CUMBY - James Neal Strickland, 60, of Cumby died Tuesday at his residence. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Cumby with Rev. Wes Dean officiating. Burial will be in the Cumby Cemetery.
The son of R.L. and Connie Opal McFarland Strickland, he was born March 30, 1939 in Cumby. He married Mary Ann Brand on Aug. 8, 1958 in Cumby.
Mr. Strickland was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cumby. He was an original founder and lifetime member of the Cumby Fire Department and he was a former mayor of Cumby. Mr. Strickland was a general contractor.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Ronald Neal, James Barry and Jeffrey Dean Strickland, all of Cumby; a daughter, Linda Darlene Hammons of Cumby; two brothers, Chester Hugh Strickland of Ropesville and Charles Dean "Alley" Strickland of Wichita Falls; a sister, Bettie Lou Tuggle of Cumby and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Lester and Delton Ray Strickland and an infant brother.
Pallbearers are Travis Baxley, Tony Stephenson, Johnny Powell, Roy Steward, Bill Scroggins, Skipper Hurley, Jim Crump and Harley Moore. Honorary pallbearers are Cumby Fire Department members, Marlon Jones, Bobby Mathews, Bud Cline, Bill Jenkins and Mike Morgan.
Memorials may be made to the Hopkins County Memorial Hospital Hospice or the Cumby Cemetery Association.

FARMERSVILLE - Dorothy Claire "Dot" Wright, 94, of Farmersville died Tuesday at Homestead Nursing Home in McKinney. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Fielder-Baker Funeral Home Chapel in Farmersville with Rev. Bill Booher officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Princeton.
Born Aug. 6, 1904 in Climax, she was the daughter of Allie and Maude Gotcher Jackson. She married Walter W. Skinny Wright. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Wright was a member of Snow Hill Baptist Church.
She is survived by sisters Lucille McCormick of Farmersville and Madonna Osborne of Forney and nieces and nephews.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Clarence O. Clifton
FARMERSVILLE - Clarence O. Clifton, 86, of Farmersville died Friday at Hinton Nursing Home in Farmersville. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Princeton with Rev. Rick Ballard officiating.
Mr. Clifton was born April 7, 1913 in Farmersville, the son of Tinsley O. and Annie Welborn Clifton. He married Dora "Toad" Hickman Sept. 12, 1931 in Farmersville. He was a carpenter and a farmer.
Survivors include his wife, Dora "Toad" Clifton of Farmersville; two sisters, Lorene Moore of Fort Worth and Ester Baker of Granbury; and a brother, Bill Clifton of Garland.

Floy Greer
VALDASTA - Floy Cora Greer, 83, of Valdasta died Friday at the North Central Medical Center in McKinney. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. today at the Blue Ridge Church of Christ with Rev. Bill James officiating. Burial will be in Stoney Point Cemetery.
Mrs. Greer was born in Valdasta, the daughter of James and Alice Cantrell Alexander. She married Lester Greer on Sept. 16, 1933 in Farmersville. She was a waitress at Cattlemen's Cafe in Blue Ridge and a homemaker. She was a member of the Valdasta Church of Christ.
Survivors include a son, Lanny Greer of McKinney and two grandchildren.

Lanora House
Lanora House, 84, of Greenville died Friday at Presbyterian Hospital in Greenville. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Scott R. McManus officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery in Cooper.
Mrs. House was born June 9, 1914 in McCruery, the daughter of Barney Bryant and Ida Janette Hollingshead Bryant. She was a housewife.
Survivors include a son, James Ottinger of Alaska; a daughter, Lynetta Cook of Greenville; three brothers, Roy Bryant of Oklahoma, Harold Bryant of Tyler, and Verlon Bryant of Crandall; a sister, Stella Mankins of Bogota; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam House, in Dec. 1991.

Mr. Steinley died Friday in Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.
He was born Feb. 20, 1931, in Shattuck, Okla., to William and Thresa Klein Steinley. He married Betty Zirkle on June 18, 1950, in Clayton, N.M. A resident of Greenville since 1965, he was retired from E-Systems as a sheet metal worker.
Survivors include his wife, of Greenville; sons and daughters-in-law Randy and Kelley Steinley of Spring, Robby and Anita Steinley of Quinlan; a brother, Bob Steinley and his wife Louise of Woodward, Okla.; sisters Ruth Allen, Rachel Miner, both of Laverne, Okla., Carolyn and C.D. Swain of Derby, Kan., and Daurice and Bob Fiel of Shattuck, Okla.; grandchildren Samantha Steinley and Joey Steinley of Spring, Michelle Bumgarner and husband Johnathan of Austin, and Douglas Steinley of Missouri; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Darrell Steinley and Rusty Steinley.
Dorothy Edwards
Dorothy Gylene Edwards, 68, of Greenville died Thursday in Greenville Health and Rehabilitation Center. No services are planned.
She was born April 16, 1931, in Pecan Gap, the daughter of Guy H. and Evie Ross Edwards. She was a retired communications analyst for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company and Rockwell Corporation of Richardson and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.
Surviving her are a brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Ethel Edwards of Greenville.
She was preceded in death by her parents.

Franklin Eubanks
QUINLAN - Memorial services for Franklin Leon Eubanks of Quinlan will be at 11 a.m. today in Quinlan Funeral Chapel.
Mr. Eubanks died Wednesday in Greenville.
He was born in Green County, Arkansas, to Frank and Pearlie Lee Morrow Eubanks. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Vietnam, and was employed in drywall construction.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Sue Eubanks of Quinlan; three sons, Bryan Lee Eubanks, Steven Wayne Eubanks and Donald Eubanks, all of Quinlan; a brother, Kenneth Eubanks of Deltona, Fla.; sisters, Elizabeth Dennis of Tuckerman, Ark., Vera Driver, Louise Driver and Neva Diabaj, all of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.
Travis E. Holley
SULPHUR SPRINGS - Funeral services for Travis E. Holley, 83, of Sulphur Springs will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in West Oaks Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Fred Lewis and Dr. David Hardage officiating.
Burial will be in Rosemound Cemetery in Commerce.
Mr. Holley died Friday afternoon in Hopkins County Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 10, 1915, in Hunt County to John H. and Winnie Ophelia Young Holley. He served with the U.S. Army in World War II, and married Mildred Pauline "Polly" Luckey in 1946 in Waco. He was a retired line crew foreman with TU Electric, retiring in 1978 after 42 years with the company. He had resided in Sulphur Springs since 1990 and was a member of First Baptist Church, the Busy Men's Bible Class and Bruton Conner Masonic Lodge in Dallas.
Mr. Holley is survived by a sister, Jean Corbin of Sulphur Springs.
He was preceded in death by his wife on March 30, 1999, four sisters and two brothers.
Pallbearers will be Greg Luckey, Terry France, Vernon Davis, Bill Deaton, Charles Charles and Don Deaton. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Radio Bible Class of First Baptist Church.
No formal visitation is planned but friends may call at the funeral home from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, and from 9 a.m. Sunday until shortly before the service.
Beatrice Murphy
WOLFE CITY - Funeral services for Beatrice Murphy of Wolfe City will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in Yeager Chapel CME Church, with Rev. C. Darty officiating.
Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Mrs. Murphy died Thursday in a Bonham hospital.
She was born April 9, 1911, in Pecan Gap to William and Mamie Williams Payne. She married Willie Murphy in 1941 in Fannin County. She was a homemaker and a member of Yeager Chapel CME Church.
Survivors include seven daughters, Vertle Brown, Mary Frances Murphy, Ethel Mae Murphy, Willie M. Armstrong, Vera Ramerize, Wanda J. Murphy, Catherine Murphy, all of Wolfe City; a brother, Willie Payne of Tucson, Ariz.; a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two daughters, two sisters and three brothers.

Mr. Shanks died Thursday in Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.
He was born Aug. 13, 1936, in Hunt County to Phinas Owen and Ella Mae Spoonemore Shanks. He married Sue Whitehead on Dec. 9, 1961, in Hugo, Okla., and was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He had been self-employed and was retired.
Survivors include his wife, of Greenville; daughter and son-in-law Stephanie and Mark Lamm of Celeste, daughter Staci Shanks and her fiance, Cliff Prier of Carrollton; brothers John Shanks of Greenville and Newman Shanks of Eunice, N.M.; sisters Rosalyn McKay of Ben Wheeler, Mary Lou Shields of Cash and Peggy Baise of Miller Grove; a granddaughter, Maisie Lamm.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

James Brown
GARLAND - Memorial services for James M. Brown of Heath will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. today in New Liberty Baptist Church, 333 W. Centerville Road, with Rev. Ken Ashlock officiating. Burial is in Blue Bonnet Hills Cemetery, 5801 Colleyville Boulevard, in Colleyville.
Mr. Brown died Wednesday.
He was born Nov. 30, 1934, in the Durham Community near Wolfe City to Herbert M. and Eva Mae Fields Brown. He married Bonnie Kemp in 1961 and she preceded him in death in 1986. In 1993 he married Gwendolyn Shaw.
Mr. Brown was associated with the Farmers Insurance Group for 36 years. He owned the James M. Brown Farmers Insurance Agency in Garland and received many awards including the Farmers President's Council, member of the Farmers Topper Production Club and Recognition of Excellence in Sales Leadership.
He was a member of Garland Chamber of Commerce, National Federation of Independent Businesses and New Liberty Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Gwen, sister and brother-in-law Juanita and Dale Maples of Dallas; brother and sister-in-law Bobby and Donna Brown of Wolfe City; sister-in-law Oleta Brown of Ladonia; stepsons Richard Orvis, David Orvis, Christopher DeGraeve and Scott DeGraeve; mother-in-law Connie Shaw; brother-in-law Jerry Stepping of Oreana, Ill., and Dennis Shaw of South Bend, Ind..
He was preceded in death by his first wife; his parents; a brother, Albert R. Brown and a sister, Azel Mae Clark.
Lillian Carpenter
COMMERCE - Funeral services for Lillian B. Carpenter, 82, of Sulphur Springs, are at 2 p.m. Saturday in Jones Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in Cumby.
Mrs. Carpenter died Thursday in Wood Haven Nursing Home in Sulphur Springs.
She was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Stratford, Okla., to Holton Dewitt Barrett and Nellie Butler Barrett. She married Reginald Carpenter on Nov. 12, 1938, in Campbell. She was a nurses' aide and a member of Cumby United Methodist Church.
Surviving are four sisters, June Mathews, Ruby Smith, Merle McCarty, all of Sulphur Springs, and Wanda Alexander of Shirley; two brothers, Loyd Thomas of Cumby and Gene Barrett of Sulphur Springs; and a brother-in-law, Richard Carpenter of Sulphur Springs.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Dec. 1, 1969, three brothers and two sisters.
Pallbearers are nephews.
Family visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today in Jones-Walker and Son Funeral Home.
Leslie Davis
Funeral services for Leslie James "L.J." Davis of Greenville will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Pilgrim Tabernacle Church of Deliverance, with Wesley D. Pierce officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery.
Mr. Davis died May 15 in a Dallas hospital.
He was born June 19, 1937, in Greenville to Jessie J. and Lessie Brigham Davis. He married Pearlie Dixon on Feb. 9, 1973, in Greenville. He was a construction worker and a member of Pilgrim Tabernacle Church.
Surviving are his wife, of Greenville; two sons, Charles Davis of Greenville and Leslie J. Davis Jr. of Dallas; four stepsons, Percy Anderson of Dallas, Hurbert Anderson, Larry Anderson, of Greenville and Melvin Anderson of Rowlett; a daughter, Charolette Davis of Greenville; five stepdaughters, Helen Fisher, Brenda Sampson, Emma Nelson, Marylin Reed, Fay Henning; six brothers, Tommy Davis, John Davis, Rev. Ronald Davis, Bobby Lee Davis, Bill Ray Davis, Tommie E. Davis; nine sisters, Velma Smith, Emma McKinzie, Mary Thomas, Linda Caldwell, Billie J.
