Rubye Swaney

LUBBOCK - Graveside services for Rubye L. Swaney, 86, of Lubbock are at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Memoryland Memorial Park in Greenville with Rev. Jim Drake officiating. She died Wednesday at Lutheran Home of West Texas in Lubbock.

Mrs. Swaney was born in Commerce and had been a Lubbock resident since 1982, moving there from Canton. She had also resided in Dallas and was a longtime resident of Greenville. She was a sales clerk for Sears in Greenville and taught school for a period of time.

She attended East Texas State University. Mrs. Swaney was a member of Lubbock's Bacon Heights Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

She married Melvin Wells on Dec. 21, 1930; he preceded her in death on May 26, 1957. She married John Swaney on Jan. 28, 1961; he preceded her in death on Oct. 1, 1973.

Surviving are a sister, Frances L. Drake of Wolfforth and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Mattie Floyd.

Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.

Franklin-Bartley Funeral Home of Lubbock is in charge of arrangements in Lubbock. Peters Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Troy Dry

WOLFE CITY -James Troy Dry, 85, of Scoggins died Tuesday at his home after a lengthy illness. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home in Wolfe City with Rev. Bill Pryor of Mesquite officiating. Burial is in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City.

He was born in Fairlie, Hunt County, on June 20, 1912 to Johnny T. and Jessie Brown Dry. He married Verda Pauline Harville on Dec. 30, 1932 in Mansville, Okla.; she died in 1985. He later married Ola Emily Cameron of Mt. Vernon. Mr. Dry was a security officer for a private company and was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Surviving are his wife of Scoggins; two sons, Eugene Dry and Rodney Joe Dry, both of Dallas; three daughters, Loretta Lucas of Cedar Creek, Barbara Carpenter of Waco and Carol Clements of Denison; two brothers, Bennie Dry of Dallas and Jack Dry of Ardmore, Okla.; five sisters, Eula Mae Scott and Ann Marie Jackson, both of Ardmore, Okla., Loraine Phillips of Holiday, Kathleen Polland of Cedar Hill and Melba Price of Grapevine; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

A son, Roy Dry, preceded him in death in 1987.

Great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Elbert Isham

CADDO MILLS -Elbert Leroy Isham, 77, of Dallas died Wednesday in Dallas. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Rentfrow Funeral Home Chapel with Gordon Grammer officiating. Burial is in VanSickle Cemetery.

Mr. Isham was born Dec. 15, 1919, In Caddo Mills; the son of Samuel Ray and Nannie Amanda Ussery Isham. He married Henrietta Cathey on March 2, 1939, in Caddo Mills. He was a mechanic.

Surviving are his wife of Dallas; three sons, Samuel Isham of San Antonio, Bobby Isham of Dallas and Jimmy Isham of El Paso; two daughters, Deborah McKeever of Childress and Mary Ann Prine of Dallas; two brothers, Albert Isham of Campbell and Jessie Isham of Floyd; three sisters, Louisa Baker of Floyd, Pearl Lessa of San Francisco, Calif. and Ellen Deaton of Burkburnett; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Isham, and a son, Daniel Isham.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Wanda Mongtomery

LADONIA -Wanda Margaret Montgomery of Ladonia died Tuesday at her home. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church with Bob Posey of Bonham officiating. Burial is in the Ladonia Cemetery.

She was born in Fannin County on Jan. 25, 1924, daughter of Willie Andrew Jackson Owens and Ada Lee McKinney Owens. She and Norman Lee Montgomery were married May 30, 1942. Mrs. Montgomery had worked for East Texas State University of Commerce.

Survivors include her husband of Ladonia; a daughter, Sue Cook of Vernon; two brothers, Leroy Owens of North Carolina and Dwight Owens of Fort Worth; a sister, Doris Skinner of Honey Grove; two grandchildren, Jana Villemain of San Antonio and Glen Cook of Lubbock and one great-grandson, Ean Villemain.

Visitation is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Delta Funeral Home of Ladonia.

Mary Clark

COOPER - Mary Helen Clark, 77, of Pecan Gap died Tuesday at Presbyterian Hospital in Commerce. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Pecan Gap with Cary Kinnaird and Joel Roberson officiating. Burial will be in the Pecan Gap Cemetery.

Mrs. Clark was born in Delta County on May 25, 1920, daughter of John Willis Sandlin and Florence Jane Cummings Sandlin. She married David Christie; he preceded her in death. She later married Jim Clark and he preceded her in death.

Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, John Sandlin Christie, Dan D. Christie, Shug Christie and Susan Christie, all of Prosper; three brothers, James Sandlin of Cooper, Jack Sandlin of Port Arthur and Bill Sandlin of Lake Jackson; one sister; June Roderick of Pecan Gap; two granddaughters, Allison Sandlin Christie of Prosper and Effie Blase of Dallas and a great-granddaughter, Dylan Blase of Dallas.

Preceding her in death were four sisters, Juanita Brooks, Frankie Clark, Martha Arnold and Katherine Sandlin, infant, and a brother, Bud Sandlin.

Visitation is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at Delta Funeral Home in Cooper.

Leo Ebert

QUINLAN - Leo Ebert, 64, of Quinlan died Tuesday at Columbia Medical Center in Terrell. Services will be private.

Son of Earnest Earl and Ada Mae Moefield Ebert, he was born March 15, 1933 in Champaign, Ill. He and his wife, Mary, were married in 1953. Mr. Ebert served in the U.S. Army. He worked for the Department of Transportation with the State of Illinois.

Surviving are his wife; three sons, Newton Lee Ebert of Wills Point, Raymond C. Ebert of Urbana, Ill. and Cary Ebert of Urbana, Ill.; two daughters, Cherie Peak of Fisher, Ill. and Lita Scmitt of Champaign, Ill.; a brother, Ernest Earl Ebert of Champaign, Ill.; 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

Quinlan LyBrand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Linda Mae Hart

Linda Mae Hart, 56, of DeSoto, 11 a.m. today at First United Methodist Church in DeSoto. Burial in Little Bethel Memorial Park in Duncanville.

Nellie Gordon Renfro, 88, of Tioga, 2 p.m. today at United Methodist Church in Tioga. Burial in Tioga Cemetery. Huff/Slay Funeral Home of Tioga in charge.

James V. Shaw of Greenville, memorial service at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel at 5 p.m. Friday.

Leroy Smith, 77, of West Tawakoni, 10 a.m. today at Quinlan LyBrand Funeral Home Chapel. Burial in Providence Cemetery in Paris.

Willie Mae Stiggers of Commerce, 1 p.m. today at Bethel Church of God in Christ. Burial in Rosemound Cemetery. Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home of Greenville in charge.

Ray Felty

Ray E. Felty of Richardson died Tuesday at Columbia Medical Center in Plano. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Lyons, Hubert Lytle and Newton Buckley officiating. Burial is in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City.

Son of George Felty and Mattie Ethel Puryear Felty, he was born in Hunt County on July 22, 1914. He married Katharyne McCarroll in Garland on Dec. 21, 1935.

Mr. Felty was a retired school teacher and principal of Wallace Elementary School in Richardson and Goodwin Junior High in Paducah. He was a member of First Christian Church in Paducah. He was a former member of the Lions Club, TSTA and Texas Retired Teachers Association.

Surviving are his wife of Richardson; two daughters, Dorotha Sandefur of Lubbock and Berny Ann Long of Burkburnett; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Pallbearers will be Tommy Castle, Larry Lansford, Fred McWhorter, Dan Bartosh Jr., Bill Thompson and Newton Buckley.

Memorials may be made to Mount Carmel Cemetery Association of Wolfe City.

Lena Harris

Lena Mae Hendrix Moton Harris of Center Point Community died Tuesday in a Dallas hospital. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Sunday at Center Point Christian Church with Rev. Wilbert Fountain officiating. Burial is in Center Point Cemetery.

She was born in the Dixon Community on Sept. 7, 1915, to Henry and Cora Christian Hendrix. She married Jim Harris in Greenville on Nov. 28. 1955. Mrs. Harris was a home health care worker. She was a member of Center Point Christian Church.

Surviving are a daughter, Gloria Jean Moton Hollingsworth of Vallejo, Calif.; two sisters, Junie Bell Broomfield and Edwina Terrell, both of Greenville; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Her husband, nine brothers and one sister preceded her in death.

Pallbearers will be Chester Lee, Walter Hendrix, Elvin McCurdy, Larry Hollingsworth, N.J. Daniels and LaBoyd Hendrix.

There will be no visitation at the church.

Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Clarence Hughes

CADDO MILLS - Clarence Hanchey Hughes, 76, of Caddo Mills died Wednesday in Dallas. Funeral services were Friday at the Church of Christ with Ray Hunter officiating. Burial was in the Caddo Mills I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

He was born in Hunt County on Dec. 14, 1920 to Clarence Elvin Hughes and Clemmie Woodall Hughes. He married Dorothy Harrington on Oct. 23, 1946 in Greenville. He served in the Army Air Borne during World War II. He was a retired stock clerk with E-Systems. Mr. Hughes was a member of the Church of Christ.

Surviving are his wife of Caddo Mills; a son, Stephen Hughes of Caddo Mills; three daughters, Patricia Aston and Kathy Carrell, both of Caddo Mills and Sherry Myre of Royse City; two brothers, Milton Hughes and J.W. Hughes, both of Caddo Mills; three sisters, Birdie Mae Pitts and Betty McCasland, both of Caddo Mills and Wanda McCasland of Rockwall and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Odessa Burkett

Pallbearers are Justin Johnson, Casey Johnson, Steven Angell, Mike Miles, Doyle Crawford and Jimmy Hughes.

Rentfrow Funeral Home of Caddo Mills was in charge of arrangements.

Lizzie Johnson

LEONARD - Funeral services for Mrs. Lizzie Johnson, 89, of Leonard, are at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Taylor Funeral Home Chapel in Leonard with Rev. Chris Cowen officiating. Burial is in the Leonard Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson died Friday in the Wilson N. Jones Regional Health System in Sherman.

She was born Oct. 2, 1908 in Merit, daughter of William Hanner and Jennie Wright Hanner. She married Preston Johnson on May 26, 1926 in Greenville. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the First Baptist Church in Leonard. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by daughters Mary Frances Harrington of Sherman and Lois Johnson of Leonard; sisters, Mary Seals of Denison and Bessie Martin of Farmersville; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren.

Her husband preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 1974.

Nephews will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation is from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Elma Masters

COMMERCE - Elma Thomas Masters, 84, of Garland, died Thursday at Senior Care at Lake Pointe. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Commerce with Dr. Carr Suter officiating. Burial is in Rosemound Cemetery.

She was born in Eldorado, Ark. on Dec. 26, 1912 to M.A. Thomas and Ora Gray Thomas. She and Walter Masters were married in Hugo, Okla. on Nov. 27, 1931. She was a housewife.

Survivors include a son, Frank Masters of St. Louis, Mo.; a daughter, Peggy Masters of Garland; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sisters Willia Mae Fooshee of Austin, Wanda Walker of Klondike, Blane Patterson of Commerce and Jean Wright of Moultrie, Ga. and a brother, Brodie Thomas of Commerce.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years .

Visitation is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home.

J.W. Nelson

SULPHUR SPRINGS - J.W. Nelson, 63, of Greenville, recently of Sulphur Springs, died Tuesday. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. at Mitchell Chapel, Church of God in Christ with Supt. Nelson Gatlin officiating. Burial is in Mel Haven.

He was born in Greenville on June 2, 1934 to Willie Nelson and Melvina Nelson. Mr. Nelson was a construction worker. He was a Baptist.

Surviving are his wife, Mabel Nelson; three sons, J.W. Nelson Jr. of Greenville, Alvin Nelson of Dallas and Victoy Nelson of Greenville; three daughters, Mary Ann Nelson, Linda Ann Nelson and Teresa Denise Nelson, all of Dallas; two brothers, Larry Nelson of Los Angeles, Calif. and Willie Ray Nelson of Greenville and four sisters, Minnie Lee Cullers of Los Angeles, Calif., and Margie Reed, Betty Rollison and Mary Nelson, all of Sulphur Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and three sisters.

Pallbearers are Alton Nelson, Tony Reed, Anthony Rollison, Edward Nelson, Michael Kelly and Donnell Kelly.

White Funeral Home of Sulphur Springs is in charge of arrangements.
