Matus
CAMERON – Funeral services for Brenda Susan Matus, 49, of Houston were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, in the chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home with Rev. Craig Taylor officiating. Burial followed in Oak Hill Cemetery in Cameron. Mrs. Matus died Monday at her residence in Houston.
She was born Aug. 4, 1956 in Caldwell to Jodie and Gwendolyn Matus and was a homemaker.
Mrs. Matus was preceded in death by her stepfather Walter Frazier Sr. and her grandparents J.L. and Iris McCarty and Joe and Frances Matus.
Survivors include her father, Jodie Matus and wife Barbara of Caldwell; her mother, Gwendolyn Johnson and husband Don of Clute; three brothers, Jodie Matus of Houston, Charles Matus of Caldwell and Walter Frazier of Tucson, Arizona; and a sister, Carrie Cantrell of Clute.
Smith
CAMERON – Funeral services for James Edward Smith, 55, of Marlin were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, in the chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home with John Shackelford officiating.
Mr. Smith died Thursday, Jan. 26, at his residence.
He was born Nov. 27, 1950, in Ben Arnold.
Mr. Smith was a truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. and Tress Lopez Smith.
Survivors are his wife, Jan Shackelford of Marlin; a daughter, Leslie Elaine Smith of Austin; two brothers, George W. Smith Jr. of Calvert and Horace Smith of Cameron; and five sisters, Bea Owens of Lubbock, Mary Contreras of Hearne; Louise Garcia of El Mirage, Arizona, Helen Galvan of Cameron and Tress Arbaugh of Hearne.
Jungmann
CAMERON – Doris Marie (Meek) Jungmann of Cedar Park and formerly of Cameron died Jan. 25, 2006 in Cedar Park. Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 27 and burial was in the Hope Lutheran Memorial Park.
She was born Jan. 27, 1951 in Cameron to Delma and Ann (Kohutec) Meek. She was a 27-year resident of Cedar Park and was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. Doris was preceded in death by a brother, James Meek.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Jungmann of Cedar Park; two sons, John Jungmann and Jeremy Jungmann of Cedar Park; parents, Delma and Ann Meek of Cameron.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Tyler
Judy Tyler, 88, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 at St. Joseph Hospital in Bryan. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5 in the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Carl Teel of Texarkana officiating. Burial followed in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.
Mrs. Tyler, homemaker, was born Feb. 25, 1917 in Milam County to John Cargile and Mary Lucinda (Yarbrough) Armstrong. She was a lifelong resident of Rockdale except for the last 5˝ years in Bryan. She married Henry Tyler on May 23, 1935 in Rockdale at the home of Minister H.E. Crane.
She was a longtime active member of the First Christian Church in Rockdale and then became a Charter member of the Rockdale Christian Church 25 years ago.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Tyler on Aug. 14, 2003; sister, Ruby Haldas; two brothers, Roy Armstrong and John C. “Jake” Armstrong; parents.
Survivors include son, Rick Tyler and wife Jody of Longview; three daughters, Barbara Ann Tyler of Patagonia, Arizona, Lynne Laurence and husband Donnie of Kerrville and Patsy Chmelar and husband Glen of College Station; seven grandchildren, Jason Tyler, Clay Tyler, Christel Chmelar, Chad Chmelar and wife Joy, Tammy Laurence, Tanncy Rau and husband Tim, Donnie Laurence Jr. and wife Jill; six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers included Donnie Laurence Jr., Tim Rau, Chad Chmelar, Jason Tyler, Clay Tyler and David Brewton.
Turner
Mary Carmel Turner, 89, of Thorndale died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 in the Manor Oaks Nursing Home in Rockdale. Graveside services were held 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5 in Salty Cemetery in Salty Community.
Mrs. Turner was born April 1, 1916 in Milam County near Pleasant Retreat Community to Henry Edward and Stella (Barber) Bryant. She married S.D. Turner on Oct. 27, 1934 in Temple.
Mrs. Turner, homemaker, was a resident of the Thorndale area most of her life.
She was a 1935 graduate of Thorndale High School. She enjoyed her vegetable garden and flowers, gospel music, cooking and having family and friends over for Sunday dinner. She attended the Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, S.D. Turner on Aug. 31, 1989; son, Sammy Donald Turner on Jan. 29, 1959; parents; sister, Dell Hopkins.
Survivors include son, Allen B. Turner of Thorndale; daughter, Stella Youngblood of Rockdale; three granddaughters, Mary Sorrells and husband Larry, Kathy Thornton and husband Steve and Donna Currie and husband Dale; 5 great-grandchildren, Bryan Thorton, Clay Thorton, Donny Flemming, Kelli Currie and Daniel Currie; two great-great-grandchildren, Sklyar Flemming and Turner Flemming.
Pallbearers were Donny Flemming, Bryan Thorton, Clay Thorton, Kenneth Hines, Billy Turner Jr and Owen Turner. Honorary pallbearer was Daniel Currie.
Hodges
Herbert Hodges, 77, died Saturday morning, Feb. 4, 2006 at his home in Rockdale after a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Jack Chelf of First Baptist Church in Rockdale officiating. Burial will follow in Bushdale Cemetery.
Mr. Hodges was born June 26, 1928 in Quinlan to John Elton and Inez (Finley) Hodges. He married Odelsa Brown on June 7, 1952 in Clovis, New Mexico. He was a resident of New Mexico for many years, mostly in Clovis, and lived the last six years in Rockdale.
He retired after 35 years with Santa Fe Railroad as a railroad engineer. He was member of Masonic Lodge in Vaughn, New Mexico and graduated high school in Ranchvale, New Mexico.
Mr. Hodges was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Hodges and parents.
Survivors include his wife Odelsa Hodges of Rockdale; son, Tommy Hodges and wife Carla of Rockdale; daughter, Cathy Jean Fuehring and husband John of Ft. Worth; three sisters, Juanema Staggs of Tularosa, New Mexico, Pat Carpenter of Capitan, New Mexico and Dorothy Reed of Clovis, New Mexico; two granddaughters, Melody Ann Hodges and Tracey Samantha Hodges, both of Rockdale.
Pallbearers will be Bill Avrett, Jim Hodson, Ron Green, Dick Burns, Arlyn Hammett, Lambert Skubal, James Powell and Walter Pond.
Eubanks
Lucille Eubanks, 89, died Saturday, Feb. 4, 2006 at Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. Funeral services were held 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Doug Springer of Rockdale Full Gospel Church officiating. Burial followed in Salty Cemetery near Rockdale.
Mrs. Eubanks, a resident of the Salty Community for most her life, was born April 7, 1916 in Wilmore, Kentucky to Howard E. Fisher and Marie Hollowell. She married Willie H. “Bill” Eubanks on April 8, 1933 in High Point, Mississippi.
She was a lifelong farmer and was member of the Church of Nazarene. She also enjoyed cooking and sewing.
She was preceded in death by her husband Willie H. “Bill” Eubanks on Aug. 10, 1989; son, Billy Eubanks on Nov. 20, 1979; seven brothers, Eldred, Roland, Wayne, Harley, Charles, Ralph and Billy Fisher; three sisters, Marciline Purdom, Ruth Youngblood and Martha Herford.
Survivors include two sons, David Eubanks and wife Sue of Rockdale and Donald Eubanks and wife Sharon of Odessa; sister, Elizabeth Earman of Mesquite; six grandchildren, Roger Dale Eubanks, Reba Gale Eubanks, David E. Eubanks Jr., Myra Jean Niemann, Derrill Lynn Eubanks and Dana Michelle Eubanks-Sowell; five great-grandchildren, Dakota, Kylie, Kasey, Karly and Landan; and one great-great grandchild, Brooke Lynn Rowe.
Pallbearers were David Eubanks Jr., Scott Niemann, Eugene Cuba, Derrill Eubanks, Jimmy Vaughan and Keith Fisher.
