COMMERCE - Graveside services for Ruby Jackson, 55, of Wichita Falls will be at 10 a.m. today in Rosemound Cemetery, with minister David Gibson officiating.
Mrs. Jackson died Tuesday in Wichita Falls Care Center.
She was born Nov. 20, 1945, in Hunt County to Ellis and Hallie Arrington Mobley. She was a widow.
Survivors include four sisters, Mary Jackson, Rosie Mobley, Barbara Mobley and Susie Patrick, all of Commerce; a brother, Wilburn Mobley of Greenville.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Services are under the direction of Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home in Commerce.
Osa Jefferson
MERIT - Graveside services for Osa Othelia Jefferson, 99, of Farmersville will be today at 11 a.m. in Merit Cemetery, with Rev. Riley Hamilton officiating.
Mrs. Jefferson died Monday in Hinton Home in Farmersville.
She was born Aug. 27, 1901, in Farmersville to John and Alberta Duran Standifer. She married Thomas Lester Jefferson on Jan. 20, 1918, and was a member of First Methodist Church in Merit.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Betty Jefferson of Rockwall; a sister, Donna Dennis of Greenville; and three grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hurst's Fielder-Baker Funeral Home in Farmersville.
Jocelyn Mendez
ROCKWALL - Funeral services for Jocelyn Raven Alida Mendez will be at 1 p.m., Friday, in Rest Haven Funeral Home-Rockwall Chapel, with Rev. Lance Eiland officiating.
Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
The infant died at birth Sunday in Garland.
She is survived by her parents, Carlos and Jennifer Mendez of Garland; a brother, Romeo Mendez of Garland; grandparents Alberto and Janie Mendez of Garland; great-grandparents Paul and Tricia Harris of Rowlett, Manuel and Josie Hernandez of Quinlan; Braulio Mendez of Monterrey, Mexico, Helen Zenor of Des Moines, Iowa.
Open visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., today, at the funeral home.
Willie Parker
COMMERCE - Willie Jean Parker of Commerce died Saturday in a Paris hospital. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Mt. Moriah Temple Baptist Church in Commerce with Rev. W.O. Spencer officiating. Burial will be in Grundy Memorial Park.
Born June 29, 1946, in Douglasville, she was the daughter of Geter and Marie Hatley. She married Jerry Parker on July 22, 1965, in Marietta. She was a member of Restoration Church of God in Christ.
Surviving are five brothers, Burnett Hatley of Brownwood, Norris Hatley of Greenville, Bennie Hatley, Larry Hatley and Willie Hatley, all of Commerce and four sisters, Lonia Pierce of Canton, Ohio, Evelyn Bailey of Commerce, Wanda Fields and Tasha Pruett, both of Commerce.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and one brother.
A wake is scheduled 7-8 p.m. Friday at Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home.
Dewey Shelton
QUINLAN - Funeral services for Dewey Thomas Shelton of Red Oak will be at 10 a.m. today in Quinlan Funeral Chapel, with burial in Lakeside Memorial Park.
Mr. Shelton died Monday in Red Oak.
,He was born April 5, 1923, in Ladonia to Thomas Alvis and Alverdia Lobb Shelton. He married Mary Leonard Shelton on Feb. 24, 1947, in Quanah. He was retired from the sanitation department of Dallas and was a Pentecostal.
Survivors include his wife, of West Tawakoni; a son, Dewey Wayne Shelton of Murrieta, Calif.; daughters Verdie Louise Shelton Moore of Ouilla and Barbara Sue Green of Waxahachie; sisters Geraldine Martin of Anna, Ora Roland of Van Alstyne and Betty Joe Keenlin of Lone Oak; 14 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Randal Shelton; one sister and three brothers.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Cole, Rusty Green, Steven Cole, Duane Shelton and Mark Henry.
William Vandergriff
SULPHUR SPRINGS - Funeral services for William Earl "Van" Vandergriff, 76, of Sulphur Springs, are at 10 a.m. today at Murray-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Larry Dever, a member of the family, speaking. Burial will be in Martin Springs Cemetery.
He died Tuesday morning at his residence.
The son of Isaac H. and Lula Mae Hood Vandergriff, he was born May 24, 1925, in Sulphur Springs. He served in the U.S. Marines during World War II. He married Consuelo Lois Bacon on Jan. 13, 1946, in Yuma, Ariz. Mr. Vandergriff was the owner/operator of Van's Tree Service in Hunt, Hopkins, Kaufman, Wood and Rains Counties for more than 45 years. He was a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was a Jehovah's Witness.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Connie Pickerill of Sulphur Springs; two sons, Steven Clyde Vandergriff of Blooming Grove and Bobby Earl Vandergriff of Longview; sister Betty Ruth Tate of Jacksonville; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, William Kent Vandergriff, three brothers and one sister.
Pallbearers will be Shane Pickerill, Chris Pickerill, Kenny Graham, Ayron Vandergriff, Todd Vandergriff and Kevin Vandergriff. Jim Riffle will serve as honorary pallbearer.
Samuel Watson
A memorial service for Samuel Elvon Watson will be at 10 am. Saturday at the VFW Post 4011, 5108 Wellington, with Cloral Lovell, chaplain, and Rev. Joyce Pattison officiating.
He was born July 14, 1931, was declared missing in action Oct. 10, 1950, and presumed dead on Dec. 31, 1953.
Mr. Watson is survived by a sister, Ruth Smith of Lone Oak; two brothers, Herman Watson and Charles Watson, both of Lone Oak.
He was followed in death by his parents, Samuel Robert Watson and Bertha Ann King Watson, and three brothers, Curtis, W.J. and Alford Watson.
Bobbie Burks Sr.
QUINLAN - Bobbie Joe Burks Sr., 52, of Wills Point died Tuesday at his residence. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Quinlan LyBrand Funeral Home Chapel with Hershey Barnett officiating. Burial is in Able Spring Cemetery.
Born in Carrollton on March 28, 1945, he was the son of Oren and Willie Carl Rickett. He married Radie Mae Thornton on Aug. 18, 1971 in Dallas. He was a mechanic.
Surviving are his wife; his mother; two sons, Bobby Joe Burks Jr. of Rockwall and Joey Lee Burks of Wills Point; three brothers, Raymond Canada of Wills Point, Charles Ray Burks of Valley View and Richard Oren Burks of Quinlan; and one grandchild.
Visitation is Thursday and Friday until 9 p.m.
Inez Maxwell
Inez Maxwell, 77, of Garland, died Tuesday at Baylor Medical Center in Garland. Graveside services are at 3:30 p.m. today at Memoryland Memorial Park with Rev. Pat Griffin and Rev. Riley Hamilton officiating.
The daughter of Jerry Mars Lowe and Verdie Grambell Lowe, she was born in Hunt County on March 12, 1920. She and Ray Maxwell were married on Dec. 24, 1942. Mrs. Maxwell was a retired beauty operator. She was a Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter, Kay Maxwell of Dallas; a brother, M.J. Lowe of Dallas; three sisters, Frances Kohn of Brownwood, Viola Bagwell of Greenville and Modena Dunn of Greenville and nieces and nephews.
Her husband preceded her in death.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Tilger, Terry Roe, Nelson Berry, David Martinez, Mike Bowen, and Micky Oehlschlaeger.

Petra Miller
Petra "Pat" Isabel Miller of Greenville died Tuesday at her residence. Funeral services are at Dixon Baptist Church at 10:30 am. Thursday with Dr. Kelly Carr officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.
She was born July 8, 1930 in Chihuahua, Mexico, to Mr. and Mrs. Victor Verdugo. She was married to H.D. Miller. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Miller was a member of Dixon Baptist Church and served in the church nursery. She was a member of W.M.U.
She is survived by a son, Hubert D. Miller Jr. of Sherman; two daughters, Blanca Thompson and Ann Groves, both of Greenville and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on April 19, 1989; a brother and four sisters.
Memorials may be made to Dixon Baptist Church.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Peters Funeral Home. The funeral home is in charge of arrangements.
Norma Savage
TERRELL - Norma Savage, 71, of Quinlan died Tuesday in Greenville. Funeral services are at Thursday in the Anderson-Clayton Brothers Funeral Home Chapel. Burial is in Crandall Cemetery.
Mrs. Savage was born March 3, 1926 in Crandall; the daughter of John Franklin and Glennie Inel Good. She was a homemaker.
Surviving are three sons, Sammy Savage of Quinlan, Larry Savage of Midlothian and Arthur Savage of New Caney; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three sisters, Helen Miller of Quinlan, Pat Greathouse of Dallas and Betty Driggers of Cedar Creek; and two brothers, Billy Good of Crandall and J.D. Good of Plano.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cloe Samuel Savage.
James Timmins
COMMERCE - James Franklin Timmins, 83, of Commerce died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Pemberton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Lance officiating. Burial is in Rosemound Cemetery.
He was born Oct. 16, 1914 in Waxahachie to Robert F. and Mable Timmons. He graduated from Waxahachie High School and attended Texas A&M University. He was a veteran in the U.S. Army and served during World War II. He moved to Dallas and was employed by Affiliated Foods and Dairy Queen.
Mr. Timmins later moved to Princeton and owned and operated the local Dairy Queen. He retired in 1985 and moved to Commerce.
Survivors include his wife, Lillian Timmins of Commerce; three sons, Chris Timmins of Garland, Robert Franklin Timmins of McKinney and James Franklin Timmins of Commerce; four daughters, Mary Braddock of Combine, Patricia Westfall of Garland, Miriam Devaney of Okanogan, Wash. and Amy Michelle Timmins of Commerce; a sister, Mary Husted of Waxahachie and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, James Eric Timmins in 1983.
Rev. Kenneth Gant
TAYLOR - Rev. Kenneth M. Gant, 76, of Rice's Crossing died Sunday at his residence. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at Condra Memorial Chapel in Taylor with Rev. Gerald Thurman officiating.
After the service in Taylor, his body will be sent to Delta Funeral Home in Cooper where visitation will be Tuesday afternoon. There is a chapel service at First Baptist Church in Klondike at 2 p.m Wednesday followed by burial in New Klondike Cemetery.
Born July 21, 1921, in Cooper, he was the son of E.C. Gant and Myrtle Chancellor Gant. He was a Southern Baptist minister for 56 years. He had lived in Rice's Crossing for 18 years and was affiliated with Brushy Creek Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Willie Margaret Ferguson Gant of Rice's Crossing; two sons, Ernest Paul Gant of Rice's Crossing and David Wayne Gant of Crescent, Okla.; two sisters, Verda Louise (Patsy) Tatum of Campbell and Juanita Pippin of Campbell; three brothers, Sam Gant of Fort Worth, Bobby Gant of Cleburne and L.C. Gant of Balch Springs; five granddaughters; two grandsons and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kenneth Ray Gant and a brother, Hershel Gant.
Lola Jo Hall
EMORY - Lola Jo Hall, 74, of Emory, died Sunday at her daughter's home in Rains County. Services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Emory Church of Christ with David Baker officiating. Burial is in Turner Cemetery.
She was born in Snyder on Aug. 17, 1923, to H.F and May Eoff Rogers. She married D.J. Hall on Nov. 9, 1940, in Snyder. She was retired from LTV and a member of the Church of Christ.
Surviving are her husband; a son and daughter-in-law, Joe Frank and Sharon Hall of Arlington; a daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Bruce Shuck of Emory; a brother, Jay Rogers of Lubbock; sisters, Netha Lynn Jones of Waco and Jane Evans of Abilene; five grandchildren and nine-greatgrandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James Liles, Don Holt, Gary Holderby, Doug Shuck, Brett Hall and Seth Holderby. Honorary pallbearers are Travis Shuck, Derek Hall, Shelly Arnold and Philip Moore.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wilson-Orwasky Funeral Home.

Georganna Pitman
Georganna Pitman, 58, of Greenville died Monday in Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. Graveside services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Money Cemetery with Rev. Royce Litchfield officiating.
Mrs. Pitman was born Dec. 8, 1939, in Greenville; the daughter of Walter and Vernell Kincaid Wilson. She was married to Elmo Pitman in 1956 in Greenville. A restaurant food server, she was a member of Central Christian Church.
Surviving are a son, Eugene Pitman of Greenville; two brothers, James Wilson and Billy Wilson, both of Greenville; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Mrs. Pitman was preceded in death by her husband, one son, her parents and one half-brother.

Bessie Sharp
COMMERCE - Bessie Lee Sharp, 85, of Commerce died Sunday at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Pemberton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike House officiating. Burial is in Rosemound Cemetery.
Mrs. Sharp was born Dec. 10, 1912, in Yowell; the daughter of Luther and Emma Tichenor Moore. A lifelong resident of Commerce, she was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Home Demonstration Club.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Mary Lou Sharp of Dallas; brother and sister-in-law, Henry and Dorothy Moore of Bryan; sisters, Ruby Helms of Farmers Branch; granddaughter, Carolyn Yarbrough of Odessa; granddaughters and husbands, Martha and Allen Kaus of Terrell and Kathryn and Shane Potter of Garland; great-grandchildren, Jamie Yarbrough of Odessa, Kelli and Kristi Klaus of Terrell; and sister-in-law, Louise Moore of Sulphur Springs.
Mrs. Sharp was preceded in death by her husband in 1934; four brothers and four sisters.
Gertrude Sowels
LEONARD - Gertrude Sowels, 89, of Sherman and formerly of Leonard, died Sunday in a Sherman hospital. Graveside services are at 3 p.m. today at Leonard Cemetery with Rev. Roy Martin officiating.
Mrs. Sowels was born June 21, 1908, in El Dorado, Okla.; the daughter of Rufus Marion and Ada Stanfield Duke. She was married to Robert Sowels on March 7, 1924, in Leonard. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Leonard.
Surviving are a daughter, Naomi Ridings of Greenville; sons, Larry Sowels of Savoy, Gary Sowels of Sherman and David Sowels of Mesquite; seven grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Sept. 21, 1971.

Theda Whitley
COMMERCE - Theda Alean Whitley, 76, of Commerce died Sunday in Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at Jones Memorial Chapel with David Gibson officiating. Burial is in Rosemound Cemetery.
Mrs. Whitley was born April 8, 1921, in Yantis; the daughter of George W. and Mattie Sartin Britton. She was married to Albert Portlen Whitley on Dec. 1, 1943, in Garland. She received her masters degree from East Texas Teachers College.
Surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Albert "Bert" Portlan Whitley Jr, and Lois of Commerce, Samuel Henry Whitley II and Joan of Dowington, Pa.; grandson and wife, Samuel Henry Whitley III and Charlene of Commerce; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Neva Enlow of Dallas.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
