QUINLAN - Wanda Dell Gifford of Quinlan died Wednesday at a Denton hospital. A memorial service is set at 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church with Rev. David Hammond officiating. Burial will be Saturday in Spiro, Okla.
Daughter of Tessie Gunter Warren and Brooks "Happy" Warren, she was born April 2, 1925, in Russellville, Ark. She was a member of the Class of 1943 at Central High School in Little Rock, Ark. She worked at the City of Quinlan through the Green Thumb program and was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Lewisville. Mrs. Gifford was a regular of the Quinlan Bridge Club and was a volunteer with the Hunt County Fair Association in the Creative Arts Division. She also participated in the 9th Armored Division Super Group reunions.
Survivors include three children, Robert Page of Peoria, Ariz., Patty Page Stovall of Corinth and Bettina Page Frisby of Little Rock, Ark.; a sister, Bettye Slaughter of Quinlan; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Gifford of Spiro, Okla.
Memorials ma be made to the Texas Hearing and Service Dogs of Austin, the American Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
Fred Love Jr.
WEST TAWAKONI - Fred Addison Love, Jr., 49, of Tawakoni died July 19 at Veteran's Hospital in Dallas. There will be a memorial service Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the VFW Post 2559 in West Tawakoni.
Mr. Love was born Nov. 10, 1951, in Midland, son of Fred and Artie Love. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from December 1969 to December 1973 during the Vietnam war. He was a retired truck driver.
Mr. Love is survived by a daughter, April M. Love of Tawakoni; sister Peggy Jones of Murchison and a brother, Frank Love of Elmdorf.
Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Jimmy Love.
Visitation will be before and after the service at the Love's home in Tawakoni.
Stephen Pondish
Stephen George Pondish of Greenville died Wednesday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. No services are planned. Burial will be in Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, N.Y.
He was born Dec. 23, 1913, in Nesquehoning, Penn. to John Pondish and Mary Kurriee Pondish. On April 8, 1950, he married Cecioa Mulet in New York. He was a corporal in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Pondish was a retired craftsman in the jewelry business. He was a Catholic.
He is survived by friends Victor and Luz Rodriguez and Ruben Rodriguez of Greenville.
His wife preceded him in death in September 1969.

Carry Grundy-Fannin
Services for longtime Greenville businesswoman Carry Grundy-Fannin will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at New Hope Baptist Church. Burial will be in Grundy Memorial Park. She died Friday in a Dallas hospital.
,She was born in Clarksville to Thaddeus and Celia Becton Johnson. She attended and graduated from public schools in Clarksville and attended college at Prairie View A&M University where she obtained her teacher's certificate. After teaching for one year, she returned to college at Bishop College and then to Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins where she received her bachelor's degree in elementary education. She began her teaching career in Vasey Later, then taught in Caddo Mills, Garland and Greenville.
In 1944 she and her husband took over the operation of Andrews Funeral Home on Bois d'Arc Street. The facility was remodeled and the name was changed to Grundy Funeral Home. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church for many years and held numerous offices in the church. She was also active in many civic organizations.
Surviving are a son, Charles A. Venters Sr. of Dallas; a sister, Mrs. Dimple Merritt of Fresno, Calif; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
,She was preceded in death by a brother, one sister and four spouses.
Grundy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Cindy Lee
EMORY - Cindy Lee, 43, of Arlington, formerly of Emory, died Friday at her residence. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Smith officiating.
Born in Terrell on Oct. 1, 1957, she was the daughter of Alton and Suzanne Ballard Jennings. She was a licensed vocational nurse and she was a Baptist.
Survivors include her father of Canton; her mother, Suzanne Collard of Emory; two daughters, Brandy Butler of Lancaster and Laura Lee of Balch Springs; a sister, Carol Elliott of Emory and four granddaughters.
A son, Michael Bryon Lee, preceded her in death.
Visitation is from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel.

Billy Owens Sr.
CORPUS CHRISTI - Billy D. Owens Sr. died Friday at his residence in Corpus Christi. Funeral services were Sunday at 2 p.m. at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was in Seaside Memorial Park.
Son of Sim F. Owens Sr. and Laura Cozby Owens, he was born Oct. 27, 1921. Mr. Owens was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He had lived in Corpus Christi since 1959 where he attended Parkdale Baptist Church.
He was married to Jimmie Jewel Owens for 53 years until her death in September 1993. He later married Frances Mankin Owens on Dec. 8, 1997.
Surviving are his wife; a daughter Carolyn Maddux of Corpus Christi and her daughter, Kim Smith of Houston and son Trey Maddux of College Station; great-grandson Gaston Smith of Houston; great-granddaughter Savannah Leigh Smith of Houston; daughter and son-in-law Donna and Robert Wallace Johnson II of Corpus Christi and their sons Robert Bryan Johnson of San Marcos and Stephen Johnson of Corpus Christi; daughter and son-in-law Dianna and Cooper Wallach and sons Travis Wallach and Tyler Wallach, all of Houston; son Billy Don Owens Jr. of Corpus Christi; one brother and sister-in-law, Gerald Mead and Betty Owens of Denison; one sister, Jo Ann Ethridge of Celeste; stepchildren Dr. R.C. Mankin of San Angelo, Thomas Mankin of Houston and Farrelyn Lee of Bloomfield, N.M.
His parents and one brother, Sim F. Owens Jr., preceded him in death.

IRVING - Nona Frances Shields, 86, of Watauga, died Tuesday. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brown's Memorial Chapel in Irving with Dr. Randy Rudisell officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
She was born Dec. 24, 1914, in Celeste, daughter of John W. Gibbs and Quinnie Mathews Gibbs.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Wayne Shields of Watauga; sons and daughters-in-law Kenneth and Shirley Shields of Sanger and Jerry and Denise Shields of Watauga; a daughter, Barbara White of Watauga; a sister, Kathleen Wharton of Arlington; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Surviving are her husband, and niece, Carla Clinton of Commerce; three sisters, Janice Grahm of Mt. Pleasant, Ruth Allen of Malta and Bobby Nichols of Eugene, Ore.; sister-in-law Peggy Hogan, of Commerce; a brother, Kenneth Kingston of New Boston and numerous nieces and nephews.

Florence Wallis
Florence J. Wallis, 91, of Greenville died Monday at Hospice of East Texas. Funeral services are at 6 p.m. today at Peters Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Whitewright.
Daughter of A.T. Phillips and Sarah Elizabeth Woosley, she was born Feb. 7, 1910, in Whitewright. She was a bookkeeper for a state school. Mrs. Wallis was a Methodist.
Surviving are nieces Sarah P. Hall of Chandler, Nasa P. Smith of Greenville, Mary Lyons of Dallas and Jane Miller of Midlothian; two nephews, James Lynn Phillips of Point and Jamie Phillips of Lott and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

George Caldwell
BELLMEAD - George William Caldwell, 89, of Waco died Saturday at a local nursing home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. James Haynes officiating.
Mr. Caldwell was born Sept. 23, 1911, in Childress and his family lived in Hunt County for a while. He married Laura Loetta Ketner on July 6, 1948, in Fort Worth. He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired Sep. 30, 1971. Mr. Caldwell then worked for the V.A. Medical Center, retiring with 20 years' service. He was a member of Lacy Lakeview Methodist Church.
Survivors include a son, Jerry Caldwell of Temple; Geneva Hibbard of California and two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife on July 22, 2000, and a grandson, Jeremy Caldwell in 1996.

Born in Rockwall on June 5, 1970, she was the daughter of Iva Lee and Dollie Taylor.

EMORY - Cleo White, 75, of Emory died Sunday at Green Acres Nursing Home. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at the Church of Christ with David Baker and G.D. Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Turner Cemetery.
Daughter of Thomas P. Godwin and Mary Martin Godwin, she was born Sep. 15, 1925, in Wood County. She was married to J.W. White on Dec. 25, 1944, in Van Zandt County. Mrs. White was a homemaker and was a member of the Church of Christ.
She is survived by two sons, Bobby White of Gary and Harold White of Emory; a daughter, Viola Meeks of Emory; brother Dave Neeley of El Paso; a sister, Hazel Parrish of Emory; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1989.
Friends will serve as pallbearers.

QUINLAN - Cletius Don Wilder, 70, of Quinlan died at his home Saturday following a long battle with cancer. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. today at the Quinlan LyBrand Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Leach and Rev. J.R. Raley officiating. Burial will be in West Memorial Cemetery in Quinlan.
Son of William Dewey and Viola Mae Wilder, he was born Aug. 4, 1930, in Ector in Fannin County. He was a member of First Baptist Good Shephard Church in Dallas.
Mr. Wilder is survived by his wife of 48 years, Thelma Cotten Wilder; son and daughter-in-law Mark and Connie Turner of Euless; daughters and sons-in-law Jean and Joe Brown of Arlington and Cleta and Terry Green of Quinlan; three sisters, Fannie Lou Cotten and Jo Topping of Winnsboro and Willie Mae Brown of Howe; a brother, James Wilder of Dallas; brothers-in-law Alvin, Arlie and Melvin Cotten, James Patterson and Clyde Topping; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents and a brother, John "Buster" Wilder, preceded him in death.
