Funeral services for Archie T. Glossup of Sulphur Springs were held Jan. 17 at the Wesley United Methodist Church with Rev. Wally Williams and Rev. Howard Marsh officiating. Burial followed at the Ridgeway Cemetery with Jonathan Sampson, Joshua Sampson, Spencer Hinkle, David Robinson, Benny Vice, Wayne Bledsoe, James Parker and Gary Doss serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Glossup, Doyle Glossup, Brian Peacock, Joe Don Peacock, Harral Peacock and Dr. Mark Miller. Military graveside services were conducted by the Hopkins County Military Coalition. Services were arranged by Tapp Funeral Home. Glossup died Jan 15 at the Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
Glossup was born in the Emblem Community of Hopkins County on March 22, 1912, the son of Grover Cleve and Rose Anderson Glossup. He married Maurine M. Young on Jan. 22, 1949, in Cumby, Texas. Glossup was a retired dairy farmer and taught school for two years. He entered the U.S. Army during World War II in 1942 at Camp Maxey, Galveston, Texas, served with the 503rd Coast Artillery Anti-Aircraft Division Battery K, Searchlight Battery in the Aleutians, reassigned in 1944 to TRTC in Fort Rucker, Ala., then was discharged on Nov. 10, 1945, in Fort Sill, Okla. He was a 50-year member of the Cumby Masonic Lodge AF&AM #180 and was a charter member of the Wesley United Methodist Church.
Glossup is survived by his wife of 52 years, Maurine Glossup; daughter, Mary Beth Sampson and her husband, Michael, of Commerce; brother, Earl "Bub" Glossup and his wife, Opal, of Amarillo; sister, Wilma Stiff of Sulphur Springs; grandson, Jonathan M. Sampson of Fort Worth and Joshua T. Sampson of Commerce; nephews Jerry Glossup and wife, Shirley, and Doyle Glossup and wife, Hazel, all of Sulphur Springs; nieces, Karen Reading of Silver City, N.M., and Laveta Maxey and husband, Doug, of Amarillo. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Lester Glossup in January 2001.

Connie Worley, 84
Connie Minerva Worley of Commerce died Jan. 16 at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce. Graveside services were at Shiloh Cemetery in Klondike yesterday with Carlton Ray Martin officiating. Pemberton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
The daughter of Willis L. Stone and Martha Mae Stone, she was born May 28, 1917, in Delta County. On Sept. 5, 1936, she was married to L.B. "Red" Worley in Cooper. She was a longtime resident of Hunt and Delta Counties and attended school in Delta County.
Worley was a former seamstress at the Hagger Company and other clothing manufacturing companies in Hunt and Dallas County. She was a Protestant by faith and was a former member of the Fairlie Woman's Club.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Philip and Nancy Worley of Paris; a brother, Philip Stone of Klondike; four sisters, Minnie Martin of Fort Worth, Mildred Bruce of Campbell, Marzee White of Wolfe City and Ivanell Bratcher of Irving; three grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on March 14, 1981; two brothers and three sisters.
Burlin Paul Adams, 86
Burlin Paul Adams of Commerce passed away Saturday, Jan. 5 at Oak Manor Nursing Home in Commerce. Funeral services were held yesterday at the Delta Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Lyndol Adams officiated and intermenty followed in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Ben Franklin.
Adams was born April 25, 1915, in Cooper, the son of Mr. And Mrs. Hobart D. Adams. He was formerly a farmer and rancher. On Jan. 17, 1964, he married the former Billie Moody.
Survivors include his wife, Billie Adams of Commerce; sons, Larry S. Adams of Idabel, Okla., and Hal Adams of Terrell; daughters, Helen Anthony of Seagoville and Wanda Jean Kepley of Arlington; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Carl Otis Buster, 86
Funeral services for Carl Otis Buster of Commerce will be held today at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Commerce. Rev. Johnnie Henderson will officiate at the service arranged by Pemberton Funeral Home. Interment will follow with a graveside service at 4 p.m. in East Memorial Garden Cemetery in Texarkana, Ark. Buster died at home Jan. 5. Pallbearers will be his grandsons.
Buster was born in Ashdown, Ark., Jan. 23, 1915. On July 11, 1943, he married Rubye Shackelford in Ogden, Ark. He moved to Commerce in 1958 from Greenville. He had graduated from Ashdown High School in Ashdown, Ark. Buster was a veteran in the Army Air Corps and served as Staff Sergeant during World War II in the European Theatre. He was a former employee of Pickens Dodge in Greenville and parts manager at Dodson Ford in Commerce. He also owned and operated Dairy Mart Drive-in Restaurant and Buster's Cafe in Commerce. After retirement, he was employed at the First Baptist Church in Commerce, where he was a member.
Survivors are his wife, Rubye Buster of Commerce; son, Danny Buster and his wife, Carolyn, of McKinney; daughters, Karla Winn of Marshall, Debbie Buster of Garrison and Sarah Odom and her husband, Patrick, of McKinney; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Commerce's Building Fund.
Herman Bennett III, 57
Herman H. "Sonny" Bennett III of Campbell died Saturday, Jan. 5 in the Veterans Affairs Hospital in Dallas. Funeral services were yesterday at First Baptist Church of Commerce with Rev. Johnny Henderson officiating. Burial followed in Rosemound Cemetery. Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home in Commerce was in charge of arrangements.
Bennett was born Jan. 24, 1944, in Commerce, the son of Dotte and Herman Bennett Jr. He married Elizabeth Matkins on Feb. 27, 1965, in Cooper.
Bennett was the owner and operator of Deluxe Cleaners since 1976. He also worked at Rockwell International from 1971 to 1976. He was a U.S. Navy veteran; having served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1971. He was an Eagle Scout in 1958 and later became scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 23 in Commerce. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Commerce. Bennett was a member of the Scottish Rite of Dallas-Valley of Dallas; Masonic Lodge No. 439 of Commerce; Rite-Demolay No. 20 of Greenville; Hella Temple Shrine Lodge of Dallas; American Legion Post No. 1 of Commerce, where he also served as commander.
Surviving are his wife, Elizabeth Bennett of Campbell; daughters and sons-in-law, Amanda and West Ballard of Rockwall, Brandi and Stephen Tice of Commerce; grandson, Bradley Tice of Commerce; parents of Commerce; sister and brother-in-law, Dianne and Kin Lowe of Commerce; brother and sister-in-law, Grant and Dawn Bennett of Boston; two nephews and two nieces.

Earl Evans, 94
Funeral services for Earl Evans of Grand Prairie are tomorrow at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Grand Prairie. Rev. Greg Martin will officiate at the services arranged by Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. In Rosemound Cemetery of Commerce. His grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Evans died Jan. 7 at Arlington Memorial Hospital.
A man who "loved his family more than life itself," was born in Hunt County, Sept. 4, 1907, the son of Murray and Essie Z. Giddins Evans. On Jan. 29, 1932, he married Opal Riley in Commerce. She died in 1995. Evans was a retired tooling technician for LTV Aerospace and a member of First Baptist Church of Grand Prairie.
Survivors include his son, William Murray Evans and wife, Jonibeth, of Arlington; son, Roger Lane Evans and wife, Barbara, of Columbia, S.C.; daughter, Norma Jan Barnes of Birmingham, Ala.; grandchildren, Juli Carr, Jody Barnes, Joel Barnes, Dan Evans, Alan Evans, Andy Evans and Jeff Evans; five great-grandchildren; twin brother, Ernest Evans of Dallas, brother, Carl Evans of California and sister, Allie Ramer of Fort Worth. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Opal Riley Evans; two brothers and one sister.
Thelma Jean Bowman, 53
Graveside services for Thelma Jean Bowman of Commerce are today at 2 p.m. at Rosemound Cemetery. Rev. Charles Strickland will officiate at the services arranged by Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home. Bowman died Jan. 4 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
Bowman was born April 23, 1948, in Commerce, the daughter of Marshall and Thelma Lorene Lytle Newman. A widow, she was married to Bill Bowman. She worked as an LVN at Park Haven Nursing Center and was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
Survivors include her son, Bobby Richardson of Commerce; daughter, Brenda Richardson of Commerce; granddaughter, Rebecca Dawn Richardson of Commerce; two brothers, Jacky Newman of Florida and Ricky Newman of Commerce; and mother, Thelma Lorene Newman.
Phyllis Elaine Bradshaw, 60
Funeral services for Phyllis Elaine Bradshaw of Commerce are tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Cooper-Sorrells Chapel in Honey Grove, under the direction of Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home. Rev. Rydell Martin will officiate, with burial in Oakwood Cemetery in Honey Grove. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Bradshaw died Jan. 4 at her home. Visitation is today from 2-4 p.m. at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Honey Grove.
Bradshaw, an assembler for a plumbing supply company, had lived in Commerce since 1977. She was born July 11, 1941, in Honey Grove, the daughter of A.P. and Stella Webb Williams.
Survivors include her daughter, Kay Martin of Bailey, Texas; two sons, Robert Lee Bradshaw and Jerry Lynn Bradshaw, both of Commerce; one grandchild; one brother, James Williams of Burleson; two sisters, Wanda Helm of Lake Worth and Dean Strickland of Denison.
Charles Kenneth "C.K." Findley, 80
Funeral services for Charles Kenneth "C.K." Findley of Bairoil, Wyo., formerly of Commerce, were held Dec. 28, 2001, at Sunrise Baptist Church in Casper, Wyo. Findley died Dec. 21, 2001, at Wyoming Medical Center after a long illness.
Findley was born April 30, 1921, in Gainesville, Texas, the son of Asa Miller and Virgie Womack Findley. On March 21, 1941, he married Gay Nell Turner, a native of Commerce. From 1944-46, Findley served as a corporal in World War II as an automatic rifleman in the Second Division of the Marine Corps. He was issued the Honorable Service Lapel Button. For 36 years he worked in the electrical field, retiring in 1985 from Amoco as electrical supervisor. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, canning and holding big fish frys for lots of friends and family.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mary Land of Casper, Wyo., and Teresa Bart Fuhriman of Lander, Wyo.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Dalke of Rowlett, Texas; a brother, Bob Findley of Kirkland, Wash.; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, Ronald Charles Findley; and six siblings, Dorothy Fischl, Paul Findley, Patricia Thomas, Belva Rhoden, Martha Bullard and Douglas Findley.
Findley was cremated and burial will follow at a later date, as well as memorial services for family and friends at Lake Tawakoni where C.K. and Gay Nell resided in the summers since retirement.
Gladine Coffey, 91
Funeral services for Gladine Coffey of Fort Worth will be held today at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Commerce. Dr. C.E. Colton and Rev. Johnnie Henderson will officiate, with burial following the service in City Cemetery of Sulphur Springs. She died Jan. 3 at Trinity Terrace Nursing Home in Fort Worth.
Coffey was born in Hopkins County, Texas, March 12, 1910, the daughter of Robert Edward Loretta Jordan Blackwell. She married Andrew Lewis Coffey on Feb. 5, 1935 in Dallas, Texas. She was a long-time resident of Commerce and had moved to Fort Worth to be near relatives. Coffey graduated from Commerce High School and received her master's degree from East Texas Teachers College in Commerce, then worked on her master's degree at the University of Arkansas.
Coffey received her master's in education from the University of Houston and taught in Freeport for the Brazosport Independent School District for 30 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Commerce and also taught Sunday School for 30 years. She was extremely knowledgeable of the Bible. Coffey was a member of the Delphian Club, Sigma Tau Delta, Delta Kappa Gamma, American Association of University Women, the Poe Study Club in Dallas and was a charter member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association and life-member of the Barzoria Study Club.
Survivors include her daughter, Reta Coffey Lewis and her husband, Tom, of Fort Worth; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one son, Robert Coffey, in 1993. Honorary pallbearers will be the Adult I Sunday School Class of the First Baptist Church.
Bill Powell, 58
Funeral services for Bill Powell of Cumby were held Jan. 3 at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dan Newman officiating. Military graveside services followed at Cumby Cemetery with Arlie Wayne Bryant, Maurice Akin, Bryan Mathis, John Powell, Shane Powell and Ricky Underwood serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Christopher Bennett, Jeremy Bennett, Kyle Mathis, Jerry Sanderson and Corey Sanderson. Powell passed away Jan. 1 at Christus St. Joseph's Hospital in Paris.
Powell was born Nov. 25, 1943, in Greenville, the son of Otis Pierce "Happy" and Henrietta Little Powell. He married La Nora Mozell Sanderson in Mesquite on March 17, 1972. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Cumby. Powell served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War.
Survivors include his wife, La Nora Powell of Cumby; and sister, Kathryn Janette Powell of Cumby. He was preceded in death by one brother, Tommy Powell in 1982.

Jimmie Houston Rhodes, 81
Jimmie Houston Rhodes of Ladonia passed away Thursday, Dec. 27, 2001, at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce. Funeral services were held Dec. 29 at the Church of Christ of Ladonia. Burial was in the Center Point Cemetery under the direction of the Delta Funeral Home.
Rhodes was born Dec. 3, 1920, in Pecan Gap, the son of Houston and Fannie Armstrong Rhodes. On Dec. 3, 1949, he married Christine Stailey. Rhodes was a retired mechanic. A member of the First Baptist Church of Pecan Gap, he had lived in the Pecan Gap, Ladonia are all of his life.
Rhodes is survived by his wife, Christine Rhodes of Ladonia; son, Jimmie Rhodes of Ladonia; two sisters, Jean Mack and Rama Duke, both of Arlington; and four grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jimmie Rhodes, Josh Rhodes, Wayne Mack, Rickey Siebenhausen, Tommy Stailey and Randy Stailey.
