Phil Mullinnix

Phil Mullinnix, 49, of Garland, died Friday at his home. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Kavanaugh United Methodist Church with Rev. Carroll Copeland officiating.

Mr. Mullinnix was born on Oct. 20, 1948, in Greenville to John Mullinnix and Nelda Pickens. He was a Methodist and owned a vending machine company.

Surviving are his father, of Garland; daughters Kristi Simmons of Flint and Amy Mullinnix of Tyler; and brother Johnny Mullinnix of Lindale, Texas.

Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Lucille Stratton

Hunt County native Lucille Stratton of Tyler died Saturday in a Tyler hospital. She was 77.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Pollard Memorial United Methodist Church with Dr. Von Dawson, Dr. Douglas Caldwell and Rev. Dow C. Harleston officiating. Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday at Merit Cemetery in Hunt County.

She was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Emory. She was married to Freddy Roland Stratton for 58 years and he preceded her in death. Mrs. Stratton, who lived in the Merit area until moving to Tyler two years ago, worked for the Hunt County Tax Office, the City of Greenville Employees' Credit Union and retired from the City of Greenville Tax Office.

She was past president of United Methodist Women, district officer for P.T.A., district officer in Hunt County for Extension Homemakers and member of Rose Garden Chapter of American Business Women's Association, Tyler Women's Forum, Tyler Civic Theatre and Pollard Memorial United Methodist Church and Builders Sunday School Class.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Terry Weiss of Tyler; a granddaughter and her husband, Tisa and Billy Hibbs Jr. of Tyler and great-grandson, Stratton Weiss Hibbs of Tyler; and a sister-in-law, Ethel Stratton, and niece, Shirley Robertson, both of Greenville.

Pallbearers will be Benjee Cox, Tony Cox, Larry Dike, James Hass, Russ Hobbs and Davor Jedlicka. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Builders Sunday School Class.

Memorials may be made to the Stratton Family Scholarship in care of Billy Hibbs Jr., P.O. Box 8357, Tyler, 75711, or Pollard United Methodist Church.

Visitation will be from 7-9 p.m. today at Lloyd James Funeral Home in Tyler.

John Robertson

LADONIA - John Hugh Robertson, former resident of Ladonia, died Friday in Houston. Funeral services will be at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Delta Funeral Home Chapel with Sam Bush officiating. Burial will be in the Ladonia Cemetery.

He was born in Delta County on Jan. 27, 1904, the son of George Galloway Robertson and Viola Grace Garner Robertson. On June 5, 1925, he married Ethel Irene Fish.

Mr. Robertson was a retired farmer and rancher, and during World War II he worked for Consolidated Bombers in Fort Worth. He lived in Ladonia from 1936 until moving to Houston in 1990. He attended school in Rattan.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, George and Elva Robertson of Midland; a daughter and son-in-law, Lee and Rex Merrick of Houston; four grandsons and two great-granddaughters.

His wife preceded him in death Dec. 11, 1996.

Visitation will be at the funeral home before service time Sunday.

Donald Coffman

COMMERCE - Donald L. Coffman, 61, of Commerce died Wednesday at Bossier Medical Center in Bossier City, La. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home with Rev. Lyndon Petty and Rev. Ricky Russell officiating. Burial is in Emblem Cemetery in the Emblem Community.

Mr. Coffman was born Sept. 20, 1936 in the Horton Community to Amos Coffman and Opal Redmon Coffman. He and Barbara Wilson were married July 3, 1974 in Commerce. He was a truck driver and a member of Christian Worship Center in Campbell.

Survivors include his wife of Commerce; his mother of Commerce; three sons, Tony Coffman and Carl Coffman of Birthright and Eric Coffman of Tira; a daughter, Recona Lopez of Baytown; four sisters, Myrtle Rogers of Como, Susie Litrell of Martin Springs, Bennie Wisdom of Missouri and Patricia Murray of Commerce; three brothers, David Coffman of Dodd City, Truitt Coffman of Campbell and Doyle Coffman of Pecan Gap; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

His father preceded him in death on Dec. 15, 1974.

Pallbearers will be Danny Kelley, Buddy Ferrell, Keith Weaver, Jerry Horton, Dorman Morgan and Mike Tucker.

Jessie Lofman

ROCKWALL - Jessie "Rozelle" Lofman, 92, died Wednesday. Graveside services are Saturday at 10 a.m. at Caddo Mills Cemetery with Rev. Gilbert Skaar officiating.

She was born in Royse City on Feb. 21, 1906, daughter of Rev. Hulon and Maude Coffman.

She is survived by a son, H.A. Lucky Lofman; two daughters, Greta Skaar and Sarabeth Stephens; 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Adolf Lofman, preceded her in death.

There is an open visitaton today at Rest Haven Funeral Homes, Rockwall Chapel.

Carl Martin

QUINLAN - Carl "Glen" Martin of Dallas died Wednesday at Mesquite Medical Center in Mesquite. There is a graveside service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hooker Ridge Cemetery in Lone Oak with Rev. Clyde Johnson and Rev. Leroy Butts officiating.

He was born in Tyler on Dec. 15, 1945.

Survivors include five brothers, Billy T. Martin, Gene Martin, Jerry Martin, Wayne Cox and Jimmy Cox and a sister, Margaret Burnham.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy D. Cox, Darrell W. Cox, Shawn C. Cox, Steven Baker and Brian E. Martin. Jeff D. Ray and Aaron W. Sherves will be alternate pallbearers.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Quinlan LyBrand Funeral Home in Quinlan.

Annette Shields

FORT WORTH - Funeral services for Annette Terry Shields are at 2 p.m. Saturday at River Oaks Christian Church, Fort Worth. Burial is at Greenwood Memorial Park.

She was born July 8, 1925 in Floyd. A retired school librarian, she graduated from Greenville High School and attended East Texas State University and the University of Texas at Austin.

Mrs. Shields was a 40-year member of River Oaks Christian Church and a member of the Lake Worth Garden Club for more than 30 years. She was a past president of the garden club.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Sandy Shields of Lake Worth; a son, Robert Shields of Fort Worth; two daughters, Paula Jaegerman of Keller and Terry Ely of Tulsa, Okla.; a brother, Hubert Terry of Greenville and two granddaughters.

Memorials may be made to the Building Fund at River Oaks Christian Church.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Greenwood Funeral Home, 3100 White Settlement Road.

Marvin Washington

Marvin L. Washington of Neylandville died Monday at the Dallas VA Hospital. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Paul Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Minter. Burial is in Grundy Memorial Park.

He was born in Sulphur Springs on June 19, 1930, son of Connie and Clotte Franklin Washington. He married Frances Louise Johnson on July 13, 1952 in Neylandville. Mr. Washington served in the U.S. Army. He was a cement mason and was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife of Neylandville; three sons, Phillip Washington of Dallas, Frederick Washington of Mesquite and Marvin Washington Jr. of Commerce; five daughters, Linda Fort and Brenda Johnson, both of Arlington, Patricia Cherry of Garland, Alfreda Ward of Irving and Wendy Washington of Grand Prairie; a brother, George Washington Sr. of Amarillo; 14 grandchildren and one grat-grandchild.

Preceding him in death were two brothers, a sister and a grandson.

Pallbearers are Eric Robertson, Dwight Sanders, Paul Brown, Michael Carroll, Jermey Washington, Jason McCully, Charleston Gahagan.

Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Edward Wurth

Funeral services for Edward Martin Wurth of Greenville are at 10 a.m. today in St. William's Catholic Church, with Rev. Mary Philip Wurth and Rev. Oscar Diez officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.

Mr. Wurth died Wednesday in Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.

He was born July 16, 1925, in McCracken County, Paducah, Ky., to Ivo Joseph and Mary Hobbs Wurth. He married Billie Baldree on Aug. 13, 1946, in Paducah. He served in the Army during World War II, and was a retired letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service.

Mr. Wurth was a member of St. William's Catholic Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and he was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians.

Survivors include his wife, of Greenville; two daughters, Cindy Ware of Greenville and Jacqueline Kennedy of Dallas; a brother, Ivo Wurth Jr. of Paducah, Ky.; two sisters, Elizabeth Harris of Louisville, Ky., and Barbara Felts of Paducah; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister and a daughter.

Pallbearers are Aaron Hall, Jonathan Jeter, Stan Marak, Bennie Cegelski, Gary Wurth, Laura Hall, Heather Scott, James Dorman and Walter Wurth.

Arrangements are under the direction of Peters Funeral Home.

Wilbern Beard

LONE OAK - Wilbern "W.E." Beard, 69, of Lone Oak, died Tuesday at Oaks Manor Nursing Home after a short illness. Services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at Lone Oak Community Church with Rev. Eugene Green officiating. Burial is at noon in the Oaklawn Cemetery, Cooper.

He was born July 28, 1929 in Turkey to Harm T. and Nettie P. Lindsey Beard. On Sept. 11, 1963 he married Melba Ray Johnson in Greenville.

Mr. Beard was a driver for Central & Merchants Freight Lines. He was a member of the Christian Worship Center in Campbell and the Masonic Lodge. He lived in Cooper, Greenville and Lone Oak most of his life.

Surviving are his wife; sons Jerry, Bobby and Harold Beard of New Iberia, La.; stepson Henry Adkins of Lone Oak; a daughter, Ruby Beard of New Iberia, La.; two sisters, Christine Wright of Mesquite and Valma Stokley of Dallas and several grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, a daughter and a brother, Woodard Beard in 1945.

Bartley Funeral Home of Lone Oak is in charge of arrangements.

Elna Wooten

Elna "Vernie" Wooten, 76, of Greenville died Wednesday at Wilson-Jones Hospital in Sherman. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Neil Clayton officiating. Burial is in Celeste Cemetery.

Born in McKinney on Oct. 18, 1921, she was the daughter of Thomas J. Blankenship and Ida Mae Broome Blankenship. She and Winfred Earl Wooten were married Jan. 8, 1942 in McKinney. Mrs. Wooten retired from T.G.&Y Department Store. She was a member of the Church of Christ.

She is survived by four sons, Col. (Ret.) Randall Wooten of Huntington Beach, Calif., Tim Wooten of Greenville, James Wooten of Plano and Jon Wooten of Sanger; two daughters, Polly Langford of Emory and Molly Jacks of Greenville; a brother-in-law, Paul Wooten of Denison; four sisters-in-law, Lucy Luttrell of Greenville, Ruth Currin of Greenville, Winona Foley of Garland and Martha Campbell of Mount Pleasant; 16 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband on May 23, 1995; three brothers and five sisters.

Pallbearers are Bob Edwards, Charles Jaco, Wayne Gilmore, Scott Smith, Cecil Ingram and Raymond Ward. Honorary pallbearers will be Lonnie Ray, Bill Currin and Paul Wooten.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Edward Wurth

Funeral services for Edward Martin Wurth of Greenville are at 10 a.m. Friday in St. William's Catholic Church, with Rev. Mary Philip Wurth and Rev. Oscar Diez officiating.

A rosary will be recited today at 7 p.m. in St. William's, with Deacon Lee Davis officiating.

Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.

Opal Goen

Opal Betty Goen, 92, of Greenville died Tuesday. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Kyle Goen and Greg Fields officiating. Burial is in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Caddo Mills.

She was born in Erath County on Jan. 6, 1906 to John W. Roberts and Laura Eva Thornton Roberts. She and Everett L. Goen Sr. were married Nov. 11, 1921 in Greenville. She was a member of First Baptist Church, several church groups and Woodmen of the World.

Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Otha Goen and Bessie Goen of Houston; two daughters and sons-in-law, Juanita and Jim Flanagan of Greenville and Carolyn and Woody Woodworth of Greenville; two sisters-in-law, Mittie Roberts and Susan Roberts, both of Greenville; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 4, 1943; sons, Everett L. Goen Jr. and William Glenn Goen Sr.; three brothers and two sisters.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Jo Ann Hooten

POINT - Jo Ann Hooten, 51, of Point, died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Baptist Church in Point with Rev. Gene Witt officiating. Burial is in Lone Star Cemetery.

The daughter of Les and Viola Little Dodson, she was born Dec. 19, 1946 in Rains County. She was a housewife and a member of the First Baptist Church in Point.

She is survived by her mother of Point; two sons, Rodney Wallace and Dannan Wallace, both of Emory; two daughters, Paullee Gowin and Sheena Hooten, both of Point and three sisters, Cleta Hooten and Margie Carpenter of Point and Bobbie Underwood of Cash.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hooten, in 1995 and two granddaughters.

Pallbearers are Leslie Dennie, Keith Dennie, Marty Hooten, Craig Underwood, Doug Underwood and Steve Taylor.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Point LyBrand Funeral Home.

Mack Martin

CASA GRANDE, Ariz. - Mack "Gable" Martin of Casa Grande, Ariz., a former Greenville resident, died Thursday in a Phoenix, Ariz. hospital. Funeral services are today.

He was born March 12, 1925 in Henderson, son of Robert and Mary J. Martin.

Surviving are daughters Lorriane Venters of Greenville, Mary Willis of Dallas, and Tammy Martin of Casa Grande, Ariz.; sons Kenneth Patterson of Greenville and Derrick Martin, Phillip Martin and Mack Martin of Arizona; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a son.

Cole-Mudie Mortuary of Casa Grande is in charge of arrangements.

Pearly Moore

COMMERCE - Pearly Pauline Moore, 78, of Dallas died Monday in Dallas. Graveside services are at 11 a.m. today at Rosemound Cemetery with Rev. Mike House officiating.

Mrs. Moore was born Dec. 12, 1919, in Peniel; the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lester McVay. A Baptist, she was a former Commerce resident.

Surviving are a son, James Moore of Garland; and grandchildren, Kenny Bishop and James Moore, both of Dallas, Tim Rich of Commerce and Jeanine Moore of Garland.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Rich, in 1974.

Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m. today at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home, which is in charge of the arrangements.

Weldon Call

LADONIA- Weldon Ray Call of Ladonia died Saturday evening at Northeast Medical Center in Bonham. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Ladonia with Rev. Al Simms and Rev. Bob Posey officiating. Burial will be in the Ladonia Cemetery.

He was born April 22, 1920 in Fannin County to Luther Elmer and Ruby Marie Brown Call. He and Mary McSherry were married Dec. 23, 1951. Mr. Call was a retired truck driver and had been a resident of Ladonia for the past ten years.

Survivors include his wife of Ladonia; his mother of Ladonia; two sons, Weldon Len Call of Alvin and Allen Ray Call of Ladonia; three daughters, Lelane Enochs and Kathy Belinowski, both of Ladonia and Penny Diane Bradshaw of Alvin; three brothers, J.T. Call of Ladonia, Harry L. Call of Quitman and Orville Oneal Call of Austin; two sisters, Jerry Simms of New Castle, Wyo. and Peggy Jean Klien of Mineola; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Delta Funeral Home in Ladonia.

Reed Carney

SMITHVILLE - Reed H. Carney of Smithville, formerly of Greenville, died Friday in Smithville after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Private services are in Smithville.

He was born Oct. 19, 1920 in MerRouge, La. and grew up in Oklahoma, graduating from Soper High School in 1938. He received an A.A. degree from Murray State College in Tishamingo, Okla. He served in the Oklahoma National Guard and mobilized with the 45th Division in 1940. He transferred to the Army Air Corp in 1942.

Mr. Carney was a bomber pilot during World War II, flying a B-26 in the North African theater of war. After a battle injury, he was awarded the Purple Heart in 1943. In September 1943 he married Mary Jo Hufstedler of Dallas.

He remained in the Air Force after the war, rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He retired from the Air Force in 1966 after 27 years and started a second career with E-Systems, Inc. of Greenville. He was a resident of Greenville until 1996.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Carolyn Carney of Arlington; a son, Ted Quitta-Carney of Smithville; five grandchildren and five brothers and their families.
