Mrs. Spears
A memorial service for Betty Jean Spears of Lampasas will be Aug. 3, 2005, at 11:30 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
Mrs. Spears died July 28 at a local nursing home. She was 63.
She was born Nov. 14, 1941, in Louisiana, and was a retired school bus driver for the Lampasas Independent School District.
Mrs. Spears had lived in Lampasas for 27 years. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include her husband, Robert Spears, of Lampasas; a daughter, Shannon Spears Jamison, and husband, Jason, of Marble Falls; and grandchildren, Heather, Turner and Colton Jamison, and Cody and Keri Summerville.

Mr. Patterson
Graveside services for Tillman Avery Patterson, 77, of Tucson, Ariz., were July 27, 2005, in Lampasas County at Center Cemetery near Lometa.
Mr. Patterson died July 21 at St. Mary's Hospital in Tucson.
He was born July 10, 1928, in Lampasas County, to William M. and Rosie Gertrude Hooten Patterson.
Mr. Patterson married Elinor Rickard on Jan. 15, 1970, in Nogales, Ariz. He had lived in Tucson since 1970.
He was an electrician in the construction industry until his retirement and had served in the U.S. Army. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include his wife of Tucson; daughters, Teresa Davis, of Mesquite, and Peggy Patterson, of Dallas; a son, Avery Patterson, of Conroe; two sisters, Laverne Williams, of Lampasas, and Lois Champion, of Garland; a brother, Billy Patterson, of Garland; four grandchildren; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brothers, W.D. Patterson, of Mesquite, J.C. Patterson, of Cleburne, and Leslie Patterson, of Lampasas.

Mrs. Whitis
Graveside services are Aug. 2, 2005, at 11 a.m. at Kempner City Cemetery for Helen Miller Whitis, 93, of McAllen.
Mrs. Whitis died July 30 in Mission.
She was born March 10, 1912, in Whitesboro, to Charles Rickman and Rosa Swindle Miller.
She married A.M. Whitis, a teacher, in 1935. She returned to college to finish her coursework to become a teacher after rearing her only child.
She taught school for nine years at El Dorado and 16 years at Glenoaks Elementary in San Antonio.
Mrs. Whitis was active in civic and church affairs, took college courses, did crafts and painting and traveled to other countries.
She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Bobby and Linda Whitis; three granddaughters and their husbands, LeAnne and Ben Smith, Deborah and David Korth and Jennifer and Steve Kennett; six great-grandchildren, Darby Smith, Lindsey Smith, Natalie Korth, Michael Korth, Kacey Kennett and Brett Kennett; and a brother- and sister-in-law, Charles and Glenda Miller.
She was preceded in death by her husband of more than 50 years in 1988.

Mrs. Harper
Margaret Fannie Harper of Copperas Cove died July 25, 2005, in Copperas Cove. She was 90.
Services were held July 28 at Southern Hills Baptist Church with the Rev. Charles Gibson officiating. Burial was at Copperas Cove City Cemetery.
Mrs. Harper was born Dec. 9, 1914, in Topsey, to James and Sarah Jenkins Irvine. She was reared and educated in Copperas Cove. She was a member of the swim team at Southwest Texas Teachers College.
She worked in the Civil Service's finance division at Fort Hood and was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons. She was an avid piano player.
Mrs. Harper had been a lifelong member of the community and attended Southern Hills Baptist Church, Eastside Baptist Church and Robinson Avenue Baptist Church.
She is survived by sons, James Arthur Survant, of Thorndale, Ervin Pittman Survant, of Salado, Robert Dee Survant, of Riesel, and Harvey R. Harper, of Waco; daughters, Sara Lee Perryman, of Copperas Cove, Margaret Ellen Good, of Pflugerville, Linda J. Guthrie, of Kempner, and Nancy A. Mumby, of West Columbia; one brother, James Donald Irvine, of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Wilma Krempin, of Copperas Cove; 21 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leamon Harper; by brothers, Robert and Kenneth Irvine; and by a sister, Norma Louise Thompson.

Mrs. Lilley
Mary Agatha Wynn Lilley, 87, of Lampasas died July 26, 2005, in a Temple hospital.
Funeral services are July 29 at 10 a.m. at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Kevin Haynes officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Lilley was born June 25, 1918, in Southland in Lynn County, to Walter Harrison and Cornelia Jane Haralson Wynn.
She attended Hackberry School through the eighth grade, then rode the bus to Southland High School, graduating in 1936.
She married Virgil Theodore Lilley on June 6, 1936, in Slaton. They lived in Lubbock County for two years, followed by Eastland and Abernathy, moving to Lampasas in 1946.
Mrs. Lilley was a member of First Street Church of Christ. She also was a member of Extension Homemakers serving in local, county and district positions. She was a district director in 1969-70. In 1986, she was named Lampasas County Homemaker of the Year. In 2001, Mrs. Lilley was honored at the state convention as a 50-year member. She also served as a 4-H leader for a number of years.
She enjoyed embroidery, quilting, reading and testing new recipes.
Survivors include three daughters, Wilma Faye Lilley Reeves, of Hallettsville, Patsy Ruth Lilley Reichardt, and husband, Hal, of Shiner, and Linda Sue Lilley, of Austin; one son, Virgil E. Lilley, and wife, Sue, of Lampasas; four grandchildren, Roxanna Reeves Spalding, Michelle Phillips, Heather Foreman and Stewart Wynn Lilley; and five great-grandchildren, Christopher and Michael Foreman, Derek and Mikal Gillum and Tiffany Bailey.
She was preceded in death by her husband; by two brothers, Eli Carroll Wynn and Robert William Wynn; by two sisters, Virgie Bloxom and Carrie Mae Warren; and by a son-in-law, Macel Thander Reeves.
The family requested memorials be made to the charity of one's choice.

Mr. Scott
Walter Booker Scott, 91, of Garland died July 12, 2005, at Garland.
He was born March 29, 1914, in Coryell County, to Booker and Mae Terry Scott. The family moved to Lampasas County when he was 2 years old.
Mr. Scott grew up in communities near Lometa, and graduated from high school at Moline.
He married Elizabeth Holland in 1941, and joined the Navy in 1942. He served in the Pacific Theater during World War II.
After the war, the Scotts returned to Dallas where he worked in manufacturing until his retirement. He then joined his brother in a farming and ranching operation near Byers.
After a few years, they returned to the Dallas area and lived in Garland.
He is survived by an adopted daughter, Cherry Sue Smith; two grandsons, Scott and Kevin Smith; one great-grandson, Ethan Smith; a sister, Leta Mae Scott Graham; a brother, Kenneth Scott; and by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife three days prior. Interment for both was held at DFW National Cemetery.
Mr. Sneed
Troy Burlin Sneed, 84, of Lampasas died July 26, 2005, in Lampasas.
Funeral services are July 29 at 2 p.m. at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Rick Willis officiating. Burial will follow at Murphree Cemetery at Evant with full military honors and Masonic rites.
Mr. Sneed was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Evant, to George Besnett and Emma Naimoa Reed Sneed.
He married Noma Weir on Oct. 3, 1947, in Hamilton.
Mr. Sneed was a member of First Baptist Church in Lampasas, and held dual membership in Beehouse Masonic Lodge No. 550 and Saratoga Masonic Lodge No. 546.
He also was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 35th Infantry Division.
He is survived by his wife of Lampasas; two daughters, Linda Ruth Kidd, and husband, Ken, of Waco, and Judy Kay Scott, of Kempner; one son, Kenneth Dewayne Sneed, of Lampasas; two sisters, Jessie Fae Spradling, of Carlsbad, N.M., and Pauline Sutton, of Gatesville; one brother, Robert Lyle Sneed, of Evant; 11 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Burlin Sneed, and by a great-grandson, Charles Angel Ramirez.

Mrs. Winn
Funeral services for Ruth Sullivan Winn, 92, of Adamsville are July 30, 2005, at noon at Blanchard-St. Denis Funeral Home in Natchitoches, La., which assisted with arrangements. Burial will follow at Centeral Cemetery in Robeline, La.
Mrs. Winn died July 26 at her residence.
She was born Nov. 10, 1912, in Lake Charles, La., to Leslie Alexander and Lula Bowman Sullivan.
In 1933, she married Clifford C. Winn in Lake Charles.
Mrs. Winn was a certified practical nurse, a homemaker and a Sunday School teacher for 50 years. She also was a past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star, where she was a Lifetime Certified Conductress.
Mrs. Winn was a member of Adamsville Baptist Church, First Baptist Church in Natchitoches, and Clarence Baptist Church.
She is survived by two sons, Perry Winn, and wife Christelle, of Adamsville, and James L. Winn, and wife, Gale, of Highland Village; four grandchildren, Janice Winn, Scott Winn, Julie Wilder and Jay Warren; and by numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984; by a daughter, Judy Warren, in 1984; a grandson, David Winn, in 1985; two brothers, L.A. (Pat) Sullivan Jr. and John Sullivan; and two sisters, Marguerite McCabe and Mary Ethel (Bitsy) Hughes.
