Curtis Bozarth
Longtime Lampasas teacher, coach and school administrator Curtis Franklin Bozarth died July 6, 2006, at Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas. He was 94.
Funeral services were July 10 at Bozarth-Fowler Gymnasium in Lampasas with the Rev. Ed Adams and Ray Vinson officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Bozarth was born Aug. 9, 1911, in Lawrence Chapel, Texas, the son of M.T. and Beulah Yeager Bozarth.
He attended schools in the Taylor area, graduating from Taylor High School. While at Taylor, Mr. Bozarth lettered in football for four consecutive seasons and was named an outstanding quarterback and All-TIAA.
He then entered Sul Ross State College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in physical education and business administration in 1934. He received a master's degree in 1943.
Mr. Bozarth married Frances Williams on Dec. 21, 1935, in Ennis, and she preceded him in death in 1989. She also was a longtime teacher for the Lampasas Independent School District.
In 1934, Mr. Bozarth came to Lampasas, where he was hired to teach third through sixth grades. As head football coach, he brought in a friend, Sam Fowler, as his assistant.
Teaching social studies during the day and coaching well into the night were just some of the duties Mr. Bozarth was called on to accomplish.
He later became principal and superintendent of the Lampasas ISD. His tenure with the school district totaled 41 years when he retired in 1976.
When Mr. Bozarth accepted the superintendency, he named Fowler as his head football coach. But when World War II erupted and Fowler entered the service, Mr. Bozarth served as superintendent and head football coach to hold Fowler's job open.
Mr. Bozarth was inducted into the Sul Ross State University Athletic Hall of Honor in 1992 during that school's homecoming activities. At Sul Ross, Bozarth was a quarterback and played baseball.
In 1984, Mr. Bozarth served as grand marshal of the Spring Ho Parade.
Mr. Bozarth was a member of the Lions Club, Kiwanis Club, Saratoga Masonic Lodge #546 A.F. and A.M. in Lampasas and Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where he was elder emeritus.
He is survived by a daughter, Anne Alexander, of Lampasas; a son, Hal Bozarth, of Hurst; a sister, Novis Hayhurst, of Abilene; three grandchildren, Jill Savoini, Phyllis Chapa and Scott Bozarth; two step-grandchildren, Doug Williams and David Williams; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Marshall, Joe and M.C., and by three sisters, Esther Lawhon, Mildred Simank and Ethel Stern.
Memorials may be made to Fowler-Bozarth Scholarship Fund in care of Lampasas ISD, or the Curtis Bozarth Endowment at Sul Ross State University at Alpine.

Mrs. McKenzie
A private memorial service for Sage McKenzie, 73, of Lampasas was July 10, 2006, in Lampasas.
Mrs. McKenzie died July 7 at a hospital in Waxahachie.
She was born Feb. 6, 1933, in Pecos, the daughter of Thomas R. and Lenore Milam McKenzie.
Survivors include sons, Thomas Richard Haralson, and wife, Diane, of Lampasas, and Mark Allen Haralson, and wife, Renee, of Turpin, Okla.; a daughter, Leah Lenore Haralson, of Houston; grandchildren, John, Patrick, Matthew and Rachel Haralson, all of Turpin; sisters, Linda LeTard, of Atlanta, Ga., and Dorothy Murray, of Big Spring.

Mr. Doggett
Roy Neal Doggett, 87, of Lampasas died July 10, 2006, at Spring Oaks Nursing & Rehab.
Funeral services were July 13 at Sneed Funeral Chapel with Bob Nienstadt officiating. Burial will be private.
Mr. Doggett was born March 11, 1919, in Sanderson, to Jeff J. and Allie Taylor Doggett.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He married Josie Koch on Oct. 19, 1940, in Marble Falls.
Mr. Doggett had worked for Allen Motor Co. in Lampasas as a bookkeeper and also owned a local service station.
He had lived in California in the 1940s, and returned to Lampasas in 1987. He was a member of Broad Street Church of Christ. His last work was farming.
Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Noma and Glenn Fitzgerald, of Lampasas, and Linda and Bob Nienstadt, of Farmers Branch; three brothers and their wives, Dean and Gypsy Doggett, of Lampasas, and Lester and Elva Doggett and Alvin and Gertrude Doggett, all of Fort Worth; one sister, Golda Burns, of San Antonio; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Mr. Doggett was preceded in death by his wife in 1996.
The family requested memorials be made to the charity of one's choice.

Mrs. Linzey
Katie "Lucille" Pedigo Linzey of Troy, Ala., formerly of Lampasas, died July 2, 2006, at Troy Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were July 6 at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with the Rev. Wayne Locklar officiating. Burial was at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Linzee is survived by a son-in-law, Frank Gearhart, of Lampasas; grandsons, Vernon Gearhart, and wife, Debra, of Tulsa, Okla., John Gearhart, and wife, Renee, of Post, and Danny Gearhart, of Lampasas; a granddaughter, Belinda Shelburne, and husband, Larry, of Waco; a daughter, Precious Arlene Sanchez, of Lampasas; grandsons, Nicholas and Sean Sanchez and a granddaughter, Leah Sanchez, all of Lampasas.
Other children include Mona Kohler, and husband, Konrad, of Atlanta, Ga., Johnny Lindsey and Terry Linzey, both of Phoenix, Ariz., Tommy Linzey, Lane Case and husband, Ron, Ted Lindsey, Joy Campbell and husband, Norman, Charles Nicholas Linzey, and wife, Joni, all of Troy; a sister, Willie Lou Little, of Prattville, Ala.; a brother, T.J. Pedigo, of Linden, Ala.; 18 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Johnnie B. Linzey; by a daughter, Nancy Ann Gearhart; sons, Tony Linzey, James Linzey; and a son-in-law, Robert Sanchez.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Vernon Gearhart, John Gearhart, Mark Linzey, Tyson Linzey, Joshua Linzey, Jacob Linzey, Nicholas Sanchez and Sean Sanchez.
Honorary pallbearers were Louis Brown, J.C. Parent, Alan Pennington, Jeff Kervin, Michael Bundy, Jonathon Bundy, Bo Walker and Kevin Walker.

Ms. Werlinger
Kelly Diane Werlinger, 32, a dermatologist, died July 9, 2006, in Montgomery, Ala., after a struggle with depression.
Funeral services are July 15 at 11 a.m. at Foust Funeral Home in Grapevine. A graveside service is July 16 at 2 p.m. at Smithwick Cemetery east of Marble Falls off Highway 1431.
After graduating from Brown University with a degree in psychology with honors, Ms. Werlinger applied and was accepted at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. She graduated with distinction in research in June 2006.
While at Southwestern, she established the Dermatology Interest Group Assoc., to provide medical students interested in dermatology an opportunity to network and collaborate on research and service projects. There are now chapters at 28 medical schools nationwide.
In addition, Ms. Werlinger was a volunteer at Agape Free Dermatology Clinic all four years of her schooling. She recruited other students to join her and created a volunteer program.
She also worked on a number of clinical research projects, including a study investigating the prevalence of melasma in Hispanic women in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Previously, there had been no community based studies of melasma in the U.S.
Ms. Werlinger's various projects resulted in several publications, posters and oral presentations at national meetings. She started her residence in internal medicine at the University of Alabama Medical Center-Montgomery.
She also was committed to the field of dermatology and to women with vulvar skin disease.
She is survived by her mother, Lynn McClish Will, and husband, Greg, of Killer; her father, Don Werlinger, and wife, Cindy, of Houston; grandparents, Duff and Mildred McClish, formerly of Lockhart; a brother, Gregory Will; aunts and uncles, Diane McClish Grove and Bill Grove, Lellah and Joe Werlinger, James McClish, Dan Werlinger, Diane Werlinger, Dean and Matilda Werlinger, Dale Werlinger, Janell and Brett Jackman; and several cousins, other family members and friends.

Mrs. January
Anna Bell January, 96, of Lampasas died Aug. 5, 2006, at her residence.
Funeral services were Aug. 7 at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas with Dr. Rick Willis officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
Mrs. January was born Oct. 15, 1909, in Leeds, Ala., to Arthur B. and Mattie Little Dorough.
She married Charles Walter January on Oct. 31, 1924, in Coolidge, Texas.
Mrs. January was a sales clerk for Sears and later had been a secretary for January Machine Shop in the Houston area.
She had been a Lampasas resident since 1977, and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and First Baptist Church of Lampasas.
She is survived by a son, Larry January, of Sugarland; grandchildren, Walter Shanks, and wife, Denise, and Cara Haynes, and husband, Jim, all of Lampasas, Sue Robinson, and husband, Lee, of Montgomery, Ala., Gary January, and wife, Diane, of Austin, Donald January, of Houston, and Cindy January, of Phoenix; 13 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. January was preceded in death by her husband, in 1981; by a son, Bruce January; a daughter, Charlzene Shanks; a brother, Huburn Dorough; a sister, Madline Wilson; and by a granddaughter, two grandsons and one great-granddaughter.

Mrs. Sanchez
Juanita Rendon Sanchez, 88, of Lampasas died Aug. 3, 2006, at Regal Nursing & Rehab in Lampasas.
Rosary was recited Aug. 4 at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas. Funeral services were Aug. 5 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father James Harnan officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Sanchez was born June 12, 1918, in Belton, the daughter of Francisco Rendon and Jesusita Felan.
She married Atilano Sanchez Sr. in June 1932.
Mrs. Sanchez had lived in Lampasas all of her life. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She is survived by daughters, Andrea Karr, of Houston, Dora Moreno, Lupe Loya and Lydia Olivares, all of Lampasas, Henrietta Maldonado, of Marble Falls, Olivia Martinez, of Austin, Delia Dominguez, of Leander, and Theresa Morales, of Garden City, Kan.; sons, Atilano Sanchez Jr., Tony Sanchez and Ray Sanchez, all of Lampasas, Arthur Sanchez, of Marble Falls, and David Sanchez, of Garland; 46 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Sanchez was preceded in death by her husband, and by six brothers and two sisters.

Mrs. Florence
Lillie Mae "Billie" Florence of Lampasas died Aug. 1, 2006, at Spring Oaks Nursing & Rehab in Lampasas. She was 99.
Funeral services were Aug. 3 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. George Lumpkin officiating. Burial was at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Mrs. Florence was born Oct. 20, 1906, in Eastland County, the daughter of Thomas Young and Mary Jane Brotherton Butler.
She was the youngest of 18 children.
She married William Dudley "Buddy" Florence on Dec. 24, 1941, in Abilene.
Mrs. Florence had lived in Lampasas since 1940, moving from Baird.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and an active member of United Methodist Women. She was a 60-year member of Eastern Star. She also held membership in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Home Demonstration Club.
Mrs. Florence helped cook for the Lampasas Kiwanis Club for many years and was a member of the Lampasas Garden Club. She enjoyed needlework.
Survivors include a granddaughter, Rita Brown, and husband, Ed, of Lampasas; and three great-grandsons, Jeremy, William and Nathan Brown.
She was preceded in death by her husband in February 1987; by two daughters, Betty Jane Romans, on Aug. 7, 1999, and Wanda Maxine Alvarado, in March 2006; and by 17 brothers and sisters.
Great-grandsons and her grandson-in-law were pallbearers.
