Mrs. Williams
Funeral services for Nona L. Williams, 79, of Gainesville were Jan. 17, 2007, at Clement-Keel Funeral Home in Gainesville. Ronnie Quaid, pastor of Commerce Street Church of Christ, and Lay-Minister J.W. Hamby of Plainview officiated.
Burial was at Fairview Cemetery at Gainesville.
Mrs. Williams died Jan. 14 at Pecan Tree Health and Rehab Center in Gainesville.
She was born Sept. 17, 1927, in Chillicothe, the daughter of Walter L. and Ann Elizabeth Merrifield Carter.
Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and a member of Commerce Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Carroll and LaVera Smith, of Lubbock, Malcom and Debbie Foster, of Gainesville, and Terry and Lisa Foster, of China Springs; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister and her husband, Betty and Keith Fontaine, of Lampasas; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a sister, LaVerne Pettigrew, of Atoka, Okla., and a brother, Jeff D. Carter, of Gainesville.
Pallbearers were Jack Frost, Mike Murphree, Keith Fontaine, Jody Smith, Cody Foster and Jay Foster.
Mrs. Green
Joyce Mae Green, 87, of Lampasas died Jan. 17, 2007, at Scott & White Memorial Hospital in Temple.
Funeral services were Jan. 21 at Sneed Funeral Chapel with Minister Reid Schaub officiating. Burial was at Townsen Cemetery near Adamsville.
Mrs. Green was born Dec. 25, 1919, in Lampasas County, the daughter of Edward Ernest and Leona Strater Sims.
She married Vanoy Green on Sept. 25, 1938, and he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Green operated a shoe store and fabric shop for Harry Shapiro on the square in Lampasas for a number of years, and she then purchased the fabric portion of the business for a combined 21 years.
Mrs. Green was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include two sisters, Geneva Thompson, of Gustine, and Gladys Bain, of Lampasas; and one brother, Jack Sims, of Temple.
The family requested memorials be made to Townsen Cemetery Association.

Mr. Jones
Luther Douglas (Doug) Jones died after a long battle with cancer on Jan. 20, 2007. He was 70.
Funeral services are Jan. 23 at First Baptist Church of Adamsville with the Revs. Glynn Tyson and Jerry Stratton officiating. Burial will be at Straley Cemetery.
Mr. Jones was born Aug. 12, 1936, to lifelong Adamsville residents Luke and Lena Jones.
He graduated from Lampasas High School in 1955.
Mr. Jones joined the Austin Police Department in September 1960, where he served until March 1970. He then accepted a position as deputy U.S. marshall in Dallas. He served as chief deputy for 10 years until his retirement from the U.S. Marshall Service in August 2003.
Mr. Jones was a member of First Baptist Church of Adamsville and the Thomas B. Hunter & Mountain Creek Lodge in Grand Prairie. He also was a member of Bee House Lodge in Evant and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason and York Rite Mason.
He was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a lifetime member of both the International Guard Association of Texas and the U.S. Marshall Posse of North Texas.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife of 47 years, Ann Jones, of Adamsville; by daughters, Sharon Mayer, and husband, Paul, of Garland, Betty Ann Quicksall, of Dallas, Pamela Hope Brack, of Red Oak, and Jacquelyn Pierce; and grandchildren, David Lewis, and wife, Tammy, and their children, Kelsey Jean and Zachary Lewis, all of Grand Prairie, Christopher Lewis, of Arlington, Jennifer Lewis, of Dallas, Joshua Lewis, of Arlington, and his daughter, Kaylee Anne Lewis, of Cedar Hill, Mollie Quicksall, of Dallas, Natalie Cordova, and husband, Daniel, of Los Angeles, Calif.; and Zachary and Mackenzie Mayer, of Garland.
Other survivors are brothers, Darrell Jones, and wife, Gilma, Hiram Jones, and wife, Linda, all of Adamsville, and their children, Troy Jones, and son, of Lampasas; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Betty and Hoyt Mothershead, of Benton, Mo.; and several uncles and cousins, nieces and nephews and their families, and other relatives.
Mr. Jones was preceded in death by a brother, Alan Jones, and by a sister-in-law, Therma Nell Jones.

Mr. Brindley
Clyde Owens Brindley, 89, died at his home in Jan. 10, 2007.
Funeral services were Jan. 13 at Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel in San Saba. Burial followed near his San Saba County ranch.
Mr. Brindley was born Feb. 17, 1917, in Temple, the son of Dr. George Valter and Martha Arabella Owens Brindley Sr.
He graduated from the University of Texas and Duke University Medical School and was trained at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Mayo Clinic.
Mr. Brindley was a captain in the Army Medical Corps in World War II. He was employed at the National Cancer Institute and was a founding member of the Easter Solid Tumor Cooperative Group, the first in the country.
He was a member of the Veterans Administration Lung Cancer Study Group and was on its board of directors. Mr. Brindley advocated attempts to control cancer when the cells were still pre-malignant.
Following retirement, Mr. Brindley became a member of the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association and owned land in Texas and Colorado.
He and his wife, Gwendolyn, had no children.

Mr. Tucker
Frankie Wayne Tucker Sr., 56, of Lampasas, formerly of Laredo died Jan. 12, 2007, at his residence.
Funeral services were Jan. 15 at Lometa Church of Christ with Minister Darnell Boyd officiating. Burial was at Williams Ranch Cemetery near Mullin.
Mr. Tucker was born Sept. 14, 1950, in Kaufman, the son of Frank Junior and Mary Walker Tucker.
He was a self-employed truck driver and had lived in Laredo for 20 years before moving to Lampasas six months ago.
Survivors include two sons, Jamey Tucker, of Lometa, and Frankie Tucker, and wife, Shannon, of Abilene; a daughter, Sabrina McKenzie, and husband, Stephen, of Lometa; two grandchildren, Ashley McKenzie and Jason Tucker; and an aunt.
The family requested memorials be made to the charity of one's choice.

Mrs. Hinson
Grace Carolyn Hinson, 74, died March 23, 2007.
Funeral services are March 27 at 2 p.m. at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel in Lampasas. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
Mrs. Hinson was born oct. 31, 1932, in San Antonio, the daughter of Jerry and Katharine Harwell.
A graduate of Amarillo High School and Oklahoma University, she was a member of Chi Omega sorority.
Mrs. Hinson served as a docent at the Kimbell Art Museum and was a member of The Woman's Club of Fort Worth.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed gardening and listening to music.
Survivors include her children, Jeff Hinson, and wife, Gennifer, Paul Hinson and Loydale Schmid; grandchildren, Russell and Rachel Hinson and Kassie and Connor Schmid; a sister, Kay Westerfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Burkes
Former Lampasas County Democratic Chairman C.W. Burkes of Lampasas died March 19, 2007, at Rollins Brook Community Hospital. He was 70.
Funeral services are March 24 at 2 p.m. at First Street Church of Christ with Minister Reid Schaub officiating, assisted by Minister Kevin Haynes. Burial will follow at Nix Cemetery.
Visitation is scheduled tonight from 6-8 p.m. at Sneed Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Burkes was born May 23, 1936 in Lampasas, the son of Clyde Haywood Burkes and Neva Irene Bradley Burkes.
He was a Lampasas High School graduate.
Mr. Burkes married Barbara Riley on June 9, 1956, in Irving.
He was a machinist for Rockwell International for more than 30 years. After he retired, the he and his wife moved back to Lampasas and began their involvement in various community endeavors.
Mr. Burkes was a member of First Street Church of Christ and Saratoga Masonic Lodge #546 AF & AM. He also was very active in the Lampasas County Democratic Party.
Survivors include his wife of Lampasas; a daughter, Cynthia Brock, of Lampasas; a son, Wayne Burkes, of Round Rock; sisters, Jana Kay Gibson, of Lampasas, and Ray Mel Land, of Irving; half-sisters, Debbie McClure, of Gatesville, and Pam Taylor, of Oglesby; a step-brother, Ronald S. Alexander, of Lampasas; and three grandchildren, Peter Burkes, and Heather, Andrew Burkes and Clint Burkes.

Mrs. Ince
Eastland resident Blanche Edith Ince, 86, died March 18, 2007, at Valley View Health Care Center in Eastland.
Funeral services were March 21 at Briggs-Gamel-Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel in Lampasas with the Revs. Lonnie Tedford, Cecil Tedford and John Howard Jr. officiating. Burial was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Lake Victor.
Mrs. Ince was born Oct. 22, 1920, in Burnet, the daughter of Frank and Eva Mae Cowan Stewart.
She married Charles Ince and was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.
Survivors include two sons, William Ince and Donald Ince, both of Eastland; three daughters and their husbands, Dorothy and Mackey Sellars, of Comanche, Lillie and Jay Langley, of Caldwell, and Martha and Jimmy Wilkins, of Bangs; one brother, Alton Stewart, of Lampasas; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-and great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; by a brother, J.C. Stewart; a sister, Nell Fallon; three sons, Charles Marion Ince, Edward Eugene Ince and Vonnie Mack; by a grandson, William Thomas Ince; and by a granddaughter, Maria Ince.
Pallbearers were Larry McCrary, Charlie McCrary, Jeff Stewart, Josh Stewart, Kenneth Langley and Stephen Wilkins.
Honorary pallbearers were John Mann and Billy Sellars.

Mr. Butler
Charles Elmer Butler, 73, of Lampasas died March 8, 2007, at Metroplex Hospital in Killeen.
Graveside services were March 16 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lampasas.
Mr. Butler was born Feb. 3, 1934, in Staunton, Ill., to Jacob Andrew and Mildred Katherine Trauernicht Butler.
Mr. Butler never married. He worked in various jobs all related to ocean freight hauling.
He is survived by two brothers, Bill Butler, of Elm Mott, and Walter Butler, of New Douglas, Ill.; and by a half-brother, Alfred Kessman, of Old Ripley, Ill.
