Tom Ticer
WOLFE CITY " Tom Ticer, 78, of Wolfe City died Monday at Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham following a lengthy illness. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dixon Ayers and Rev. Eldon Chester officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City.
Born July 26, 1922 in Boise, Ellis County, he was the son of Homer Gordon and Margaret Frances Merritt Ticer. He married Mary Elizabeth Darnell on Feb. 3, 1944 in Mt. Pleasant. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. Mr. Ticer was a retired plant manager for Ennis-Texas Tag in Wolfe City. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Wolfe City; three sons, Phil Ticer, Valton Ticer and Clevis Ticer, all of Wolfe City; a daughter, Martha James of Houston; one brother, Ed Vance of Sherman; sister Billie Jo Bellaw of Athens; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and an aunt, Opal Merritt.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Roy Ticer and Tommy Ticer and one daughter, Frances Ticer.
Pallbearers will be Butch Henderson, Bob Wooten, Leslie Perry, Roy Boggs, James Sorrow and Kenneth Causey.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Frank Wertz
Francis Dominic "Frank" Wertz, 81, of Greenville died Friday morning at his residence. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. today at St. William's Catholic Church with Monsignor John V. McCallum officiating. Burial will be in East Mount Cemetery.
He was born Sep. 8, 1919 in Lawrence, Penn., son of Charles R. Wertz and Stella E. Schreiber Wertz. He was educated in Catholic schools and graduated from Altoona Catholic High. He later attended Penn State University and George Washington University, majoring in physics and electronics. Wertz served as general agent for several life companies.
He entered Naval service in September 1937. Wertz served in submarines during World War II and was a first lieutenant on Sub I-14, an aircraft-carrying submarine, with the prize crew which returned I-14 to Pearl Harbor in February 1946. In 1948 he transferred to Naval Aviation and served in VP and VS squadrons until his retirement as a commander in May 1969.
He was active in community affairs, serving as Post commander of American Legion Post 581 during the Legion National Convention in the summer of 1964. He also served as president, Dallas Council, Navy League of the United States during the National Navy League Convention in May 1964. Wertz organized and served as chairman of the first Dallas Military Ball in February 1965.
Wertz was a member of the Greenville City Council and a board member of the Texas Public Power Association. He was later appointed to board member of the Hunt County Tax Appraisal Board and the Hunt Tax Appraisal Review Board.
He was a member of St. William's Catholic Church.
Surviving are his wife Dottie Wertz; four daughters and sons-in-law, Lyn and Bob Sylvester of Panama City Beach, Fla., Elaine and Roger Beck of Houston, Claire and Dennis Thompson of Mineola and Mary and Michael King of Chesapeake, Va. and nine grandchildren, Andress Beck Pettibone and husband Stephen of New York City, N.Y., Q. Beck of New York City, N.Y., Philip Francis Beck of Houston, John Thompson of New York City, N.Y., Sarah Thompson of Mineola, Anna Thompson of Mineola, Mark Plodzik of Durham, Conn., Michelle Thomas of Cape Girardeau, Mo. and Thomas King of Chesapeake, Va.
One brother and two sisters preceded him in death.
Pallbearers will be Roger Beck, Q. Beck, Philip Beck, John Thompson, Dennis Thompson, Bob Sylvester, Julius Nussbaum, Terry Thomas and Wayne McHenry.
Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Daphne Butler
LEONARD " Graveside services for Daphne Butler, 38, of Houston, are at 10 a.m. today at the Leonard Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Richardson officiating. Ms. Butler died Thursday in Houston.
She was born Oct. 14, 1962 in Greenville, daughter of James Robert "Bobby" Butler and Gyneth Richardson Butler. She was a Baptist and a retail designer.
Survivors include her mother, Gyneth Jones, of Greenville; her father of Fair Oaks Ranch; a brother, Kyle Butler of Leonard; sisters Jennifer Jones of Tyler, Brooke Butler of Fair Oaks Ranch and Brittni Butler of Fair Oaks Ranch and grandparents Lonnie Butler of Trenton and Lissie Richardson of Leonard.
Taylor Funeral Home of Leonard is in charge of arrangements.

Donna Casey
SHATTUCK, Okla. " Donna Casey, 66, died Thursday at Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City, Okla. following a lengthy illness. Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Shattuck, Okla. with Rev. Lenn Murray officiating. Burial was in Shattuck Memorial Cemetery.
Born July 11, 1934 in Rocky Ford, Colo., she was the daughter of James and Jewel Rickman Fash. She was married to Gerald Casey in Stillwater, Okla. on July 15, 1951. They moved back to Shattuck in 1957 where they owned and operated The Garden Florist for 35 years.
Surviving are her husband, Gerald Casey; daughter Cynthia Dykes of Sulphur Springs; son Gary Casey of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three sisters, Shirley Ely of Grand Junction, Colo., Beverly Wilkerson of Tulsa, Okla. and Jimmie Jewel King of Claremore, Okla.; three brothers, Bill Fash of Atlanta, Ga., Ronnie Fash of Bellaire and Larry Fash of Piedmont, Okla. and three grandsons.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lois Temple and a brother, Harold Fash.
Mason Funeral Home of Shattuck, Okla. is in charge of arrangements.

Charles Gray
FARMERSVILLE " Charles L. Gray, 76, of Yoakum, former longtime resident of Farmersville, died May 7. A memorial service is scheduled at 10 a.m. May 16 at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Farmersville.
Son of Harry B. and Martha Allison Gray, he was born July 12, 1924 in Farmersville. His wife was Marie Gray. He served in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Air Force and was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a Salvation Army volunteer. Mr. Gray was a security guard.
He is survived by a niece, Gloria Cook of Yoakum.

Leo Hill
Leo L. Hill of Greenville died Sunday at Presbyterian Hospital. There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Dallas/Fort National Cemetery.
He was born May 13, 1935 in Denison to Henry and Mildred Brour Hill. Mr. Hill served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for Lance for several years and had lived in Greenville for 30 years.
Mr. Hill is survived by sister-in-law Neva Hill of Houston, friend Richard Hills of Caddo Mills and several nieces and nephews.
Peters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Roy Lay
CADDO MILLS " Roy Lee Lay, 69, of Royse City died Sunday in Rowlett. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Rentfrow Funeral Home Chapel-Caddo Mills with Rev. Larry Combs officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Son of Clifford Charles Lay and Emma Bradley Lay, he was born Nov. 25, 1931 in Tulare, Calif. On May 19, 1953 he married Verna Hutsell in Lovington, N.M. Mr. Lay served in the U.S. Army with the rank of sergeant. He was a painting contractor and was a member of Paradise Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of Royse City; three sons, Bob and Bill Lay of Royse City and David Lay of Caddo Mills; a daughter, Barbara Monroe of Royse City; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
A sister, Ilene Simmons, preceded him in death Sep. 26, 2000.
Pallbearers will be David A. Lay, Ronnie Monroe, Mike, Donny and Kenny Monroe and Russell Stroman.
Visitation is from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Donald Layman
QUINLAN " Donald Wilber Layman, 72, of Quinlan died Sunday in Dallas. He will be cremated and a service will be scheduled at a later date.
He was born in Mississippi to Wilber and Asby Layman. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Layman was employed by a dog kennel.
A niece, Brenda Layman, survives.

Joyce Morphew
GLENWOOD, Ark. " Joyce J. Morphew, 65, of Glenwood, Ark., formerly of Cambpell, died Sunday. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Langley Hall Cemetery with Rev. Travis Garner officiating.
Son of Herbert L. Morphew and Clider Pinson Morphew, he was born July 14, 1935 at Langley. Mr. Morphew served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a retired automotive mechanic and was self-employed at his shop in Campbell. After his retirement he moved back to Arkansas in 1996.
An aunt, Beckie Welch of Glenwood, survives.
Honorary pallbearers will be Sonja Fryar, Tana McCoy Good, Tenna Dugger, Tamara Baker, Sandra Haefle, Launa Morphew, Karen Barlow, Debbie Pinkerton, Ann Pate, Kathy Pinson Thompson, Paula Newsome and Brenda Wood.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Inc.

Emma Pilgrim
COMMERCE " Emma Jewell "Nanny" Pilgrim, 83, of Greenville died Monday. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Pemberton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Melvin Ray officiating. Burial will be in Rosemound Cemetery.
Daughter of Radlif Hampton Anderson and Della Dora Caldwell Anderson, she was born June 19, 1917 in Normangee. She was married to Herman Lee Pilgrim in January 1939 in Cooper. Mrs. Pilgrim lived most of her life in the Horton Community. She lived in Commerce prior to moving to Greenville in 1997 to be near family. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Artis Heights Baptist Church in Greenville.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Debbie Pilgrim of Greenville; a sister, Faye Tavalla of Austin; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on July 13 ,1973 and five brothers.
Pallbearers will be Chris Neaville Sr., Chris Neaville Jr., A.J. Anderson, Archie Anderson, Auldie Anderson and Michael Cottrell with Bobby Stogner serving as honorary pallbearer.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Ottis Smith
Ottis B. Smith, 90, of Greenville died Monday afternoon at Greencrest Manor Nursing Home. There is a graveside service at 3:30 p.m. today at East Mount Cemetery with Rev. Robert Priest officiating.
He was born Jan. 19, 1911 in Hunt County to Ed Tapp and Alcie Miller Tapp. He married Mildred Deberry in Greenville. Mr. Smith was a custodian for Greenville Independent School District. He was a Baptist.
Surviving are special friend Wanda Whittington of Greenville and brothers Raymond Tapp of Greenville, Wayland Tapp of Terrell, Olan Tapp of Fort Worth and L.T. Tapp of Arkansas.
His wife and one brother preceded him in death.

Wilson Tyler
FARMERSVILLE " Wilson H. Tyler, 91, of Farmersville died Sunday at Kindred Hospital in Dallas. Funeral services will be at First Baptist Church in Farmersville at 2 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Bart Barber officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Son of Dave Reynold Tyler and Blanche Nowlin Tyler, he was born Sep. 30, 1909 in Farmersville. He married Juanita Lucretia "Bill" Evans on Nov. 15, 1931 in Farmersville. He served in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Tyler was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church and was a member of the Men's Bible class.
His wife of Farmersville survives.
Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Farmersville.

Josie Follis
CUMBY " Josie Mae Hall Follis, 78, of Cumby died Saturday afternoon in Grand Prairie. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church in Cumby with Rev. Wesley Dean officiating. Burial will be in Cumby City Cemetery. Jones-Walker and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
She was born Oct. 17, 1922 in Jacobi to Joseph Leonard Hall and Vera Romans. She married R.C. Follis. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Cumby.
She is survived by three brothers, George Hall of Sulphur Springs, Truett Hall of Grand Prairie and Truman Hall of Mesquite; nine nieces and six nephews.
Her husband of 58 years, sisters Gladys Romans and Vera Romans Hall and her parents preceded her in death.

Genevieve Pearce
Genevieve Mary Pearce of Arlington, formerly of Greenville, died Friday at Arlington Memorial Hospital. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Pistone officiating. Burial will be in Money Cemetery.
Daughter of William Joseph Pike and Muriel Allein Clifford, she was born Oct. 22 1919 in Quincy, Mass. She was married to Kenneth Pearce on July 3, 1940 in Hyannis Port-Cape Cod, Mass. She retired from TG&Y and worked as a greeter at K-Mart. She was a member of Disabled American Veterans and the Altrusa Club. Mrs. Pearce was a member of Aldersgate Church.
She is survived by daughters Muriel Allein Pistone of Arlington and Mary Ann Clayton of Carrollton; sister Louise Burlingame of Tampa, Fla. and grandchildren Doris Allen Moore of Arlington, Daniel Charles Pistone of Dublin, Calif., Kenneth Allan Pistone of Wylie and Mary Edith Pistone of Arlington.
She was preceded in death by her husband, a son, parents, four sisters and one brother.
Wayne Money, Kenneth Money, Dale Money, Patrick Clayton, Michael Clayton and Jerry Selph will be pallbearers.

Homer Brignon
Homer Ray Brignon of Greenville died Wednesday at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Vaughn and James E. Erwin officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.
Son of Louie Bill Brignon and Virginia Reagan Brignon, he was born March 6, 1946. On June 15, 1984 he married Pennie Farris in Greenville. Mr. Brignon was a lifetime resident of Greenville. He was a field engineer for Farmers Electric Co-op. He was a Baptist.
Mr. Brignon is survived by his wife of Greenville; a son, Caleb Ray Brignon of Greenville; two daughters, Angela Brignon and Dawn Brignon, both of Greenville; stepdaughter Polly Walker of Tyler; a brother, Billy Brignon of Greenville and five grandchildren.
His parents and a brother, John Louis Brignon, preceded him in death.
Pallbearers will be Glen Farmer, Larry Key, Rex Reagan, Gary Bolch, Jason Brignon and Tim Mackey. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Elliott, Randy Reagan, Glen Wise, Charlie Prim and Jimmy Williams.

Juanita S. Brignon
Juanita S. Brignon, 72, of Greenville died Saturday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Park Street Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Wyatt officiating. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park.
She was born in Hunt County on Feb. 18, 1926, daughter of William Nay Strickland and Ethel Lois Davis Strickland. She and William V. Brighnon were married July 4, 1954 in Rockwall. She was Assistant Manager of Highland Terrace Apartments and a member of Park Street Baptist Church.
Survivors are two brothers, James William Strickland of Dallas and Billy Ray Strickland of Greenville; two sisters, Nadine Litton of Dallas and Wilma Lois Tigret of Atoka, Okla.; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Mays, Willard Gandy, Robert Parsons, Jerald Tredway, Marvin Bagwell and James Roddy. Honorary pallbearers are Deacons at Park Street Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Park Street Baptist Church Building Fund.
Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.
