Cleo Emerson
Cleo Laverne Emerson, 92, of Wilson, Okla., died Sept. 21, 2006, in Lampasas, and funeral services were Sept. 23 at Alexander Funeral Chapel in Wilson with the Rev. Ron Eaves officiating. Burial was at Hewitt Cemetery.
Cleo Emerson was born June 20, 1914, in Wilson, the daughter of James Monroe and Ellen Couch Claxton.
She was reared in Wilson, living all of her life there until 2005, when she moved to Lampasas to be nearer to her family.
During her working years, she was a grocery clerk for Hoss Harveys and a waitress at Dudes Diner.
More recently, she was a volunteer and delivered meals to senior citizens for the Meals on Wheels nutrition program.
She is survived by daughters, Herma Jean Lindsay, of Leander, and Ginger Armstrong, and husband, Fred, of Oklahoma City; sons, Bob Emerson, and wife, Vicki, of Lampasas, and Leon Emerson, and wife, Patsy, of Wilson; and nine grandchildren, Clifton Lindsay, and wife, Vicki, Kevin Lindsay, and wife, Linda, Melanie Gaylord, Macey Blankenship, and husband, J.J., Molly McGuire, and husband, Brad, Kelly Whatley, and husband, Greg, Kenny Emerson, and wife, Robin, Truitt Armstrong, and wife, Heather, and Jennifer Armstrong.
Other survivors include 18 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by sisters, Marie Beck and Clovis Claxton; by brothers, Eunice and Curtis Claxton; and by a son-in-law, Wayne Lindsay.
Pallbearers were Clifton Lindsay, Kevin Lindsay, Kenny Emerson, Truitt Armstrong, Brad McGuire, J.J. Blankenship and Greg Whatley.

Mrs. Torres
Erlinda G. Torres, 64, of Wharton died Sept. 18, 2006, in a Webster hospital following an extended illness.
Rosary was recited Sept. 21 at Wharton Funeral Home Chapel, with a funeral mass on Sept. 22 at Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Wharton. The Rev. Carlos Lynch officiated. Burial was at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.
Mrs. Torres was born Dec. 8, 1941, in Lampasas, the daughter of the late Albert and Paula Rodriguez Garza.
She had resided in Wharton since 1964, and was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church.
She married Andrew Gomez Torres on May 12, 1957.
Mrs. Torres was a homemaker.
She is survived by two daughters, Dolores D'Amore, and husband, Steve, of Elverson, Pa., and Christine Torres, of Vidor; sons, King Torres, and wife, Sandra, of Houston, Mike Torres, of Wharton, Danny Torres, of Glen Flora, and Andrew Torres, and wife, Anita, of Crossville, Tenn.; brothers, Albert Garza and Zaragosa Garza, both of Lampasas, and Frank Garza, of Austin; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Torres was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 29, 1994; by a daughter; and by a sister.
Pallbearers were Chris D'Amore, Michael Torres, Andrew Torres III, Danny Torres Jr., Joey Torres, Brian Torres, King Torres Jr. and Ken Torres.

Mr. Howard
J.D. Howard Jr., 83, died Nov. 4, 2006.
Graveside services were Nov. 6 at Santa Anna Cemetery in Santa Anna.
Mr. Howard was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Coleman County.
He married Freda Schulle on Oct. 3, 1947, in Santa Anna. They moved to Midland in 1955, and he joined El Paso Natural Gas, later transferring to Oil Center in New Mexico.
They returned to Midkiff where they resided until he retired in 1983 as plant operator. The Howards moved to Lampasas in July 1983, and in March 2006, they moved to Greenwood to be near their family.
Mr. Howard is survived by his wife of Greenwood; a daughter, Elaine Fretwell, and husband, John, of Greenwood; a brother, Tom Howard, and wife, Bobbie, of Zephyr; a sister, Inez Morrow, and husband, Joe, of Bluffdale; grandchildren, Janet Lopez, and husband, Eric, of Andrews, and David Fretwell, and wife, Claudia, of Midland; and great-granddaughters, McCayla and Taylor Lopez.

Mr. Jones
James Vance (Jim) Jones died Nov. 5, 2006, at his Rockdale home. He was 87.
A memorial service was held Nov. 8 at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Rockdale.
Mr. Jones was born Sept. 3, 1919, in Burnet County, the youngest son of Andrew Ernest and Nora McLean Jones.
He graduated from Lampasas schools and was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1940, and subsequently transferred to the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he became a B-26 pilot. Mr. Jones flew 52 missions in the European theater during World War II between 1943-45.
During his military service, he married Montez Rhodes of San Saba, on Jan. 10, 1943.
Following World War II, Mr. Jones returned home to attend Sul Ross College in Alpine, and in 1948, he joined Brown & Root to work on the construction of Fort Hood and then the dams that made the Texas Highland Lakes.
In 1952, Mr. Jones was hired by The Aluminum Company of America's Rockdale Works, where he became the electrical maintenance superintendent. He retired from Alcoa's Rockdale Plant in October 1981.
Mr. Jones was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church where he served on the Building Committee, as the men's Sunday School teacher and in other capacities.
He also served as a Scoutmaster, a member of the Rockdale City Council and was a member of the National D-Day Museum in New Orleans, La.
He is survived by his wife of Rockdale; three children, J.K. Jones, and wife, Tonia, of Houston, Andrew E. Jones III, of San Antonio, and Kimberly Jones Pribble, and husband, James, of Austin; and seven grandchildren, Andrew E. Jones IV, Jennifer Jones, Jonathan Ryan Jones, James Brandon Jones, Cyril Vance Jones, Edward McLean Jones and Anthony James Jones.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Mr. Lindsey
Joe Carruthers Lindsey, 74, of Lampasas County died Nov. 8, 2006, at his residence.
Funeral services are Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel in Lampasas with Minister Reid Schaub officiating.
The body will be cremated.
A memorial service is set for Nov. 11 at 11 a.m. at Willow Springs Golf Course in Haslet.
Mr. Lindsey was born Nov. 16, 1931, in San Angelo, the son of Joe Bailey and Hattie Thompson Lindsey.
He attended John T. Tarleton College in Stephenville and served in the U.S. Army. He later earned a degree in agriculture from East Texas State University.
Mr. Lindsey founded Willow Springs Golf Course in 1966 on the family farm in Haslet.
He married Betty Thomas in 1996, and they had lived in Lampasas since 1998 where Mr. Lindsey raised Brangus cattle on their Adamsville ranch.
Survivors include his wife of Lampasas; four children, Dacus Lindsey, and wife, Tonya, Erik Lindsey, Dawn Lindsey and Autumn Johnson, and husband, Jim; two stepdaughters, Kristin Yates, and husband, Dan, and Melissa Billmyre, and husband, Shane; a sister, Melissa Stewart; and grandchildren, Nathan Lindsey, Jordan Hoffmann, Caitlyn Yates, Chandler Yates, Taylor Billmyre and Alexis Billmyre.
Mr. Lindsey was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Lindsey.
The family requested memorials be made to the American Heart Association.

Mr. Nichols
Graveside services for Mark Lee Nichols of Austin are Nov. 10, 2006, at 1 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery in Abilene with Phil Ware officiating.
Mr. Nichols died Nov. 5 at his residence. He was 46.
He was born April 9, 1960, in Abilene, the son of James Walter and Bettye L. Elrod Nichols.
Mr. Nichols was an appliance salesman in Austin.
Survivors include a daughter, Cara Beth Nichols, of Lampasas; his mother of Abilene; an aunt, Sherryl Durkee, of Houston; and cousins, Gretchen Whitehill, of Austin, and Jennifer Isola, of Houston.
He was preceded in death by his father, and a brother, Jay Matthew Nichols.

Mrs. Walsh
Sue J. Walsh, 65, of Lometa, formerly of Round Rock, died Nov. 5, 2006, at her residence.
Graveside services were Nov. 9 at Center Cemetery near Lometa.
Mrs. Walsh was born May 28, 1941, in Baytown, to Charles Lovelace and Mary Hunter Justice.
She lived in many places throughout Texas in her life, and enjoyed sharing stories of her encounters.
Mrs. Walsh had lived in Round Rock for most of the last 28 years, until she and her husband, Jim Walsh, moved to a ranch outside of Lometa.
She is survived by her husband of Lometa; a son, Steve Todd, and wife, Denise, of Austin; grandchildren, Alyson Todd, Ashley Todd and Alex Todd; her mother, Mary Nance, and husband, John; a sister, Tiggie Boswell, and husband, Jim; and a stepdaughter, Janet Walsh; and many friends.

Mr. Wright
Robert T. Wright, of Lampasas, a registered pharmacist, died Oct. 24, 2006, at Rollins Brook Community Hospital in Lampasas. He was 75.
Private services were held at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home in Lampasas with Monsignor Emilian Foltyn officiating.
Mr. Wright was born July 1, 1931, in Eagle Lake, to Terry and Mary Maggie Lee Herrington Wright.
He and Rosalie Ann Krenek were married for 55 years.
Mr. Wright was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a degree in pharmacy.
He began his career with the Eli Lilly Co. and was recognized as the number-one pharmaceutical sales representative in the nation.
Mr. Wright received a 50-year achievement award from the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. He owned several pharmacies, including Wallis Drug in Wallis, Mainland Pharmacy and Triangle Pharmacy, both in Texas City, and Wright-Way Pharmacy in LaGrange.
In 1971, Mr. Wright followed his dreams to become a rancher and moved to Lampasas. He also worked in several pharmacies in the Lampasas, Copperas Cove and Killeen area.
In the late 1970s and early 1980s, he purchased Gorman Falls Recreation Camp in Bend, which is now part of the Colorado Bend State Park.
Mr. Wright later became a real estate agent and mortgage broker, forming Southern Mortgage Brokers and WW Investments.
He was a member of the Catholic church, the Knights of Columbus and was a Texas Ex.
Mr. Wright had numerous hobbies and interests including painting, reading, writing and ranching. He also was an avid Texas Longhorn fan.
He is survived by his wife of Lampasas; sons, Gregory Wright, Tracy Wright and wife, Yolie, and Mike Wright and wife, Jessica; one daughter, Terry Tucker, and husband, Howard; brothers, Kenneth Wright, and wife, Barbara, Melvin Wright and wife, Gloria, Dr. Gary Wright and wife, Diane, and Curtis Wright; a sister, Brenda Wilson; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Preston Wright Tucker, and a sister-in-law, Johnna McGraw Wright.
