Nettles
Lifelong Lexington resident, Joseph McLarty “Mac” Nettles, 90, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 at Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. Funeral services were held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7 at Lexington United Methodist Church in Lexington with Rev. Linda O’Neal officiating. Burial followed in Lexington Cemetery.
Mr. Nettles was born Dec. 27, 1915 in the Cole Spring Community near Tanglewood to Joseph Alfred Nettles and Carrie Bell Yeager.
Mr. Nettles’ hobbies included fishing, gardening and playing dominoes. He was very active in the Senior Citizens Association in Lexington. He was also member of the “Tree Army” (CCC) in the 1930’s.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Carrie Rosalyn Nettles; sister, Ruby Vance; two brothers, Franklin William “Moon” Nettles and Wallace Oliver Nettles; grandson, Darvin McLarty “Chip” Nettles Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Audrey I. Nettles of Lexinton; son, Darvin McLarty Nettles Sr. and wife Bonnie of Canon City, Colorado; two daughters, Linda Nettles Wollard and husband David of Waco and Marsha Nettles Adams of LaGrange; eight grandchildren, Tami Nettles Jiminez, Dani Lee Nettles, Lori Nettles-Lucero, Alise Nettles-Reyes, Jason Roy Adams, Jena Adams Tally, Billy Tom Wollard and Joseph Lee Wollard; 16 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jason Adams, Billy Wollard, Joseph Wollard, Jim Tally, Danny Nettles and Reuben Ramirez.
Memorials may be made to Lexington Cemetery Association, American Cancer Society or the the charity of donor’s choice.
Muston
Lifelong Rockdale resident Edna Muston, 70, died Friday, Feb. 3, 2006 in Richards Memorial Hospital in Rockdale. Graveside services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15 in Minerva Cemetery in Minerva.
Ms. Muston, homemaker, was born Dec. 20, 1935 in Rockdale to Amon F. and Robbie L. (Dyer) Muston. She was born, raised and attended school in Rockdale.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Amon O. Muston; sister, Rosa Mae Gibbert.
Survivors include brother, Eddie Muston and wife Joyce of Navasota; sister, Shirley Mokuski and husband Sylvester of Grand Forks, North Dakota; aunts and uncles, Frank and Evelyn Muston of Rockdale and Lee and Nan Muston of Rockdale; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Cowen
Boyd Lee Cowen, 53, died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006 at his home in Milano after a sudden illness. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 3 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale with Rev. Gary Maroney of First Baptist Church in Cameron officiating. Burial followed in St. John’s Cemetery in Deanville.
Mr. Cowen, rancher and family man, was born Sept. 8, 1952 in Giddings to J.D. and Mae Del (Gerland) Cowen. He married Sheila Willard on Sept. 8, 1983 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Minerva.
He was a member of Milano Baptist Church in Milano and Rockdale I.B.E.W. Union. Mr. Cowen worked as a control room operator at Alcoa Power Plant in Rockdale for 30 years. He was also a graduate of Caldwell High School.
Survivors include his wife, Sheila Cowen of Milano; son, Jerod Swift and wife Tomoko of Taylor; daughter, Janice Cowen of Cameron; parents, J.D. and Mae Del Cowen of Deanville; brothers, Bruce Cowen and wife Kathy of Dime Box; granddaughter, Rylee Cowen of Cameron; nephews, Chris, Jeff and Mathew Cowen.
Pallbearers were Chris Cowen, Jeff Cowen, Mathew Cowen, Trey Gilchrist, Harry Schielack, J.D. Bartek, Derwood Mynar and Nick Columbetti.
Fuller
CAMERON – Funeral services for Patsy Ann Fuller, age 74, of Gause, were held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Gause Baptist Church with Reverend Jimmy Sanders officiating. Burial followed in the Gause Cemetery. Mrs. Fuller was born in 1931 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Pearl Henry Mills and Margaret Anderson Mills and was a retired sales clerk.
Survivors include son, Raymond B. Reid III and wife Deborah of Gause; daughter, Ravona Lynn Woodard and husband Gary of Austin; grandchildren, Gary L. Woodard of Austin, Raymond B. Reid IV of Houston and Misti R. Pope of Evans, Colorado; four great-grandchildren.
Robinson
CAMERON – Funeral services for Opal Robinson, age 83, of Rockport and formerly of Liberty Community, near Cameron were held 2 p.m. Thursday at the Liberty Cemetery with Reverend Robert Glenn officiating. Mrs. Robinson died Monday in a Corpus Christi hospital following an illness. Mrs. Robinson was born June 27, 1922 in Rogers to Alvia and Laura Groppell Fritz and was a retired rancher with her husband Ed Robinson who preceded her in death.
Survivors include two sisters, Delores Govro and husband Don of Rockport and Ola Faye Bolieu and husband Louis of Edmondsville, Florida.
McLeod
CAMERON – Lottie Margaret McLeod, 102, of Cameron died Monday, Jan. 30 in a Cameron hospital. Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Cameron with Rev. Gary Maroney officiating. Burial followed in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. McLeod, a retired school teacher, was born Oct. 22, 1903 in Morgan to Rufus and Bessie Belcher. She married Raymond McLeod in 1924 and he preceded her in death in 1983. She taught school at the old Cameron Mexican School, St. Monica’s Catholic Church and Ben Arnold School in Cameron. Ten siblings also preceded her in death.
Survivors include son, Dr. Raymond McLeod Jr. of Austin; sister, Mayme Vance; seven grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund or Scholarship Fund.
Crawford
CAMERON – Funeral services for Wayne Crawford, age 62, of Bradford, Pennsylvania and formerly of Cameron, were held 2 p.m. Saturday in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron with Reverend Billy Crow officiating. Burial followed in Pebble Grove Cemetery near Maysfield.
Mr. Crawford died Jan. 28, 2006 in Bradford, Pennsylvania. Mr. Crawford was born Jan. 8, 1944 in Cameron to Elbert Dave Crawford and Linnie Gaines Crawford and was a retired manager in the oil industry.
Survivors include two sons, James Crawford of Shawnee, Oklahoma and Ira Crawford of Monroe, Louisiana; two daughters, Holly Crawford of Bradford, Pennsylvania and Rhonda Walter of San Antonio; two sisters, Ima Jean Diver of Cameron and Linda Bezdicki of Rockdale; four grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
