Winnie Spain
HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. " Winnie Ray Spain, 88, of Highland Heights, Ky. died Friday. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Pemberton Funeral Chapel with Terry Bryan officiating. Burial will be at Shiloh Cemetery in Klondike.
She was born on Dec. 21, 1912, in Delta County to Thomas Albert and Betty Brack Ray. She married John Lyman Spain. She was a former resident of Commerce and was Baptist by faith. She worked as a nurses aid and a retail clerk.
Mrs. Spain is survived by a son, Fred Watkins of Ky.; a daughter, Betty of Calif.; three brothers, T.A. Ray of Klondike, Horace Ray of Longbeach, Calif., and Lester Ray of Mesquite; two sisters, Mary Beth Beeson of Mesquite and Reba Trevillyon of Commerce; a number of grandchildren and great -grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. at Pemberton Funeral Home.

Ruth Harris
WILLS POINT " Ruth Bounds Harris, 82, died Thursday at her home in Houston. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Russell Memorial United Methodist Church in Wills Point. Burial will at Oak Hill Cemetery in Edgewood.
The eldest child of J. Edwin and Tessie Swann Fooshee, Mrs. Harris was born on March 23, 1919, in Jacobia. She completed her secondary education in Greenville. After receiving a Texas State 4-H scholarship, she attended Texas State College for Women, her mother's alma mater. She graduated from East Texas State University in Commerce with a bachelor of science degree in home economics.
On Jan. 20, 1940, she married L.G. Bounds of Edgewood. Two children, Carol and Helen were born of this marriage. In the early 1950s, she completed her master's degree in elementary education at the University of Houston. Her teaching career of more than 25 years included schools in Richmond, Jones Creel. Freeport and Cayuga, with her last work being in the Texas Department of Corrections Wundham School District teaching inmates in the Coffield Unit at Palestine. After retiring in the early 1970s, she joined her mother in operating the Fooshee Antique Shop in Edgewood.
Following the death of L.G. Bounds in October 1978, she married Wayne M. Harris of Wills Point on Oct. 10, 1981. They were members of the Russell Memorial United Methodist Church .
She is survived by her husband; daughters, Carol Reel and Helen Garrison; stepdaughter, Beth Smith; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Marie McIntyre.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today at Lybrand Funeral Home in Edgewood.
Pallbearers will be Billy Ellis, Bill Estes, Pete Goodwin, L.L. Howell, Robert Scott and Loren Creech. Honorary pallbearers include Jack M. Fite, Joseph W. "Wimpy" Freeman, Tom Sewell, Skeet Thornton, David Wingo and members of the Trinity Valley Amateur Radio Club.
Memorial donations may be sent to the Ruth Bounds Harris Memorial Fund, First United Methodist Church of WIlls Point or St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Houston.

Dewey Romine
FARMERSVILLE " Dewey Romine, 87, of Farmersville died Saturday in Garland. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hurst's Fielder-Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Farmersville with the Rev. Johnnie Jones officiating. Burial will be at the I.O.O.F Cemetery in Farmersville.
Mr. Romine was born on March 25, 1914, in Winnsboro to Ed and Zoney Banks Romine. He married Annie Jones Romine in 1934.
Mr. Romine was a candy maker and attended Grace Fellowship Assembly of God.
He is survived by his daugters, Vallie Patterson of Sachse, Jean Edgar of Garland, Sue Justice of Princeton and Faye Kent of Blue Ridge; sisters, Vallie Allen of Mesquite and Faye Sassman of Corpus Christie; 15 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

L.B. Martin
CADDO MILLS " L.B. Martin, 52, of Dallas, died Friday. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Rentfrow Funeral Home Chapel-Caddo Mills with Rev. James C. Nance officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.
Son of L.B. "Pepper" Martin and Myrtle Clair Martin, he was born in Dallas on Feb. 16, 1949. He served in Vietnam in the U.S. Army. Mr. Martin was a truck driver with Covent Transport Co. He was a Baptist and was a member of Masonic Lodge 82 and VFW Post 4477.
Survivors include his father of Caddo Mills; his stepmother Alice Martin of Caddo Mills; a son, Jason Martin of Forney; stepdaughter Krystal Scott of Forney; brothers Larry Martin and Richard Martin of Greenville and Gary Martin of Caddo Mills and a grandson, Nicholas Selman of Forney.
His mother preceded him in death in 1969.
Members of the Masonic Lodge 82 will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Queen Thomas
SUMPTER TOWNSHIP, MICH. " Queen Helen Roundtree Thomas, 77, died at her home Wednesday. Services are pending with Pawlus Funeral Home in Belleville, Mich.
Daughter of John P. and Elizabeth Roundtree, she was born Sep. 8, 1923 in River Rouge, Mich. She was married to Howard D. Thomas Sr. on May 28, 1955. Mrs. Thomas was a homemaker.
Surviving are her husband; two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard D. Jr. and Stacy Thomas of Sumpter Township, Mich. and Wesley and Maxine Thomas of Greenville and five grandchildren.

Eddy Archer
Eddy Gene Archer, 40, of Point, died Tuesday at Bentonville Hospital in Bentonville, Ark. A graveside service is set at 3 p.m. today at Brumfield Cemetery in Seiling, Okla. with Rev. Dale Fields officiating.
Born June 19, 1960 in Tulia, he was the son of Bobby Dean Archer and Wanda Janice Holloway Archer. Mr. Archer was an aircraft mechanic and was a member of A&P License. He was a Baptist.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law Stormy Archer and Jin Lee of Glenn Heights; his parents of Point; brother and sister-in-law Johnny Dean and Karla Archer and their children Erin and Taylor; grandparents Essie Holloway of Anson and W.M. Holloway of Abilene; a grandson, Trenton Lee and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Redinger Funeral Home of Seiling, Okla. is in charge of arrangements. Peters Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Jewell Speights
ROYSE CITY " Jewell Jeanette Houser Speights, 94, died Wednesday in Greenville. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Rest Haven Funeral Home-Royse City Chapel. Burial will be in Royse City Cemetery.
She was born June 18, 1906 in the community of Burrow in Hunt County to A.B. and Minnie Lou Myers Houser. She became a school teacher at 17 years of age, teaching at community schools until 1942. She then moved to Fort Worth where she taught fourth grade at George Clarke Elementary for 26 years, retiring in 1969 with 46 years of teaching in public schools. Mrs. Speights was a resident of Fort Worth for more than 50 years until 1998 when she moved back to the family farm where she was born.
Survivors are a nephew Max Holcomb and wife Lyllian and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
Her husband, R.N. "Bob" Speights preceded her in death in 1990.
Pallbearers will be nephews Jackie Houser and Larry Page; great-nephew Chris Holcomb; great nieces Kaylar Holcomb Page and Holly Holcomb Williams and great-great-nephew Justin Holcomb.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Myrtle Tanner
WOLFE CITY " Myrtle Irene Tanner, 90, of Wolfe City died Tuesday night at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas following a two-week illness. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Eldon Chester officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Daughter of Alonzo Tettleton and Lue Cook, she was born Feb. 3, 1911 in Floyd. She was married to George C. Tanner on Jan. 19, 1933 in Fannin County. Mrs. Tanner was a seamstress. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Wolfe City.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jackie and Carole Tanner of Wolfe City; a sister, Mrs. Alta Wasson of Greenville; grandson and wife Phil and Chanda Tanner of Wolfe City; two great-granddaughters, Brooke and Ali Tanner of Wolfe City; a great-grandson, Bowie Tanner of Wolfe City; two stepgranddaughters, Ronda Dickeson of Greenville and Lori Kinnaird of Campbell and a stepgrandson, Steven Lyday of Merit.
Pallbearers will be Steve Taylor, Tommy Caldwell, George Tanner, Randy Clark, J.T. Woodruff, Lavon Wilburn, Gonzalo Gonzales and Ronald Woodruff.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Lena Brown
Lena Lou Brown, 64, of Greenville died Sunday at a Dallas hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Carter Temple CME Church with Rev. Derrick Harris officiating. Burial will be in Grundy Memorial Park.
Daughter of Leonard Fields and Lula Fields Holmes, she was born Jan. 24, 1937 in Pittsburg. She was a laborer. She was a member of Carter Temple CME Church and Order of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are her father, Julius Holmes; a son, Elvert Burley Jr. of Greenville; four daughters, Sharon Denmark, Vickie Huey, Becky Tolson and Camellia Brown, all of Greenville; a brother, George Fields of Commerce; five sisters, Shirley Mondy of Farmersville, Mary Jackson of Greenville, Carolyn Horton of Angleton, Ruth Bessard of Beaumont and Janet Holmes of Dallas; 19 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and three sisters and grandparents.
Pallbearers will be James Fields, Richard Jackson, James Warren, Johnny Hardemon, Donnie Denmark and Kevin Heath.
Visitation is from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home.

Marvin Medlin
IRVING " Marvin "Butter" Frederic Medlin of Irving, former longtime resident of Greenville, died Monday. A graveside service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Thursday at Forest Park Cemetery in Greenville with Gordon Butler officiating.
He was born Sep. 3, 1924 in Jacobia.
His wife of 45 years, Wanda Medlin of Irving and a niece, Krista Winn, of Grand Prairie survive.
Brown's Memorial Funeral Home of Irving is in charge of arrangements.

Ethel Hall
POTTSBORO " Ethel Hall of Denison died Sunday at her home. There was a graveside service at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce with Bill Webb officiating.
Born June 13, 1907 in Greenville, she was the daughter of Wylie and Sarah Ida Stokes Castle. She was married to Claud Varnell Hall in Campbell on April 9, 1929. Mrs. Hall retired from ARA Food Service at East Texas State University and she was a homemaker. She was of the Church of Christ faith.
Surviving are sons Claud Edwin Hall of Pottsboro and Jerry Wayne Hall of Spring; a sister, Ida Pearl Adair of Diana; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Nov. 28, 1959 and seven brothers, Bennie Castle, Luther Castle, Cecil Castle, Ernest Castle, Cleborne Castle, Sylvester Castle and Delma Castle and two sisters, Lakie Dagley and Annie Castle.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jacob Hall, Scott Brooks, Chris Brock, Tim Luchka, Stephen Brunson, Raymond Brunson and Bill Adair.
Memorials may be made to the Commerce Church of Christ, P.O. Box 611, 1900 Culver Street, Commerce, Tx. 75429.
Johnson-Moore Funeral Home of Denison is in charge of arrangements.

Lorine Perkins
Lorine "Red" Perkins, 77, of Greenville died Thursday. Services are at 2 p.m. today at Mt. Elem Baptist Church with Michael Jolla and Rodney Hood officiating. Burial will be at Grundy Memorial Park.
She was born Jan. 28, 1925 in Russ County to Pearline Beatrice Anderson and Dock Blanton. She was married to Roy Perkins and was a member of Mt. Elem Baptist Church.
She is survived by one son, Roy Perkins, Jr. of Houston and three daughters, Patsy Ann Jones of Garland, Jerry Perkins and Mary Ann Williams, both of Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three sisters and one brother.
Grundy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Gaston Slade
QUINLAN " Gaston Ray Slade of West Tawakoni died Tuesday in Greenville. There is a graveside service at 2 p.m. today at Lakeside Memorial Park.
Son of Johnny and Brunettie Claborn Slade, he was born Jan. 19, 1932 in Lamar County, Miss. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Slade was a truck driver. He was a born again Christian.
Mr. Slade is survived by his wife, Ethel Slade; a son, Dwayne Slade; daughters Angela Thomas and Cherry Slade; brothers Rev. Jessie Slade, Hilton Slade, William Brown and Billy Brown; a sister, Glenda Faye Munn and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Lucretia Acki-Slade.
Quinlan Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Berger
Joseph Claud Berger, Sr., 83, of Greenville died Thursday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Coker-Mathews Chapel with Rev. Mike Nichols officiating.
He was born Feb. 7, 1918 in Wilksborro, Penn. to Charles and Cora Land Berger.
Mr. Berger was a retired director of procurement for Marriott Corporation. He was catholic and a member of the Lions Club and Greenville Masonic Lodge.
He is survived by two sons, Joe Berger, Jr. of Greenville and Jonathan R. Berger of Navasota; a brother, Paul Berger of Comas Lake, Fla., a sister, Peggy Reid of Archer, Fla.; one grandchild; one great-grandchild and ten nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Berger.

Annie Franklin
EMORY " Annie "Cupie" Franklin, 74, of Emory died Monday at her home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Shady Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Smith and Rev. Loyd McKinney officiating. Burial will be at Woosley Cemetery.
She was born Jan. 3 1927 in Rains County to F.M. Kelley and Willie Latimer. She was married May 8, 1954 to Horace Franklin in Fort Worth.
Ms. Franklin was a retired employee of Thorsen Manufacturing in Dallas and a member of Shady Grove Baptist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Carolyn Buffington of Mineola; one sister, Allene Latham of Point; two grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, four brothers and one sister.
Pallbearers will be Odie Taylor, Paul Molidor, Anthony Redmon, Randy Kelley, Eugene Kelley and Tommy Neff.
Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home.

Oneta McAbee
ALBA " Oneta L. McAbee, 76, of Alba, formerly of Greenville, died Monday at Grand Saline Hospital. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Wilson-Bartley Funeral Home Chapel in Alba with Mr. John Bolden and Mr. G.D. Phillips officiating. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery in Alba.
She was born March 21, 1925 in Alba to William Willie and Jewel Harvey Wood. She was a housewife and a member of Church of Christ.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry W. Swindell of Alba and Billy M. Swindell of Flint; one sister, Sarah "Butchie" Couch of Mesquite; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Grandchildren will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Lorine Perkins
Lorine "Red" Perkins, 77, of Greenville died Thursday. Services will be at 2 p.m. at Mt. Elem Baptist Church with Michael Jolla officiating. Burial will be at Grundy Memorial Park.

SHERMAN " Grace Thompson, 93, of Sherman, formerly of Leonard, died Sunday at Wilson N. Jones Hospital in Sherman. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Baptist Church in Leonard with Bro. Olin Henry and Bro. Phillip Smith officiating. Burial will be at Leonard Cemetery.
She is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Anthaline and Wayne Champion of Sherman; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and four great-greatgrandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Taylor Funeral Home Chapel in Leonard.
