COMMERCE " Varna F. Beggs, 85, of Commerce, died Friday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Strickland officiating. Burial will be in Ridgeview Cemetery, McKinney.
Born Sep. 22, 1915 in the Yowell Community, she was the daughter of Simon Ervin Moore and Addie Immaline Rainey Moore. She was married to Leslie Lee Beggs on Jan. 18, 1939 in Cooper. Mrs. Beggs was a housewife.
Mrs. Beggs is survived by two sons, Mikel Beggs of Farmersville and Leon Beggs of Huntsville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Five sisters and two brothers preceded her in death.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lenton Ray Moore, J.C. Moore, Clarence Doolin, Morris Doolin, Norris Doolin, Carlis Bills, Clifford Bills and Doyal Bills.
Visitation is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Henry Holden
QUINLAN " Henry "Buddy" Holden of Quinlan died Thursday in Sulphur Springs. Funeral service are at 1 p.m. today at Quinlan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Hammond officiating. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Son of John and Margaret Williams Holden, he was born Nov. 16, 1902 in Quinlan. Mr. Holden was a carpenter at E-Systems, now Raytheon. He was a Christian and a Mason.
Mr. Holden is survived by his wife, Marie Holden; a daughter, Margaret Walker; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Masons will serve as pallbearers.
Landreth Pearson
Landreth Pearson of Greenville died Thursday. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David R. Blackmon officiating. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park in Sulphur springs.
Born May 5, 1912 in Chester, Ark., she was the daughter of John Marion and Bertha Estell Stafford Pair. On Nov. 8, 1941 she was married to John Hammond Pearson in Sulphur Springs. She was office manager for Farmers and Merchant Compress and Warehouse Company for 31 years and was a past president of Altrusa International of Greenville. In 1967 she received the Gold Citation of Altrusa service and in 1974 the Dr. Nina Faye Calhoun Award. Mrs. Pearson was also associated with the Eastern Star, Kavanaugh Methodist Church, Governors Commission on Aging, Friends of the Library and Area Cotton Council.
She is survived by one sister, Muriel Edwards of Phoenix, Ariz. and several nieces and nephews.

Alexander Rorex
DALLAS " Alexander Kyle Rorex, died Wednesday. Funeral services are at 12:30 p.m. today at Restland Memorial Chapel.
He was born in Greenville on Dec. 16. 1915, son of Bill and Elizabeth Turner Rorex. He graduated from Greenville High School and then joined a traveling dance orchestra. In 1934 he enrolled at Texas Tech University and played with the college dance orchestra and the Tech college band. In 1941 he married Leta Carpenter.
Mr. Rorex served in the U.S. Army. He then attended Southern Methodist University where he received his bachelor and master degrees. He taught in the Carrollton school system for a short time before becoming executive director of the National Association of Theater Owners Association. He was also manager of the Variety Club of Texas. Mr. Rorex retired from the Association in 1984. He was a member of the Larry Walker's Class at First Baptist Church in Dallas.
Surviving are his wife,; a brother, Rusty Rorex of Greenville and sister Mrs. Lillian Laney of HIde Away Lake.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Howard Rorex and a sister, Helen Chapman.
Zelma Walden
ROYSE CITY " Zelma Mae Walden, 100, of Royse City died Thursday in Rockwall. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. today at Rentfrow Funeral Home Chapel-Royse City, with Rev. Bob Baldridge officiating. Burial is in Royse City Cemetery.
The daughter of John M. Tarrant and Etta Coomer Tarrant, she was born Jan. 29, 1901 in Hunt County. She was married to Henry Clarence Walden in 1921. Mrs. Walden was a homemaker and she was a Baptist.
She is survived by sons J.B. Walden of Mesquite, J.C. Walden of Austin and Lee Allen Walden of Baton Rouge, La.; a daughter, Daisy Mae Norris of Greenville; two brothers, Owen Tarrant of Quinlan and Glen Tarrant of Princeton; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1971 and two sons, Clarence "Pat" Walden and Jimmy Ray Walden.
Family and friends are pallbearers.
Charlotte Underhill
COMMERCE " Charlotte Underhill, 59, of Commerce died Wednesday in Brenham. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church in Commerce with Rev. Mike House officiating. Burial will be in Rosemound Cemetery.
She was born Oct. 8, 1941 in Alton, Ill., daughter of Charles Joseph Stewart and Dorothy Frances Jones Stewart. She was married to Dr. Vance Underhill on June 30, 1963 in Sweeny.
Mrs. Underhill was a longtime resident of Commerce, having moved from Austin in 1969. She graduated from Sweeny High School in 1959, attended Wharton County Junior College and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a bachelor of arts degree in music in 1963. She taught school for one year in El Paso and music for several years at T.A. Brown Elementary in Austin.
Mrs. Underhill was an antique dealer for 31 years and was a certified antiques appraiser. She was featured in a televised segment of Martha Stewart Living in November 2000. Her collections appeared in a variety of publications.
Mrs. Underhill was a member of the Coterie Club, D.A.R. and the First United Methodist Church of Commerce.
Survivors include her husband of Commerce; daughter and son-in-law Erin and Richard Eads of Dallas; uncle and wife John and Letty Jones of Bartlesville, Okla., Sanders and Buck families of Houston, Jones Family of Ohio and South Carolina and Adams Family of San Antonio and numerous cousins.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Pallbearers will be Justin Sanders, Charles Jones, Jimmie Sanders, Robert Jones, Cary Cooke and James Adams. John Jones, Richard Eads and Robert Peek will serve as honorary pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church.

Nathaniel Campbell Jr.
Nathaniel Earl Campbell Jr., 21, of Greenville died Sunday at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. Funeral services are at St. John Missionary Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Saturday, with Rev. Michael Jolla officiating. Burial is in Grundy Memorial Park.
Born in Lawton, Okla. on Dec. 4, 1979, he was the son of Nathaniel Campbell Sr. and LaNora Campbell. He graduated from Greenville High School and was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church.
Mr. Campbell is survived by his father of Tampa, Fla.; his mother, LaNora Campbell Brown of Greenville; stepfather Omar Brown of Detroit, Mich.; a brother, Travis Cozine Smith of Greenville; sister Kimeka Brown of Greenville; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. George Cozine of Dallas and Dorothy Cozine of Greenville and great-grandfather George Lewis of Greenville.
Pallbearers are Anthony Washington, Geno Fluellen, Jason Sanders, Aaron Cozine, Titus Sanders and Jerald Johnson.

Vernon Giles
LEONARD " A memorial service for Vernon Wade Giles, 83, of Bonham is scheduled April 12, 2 p.m., at IHS Nursing Home, 701 Seven Oaks, in Bonham. Rev. Dickie Golden will officiate. Mr. Giles' remains will be buried in the Valley Creek Cemetery near Leonard.
He died Tuesday at the nursing home following a lengthy illness.
Mr. Giles was a veteran of the United States Army and was a member of the Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Nell Giles of Bonham; a daughter, Marci Abbott of Lake Worth and grandson Morgan of Lake Worth.

Martha McCartney
ROCKWALL " Martha Hendry "Pat" McCartney, 73, died Wednesday. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, 1408 South Goliad, with Rev. Keith P. Boone and Rev. William Slack officiating. Burial is in Abston Cemetery in Lavon.
The daughter of Lutie and John Hendry Jr., she was born July 5, 1927 in Shanghai, China. She was raised primarily in Shanghai and Nanchang, China. She attended Shanghai American School.
Following the evacuation of Americans in 1941, she moved to Dallas and graduated from Highland Park High School in 1944. In 1947 she received a bachelor of arts degree from Southern Methodist University where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. She later received a master's degree in special education from East Texas State University.
Mrs. McCartney and her former husband, William Boyd McCartney, lived in Lavon and later in Greenville. She spent many years as a teacher and diagnostician with the Greenville Independent School District, retiring in 1987 and moving to Dallas. She volunteered in assisting autistic children, tutoring Dallas ISD students and counseling at the Wilkinson Center in East Dallas.
Mrs. McCartney was a member of First United Methodist Church of Rockwall, Kavanaugh United Methodist Church in Greenville and Lakewood United Methodist Church in Dallas.
Surviving are four children, Janet McCartney Johnson of Greenville, Blake Boyd McCartney of Heath, Carolyn McCartney Culbert of Dallas and Martha McCartney Schar of McLean, Va.; two sisters, Peggy Hendry Dobson of Austin and Janet Hendry Brown of Alstead, N.H.; two brothers, John L. Hendry III of San Antonio and Robert H. Hendry of Kingwood; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her stepmother, Lois Sells Hendry.

Robert Nash
LEONARD " Graveside services for Mr. Robert Euell Nash, 65, of the Blanton Chapel Community near Leonard are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Barnes Cemetery in Trenton with Rev. David Riley officiating. He died Thursday at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas.
He was born Jan. 14, 1936 to Edgar Euell Nash and Audrey Flippo Nash. Mr. Nash was a state meat inspector for the State of Texas and was a member of the Blanton Chapel First United Methodist Church. He married Jo Nita Hancock on July 20, 1960 in the Blanton Chapel Community.
Surviving are his wife of Blanton Chapel; a son, Joel Nash of Blanton Chapel and four grandchildren.

The daughter of Clarence and Dovie Jones, she was born Dec. 9, 1909 in Frisco. In May 1927 she was married to Zeb Nelson of Princeton. Mrs. Nelson was a Baptist.
Surviving are a daughter, Margie Ruth Sims of Caddo Mills; grandson Zeb Sims and wife Ann of Greenville; a granddaughter, Beckie Renea Naflkov and husband Rush of Caddo Mills and four great-grandchildren, Kevin and Tawana Ann Sims and Caleb Robert and Brandon Ryan Naflkov.

Mrs. Roberts was a homemaker and she was a member of First Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of Quitman; her mother of Greenville; son and daughter-in-law Mika and DeLisa Roberts of Greenville; grandchildren Colton and Chloe Roberts of Greenville and other family.
She was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Roberts in 1983; her father and a brother, Joe Claude Howard.

She is survived by a son, Terry M. Hopkins; two daughters, Brenda Joyce Wales and Joanna Lee Burch; sisters Alice Mae Bissett and Francis Wilkinson; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her husband; a son, Gary Wayne Hopkins; sister Marjorie Bess and brothers Jamison R. Riley and Samuel Orr Riley Jr.
