Mr. Faught
Joe Faught, 58, of Austin, formerly of Lampasas, died Jan. 17, 2005.
Funeral services were Jan. 20 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Chapel, followed by a graveside service at Nix Cemetery in Lampasas County.
Mr. Faught was born April 20, 1946, in Lampasas, to Floyd and Ethel Faught.
After graduation from Lampasas High School in 1964, he served three years during the Vietnam War aboard the USS Ticonderoga.
Mr. Faught opened Faught's Florist and Antiques in Lampasas in 1980, and for more than 12 years he created floral designs, earning his Texas Master Florist credentials.
He served as president of the Lampasas County Chamber of Commerce for the 1983-84 term. He also was active in the Lampasas County Museum Foundation, where he was an original member of the board of directors. In addition, he was a past chairman of the Lampasas County Historical Commission.
In 1992, he moved to Austin.
After working as a floral designer for Northwest Hills Pharmacy and Florist, and then with R.A. Lewis at Tarrytown Florist, he opened Faught Floral Design in October 2001.
Despite having multiple myeloma cancer, Mr. Faught was actively involved in his business up until the time he sold it last July.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Suzanne Faught; a daughter, Jennifer; a son, Michael; his mother; three brothers, Wayne and wife, Clara Faught, Doug and wife, Narelene Faught, and Robert and wife, Janet Faught; and sisters June Burns, Ladell Faught and Janell Porter, and her husband, Jerry; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; his mother-in-law, Janet Gage; and three brothers-in-law, Steve Gage III and his wife, Cindy, Billy Gage and his wife, Cindy, and Rick Gage.
He was preceded in death by his father; a brother, Ray; and a niece, Angie.

Mr. Walker
Jimmy Walker, 51, of Gatesville died Jan. 15, 2005, at a Waco hospital.
Funeral services were Jan. 17 at Gatesville Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steve Dominy officiating. Burial was at Restland Cemetery.
Mr. Walker was born Jan. 6, 1954, in Lampasas, the son of Laverne Armstrong and the late William Walker.
He grew up in Adamsville and Lampasas, graduating from Lampasas High School in 1972.
Following graduation, Mr. Walker moved to Gatesville where he was a cattle buyer and rancher. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife, Lynn Gohlke, of Gatesville; his mother, Laverne Cox, of Lampasas; two daughters, Jodi Necessary, and husband, Jeff, of Gatesville, and Charley Walker, of Lakeside Village; two sons, Jarad Gohlke, and Ryan Crawford, both of Gatesville; three sisters, Peggy Fowler, of Quitaque, Mary Davis, of Austin, and Billie Shelburn, of Burnet; and four grandchildren, Bradi, Erin, Hunter and Elliott.
The family requested memorials be made to Coryell Memorial Hospital Foundation or the American Heart Association.

Mr. Weaks
Lifetime Lampasas resident Wilburn Drew Weaks, 90, died Jan. 12, 2005, at his residence.
Graveside services were Jan. 14 at Cauble Cemetery in Burnet County with Minister Reid Schaub officiating.
Mr. Weaks was born May 27, 1914, in Lampasas, the son of Henry and Dora Goble Weaks.
He married Evelyn Parsons on May 2, 1936, in Lampasas.
Mr. Weaks was retired from the city of Lampasas where he worked many years for the Parks Department, providing maintenance and upkeep of facilities.
He is survived by a daughter, Jeannie Litton, of Harker Heights; a brother, Bob Weaks, of Duncan, Okla.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife on Oct. 8, 1995; by a son, Wilburn Derrell Weaks; and by a daughter, Sarah Jane Weaks.

Mr. Humphres
Lifelong Lampasas County resident Jim Tom Humphres Jr. died Jan. 12, 2005, at Lake Buchanan. He was 83.
A memorial service was held Jan. 15 at the Lampasas Fire Station with the Rev. Jim Wooldridge officiating. Full military honors followed the service.
Mr. Humphres was born May 17, 1921, in Lometa, to Jim Tom and Venie Sims Humphres Sr.
He attended school in Lampasas and Lometa where he played football.
On Sept. 5, 1940, Mr. Humphres entered the U.S. Marine Corps in Dallas, and served in the Pacific Theater of Operations. He was wounded when he participated in action during World War II at Guadalcanal on Jan. 7, 1943. He received a Purple Heart.
Mr. Humphres was honorably discharged as a sergeant on Nov. 11, 1946, at Quantico, Va.
On Nov. 24, 1945, he married Ethna (Sherry) Sherman in Fredericksburg, Va.
Mr. Humphres retired from the United States Postal Service after 30 years of service as a postal carrier.
He was a member and past president of the Lampasas Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as fire chief from 1964-77.
Mr. Humphres was awarded a 50-year service leather fireman's helmet in 1996.
He was past president of the Central Texas Volunteer Fireman's and Fire Marshal's Association. In addition, he was an instructor for many years at the Municipal Fire School at Texas A&M University at College Station.
Mr. Humphres was a past member of AMVETS, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and St. Mary's Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his wife of Lampasas; a son and his wife, James Cliford and Ruth Ann Pierce Humphres, of Round Rock; two grandchildren, Shannon Humphres and Jamison Humphres, both of Round Rock; and a sister, Mary Day Gartman, and family of San Antonio.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Annette Humphres.
The family requested memorials be made to a local fire department or to the charity of one's choice.

Mrs. Glover
Dora Edith Glover, 88, of Lampasas died Jan. 27, 2005, at a local nursing home.
Funeral services were Jan. 29 at Dodson-Sneed Funeral Home Chapel with Ministers Reid Schaub and Darnell Boyd officiating. Burial was at Senterfitt Cemetery in Lometa.
Mrs. Glover was born Aug. 14, 1916, in Hereford, to Edward Winston and Annie Holland Walker McNutt.
She married Charles "Doc" Glover on June 12, 1949, in Goldthwaite, and they were married for 53 years.
Mrs. Glover had lived in Lampasas for 40 years and was a member of Community Church.
She enjoyed reading and traveling, especially to Colorado and the mountains.
Survivors include sisters-in-law, Delores Kirby, of Lometa, and Evelyn Brister, of Cleburne; nieces and nephews, Bill and Sandy Brister, of Lake Whitney, Jack and Sandra Brister, of Graham, Mary and Ray Watson, of Joshua, Gerald and Jean Ann Brister, of Kingsland, Barbara and Bernard Allen, of Lake Jackson, Jennifer and Jim Gardner, of Crawford, Dana Burgess, of Arlington, Connie and Chuck Hall, of Brackettville, Holly and Danny Bryant, of Linden, and Bill Edward McNutt, of El Paso; and a host of great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and a sister.

Mrs. Sloan
Funeral services for Ella Viola Sloan, 94, of Lampasas, formerly of Bend, were Jan. 31, 2005, at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel in Lampasas with Dr. Ricky Burk officiating. Burial followed at Cox Cemetery in San Saba County.
Mrs. Sloan died Jan. 28 at Rollins Brook Community Hospital.
She was born Oct. 7, 1910, in Elm Grove Community in San Saba County, to Buford M. and Ella Gossett Winkler, and had been a longtime Lampasas resident.
She married Pete Sloan at Bend, and was a homemaker and a sitter at nursing homes.
Mrs. Sloan was a member of First United Methodist Church in Lampasas, and was an avid sewer and enjoyed crossword puzzles.
She is survived by a sister, Ora B. Treadaway, of Gatesville; and five nieces, Ella Ruth Crofut, Betty Arnold, Suzy Winkler, Arlene Broadway and Annette Harkin, and her husband, Ken; two nephews, Allen Treadaway and Arlen Treadaway; two great-nieces, Peggy and Theresa Crofut; two great-nephews, Shane Treadaway, and wife, Britney, and Chad Harkin; and one great-great-niece.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one brother, Vess Winkler; and a great-nephew, Donny Crofut.

Mr. Hammett
Sam Hammett Jr., 80, of Texarkana, Texas, formerly of Lampasas, died Jan. 30, 2005, in Texarkana.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Feb. 1 at Dodson-Sneed Funeral Home in Lampasas.
Funeral services are Feb. 2 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, with Minister Reid Schaub officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Hammett was born June 24, 1924, in Lampasas. He married Lois Margaret Burns on April 16, 1943.
He served in the Army Air Corps from 1944 until he was discharged in 1946, in the South Pacific, with most of that time on Guam.
After his military service, Mr. Hammett had a locker plant in Burnet for about eight years, before he returned to Lampasas in 1955.
He was owner/operator of Lampasas Locker Plant for many years until his retirement in 1989. He was first associated with the firm in 1955, and became a junior partner in 1963. In the early 1970s, Mr. Hammett and Joe Bozarth purchased A.J. Bassel's interest in the business.
Since September 2001, he had lived in Texarkana near his immediate family.
While in Lampasas, Mr. Hammett spent a good deal of time with his friends at the coffee table at Martin's Restaurant. He was a past member of the Lions Club and American Legion.
He is survived by his son, Sam III, and his wife, Jennifer Erickson Hammett, of Texarkana; three grandchildren, Len, Megan and Tara Hammett, all of Texarkana; and by a sister, Eula Mae Maxwell, of Midwest City, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his wife in October 1991; brothers, J.V., O'Dean Sr., Melvin and Bill; and by a sister, Alma Lois Goodwin.
