Funeral services for Earl Dewayne Hendrix of Campbell were held yesterday at Pemberton Funeral Chapel. Rev. David Hougham officiated at the service and intermenty followed at Brigham Cemetery in Campbell. Hendrix died Dec. 5 at Lake Point Medical Center in Rowlett. Pallbearers were Paul Vose, Ben Herman, John Adams, Steve Gossett, Ben Herman Sr. and Robert Yates. Serving as honorary pallbearers were F.H. McDowell, L.C. Threlkeld, Dale Yeager, Joe Fred Cox and the Class of 1948.
Hendrix was born Oct. 23, 1929, in Delta County, the son of Charles and Ora Smith Hendrix. On Feb. 28, 1979, he married Sharon Phipps in Commerce. He graduated from Commerce High School in 1948 and attended East Texas State University for two years. He had moved from Commerce to Campbell in 1980. Hendrix was a former employee of Mr. Minit, former owner and operator of Circle H Chevron station and was currently employed and a part-time retiree at Tex's T, all in Commerce. He was co-owner of H&R Industries in Campbell, which produced road signs in Hunt County and produced the mapping for county maps in 1981 and 1982. Hendrix was an honorary member of FFA for three years.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon Hendrix of Campbell; son, Gary Hendrix and wife, Mary, of Fairlie; son, Charles Boggs and wife, Marianne, of Jacksonville; daughter, Linda Hendrix Nelson and husband, John, of Grand Prairie; daughter, Sandi Grubbs and husband, Mike, of Commerce; brother, Jerry B. Hendrix and wife, Kay, of San Antonio; sister, Carolyn Norton of San Antonio; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and two great-grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.
Elsie Godfrey, 83
Funeral services for Elsie Godfrey of Sulphur Springs will be held today at 1:30 p.m. At Murray-Orwosky Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Cletus Speed and Rev. Larry Baxley officiating. Burial will follow at North Hopkins Cemetery with Danny Godfrey, Gary Godfrey, William Godfrey, Jason McKaskle, Mike Gibby, Harrel Hettich and Sherman Crawford serving as pallbearers. Godfrey passed away Nov. 29 at Woodhaven Nursing Home.
Godfrey was born Jan. 21, 1918, in the Emblem Community, the daughter of Claude and Ollie McGee Godfrey. She was a homemaker and a member of the North Hopkins Baptist Church.
Survivors include three nieces and four nephews. She was preceded in death by five brothers, Arlie Godfrey, Orby Godfrey, Nelsie Godfrey, Young Hugh Godfrey and Everette Godfrey and one sister, Gladys M. Godfrey.
Danny LaDaine Kelley II, 33
Funeral services were held for Danny LaDaine Kelly II of Cumby Friday, Nov. 30 at 3 p.m. Rev. Tony McCoy officiated at the service held at First Baptist Church of Commerce, with the intermenty following at Rosemound Cemetery. Services were arranged by Pemberton Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers were: Scott Moore, Roger Massey, Ricky Stewart, Brian Sims, Jerry Stewart and James Busby. Honorary pallbearers were: Roger Kizer, Jeff Cunningham and Buddy Farrell.
Born in Klondike March 27, 1968, Kelley graduated from Commerce High School in 1986. His parents were Danny LaDaine Kelley, now deceased, and Jill Harrison Cooper. On June 19, 1995, he married Nona Kay Busby. Kelley was a former employee of Johnny Dobson Trucking Company and was most recently employed at Holmes Trucking Company.
Survivors include his wife, Nona Kay Kelley of Cumby; mother, Jill H. Cooper of Mountain Air, N.M.; son, Joshua Herring of Cumby; daughters, Heather Herring and Courtney Kelley, both of Cumby; grandparents, Don and Phyllis Harrison of Mountain Air, N.M.; grandmother, Virginia Kelley of Commerce; brothers, Donald Kelley and Patrick Kelley, both of Commerce; sister, Melinda Frazier of Commerce; in-law, Donald Busby of Campbell; mother and father-in-law, Martha and John Busby of Campbell. He was preceded in death by his father in 1991, stepson, Russell Skeen in 1991 and grandfather, Cecil Kelley.
Martha Kolpa, 91
Martha Kolpa of Titusville, Fla., died Nov. 23 in a Titusville nursing home.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 26 at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of the North Brevard Funeral Home in Titusville.
Born May 8, 1910, in New York, N.Y., she was the daughter of Robert Edge and Magdalena Weichel. On Oct. 12, 1935 she married Edward Kolpa.
Surviving are brother, Robert P. Edge, of Connecticutt; daughter, Mary Morris, of Commerce; grandchildren, Kathleen DeCapita of Nassau, N.Y., Renee Morris of Commerce, Donald Morris of Greenville, and Sharon Spillers of Cumby. Also surviving are six great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one great-grandson.
Joyce Martin, 69
Funeral service for Joyce Martin of Ridgeway Community were held Friday at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel in Sulphur Springs with David Gibson officiating. Interment followed at Ridgeway Cemetery with Floyd Hutcherson, Brandon Daugherty, James Milam, Ralph Hutcherson, Phil Sudderth and Dennis Minton serving as pallbearers. Martin passed away Nov. 28 at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.
Martin was born June 29, 1932, in Levelland, Texas, the daughter of Cecil and Vivian Messick Caviness. She married George Harold Martin on Aug. 25, 1977, in Greenville; he survives. Martin was a registered nurse at Sulphur Springs Nursing Home. She had obtained a bachelor's degree from East Texas State University. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Commerce, the National Nurses Association and the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion, Unit #17 in Greenville.
Survivors include her husband, George Harold Martin; four daughters, Merita Sparks of Sulphur Springs, Brenda Shipwash of Sherman, Toni Hutcherson of Fairlie and Ann Sudderth of Commerce; grandchildren, Michael Morgan, Melanie Sudderth, James Milam, Shelley Sudderth, Brandon Daugherty, Floyd Hutcherson, Stephanie Sudderth and Amy Ardis; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, Paul Martin in 1997, and one brother, Billy Caviness.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and the American Heart Association.
Fayne E. Bass, 61
Fayne E. Bass, who dedicated his life to serving the Lord, passed away on Sunday, Nov. 25 at his home in Greenville. He was surrounded by many loved ones. Funeral services were held yesterday at the Mesquite Church of Christ in Mesquite, with David Gibson officiating. Several other close friends participated as well. Burial followed at Grove Hill Cemetery in Dallas.
Bass was born Aug. 23, 1940, in Edgewood, Texas, the son of John and Earlene Bass. He married Anne Curry on Dec. 22, 1956, in Rockwall. Bass entered the Sunset School of Preaching in 1962. After two years of Biblical study he went into ministry full-time, faithfully preaching and teaching the Word of God statewide and internationally. He was a member of the Commerce Church of Christ and was involved in Outreach/Prison Ministry with the Walnut Street Church of Christ in Texarkana and with the Colquitt Road Church of Christ in Terrell.
Survivors include his wife, Anne, of nearly 45 years; one son, Kevin Bass of Quinlan; four daughters, Dori Bass Stutsman of Rockwall, Kim Wilcox of Rockwall, Karen Bass of Garland and Kelly Barstow of Greenville; three sons-in-law, Roberts Stutsman and Bret Wilcox, both of Rockwall, and David Barstow of Greenville; his mother, Earlene McCarty of Dallas; brother, Jay Bass of Gun Barrell City; two sisters, Reba Blaylock of Dallas and Brenda Nix of Kemp; six grandchildren, Cory and Jeremy Fain, Kyle Thompson, Jessica Bass, and Lauren and Lindsay Barstow; as well as many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a host of devoted friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Fayne Jr., and his father.

Martha Oney Miller, 90
Martha Oney miller of Burleson, formerly of Commerce, died Nov. 25 at Huguley memorial Hospital in Fort Worth. Graveside services were held yesterday at Rosemound Cemetery with Rev. Laurie Feille officiating. Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Miller was a retired teacher who taught for 32 years at Pritchett, Goldwaith and Lone Oak Independent School Districts. She was born in Commerce Jan. 6, 1911, the daughter of W.R. and Georgia Mae Henderson Harrison. She was a member of First Christian Church of Commerce.
Survivors include nephews, W.H. Sheppeard of Fort Worth and W.E. Harrison of California; niece, Ginger Foote of California; brother, James R. Harrison of Oceanside, Calif.; and numerous other nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband, W.E. Oney and second husband, Paul Miller.
Don Wilson, 72
Funeral services for Don Wilson of Yantis were held yesterday at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Chapel in Sulphur Springs, with Rev. Glenn Beville and Rev. Kenneth Harwood officiating. Military graveside services followed at Long Cemetery in Cumby with Raymond Pierce, Billy Scroggins, Matt Petty, Dusty Davis, Shane Russom and Justin Glenn serving as pallbearers. The Yantis Volunteer Fire Department served as honorary pallbearers. Wilson passed away Nov. 26 at East Texas Medical Center in Tyler.
Wilson was born Nov. 10, 1929, in Wylie, Texas, the son of Johnny William and Elner Alice Wood Wilson. He was a retired truck driver for Safeway where he worked for 23 years. A member of the Baptist Church, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
Survivors include his wife, Ruth Massey of Yantis and her children, Judy Causey of Yantis, Mary Gammill of Yantis and Larry Don Massey of Sulphur Springs; one sister, Doris Keadle of Cumby; one nephew, Ronnie Wilson of Yantis; three nieces, Ronda Strickland of Princeton, Jayne Skinner of Princeton and Donna Keadle Horton of Cumby; grandchildren, Dusty Davis, Shane Russom, Chelby Gaddy, Vistoria Massey and Cristie Massey; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by first wife, Margaret Wilson, in 1995, and one brother, Ronie L. Wilson.
Larry R. Ramer, 53
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 21, for Larry R. Ramer of Arlington. Ramer died Nov. 14 at his home and was remembered by family and friends at Jones Memorial Chapel with Rev. Terry Bryan officiating at the service arranged by Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home. Interment followed at Rosemound Cemetery.
Retired from LTV Company, Ramer was born in Commerce Dec. 22, 1947, the son of Paul F. And Alene Evans Ramer.
Survivors include his mother and his sister, Anita Ray Sprayberry of Dallas.
J. O. 'Bud' Rushing, 80
J. O. Bud Rushing of College Station died at Bryton Inn Nursing Home on Nov. 18. Funeral services were held Wednesday at First United Methodist Church of Commerce with Dr. Mike House officiating at the service arranged by Pemberton Funeral Home. Interment followed at Shiloh Cemetery in Klondike. Pallbearers were Harley Davis, Richard Hill, Ron Stewart, Jake Haddock, Clifton Haddock and Norman Messick.
Rushing was born in Delta County, Sept. 7, 1921, the son of William Ott and Tommie Ruth Armor Rushing. He married Melba Robertson in Commerce on June 27, 1943. A former resident of Delta County, Rushing had only recently moved to College Station. He had graduated from Cooper High School in 1940 and was a veteran in the U.S. Army Air Corp and served during World War II.
Rushing received his B.A. Degree in agriculture from East Texas State Teachers College and his master's from Texas A&I in Kingsville. He taught agriculture at Smyer ISD for six years and also at Tuloso-Midway ISD in Corpus Christie for 23 years. He retired in 1980. He was a former member of the First United Methodist Church and Dough Rawlins Sunday School Class in Commerce and a current member of the Christ United Methodist Church in College Station. He was a lifetime member of the Future Farmers of America.
Survivors include his wife, Melba Rushing of College Station; son, Ronald Rushing of College Station; daughters, Bettye Villanueva of Austin and Rebecca Page of Dickinson; sisters, Chrystelle Ray of Klondike, Lena Endsley of McKinney and Ruby Alexander of Santa Fe, N.M.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Nadine Kinsey, 85
A former Commerce resident, Nadine Kinsey, will be remembered by friends and family at a funeral service today at 2 p.m. at Jones Memorial Chapel. Rev. Mike House will officiated at the service arranged by Jones-Walker & Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rosemound Cemetery.
Kinsey, who lived in Bartlesville, Okla., was a caregiver and housewife. She was born Oct. 5, 1916, in Hunt County, the daughter of Arthur and Mollie Pratt Stringer. On July 3, 1976, she married Cecil Kinsey, who preceded her in death on Aug. 15, 1998.
Survivors include daughter, Lana Salyer of Bartlesville, Okla.; two step-daughters, Clara Louise Love and Elizabeth A. Stevens; three grandchildren, Karen Sims of Okmulgee, Okla., Deborah Baker of Bartlesville, Okla., and Kevin Hedgpeth of Laredo, Texas; and brother, Wes Stringer of Commerce. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Robert Edwin "Bob" Rawls, 71
Robert Edwin "Bob" Rawls of Jasper, Texas, died Nov. 16 at his home in Jasper. A funeral was held yesterday at First United Methodist Church in Jasper. Masonic graveside services followed at Jasper City Cemetery. Stringer & Griffin Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Rawls was a native of Jasper, a former resident of the Dallas area and lived in Jasper the past 30 years. He was a member of Dewitt Clinton Masonic Lodge #29 AF & AM and Jasper Order of Eastern Starr. He was retired from Texas Instruments in Richardson, Texas. Rawls was a U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include special life-long friend, Jeannette Strahan; son, Robert Keith Rawls of Lufkin; daughter, Donna Revel Rawls Luce of Jasper; five grandchildren, Payton Rawls, Draven Rawls, Cristy Wilhite, Misty Wazlanski and Jessica Luce; two great-grandchildren, Nadia Wazlanski and Ceona Wazlanski.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Children's Burn Hospital of Galveston or the First United Methodist Church.
Sue Goldston Lebermann Bovay, 91
A memorial service was held for Sue Goldston Lebermann Bovay, formerly of Commerce, on Nov. 9 at the Central Christian Church in Austin in tribute to her many years with the church. She died Nov. 5 in Houston. She and husband, Lowell H. Lebermann, established the hospital in Commerce. Dr. Lebermann was called to active duty during World War II and during that time Sue ran the hospital. She then continued to run the hospital after her husband's untimely death in 1960, and until the hospital was sold in 1961.
Born Nov. 13, 1910, in Milford, Sue was the daughter of John Maxie Goldston, Jr., and FLora Nimmo Goldston. She attended Texas Presbyterian College and the University of Texas at Austin, graduating in 1931 with a bachelor of arts in English. She then taught in the Athens public schools for five years. In 1935, she married Lowell H. Lebermann upon his graduation from medical school in Dallas. She later married Harry E. Bovay, Jr., and moved to Houston where she continued her work as a philanthropist.
Survivors include her husband, Harry E. Bovay, Jr.; her son, Lowell H. Lebermann, Jr.; and her granddaughter, Virginai Drake Lebermann Cocke and her husband, Robinson Cocke, of Austin; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Charles "Chuck" Rigdon, 48
Charles "Chuck" Rigdon of Commerce died at his residence Tuesday. There was a memorial service at Friday at Vansickle Baptist Church.
He was born Jan. 27, 1953, to Benjamin Franklin Rigdon and Edith Atheline in Noblesville,
Ind. After serving in the military, he worked as a carpenter until his illness prevented him from working.
Surviving are his spouse, Cissy Cox; two sons, William Weldon and Nicolas Nathaniel Rigdon; brothers, Mark Anthony Rigdon of Noblesville, Ind., and Steven Skylar of Garland; and a sister, Tammy Rose Rigdon of Noblesville, Ind. A brother, Phillip Earl Rigdon, preceded him in death.
