CADDO MILLS - Rena Joyce Lester, 56, of Caddo Mills died Sunday at her residence. There is a memorial service at 7 p.m. today at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 3114 Terrell Road, in Greenville.
She had worked as a secretary for the City of Greenville, at E-Systems and at the Teacher's Credit Union in Fort Worth.
Surviving are her mother, Catherine Shugart of Greenville; her father, Marshall Lester of Fort Worth; brother Gary Lester of Minnesota; sisters Sharon Hughes of Monte Vista, Colo., Linda Addington of Fort Worth and Karen Bishop of New Orleans, La. and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Minnie Merideth
Minnie Law Jenkins Abbott Merideth, 95, of Bells, formerly of Greenville; Tucson, Ariz.; Coleman, Commerce and Lake Tawakoni, died Monday at her residence. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robbie Caldwell officiating. Burial is in Forest Park Cemetery.
The daughter of John William Jenkins and LeNorah Kitching Jenkins, she was born in Hooker Ridge near Lone Oak on July 14, 1904. She married Roy Columbus Abbott on March 26, 1923 in Greenville; he preceded her in death in 1955. She married Victor Merideth in June 1986 in Greenville and he died in 1993.
She was a homemaker and worked as a cook for Dr. Phillip's Hospital in Greenville and nursing homes in Bells and Tucson, Ariz. She was a Baptist and a member of Eastern Star.
She is survived by a son, Derwood Columbus Abbott of Henderson; four daughters, Juanita Jackson of Coleman, Wilma Strickland of Tucson, Ariz., Wanda Greer of Commerce and Doris Pearson of Tyler; 17 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; a son, Wayne Abbott in 1996 and a grandson, Tracy Greer.
Tommy Nolen
EMORY - Tommy Nolen, 58, of Point died Monday at his home. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Cook officiating. Burial is in Hooker Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Nolen was born Jan. 21, 1941; the son of Willie Joe and Lucille Allred Nolen. He married Dorothy Nichol on Feb. 15, 1963, in Dallas. He was a plumber and an electrician.
Surviving are his former wife; son, Darrell Nolen of Tampa, Fla.; daughter, Rhonda Thomas of Plano; brothers, Joe Nolen of Garland and Bobby Nolen of Washington; and one grandson.
Pallbearers are Kelly Nolen, Larry Nolen, Gerald Porter, Michael Cox, Robert Robb and Joe Bob Cason. Honorary pallbearers are James Smart and Danny Rabe.

Willie Powell
COMMERCE - Willie Mac Powell, 88, of Weatherford, died Tuesday. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday at Pemberton Funeral Home Chapel with David Gibson officiating. Burial is in Rosemound Cemetery.
Born in Klondike on Sept. 24, 1910, she was the daughter of C.J. Stevenson and Ethel McCaleb. She married Wesley Horace Powell on Feb. 24, 1938 in Dallas. Mrs. Powell was a former resident of Greenville and Commerce and moved to Weatherford in 1991 to be near relatives. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Surviving are a son, John Wesley Powell of Weatherford; two stepdaughters, Mary Etta Breakiron of Commerce and Eileen Pettit of Arlington; two sisters, Miriam Stephens of Greenville and Ethelynn Stringer of Commerce; seven grandchildren; 11 stepgrandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren and several stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in April 1964, two brothers and two sisters.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Jo Ann Ratcliff
EMORY - Jo Ann Ratcliff, 67, of Emory died Monday at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. today at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Smith officiating. Burial is in Smyrna Cemetery.
The daughter of John Henry and Irma Roach Harris, she was born Nov. 2, 1931 in Dallas. On May 30, 1950 she married Elton Ladaun Ratcliff in Rockwall. Mrs. Ratcliff was a homemaker and she was a Baptist.
She is survived by her husband of Emory; a son, Johnny Ratcliff of Wills Point; daughters Donna Taylor of Fruitvale, Pam Harden of Emory, Rhonda Lacheney of Mesquite and Lisa Frakes of Fort Worth; a brother, Tommy Martin of Garland; sisters Doris Brisson of Mesquite and Bonnie Budahali of Garland; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are David McPherson, Rodney McPherson, Jeromy Taylor, Graig Lacheney, Wayne Frakes and Chad Mott.
Carl Don Childers
WEST TAWAKONI - Carl Don Childers, 63, of West Tawakoni, died Sunday at his home. Services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bartley Funeral Home Chapel in Lone Oak with Rev. W. H. Marney officiating. Burial is in Hooker Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 11, 1936 in Rains County. He was a veteran of the United States Marines and an electrician.
Surviving are his mother, Lorne Marney Burns of Point; two daughters, Rochelle Cameron of Dallas and Rena Parks of Dallas; a brother, Larry Childers of West Tawakoni and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Lynn Childers and his father, Cecil Childers, in 1978.

BLUE RIDGE - Esta Florence Edwards, 86, of Blue Ridge died Saturday in Whitewright. There is a graveside service at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Blue Ridge Cemetery with Rev. Johnny Jones officiating.
Born in Blue Ridge on May 11, 1913, she was the daughter of Austin A. Sprouse and Ethel N. Huggins Sprouse. On Dec. 1, 1947 she married William A. Edwards in Farmersville. She worked as a nurse's aide.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Fielder-Baker Funeral Home in Blue Ridge.
Billy Houser
Billy Don Houser, 63, of Greenville died Monday at his residence. Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Royse City Cemetery. Rev. Tommy Weems will officiate.
Mr. Houser was born Nov. 7, 1935 in Josephine to A.J. "Cat" Houser and Osie Wyatt Houser. He served in the U.S. Army and was a retired combat engineer for the Army. After his retirement, he was an employee at Reneau's Art Gallery.
He is survived by his son, Rick Houser of Greenville; a sister, Eva Williamson of Greenville; sister-in-law Virgie Houser of Greenville and two grandchildren.
His parents preceded him in death.

Floyd Topping
QUINLAN - Floyd Eugene Topping, 64, of Quinlan died at his residence Sunday. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Quinlan LyBrand Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Gary Kuykendall officiating. Burial is in Crown Hill Cemetery in Dallas.
The son of Arthur and Lucy Toppings, he was born Aug. 10, 1935 in Manchester. Mr. Topping was a veteran and served in the U.S. Navy. He worked for Trinity Industries in Dallas, retiring after 40 1/2 years. He was a member of the Assembly of God.
Mr. Topping is survived by his wife, Betty Topping of Quinlan; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Patricia Topping of Quinlan; daughter and son-in-law Donna and Ricky Scoggins of Quinlan; a brother, Clyde Topping of Winnsboro; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a son.
Carl Don Childers

Hugh Hoyle Fink
LADONIA - Hugh Hoyle Fink, 75, of Ladonia, died Saturday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Delta Funeral Home Chapel in Ladonia with Joe Wishard officiating. Burial will be in the Ladonia Cemetery.
He was born May 17, 1924, in Fannin County, the son of James Bate and Louisa Williams Fink. Mr. Fink was a member of the Oakridge Church of Christ and was a veteran of the United States Army, serving with the 37th infantry during World War II and Korea, seeing action in Bougainvile and on Luzon on D-Day. He was a retired cotton ginner.
Surviving are two brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward F. and Jonnie Fink of Ladonia and Fred Glenn and florence Fink of Wolfe City.
Mary Ellis Goodwin
SAN ANTONIO - Mary Ellis Goodwin of San Antonio died Saturday in San Antonio. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mark's Episcopal Church in San Antonio with Rev. Mary Margaret Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
She was born on Nov. 11, 1911, and was a graduate of the University of New Mexico with a degree in geology. She was married to the late Col. Walter Parks Goodwin Jr., and as an United States Army family, they lived in Italy, Guatemala and Chile. Mrs. Goodwin was a member of St.Mark's Episcopal Church, Daughters of the King and St. Cecilia's Guild. She was a life master in bridge.
Surviving are her son, Walter Parks Goodwin III and wife Jill of Alpine; daughter Elizabeth Goodwin Clark of San Antonio; five grandchildren, Walter Parks Goodwin IV and wife Anne Matteson, Mary Ursula Goodwin, Amelie LaCroix Goodwin, Geoffrey Vance Clark and Craig Hardin Clark and his wife, Theresa Novak, and great-grandchildren Matteson Emma Goodwin and Dillon Scott Clark. Besides her husband, also preceding her in death was a grandson, Erroll Barton Clark.
The family asks that memorials be made to the St. Cecilia Guild of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.

Mildred Klutts
Mildred Copeland Klutts of Waco died Thursday in Waco. Graveside services will be at Blue Ridge Cemetery Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. with Rev. David Blackmon Officiating.
She was born on Dec. 18, 1907, in Blue Ridge to Paul and Sally Moyers Copeland. On May 29, 1937, she married Marshall Klutts in McKinney. She was a lifelong Methodist and a public school teacher.
Surviving are a daughter, Paula Weathers of Waco; son-in-law, Robert S. Weathers of Waco; an aunt, Wilma Copeland Cathey of McKinney and a sister-in-law, Ruth Bewley Copeland of McKinney. She was preceded in death by her husband, a brother, Hoyt Copeland of McKinney, and a sister, Marie Bourland of Blue Ridge.
The family requests donations be made to Kavanaugh United Methodist Church or an organization of choice that supplies college scholarships to indigent students.

EMORY - Maureta Rackley Rollins, 75, of Emory died Saturday in Grand Saline. Services will be at 10 a.m. today at Wilson-Orwasky Chapel with Rev. Billy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Emory City Cemetery.
She was born on Jan. 22, 1924, to Troy and Fleda Williams Rackley. She married Raymond Ray Rollins in Rains County in 1960. She was a Baptist.
Surviving are a son, Lennis W. Young of Richland Hills; daughters Rhonda Rabb of Emory and Rita Hughes of Emory; brothers Thomas O. Childers of Emory and Frank Rackley; sister Jeanine Rackley; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her step-father, Ade Childrens, and her mother.
Ruby Smith
COMMERCE - Ruby Sockwell Smith, 99, of Commerce, died Saturday in Commerce. Services will be at First United Methodist Church in Pecan Gap Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Rev. Steven Bell and Maggie Winburn officiating. Burial will be in Pecan Gap Cemetery.
She was born in Fannin County on Feb. 27, 1999, to James Thomas and Willie Maude Day. She married C.W. Smith in Kingfisher, Okla. Mrs. Smith, who moved to Commerce from Paris a year ago, studied at Wesley College, Scarrett College in Nashville and East Texas Normal College and received her bachelor of arts degree from East Texas State University in 1932. She taught school in Pecan Gap and Galveston and was a member of the Retired Teachers Association. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Paris.
Surviving are sisters Grace Avery of Honey Grove and Tomy Wilhite of Pecan Gap and brothers Bill Sockwell of North Little Rock, Ark., and Wayne Sockwell of Dallas. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1973 and five sisters, Mattie McDonnold, Thelma Lay, Gladys Fielding, Mozelle Massad and Faye Richardson.

Brea Spencer
PARIS - Brea Naydene Spencer, 22 of Sumner died Saturday from injuries suffered in an automibile accident. Services will be at 1 p.m. today at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home with David Ballard officiating.
She was born on March 30, 1977, in Plano, the daughter of Gary and Deborah Cobb Spencer. She attended school at North Lamar. She was owner and operator of Spencer's Highway 79 Diner and a member of Rowlett Baptist Church.
Surviving are her parents; a sister, Adrienne Johnson and niece Emily Johnson of the Hopewell community; and grandparents George and Harlan Spencer of Paris, Mrs. Joy Cummings of Bonham and Mr. and Mrs. John Cobb of Quinlan.
Faye Totsch
Faye Manning Totsch, 100, of Greenville died Saturday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. William Benner officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.
She was born in Greenville on Oct. 28, 1898, the daughter of John M. and Mary Ann Coulson Carsey. She married Joe Manning and he preceded her in death in 1940. She married Lester Totsch and he died in 1984. She was a Baptist.
Surviving are sons Joe Manning Jr., of Houston and Carsey Manning of Houston; a daughter, Cynthia Manning Joost of Cypress Mills; a brother, Eban Carsey of Del Rio; 13 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.
Pallbearers will be Joe Manning IV, Jim Manning, E.J. Joost, John Carsey Joost, David Manning, Jay Manning and Miles Manning. Honorary pallbearers are Jan Joost Legg, Mary Ann Joost Whisenhunt, Nancy Manning Reese, Molly Manning Carpenter, Cathy Manning Stone, Nicki Manning Connor.

Otis Davis
QUINLAN - Services for Otis "Dave" Davis, 81, of Quinlan, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Restland Abbey Chapel in Dallas with Rev. Larry Tinsley officiating. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park. He died Friday.
Born May 22, 1918, he was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Corps. He was wounded in the attack on Pearl Harbor. He graduated from Southern Methodist University with a Business degree. He worked at Huey & Phillips Hardware as a buyer for 34 years. He was an active member of First Methodist Church of Quinlan.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Dorothy Davis, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Myra Ramsey
DALLAS - Services for Myra Sudduth Ramsey, 82, of Dallas, will be 10 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Caddo Mills with Rev. Trey Lancaster and Rev. Roger Ratliff officiating. Burial will be in Grove Hill Memorial Park in Dallas. She died Friday in Dallas.
Born on Feb. 18, 1917, in Moores Bridge, Ala., she was the daughter of Emmitt T. Sudduth and Alma Gilliland Sudduth. She was a former member of Circle Wood Baptist Church in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Colonial Baptist Church in Dallas and formerly Caddo Mills Baptist Church.
She married Jesse A. (Jack) Ramsey on March 19, 1937 in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Survivors include her husband, Jack Ramsey; son, Boyd Ramsey; daughter Alma (Tina) Allen; brothers, Ralph, Jack and Rev. Lindbergh Sudduth; sisters, Celesta Wilson and Sue Campbell; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Troy Suggs Funeral Home in Dallas, which is in charge of arrangements.
