Mr. Thomas
Billie Thomas, 86, of Gatesville died July 21, 2005, at a Temple hospital.
Funeral services were July 24 at Scott's Funeral Home Chapel in Gatesville with Dr. Steve Dominy officiating. Burial followed at Hemmeline Cemetery.
Mr. Thomas was born Jan. 7, 1919, in Gatesville, to Boss and Rena Black Thomas.
He married Doris White on April 24, 1941, at First Nazarene Church in Temple.
Mr. Thomas served in the U.S. Army from 1944-46. He was a dairy farmer and rancher.
He enjoyed family gatherings and making homemade ice cream.
Survivors include his wife of Gatesville; children, Jacqueline Kay Thomas, of Gatesville, Ricky Duane Thomas, and wife, Sandra Bird, of Stephenville, Robbie Thomas Lam and husband, Gene, Billie Shawn Thomas, and Jody Thomas, and wife, Robin Young, of Gatesville; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and sisters, LouDean Daniel, and husband, Bob, of McKinney, Lois Stewart, of Big Spring, and Ruth Winkler, of Dallas.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Cindy Gay Thomas; by a great-grandchild, Colt Justice Schiff; sisters, Mattie Thomas Renau, Opal Thomas Larry and Wilda (Willie) Pearl Thomas Bird; and by a brother, Stony Thomas.
The family requested memorials be made to First Baptist Church Flower Fund or the American Cancer Society.

Mr. Guthrie
Graveside services for V.H. "Bill" Guthrie, 80, of Artesia, N.M., were July 23, 2005, at Woodbine Cemetery with Leo Pennington officiating.
Mr. Guthrie died July 20 at his residence.
He was born July 29, 1924, in Oakalla, the son of Shadrack M. and Cora Frances Reavis Guthrie.
Mr. Guthrie served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He married Johnnie N. Smith on Dec. 25, 1943, in Lampasas. He moved to Artesia in 1949 from Monahans. He was a contract plumber.
Survivors include his wife of Artesia; a daughter, Claudia Hill, and husband, Mike, of Artesia; a son, John Valton Guthrie Sr., and wife, Renee, of Artesia; a brother, Leland Guthrie, of Leander; sisters, Luvenia Johnston, of Lampasas, and Nelda McAndrew, of Boise, Idaho; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Olan, W.C., and Lavoy Guthrie; and by a grandson, John Valton Guthrie Jr.
Pallbearers were Tim Kidd, Mike Hill, Robert Guthrie, Jeremy Guthrie, Trenton Guthrie and Sammy Van Atta.

Mrs. James
Laura Belle James of Lampasas died July 30, 2005, at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple. She was 105.
Funeral services were Aug. 3 at Griffin-Roughton Funeral Home in Corsicana with Ministers Charles Wallace of Hubbard and Chester Gates of Marlow, Okla., officiating. Burial followed at Petty's Chapel in Corsicana.
Mrs. James was born Nov. 7, 1899, in Navarro County, in Chatfield.
She lived in Blooming Grove when she met J.E. James, and they married when Mrs. James was 21.
Her husband was ordained in 1932, and started preaching. He pastored a number of churches during their married lives.
Mrs. James was a Baptist and a homemaker.
Survivors include a daughter, Lucy Wallace, of Lampasas; nine grandchildren, including Renee' Barton, of Lampasas; 23 great-grandchildren, including Traci Bender, Somer Smith, Aaron Barton and Turner Barton, all of Lampasas; seven great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Emory Tipping, of Dallas; and sisters, Bethel Lewis and Vera Hester, of Corsicana.
She was preceded in death by her husband, in 1967; by a son, Alton James; and by daughters, Mary Lois Hoggatt and Floy Edith Black.
Pallbearers were Josh Wallace, Jordan Wallace, Aaron Barton, Turner Barton, John Smith and Shawn Bender.

Mrs. Morgan
A memorial service for Geri Lynn Jones Morgan, 46, of Phoenix, Ariz., was held Aug. 4, 2005, at Cross in the Desert United Methodist Church in Phoenix. Funeral services are Aug. 6 at 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Lampasas. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
Mrs. Morgan died July 31 in an automobile accident.
She was born May 22, 1959, in Kilgore, to Grady and Glynda Jones.
Mrs. Morgan graduated from Kilgore High School and received a bachelor of science and master of education degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and an MBA from the University of Dallas.
She was married to John W. Morgan for 16 years.
Mrs. Morgan taught elementary school in the Austin and Plano independent school districts. She was director of Outreach Ministry at Cross in the Desert United Methodist Church and was training to be a deacon.
She was active in her church and in her son's school.
Mrs. Morgan was a 25-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She held the Grand Cross of Color, International Order of Rainbow for Girls. She also was a member of the Longhorn Band and the Band Tau Beta Sorority.
Survivors include her husband of Phoenix; a son, Jay W. Morgan, of Phoenix; her parents of Lampasas; a brother, Glenn Jones, of Wortham; a sister, Gay Jones, of Austin; her mother-in-law, Mary Morgan, of Houston; a brother-in-law, David Morgan, of Temple; and nephews and a niece, Heath, Garth and Valerie Jones of Wortham.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Grady and Margaret Jones of Kilgore, and Glenn and Ida Mae Gaedke, of Lampasas.
The family requested memorials be made to Cross in the Desert United Methodist Church, to Boy Scout Troop 30 in Phoenix, or to the charity of one's choice.

Mr. Wolverton
Earl Wolverton, 82, of Lampasas died Aug. 1, 2005, at his residence.
Funeral services are Aug. 5 at 10 a.m. at Dodson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Steven Foreman officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Wolverton was born in Morning Sun, Iowa, to John C. and Georgia Ella Humphrey Wolverton.
He served in the U.S. Army's Second Armored Division, 143rd Battalion during World War II and was stationed in Germany where he was a prisoner of war for 18 months. He received a Purple Heart for his service.
On Feb. 29, 1953, Mr. Wolverton married Mildred Inez Butts in Lampasas.
He was a sign painter at Fort Hood and worked for Civil Service for 30 years.
Mr. Wolverton was a member of the Centex Modelers Association where he enjoyed flying model airplanes. He also painted portraits and landscapes. He had been a Boy Scout leader and a deacon at Nolanville Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Donna Huck, and husband, Jerry, of Temple, and Denice Wolverton, of Lampasas; a son, Darrell Wolverton, and wife, Sandra, of Lampasas; two sisters, Margaret Hughling, of Temple, and Lynndall Parmer, of Bartlett; a sister-in-law, Mildred Butts, of Lampasas; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lloyd and Mildred Butts and Harold and Nelda Butts, all of Lampasas; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mr. Allen
Gerald Bailey Allen, 76, of Harker Heights died Aug. 21, 2005, at Temple.
Graveside services were Aug. 25 at Pidcoke Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Kerzee officiating.
Mr. Allen was born Oct. 5, 1928, at Pidcoke, to Kyle Bailey and True Lee Thompson Allen.
He was reared and educated in Pidcoke.
Mr. Allen was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He was an independent distributor for Borden's Milk Co.
A lifetime member of the community, Mr. Allen belonged to VFW Post 3892 in Harker Heights.
Survivors include three daughters, Sherry Maultsby, of Killeen, Belinda Allen, of Sacramento, Calif., and Jeannie Jaques, of Austin; brothers, Earl Wade Allen, of Pidcoke, and Ray Allen, of Lampasas; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Berger
Vicki Lynn Gossett Berger, 51, of Victoria died Aug. 21, 2005, at Victoria.
Graveside services were Aug. 25 at Shillerville Cemetery at Inez with Pastor Jeff Ruppert officiating.
Mrs. Berger was born June 3, 1954, in San Angelo, the daughter of Claude David and Annie Jean Allen Gossett. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, Royce Berger, of Victoria; her mother, Annie Jean Allen Baggett, of Victoria; sons, Wayland Berger and Damon Berger, both of Victoria; a sister, Brenda Gossett Brown, of Hallettsville; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, and by a brother, David Allen Gossett.
Pallbearers were Damon Berger, Wayland Berger, Kendrick Brown, Robert Brown, Gilbert Silgero and Nathan Moore.

John Lemburg Fuller, 75, of Lampasas died Aug. 25.
Visitation is Aug. 26 from 6-8 p.m. at Dodson Funeral Home.

Mrs. Roberts
Hortense Pearl Roberts, 93, of Lampasas died Aug. 23, 2005, at Regal Nursing & Rehabilitation Center.
Graveside services are Aug. 26 at 10 a.m. at Masonic Cemetery near Onion Creek in Austin.
Mrs. Roberts was born Sept. 11, 1911, in Austin, to John T. and Pearl Langston Matthews.
She married Johnnie F. Roberts.
Mrs. Roberts owned and operated a daycare center in Austin for many years and in Lampasas. She was from a hard-working farming and ranching family.
She is survived by a son, Johnnie F. Roberts Jr., of Lampasas; two sisters, Audrey Buckley, of Houston, and Rosemary Wagner, of Austin; three brothers, Neil Matthews, Dan Matthews and John Matthews, all of Austin; three grandchildren, Abe Gott, and wife, Lara, Casey Gott and Bryan Craven; and four great-grandchildren, Harrison, Abby, Grant and Lara.
She was preceded in death by her husband; by a daughter, Jean Gardner, in April 2005; and by three sisters and two brothers.
