Mrs. Farquhar
Funeral services for Ruth G. Farquhar, 86, of Lampasas were Aug. 28, 2006, at First Street Church of Christ with Minister Kevin Haynes officiating. Burial was at Straley Cemetery at Adamsville.
Mrs. Farquhar died Aug. 24 at Sunny Hills Nursing Home in Decatur.
She was born Aug. 30, 1919, in Sulphur Springs, the daughter of William Franklin and Ruby Alice Ward Green.
She married Ruben Claude Farquhar on May 28, 1936, in San Antonio.
Mr. Farquhar was a homemaker and a member of First Street Church of Christ.
She is survived by a daughter, Nell Cook, of Decatur; a son, Jerry Farquhar, of Lampasas; sisters, Floy Caudle, of Sulphur Springs, and Verna Wood, of Temple; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and by six sisters and three brothers.

Mrs. Moreno
Funeral Mass for Rebeca Moreno, 94, of Lubbock is Aug. 29, 2006, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lampasas with the Rev. Pedro Castillo presiding. Rosary was read Aug. 27 and 28 at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel in Lampasas. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
Mrs. Moreno died Aug. 25 at her daughter's residence.
She was born May 5, 1912, in Floresville, the daughter of Abraham and Camila Esparza Hernandez.
She married Santos R. Moreno on July 27, 1927, in Sinton. She had lived in Lampasas prior to moving to Lubbock.
Mrs. Moreno was a homemaker and attended St. Mary's Catholic Church in Lampasas. She was a member of St. Mary's Our Lady of Guadalupe Society and the Cursillistas.
She also belonged to John Neumann Catholic Church in Lubbock.
Mrs. Moreno enjoyed cooking, crocheting and growing plants.
She is survived by daughters, Carol M. Nunez, and husband, David, of Copperas Cove, Cecilia Rivera, of Wilson, Rosie Perez, and husband, Carlos, and Julia Ramos, and husband, Ysmael, all of San Angelo, Helen Infante, and husband, Fred, of Angleton, Lilly Gomez, and husband, Tony, of Round Rock, Mary Ann Aldrich, of Lubbock, and Jeronima Rebecca Harnsberry, of Austin; 60 grandchildren; 104 great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; one great-great-great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 6, 1990; by a daughter, Maria Rendon, on May 29, 2004; by a son, Juan Moreno, in 1994, an infant son, Santos Moreno, in July 1943; by four sisters; and one brother.
The family requested memorials be made to St. Mary's Our Lady of Guadalupe Society or to St. Mary's Catholic Church Scholarship Fund.

Mr. Thorp
Lampasas businessman L.H. "Bob" Thorp, 88, died Aug. 26, 2006, at his residence.
Funeral services are Aug. 29 at 2 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel with Minister Reid Schaub officiating. Burial will be at Watson Cemetery in Burnet County.
Mr. Thorp was born in Copperas Cove, the son of Lewis Wilson and Nellie Gipson Thorp.
He was reared at Bend with his eight brothers and sisters, where he was close to his grandma, Matilda Tow Thorp, and he enjoyed trips to visit her by buggy all the way to Tow.
Mr. Thorp's first job away from home was for Brown and Root Co., clearing the basin for Lake Buchanan. He spent his years during World War II in Dallas, building airplanes for North American Aviation.
In 1958, Mr. Thorp moved to Lampasas and opened Bob's Garage, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 1983.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian J. Thorp, of Lampasas; a son, David Thorp, and wife, Alice, of Lampasas; a daughter, Louise Watson, and husband, Galen, of Lampasas; five grandchildren, Robbie Cesare, James Watson, Tracy Bell, Cezanne Youngblood and David Lee Thorp; five great-grandchildren, Michael Youngblood, Christopher Youngblood, Rhiannon Cesare, Cassie Cesare and Jared Bell; brothers, Arvel and Jim Thorp; and sisters, Bonnie Greene and Erma Gene Glasscock.
Mr. Thorp was preceded in death by two brothers, Boone Thorp and Bill Thorp, and by two sisters, Ann and Zona.

Mrs. Durham
Currie Katherine Bell Durham died Oct. 13, 2006, at Spring Oaks Terrace Nursing & Rehab in Lampasas. She was 81.
Funeral services, with Minister Reid Schaub officiating, are Oct. 17 at 10 a.m. at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel in Lampasas. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
Mrs. Durham was born May 15, 1915, in Oakalla, to Jesse and Julia Hine Bell.
She married Clifford Keaney Durham on June 9, 1938, in Moody, and he preceded her in death on Jan. 24, 2002.
Mrs. Durham graduated from Copperas Cove High School in 1933 and attended Southwest Teachers State School in San Marcos.
Before her marriage, she taught in Topsey for several years. She was a member of Topsey United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, led a youth group and was the church pianist.
Mrs. Durham was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son and his wife, Curtis and Marsha Durham, of Lampasas; two daughters and their husbands, Barbara and John Cason, of Lampasas, and Shirley Rice and Doyle Channell, of Georgetown; a brother, Morris, and wife, Ama Bell, of Gatesville; a sister, Oma Mae Brashear, of Gilmer; seven grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gahan
James Kendrick Gahan, 79, of Lampasas died Oct. 14, 2006.
Funeral services are Oct. 19 at 10 a.m. at Northridge Park Baptist Church in San Antonio with burial at Sunset Memorial Park in San Antonio.
Mr. Gahan was born March 15, 1927, in Grand Rapids, Mich., the son of Douglas and Cecile Brewer Gahan.
He married Bobbie Bernice Henderson on Aug. 28, 1947, in San Antonio. They were co-owners of the Merle Norman Cosmetics franchise in San Antonio for many years, operating seven stores throughout the city.
Mr. Gahan enjoyed fishing and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
He is survived by his wife; a sister, Marilyn Quay, and brother-in-law, Marvin Quay; a daughter, Cheryl Leavell, and son-in-law, Neal Leavell; three granddaughters, Leigh Ann, Alyssa and Laura Leavell; one nephew; and three nieces.
Visitation is Oct. 17 from 6-8 p.m. at First United Methodist Church's Wesley Fellowship Hall in Lampasas.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or to Mr. Gahan's home church, Northridge Park Baptist of San Antonio.

Mr. Michelli
Retired Lt. Col. John R. Michelli II, 62, of Copperas Cove died Oct. 2, 2006, at the Temple Veterans Administration Hospital.
Funeral services were Oct. 5 at First Baptist Church in Lampasas with Dr. Rick Willis officiating. Burial was at Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with full military honors.
Mr. Michelli was born May 28, 1944, in Baton Rouge, La., to John and Helen D'Villier Michelli.
He earned a bachelor of arts degree from Louisiana State University and two master's degrees from Tulane University.
Mr. Michelli joined the U.S. Army and served for 23 years in various duty stations around the world. He received numerous commendations, including Silver Star, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star and Purple Heart.
He was a Ranger commander, a Delta Forces commander and a Royal Irish Ranger.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn Michelli, of Copperas Cove; his mother of Baton Rouge; a sister, Sandra Michelli, of Baton Rouge; mother-in-law, Evelyn Bridges, of Lampasas; two brothers-in-law, Otis Bridges, and wife, Linda, of Conroe, and Lee Bridges, and wife, Connie, of San Antonio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requested memorials be made to MD Anderson Cancer Research for renal cell carcinoma, 1515 Holcombi Blvd., Houston, TX 77030-4009.

Mr. Roberts
Clayton Roberts of Lampasas died Oct. 1, 2006, in Lampasas. He was 87.
Funeral services were Oct. 4 at Calvary Baptist Church. Burial was at Warner Cemetery at Lake Victor.
Mr. Roberts was born Feb. 10, 1919, at Blanco.
He was a 62-year resident of Lampasas and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Roberts belonged to the Church of Christ.
He was married to Annie Bailey on March 24, 1942, in Blanco County.
Survivors include sons, James Roberts, Don Jay Roberts, Jess Roberts and Donald Roberts, all of Lampasas, and Ray Roberts, of Copperas Cove; daughters, Nancy Powell and Jessie and Terry Mercy, all of Lampasas, and Anna Lee and Jay Martin, of Kingsland; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife on June 24, 1968; by two sons, John Roberts and Ted Roberts; and by two sisters, Ruby Trammell and Susie Pale.

Mr. Elkins
Russell Lee Elkins, formerly of Lometa, died Sept. 27, 2006 at his home in Gorman at the age of 84.
Funeral services were Sept. 30 at Sneed Funeral Chapel, with Geoff Litke officiating. Interment followed at Long Cove Cemetery near Lometa.
Born April 8, 1922, in West Terre Haute, Ind., he was the son of Mally Claude Elkins and Amy Sophia Baker Elkins.
Mr. Elkins was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He landed in Normandy on D-Day, where he fought continuously through six major campaigns and was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery.
He retired from civil service at Fort Hood after 28 years of service and then went to work farming and ranching on his ranch in Lometa.
He and his wife, Vera Evelyn Elkins, reared their children and spent most of their adult life in Lampasas County. Due to health reasons, the couple moved to Gorman in June to be closer to their children.
Mr. Elkins is survived by his wife of Gorman; daughters Lois Ann Medart and husband, Bill, of Gorman, and Nelda June Franks and husband, Mark, of Brownwood; son Micheal Lee Elkins and wife, Crissy, of Saginaw; three sisters, Ruth Lee of Euless, Lois Langford of Indianapolis, Ind., and Betty Horsley of Sheridan, Wyo.; and 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Ruth Cox; two sisters; and six brothers.
Pallbearers were Mr. Elkins' grandsons Howard Cox, Richard Cox, Steven Cox, Dennis Moore, Bryan Medart and Michael Franks.
The family requested memorials be made to Masonic Children's Home.

Mrs. Powell
Funeral services for Lena Powell, 88, of Lampasas are Oct. 6, 2006, at 2 p.m. at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel in Lampasas with Pastor Louis Goode officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
Mrs. Powell died Sept. 30 at Spring Oaks Terrace Nursing Home in Lampasas.
She was born July 17, 1918, in DeRoche, Ark., to Charles Melvin and Rose Ettie Miller Hale.
Mrs. Powell had lived in Lampasas since 1935, moving from Arkansas.
She had been a nursing assistant at Leisure Lodge (now Regal Nursing & Rehab) in Lampasas. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include children, Melvin Powell, and wife, Bertie, of Brownwood, J.R. Powell and Jo Hamilton, and husband, T.J., Charles Powell, Deborah Morin, and Robert Powell, and wife, Debbie, all of Lampasas, Joyce Goode, and husband, Fulton, of Killeen, Allen Powell, and wife, Rose, of Wheaton, Ill., and Ray Powell, of Austin; brothers, James Hale and Roy Hale, both of Lampasas, Hyler Hale, of Salado, and Aubrey Hale, of Killeen; a sister, Evelyn McLean, of Marble Falls; 38 grandchildren; 77 great-grandchildren; 38 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Powell, on Feb. 18, 1990; by two brothers and a sister; by two sons and a daughter; and a grandson and two granddaughters.
Pallbearers are Rodger Powell, Bobby Hamilton, David Goode, Everett Herr, Curtis Powell, Chris Ford, Larry Powell and Melvin Glenn.
