COMMERCE - Thelma Smith Middlebrooks, 90, of Greenville died Tuesday. Funeral services are today at 11 a.m. at Pemberton Funeral Home Chapel in Commerce with Rev. Roy Truesdell officiating. Burial is in Rosemound Cemetery.
She was born July 21, 1908 in Hunt County to James Emmett Smith and Rosa Ella Burnett. She was married to Herman Onon Middlebrooks on Dec. 3, 1927 in Commerce.
She moved from Dallas to Greenville in July 1997 after retiring from Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at Southern Methodist University where she was house director for 28 years. She was a member of the Tyler Street United Methodist Church in Dallas.
Mrs. Middlebrooks was also a member of Home Demonstration Club and was Past Worthy Matron of the Eastern Star.
Surviving are a sister, Juanita Morgan of Greenville; a sister-in-law, Myrle Smith of Midland and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1967, two brothers and two sisters.
Honorary pallbearers are former fraternity members of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity at SMU, Jim Kizer, Cecil Hanes and Wayland Dearing.
Carol Tolan
QUINLAN - Carol Lynn Tolan, 47, of Lone Oak died Tuesday in Dallas. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday at the Quinlan LyBrand Funeral Home Chapel with Jacqueline Harmon officiating. Burial is in Hooker Ridge Cemetery in Lone Oak.
The daughter of Jack Tolan and Charlotte Garrett, she was born Sept. 7, 1951 in Fort Worth. She was a member of Lone Oak United Methodist Church and was a member of Association for Retarded Citizens.
She is survived by her mother and three sisters, Christi Watkins of Dallas, Kelsey Chester and Shelby Chester of Grand Saline.
Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Leon Nelson
LONE OAK - Leon W. Nelson of Lone Oak died Tuesday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 3 p.m. today at Lone Oak Assembly of God Church with Rev. Danny Calk and Rev. O.J. Andrews officiating. Burial will be in Miller Grove Cemetery.
He was born May 22, 1911 in Edmond, Okla. Mr. Nelson served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in October 1945. He worked for Robertson Steel for 28 years. He was a member of the Lone Oak Seniors Citizens Club.
Surviving are stepson Tony Hargis of Lone Oak; three stepdaughters, Janie File of Lone Oak and Juanita Taylor and Geneal Faulkner of Oklahoma City, Okla.; a brother, Olen Nelson of Jones, Okla. and ten grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Lumly and his second wife, Rosa Hargis Nelson.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Dallas Peters Jr.
Dallas Montell Peters Jr., 56, of Wolfe City died Sunday at his residence. There will be a graveside service at 3 p.m. Thursday at Webb Hill Cemetery with Rev. Eldon Chester officiating.
Born in Urbana, Ill. on Jan. 16, 1943, he was the son of Dallas Montell Peters and Marjorie Basden Peters. He and Betty Hiers were married in December 1969 in Newport Richey, Fla. Mr. Peters served in the Army Reserves.
He was a graduate of Indiana University where he attended on a golf scholarship. He was a member of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, Quail Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited, the North American Elk Foundation and the National Walking Dog Association.
Survivors include his wife of Wolfe City; his father of Champaign, Ill.; sons Dallas M. Peters III of Greenville, William Brent Currier of The Woodlands, Gordon M. Currier III of Ardmore, Okla. and Gregory M. Currier of Newport Beach, Calif.; a daughter, Diane Russo of Lawton, Mass. and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 1996.

CANTON - Jack Butler of Ben Wheeler died Sunday at Hospice Home Place in Tyler following a long illness. Funeral services are at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Eubank Funeral Home Chapel in Canton with Rev. Carlton Young officiating. Burial is in Haven of Memories Memorial Park.
The son of John Edward and Lovie Ethel Burnett Butler, he was born Jan. 8, 1928 in Dallas. He was raised in Oklahoma on a farm. He served in the U.S. Army in Turkey and Korea.
Mr. Butler played guitar in several bands, one of which was Slim and the Wondering Boys. He was an accountant for Strickland Freight Lines. He lived most of his adult life in Dallas and had moved to Ben Wheeler several years ago.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Anita Marie Butler of Ben Wheeler; three sons, Dale Butler of Fort Worth, Larry Bowdish of Kalamazoo, Mich. and Thomas A. Bowdish of Carrollton; three daughters, Patricia Ann Simpkins of Coplay, Penn., Dianne Bowdish of Van Nuys, Calif. and Patricia Batsell of Rowlett; two sisters, Frances Behrens of Colleyville and Ella Mae Campbell of Bonham; five grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Juanita Blankenship and a brother, John E. Butler.
Pallbearers are Thomas A. Bowdish, Larry Bowdish, Dale Butler, John Batsell, Charles Behrens and Bill Saxton, and Roy Williams will be honorary pallbearer.

David Lee Morgan of Durant, Okla. died March 17 in a Durant hospital. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home Chapel with Roy Price officiating. Burial is in Grundy Cemetery.
He was born April 15, 1955 in Greenville to John and Lacy Carter Morgan. Mr. Morgan was a construction worker and a member of River of Life Christian Fellowship in Durant.
He is survived by his wife, Nell Morgan of Durant, Okla.; his mother, Lacy Lucky of Caddo Mills; three sons, David Morgan and Bubba Morgan of Durant, Okla. and Andrae Morgan of Brookston; a daughter, Antonette Morgan of Durant, Okla.; grandmother, Luberter Carter of Greenville; two brothers, Douglas Morgan and George Morgan of Caddo Mills; two sisters, Betty Morgan of Arlington and Debra Toliver of Caddo Mills and two grandchildren.
His father and one brother preceded him in death.

Opal Payne
MOUNT PLEASANT - Opal Payne, 91, of the Chapel Hill community near Mount Pleasant died at Curry Nursing Home in Mount Pleasant Sunday. Funeral services are at 2:30 p.m. today at Bates-Cooper-Robison Funeral Home south of Mount Pleasant with Leon Goff and Larry Bilbo officiating. Burial is in East New Hope Cemetery.
Born March 15, 1908 near Russellville, Ark., she was the daughter of Joe E. and Rose Ward Coates. Her family moved to Titus County in 1915. She married Rufus T. Payne in 1926 and they settled on the Payne Farm in the Chapel Hill community.
Mrs. Payne was a housewife and worked the family farm and a dairy with her husband. She was a seamstress who worked for the public during the Depression and she was a 50-year member of the Women's Home Demonstration Club and was an active 4-H leader for many years.
Mrs. Payne was very active in the Chapel Hill School PTA. She was a member of the Southside Church of Christ in Mount Pleasant.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, George and Wilma Payne of Chapel Hill and Paul and Ophelia Payne of Paris; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Lelda Thompson of Chapel Hill, Frances and Walter Benton of Greenville and Reba and Larry Dehls of Plano; 18 grandchildren, Linda Thompson Kitchens of Umpire, Ark., Gaylon Thompson, Mike Thompson, Debbie Thompson Williams and Karen Payne Huffines of the Chapel Hill community, Bobby Benton of Double Oak, RoxeAnn Benton Patterson and Christy Benton Henderson of Greenville, Lloyd Benton of Quinlan, Billy Thompson of Pasadena, Scott Payne of Mesquite, Larry Thompson of Harriman, Tenn., Denise Dehls Underhill of Krum, Craig Dehls of Killeen, Carl Dehls of Plano, Melissa Payne Prince of San Antonio, Todd Dehls of Fort Worth and Brian Payne of Austin; 35 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Reba Wright of Dallas and a brother, Cleatus Coates of Mount Pleasant.

Blake Richardson
BELLS - Funeral services for Blake Randall Richardson, 18, of Bells are at 4 p.m. today at the Bells High School Gymnasium with Rev. Brian McPherson, pastor of Munger Place United Methodist Church in Dallas, Rev. Tommy Richardson and Jerry Reynolds officiating. Burial is in the family cemetery on Whiting Road in Bells.
Mr. Richardson died Saturday near Bells in an automobile accident.
He was born May 18, 1980 in Sherman. A 1998 graduate of Bells High School, he was attending Grayson County College. He was a fisherman and outdoorsman. He was a member of First United Methodist Church.
Surviving are his parents Sharon and Steve Whiting of Bells and Robert Randall and Amelie Richardson of Sherman; two sisters, Ashley Richardson of Bells and Sammy Whiting Hicks and husband Brian of Bells; brothers Bobby Richardson of Sherman Hadley Whiting of Bells and Jason Young of Sherman; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sivley of Greenville, Mr. and Mrs. J.H. Mr. Tucker was born Oct. 29, 1938, in Jones Prairie; the son of Theo Ross and Julia Roden Tucker. He married Glenda Barger on June 10, 1972, in Fate.
Mr. Tucker was a maintenance foreman for Truman Arnold Company and had worked for 30 years as a parts manager for General Motors Corporation. He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Surviving are his wife of Caddo Mills; daughters, Carolyn Thomas of Denison, Glynda Washington of Shreveport, La.; Betty Wilburn of Dallas and Julia Sanders of Forney; sons, Benjy Tucker, Bryan Tucker and Eugene Tucker, all of Terrell; sister, Julia Graham of Caddo Mills; and 14 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Billy Tucker; and two brothers.

Born July 16, 1909 in Sulphur Springs, she was the daughter of J.B. Hennen and Lela Byrd. She married Lloyd Elbert Wall in Greenville on Nov. 20, 1933.
Mrs. Wall worked at the Kress' store and she was a homemaker. She was a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1983 and two sisters, Annie Walker and Oma Pierson.

Ozell Wright
Ozell Hart Wright, 94, of Greenville died Saturday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Riley Hamilton officiating. Burial is in Wieland Cemetery.
Mrs. Wright was born July 21, 1904, in Wieland; the daughter of Kit Carson and Beulah Pearce Hart. She was married to Henry S. Wright in 1925 in Greenville.
Mrs. Wright was a school teacher and counselor. She was a member of Highland Terrace Baptist Church and Oleta Kelly's Sunday School class. She was an artist.
Surviving are sons, Henry S. Wright Jr. of Canyon Lake and John Hart Wright of Jacksonville, Ala.; grandchildren, Michael Wright and Patrick Wright, both of Houston, and Amanda Wright and Nathan Wright, both of Dallas; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Jack Ellis of Lubbock.
She is also survived by several friends and caregivers, including the nursing staff at Greenville Health and Rehabilitation, Dora Lucero and family, Betty Hargrow, the nursing staff at Presbyterian Hospital and Greenville Hospice; Dr. Dee McCrary and the members of her Sunday school class.
Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her husband, five brothers and six sisters.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
