Haynes
Funeral services for Roosevelt Haynes, 57, of Rockdale were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2001, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Thorndale with Rev. Larry Caldwell of Mt. Zion Baptist officiating. Burial was in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale.
Mr. Haynes died Tuesday, June 5, in a Rockdale nursing home.
A lifelong resident of Thorndale, he was born Feb. 23, 1944, in Amarillo to Carl James and Lottie Bell (Washington) Haynes. He was a laborer in road construction.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Hubert Haynes.
Survivors are a son, Roosevelt Haynes Jr. of Austin; two daughters, Renetta Haynes and Annette Campbell, both of Austin; and five sisters, Velmetta Mitchell of Thorndale, Willie Bell Watson of Lubbock, Annie Bell Kuykendall of Los Angeles, California, Ola May Hastings of Slaton and Rose Marie Carr of Houston; also, seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Eugene Hargers, Curtis Hargers, Robert Hargers, William Johnson, James Bradford and James S. Gipson.
Moraw
CAMERON – Funeral services for Mary Aline Moraw, 85, of Clute, formerly of Milam County, were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 12, 2001, at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Cameron with Rev. Tom Hanus officiating. Burial followed in St. Monica’s Cemetery.
Mrs. Moraw died Saturday in a nursing facility in Clute.
A homemaker, she was born Feb. 28, 1916, in Milam County. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Brazoria.
Mrs. Moraw was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Paul Moraw, on Nov. 8, 1992.
Survivors are two sons, Richard Moraw of Clute and William Moraw of Brazoria; and four grandsons, Ryan, Patrick, Michael and Reed.
Flanagin
CAMERON – Funeral services for Corinne Wilson Flanagin, 84, of Houston, were held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 11, 2001, in the Kathryn W. Green Chapel of Green-Patterson Funeral Home in Cameron with Rev. James E. Lafferty officiating.
Graveside services and interment were held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, June 11, at the Oakwood Cemetery in Teague.
Mrs. Flanagin died Friday, June 8, at her residence in Houston.
She was born March 5, 1917, in Teague.
A graduate of Teague High School and the University of Texas, she was a retired school lunchroom supervisor for schools in Bryan and Beaumont.
Survivors are two sons, Joe Mingus of Sheridan, Wyoming, and Tim Mingus of Houston; a daughter, Margaret Cassady of Flower Mound; three stepsons, Jerry Flanagin of Houston, Kyle Flanagin of Houston and Jimmy Flanagin of Austin; a stepdaughter, Beth Goins of Houston; a brother, Gene Wilson of Fairfield; three sisters, Kathryn W. (Kay) Green of Cameron, Rosalie Withrow of Thousand Oaks, California, and Opal Hanbey of Marysville, Washington; and three grandchildren, Chad Cassady, Kenny Mingus and Katy Carter.
Gilbreath
Graveside services for Patsy S. Gilbreath, 54, of Houston, formerly of Thorndale, were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 7, 2001, at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Rockdale with Rev. David Gage of First Baptist Church in Thrall officiating.
Miss Gilbreath died Monday, June 4, at a medical center in Webster.
A resident of Houston for 22 years, she was born Aug. 7, 1946 in Lockney to Richard Gilbreath and Ida Mae Fredrick.
Preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, Donley Gilbreath.
Survivors are three brothers, Dan Gilbreath of Fairfield, Jack Gilbreath of Cedar Creek and Larry Gilbreath of Leander; and a sister, Mary Ann Stauffer of Pasadena; also, ten nieces and nephews.
Watterson
CAMERON – Funeral services for Marion Watterson, 59, of Olongapo City in the Philippine Islands, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2001, at Marlow Baptist Church with Rev. James Lafferty officiating. Burial followed at the Marlow Community Cemetery.
Mr. Watterson died Wednesday, May 30, in the Philippines.
A retired Navy veteran of the Vietnam Conflict, he was born Aug. 6, 1942, in Houston to Jack and Dorthy Dell Posey Watterson.
Survivors are his wife, Lourdes Ebreo Watterson of the Philippine Islands; a son, Richard Watterson of Katy; his mother, Dorthy Clark of Junction; a brother, Weldon Watterson of Tulsa, Oklahoma; and a sister, Joyce Green of Kansas City, Missouri; also, several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins, along with a host of friends around the world.
Moore
BARTLETT – Funeral services for Lois Adeline Moore, 97, of Bartlett will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2001, at Goodnight Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Ed Wilks officiating. Burial will be in the Bartlett City Cemetery.
Mrs. Moore died Monday, June 11, in a Bartlett nursing home.
A homemaker, she was born Dec. 31, 1903 in the Oatmeal community of Burnet County to Charles Robert Wilks and Lucy Elizabeth Thornton. She married Ralph W. Moore on Oct. 8, 1925, in Belton. He preceded her in death.
Survivors are a sister-in-law, Mrs. F.E. (Opel) Wilks of Taylor; a nephew, Ed Wilks of Belton; also, 12 nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be family members and staff.

Berry
THORNDALE – Funeral services for Grace Davis Berry, 103, of Thorndale, were held Saturday, July 28, 2001 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Thorndale. Burial followed in the nearby Locklin Cemetery. She died Monday, July 23, 2001.
Mrs. Berry was born June 28, 1898, near San Gabriel, to James Theodore and Minnie Louise Fulcher. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Gladys and her brother, Theo.
Mrs. Berry, in the first few minutes on New Year’s Day, 2000, exclaimed, "I made it!" She was referring to the awesome fact that she had lived in three centuries.
Mrs. Berry grew up in Thorndale and was the valedictorian of her graduating class in 1915. She married Charles A. Davis on her 19th birthday, June 28, 1917. Their two sons, Keith and Neil, were born in the home that she continued to live in until the day she left to be with the Lord. She was widowed during the Depression. To provide for her family she worked in a dry goods store, took boarders into her home and supervised a community canning operation.
On May 18, 1941 she married James L. Berry. They were able to celebrate over 40 years together. Mrs. Berry worked in the main cashier’s cage in Monnig’s Department Store during the 17 years they lived in Fort Worth.
Upon returning to Thorndale, Mrs. Berry began her 39-year devotion to the Thorndale Champion newspaper. She continued to work as a reporter until retiring on her 102nd birthday. Mrs. Berry’s centenarian employment impressed all who knew her or heard about this accomplishment. She was honored with a segment on The Texas Country Reporter television show, numerous TV interviews, several phone calls from the David Letterman Show and news releases from the Associated Press to many statewide publications.
Mrs. Berry was a member of the Thorndale First Baptist Church and served her church and community in many capacities during her life. She was honored by being Thorndale’s Outstanding Citizen in 1988 and enjoyed riding in various convertibles as Grand Marshal for numerous Thorndale parades. She loved to crochet and gave most of her colorful afghans as gifts or donated them to local raffles and fund raisers.
Mrs. Berry spent hours in her lovely yard and had the ability to make anything grow. She kept her mind active by reading numerous newspapers, doing word puzzles, and reading her devotional and Bible each day. She was known as an encourager, a hard worked and a good listener. She has blessed her family was a legacy of faith, citizenship, daily perseverance and the certainty that they were dearly loved.
Surviving are: Sons, Keith Davis and wife Mary Sue of Thorndale and Neil Davis of Los Alamos, NM; grandchildren, Charles Davis and wife Tina of Cave Creek, AZ, Jean Davis Hejl and husband Allen of Thorndale, Scott Davis and wife Ardis of Mulkilteo, WA, Tim Davis and wife Grace of Spokane, WA and Phil Cates and wife Texana of Odessa; great grandchildren Keith, Sophia Grace, Julie, Keri, Kelli, Jennifer, Kimber, Shanon and Laura.
A project near and dear to Mrs. Berry’s heart was to provide scholarships to Thorndale’s graduates. Memorial contributions may be made to the Thorndale Ex-Students Scholarship Fund, c/o Doris Campbell, 3872 C.R. 450, Thorndale, TX 76577.
