
Mr. Whitehead was a member of the Lometa Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife of Lometa; two sons and their wives, Mike and Cindy Whitehead, of Lometa, and Ronnie and Ginger Whitehead, of Glen Rose; two sisters, Mary Lou Forehand, of Lampasas, and Adele Davis, of Georgetown; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
The family requested memorials be made to Cherokee Children's Home or the American Heart Association.

Mr. Cruz
Funeral Mass for Jose Cruz, 78, of Lometa was celebrated Nov. 21, 2002, at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Lometa with the Rev. James Harnan officiating. Burial followed at Senterfitt Cemetery in Lometa.
Mr. Cruz died Nov. 17 at Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas.
He was born Sept. 23, 1924, in Satin, Texas, to Baltazar and Juana Salinas Cruz.
He married Margarita Felan on July 16, 1943, in O'Donnell, Texas.
Mr. Cruz was a truck driver and a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
He had lived in the community since 1982.
He is survived by his wife of Lometa; sons, Adolfo Cruz, David Cruz, Pete Cruz and Paul Cruz, all of Brownfield, Gilbert Cruz, of Sinton, and Baltazar and Jessie Cruz, both of Lometa; daughters, Agrora Gonzales and Carmen Scarborough, both of Lampasas, Yolanda Medina, of Priddy, and Gloria Garcia, of Lometa; step-brothers, Frank Herrera, Willie Herrera and John Herrera, all of Brownfield, and Eleno Herrera, of Georgetown; one sister, Maria Salas, of Lockney; 47 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by six children: Cathy, Lupe, Norma, Angelica, Lydia and Benito; by two step-brothers; and by one sister.

Mrs. Breazeale
Eunice Breazeale, 100, of Lampasas died March 31, 2003, at a Temple hospital.
Funeral services are April 4 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Lampasas with Dr. Adrian Coleman officiating. Burial will follow at Lometa City Cemetery.
Mrs. Breazeale was born Nov. 17, 1902, to Jacob Andrew and Josie Green near Adamsville.
When it was time to start school, she began her education at the Adamsville School and attended two years. Because of the difficulties of the trip to school, the family moved to Lometa where Mrs. Breazeale continued her education.
Due to the demands of World War I, Lometa School dropped the senior year of high school, and Mrs. Breazeale graduated from the junior class in 1919. She returned to complete her senior year when it was reinstituted in 1920-21. As a result, she received two high school diplomas.
Mrs. Breazeale enrolled in Baylor Female College in September 1922 and became certified to teach upon finishing one year of college work. She obtained a teaching position in the Mt. Olive CSD of Mills County, where she taught for three years, followed by one year at Kempner.
On Aug. 31, 1927, she married Albert Haney Breazeale in Goldthwaite at the First Baptist Church. They were married more than 60 years.
In June 1930, she and her husband attended school full-time at North Texas State Teachers College. They received their degrees just as the Depression of 1928 fastened itself upon Texas.
They were able to find teaching jobs in the Valley View School District west of Wichita Falls.
In 1948, they moved to Canadian, and in 1955, the took their final jobs in Houston. In June 1965, the Breazeales retired to Lampasas.
A celebration of Mrs. Breazeale's first 100 years was held Nov. 16, 2002, at which time she was presented with the "Yellow Rose of Texas" award from the governor.
She is survived by a son, Larry Breazeale, and wife, Bonnie, of Dallas; granddaughter, Becky, and husband, Mike Risor, of San Antonio; grandsons, Andy and Jeff, and wife, Elizabeth, all of San Antonio, and Larry Jr. and wife, Karen, and Jon and wife, Kristin, all of Richardson; great-grandchildren, Danny Workman, Ryan and Katie Risor and Aubrey and Josephine Breazeale, all of San Antonio, and Alexandra Breazeale, of Richardson.
She was preceded in death by her husband.

Mr. Cantrell
Funeral services for Clifford E. Cantrell, 88, of Houston are April 4, 2003, at 11 a.m. at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel in Lampasas with the Rev. Robert Blackwell officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Cantrell died March 30 at Tomball Regional Hospital.
He was born Oct. 19, 1914, in Lampasas County, to Earl T. and Laura Belva Buchanan Cantrell.
Mr. Cantrell married Ione Elizabeth Baze on Oct. 27, 1946, in Fort Worth.
He was a western artist. Some of his paintings are still on display at First Texas Bank in Lampasas.
Mr. Cantrell was the son of a rancher and worked in Civil Service at Fort Hood. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. During World War II, while serving in the military police, he made General Patton turn around to retrieve a pass before entering a secured area that Sgt. Cantrell was policing.
Mr. Cantrell was a member of Champion Forest Baptist Church in Houston. He had lived there since 1983, moving from Lampasas.
Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Paula and James Landers, of Houston; and two grandchildren, Tyler Landers and Haley Landers, both of Houston.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Feb. 19, 1986.

Mr. Davis
Roy Davis, 61, of Lampasas died March 30, 2003, at his residence.
A memorial service will be held April 5 at 10 a.m. at his residence, 776 County Road 3489 in Lampasas. Minister Reid Schaub will officiate.
Mr. Davis was born April 28, 1941, in Midland, to Arthur and Lecta Sikes Davis.
He was reared in Bangs, and graduated from Mertzon High School outside of San Angelo.
Mr. Davis worked for the Highway Department, retiring in 1992.
He is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Davis Wiley, and husband, Michael, of Lampasas, and Karen Sewell, of Grand Prairie; a sister, Dee Robensdorf, of Colorado; and a grandson, R.G. Sewell, of Grand Prairie.

Mrs. Yeary
Alvaree Yeary, 88, of Lampasas died April 1, 2003, at Regal Nursing & Rehab in Lampasas.
Funeral services are April 4, 2003, at 3 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Lampasas with the Rev. J.W. Hutcherson officiating. Burial followed at Dobyville Cemetery in Burnet County.
Mrs. Yeary was born Nov. 27, 1914, in Burnet County, the daughter of Edd and Etta Woods Spradling.
She married Doyle Harold Yeary on July 8, 1934, in Burnet County.
She was a homemaker and a Methodist.
Mrs. Yeary had lived all of her life in Burnet and Lampasas counties.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Thorp, of Temple, and Billie Canales, of Lampasas; one sister, Virginia Ray, of Dallas; grandchildren, Lynn Thorp, Aldo Canales and Mary Canales; great-grandchildren, Olivia Thorp, Ryan Canales and Chelsea Canales.
She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Clayton and Edd Spradling Jr.; one sister, Mildred O'Neal; and a grandson, Bryan Thorp.
The family requested memorials be made to Dobyville Cemetery Association or the American Cancer Society.
