Georgia Carpenter of Dallas died August 6 at a Lancaster hospital. Funeral services are at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Freeman Chapel Baptist Church in Quitman with Rev. Marvin Hollis officiating. Burial is in Freeman Chapel Cemetery.
Born in Quitman on Sept. 2, 1923, she was the daughter of Bosie and Carrie Reed Kelley. She married James Carpenter in Mineola. Mrs. Carpenter was a homemaker and she was a member of Freeman Chapel Baptist Church.
Surviving are a brother, Clyde Kelley of Dallas and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, nine sisters and three brothers.
Family friends will serve as pallbearers.

QUINLAN - Betty June Hobbs, 59, of Quinlan died in an accident on North Shore Road in Quinlan Wednesday. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Saturday at Quinlan LyBrand Funeral Home Chapel with Rick Baumgardner officiating.
She was born June 22, 1940 in Durant, Okla. Mrs. Hobbs was a health care provider employed by Concepts of Care.
Surviving are her husband, Sammy D. Hobbs of Quinlan; a son, Johnny Hobbs; three daughters, Linda Richardson, Brenda Ford and Judith Kay Kaylor; brothers and sisters; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Elaine Hogan
Elaine Marilyn Hogan, 64, of Greenville died Thursday at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Saturday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger Ratliff officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.
Born May 28, 1935 in Audubon, Iowa, she was the daughter of Richard Lehwald and Johanna Borkowski. On May 30, 1959 she married Larry Hogan in Audubon.
Mrs. Hogan worked as a switchboard operator for Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. She was a member of Van Sickle Baptist Church.
Surviving are her husband of Greenville; a son, Brian Donald Hogan of Greenville; two daughters, Shelli Lynne Hogan and Shaunda Renee Gray, both of Greenville; a brother, Merlin Lehwaldo of Sabetha, Kan.; sisters Melba Musfeldt of Phoenix and Adella Petersen of Exira, Iowa and five grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Her parents preceded her in death.
Pallbearers are Johnny Stovall, Ralph Moser, Donald Gray, Bobby Eakin, Bill Garman, Anthony Whitworth and Curtis Marlar. Randy Leggett is honorary pallbearer.

WOLFE CITY - A graveside service for Sylvia J. Powell, 59, of Wolfe City is at 10 am. today at Mount Carmel Cemetery. Rev. Frank Coleman will officiate.
She died Wednesday at Smith Nursing Home in Wolfe City.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George T. Powell, she was born Dec. 23, 1939. She was a Baptist.

Ervin Simpson
Ervin Chris Simpson, 54, of Conroe died August 1 in Conroe. There is a memorial service at 11 a.m. Saturday at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bruce Boys officiating.
He was born in Houston on Oct. 19, 1944.
Surviving are his father, Estle E. Simpson of Fort Worth; mother and stepfather, Christine and Ralph Tucker of Conroe; son, Michael Simpson of Houston; son and daughter-in-law Brady and Chrisite Simpson of Houston; grandchildren, Taylor and Tallon; sister and brother-in-law, Linda Sue and Bill Thornton of Friendswood; nieces, Terry Gummelt and husband Brock of Austin and Lori Real and husband Monty of Friendswood.
Ruby Bailey
Ruby L. Bailey, 87, of Greenville, died Wednesday at Briarcliff Health Center. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park.
Born in Collin County on March 21, 1912, she was the daughter of William Clay Ramsey and Eliza Jane Hassey Ramsey. On May 4, 1972 she married James B. Bailey in Greenville. She was a member of Peniel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Bailey is survived by her husband; two sons, Rev. Larry Don Ashley of Centerville and Robert Wayne Ashley of Mena, Ark.; two daughters Virta Lee Ashley Malone of Mena, Ark. and Charlotte Ashley Strawn of Douglasville; a brother, Billy Ramsey of Greenville; two sisters, Nadine English of Sulphur Springs and Evelyn Wooten of Greenville; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Perry Ashley, in 1969; an infant son, Billy Edd Ashley; three brothers and one sister.
Pallbearers will be Tracy Strawn, Perry Ashley, David Ashley, Gary Malone, Keith Malone and Michael Ramsey.

Eddie Edwards
Eddie Earl Edwards, 51, of Greenville, died Tuesday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.D. Lott officiating. Burial will be in Shady Grove Cemetery.
Son of Earl Edwards and Billie Pippin, he was born March 13, 1948 in San Diego, Calif. He married Nelda Boyd on Aug. 19, 1968 in Greenville. Mr. Edwards was a mechanic. He was a member of Central Assembly of God.
Surviving are his wife of Greenville; his mother, Billie Beene of Greenville; two sons, Shane Edwards and Cliff Edwards, both of Greenville; brothers Kenneth Edwards of Sherman and Jim Edwards of Copperas Cove; two sisters, Janie Sadler of Copperas Cove and Linda Harvey of Golden; one granddaughter, Samantha Raie Edwards of Greenville and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents Cynthia and Brad Edwards and Flossie and William Oscar Pippin.
Pallbearers will be Sam Pippin, Charles Pippin, Wayne Pippin, Jimmy Edwards, Charles Hill and Keith Hayes.

COMMERCE - Ruby Rebecca McCoy, 96, of Gunter, formerly of Hunt County, died Monday at North Central Medical Center in McKinney. Funeral services were at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Jones-Walker & Son Memorial Chapel with Rick Henslee officiating. Burial was in Donelton Cemetery, Lone Oak.
The daughter of William Thomas Richards and Areula Fowler Richards, she was born June 18, 1903 in Greenville. She married William Homer McCoy on Oct. 24, 1925 in Greenville.
Mrs. McCoy was a homemaker and had lived in Gunter at the Hilltop Christian Care Center for six years. She was a longtime member of the Church of Christ in Campbell.
Mrs. McCoy is survived by sisters Myrtle Bellah of Greenville, Jessie Dagley of Gunter and Hazel Hardin of Dallas; a niece, Patsy Richards White of Greenville and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 18, 1951; three sisters and four brothers.
Howard Scott
Howard Eugene "Scotty" Scott, 75, of Greenville, died Monday at his residence. No services are planned at this time. Cremains are being sent to Arlington National Cemetery.
Born in Muncie, Ind. on Jan. 9, 1924, he was the son of Kenneth E. Scott and Ethel Mae Scott Reese. On Sept. 2, 1944 he married Ella Louise Ferran in Terre Haute, Ind. Mr. Scott served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years. He worked for the Civil Service for 10 years and was retired. He was a life member of VFW.
Surviving are his wife of Greenville; a son, Warren Delbert Scott of Georgia; two daughters, Hyla Louise Deane of Mesquite and Beverly Gene Gilliam of Wolfe City; a sister, Margaret Lucille Hall of Sidell, La.; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a son.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dorothy Wood
There will be a graveside service for Dorothy Bishop Wood of Round Rock, formerly of Greenville, at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Miller Grove Cemetery. Roger England will officiate. Mrs. Wood died Monday.
She was born in Greenville on Sept. 5, 1921 to Thomas Oscar Bishop and Verda Mary Cook Bishop. She married Richard Wood on March 26, 1939 in Greenville. She was a member of the Church of Christ. Mrs. Wood was a volunteer for the Waco Public Library and a worker for McClendon County Republican Party. She was a former delegate to the Republican National Convention.
She is survived by a son, Bill Wood of Fort Collins, Colo. and a sister, Freda Warren of Greenville.
She was preceded in death by her husband on June 18, 1996 and by her parents.

Robert Kearns
CORPUS CHRISTI - Robert P. Kearns, 80, died Tuesday at Spohn South Hospital. Funeral services are at 9 a.m. Thursday at Seaside Memorial Chapel. Burial is in Seaside Cemetery.
Mr. Kearns was born Feb. 7, 1919 in Newark, N.J., the son of Robert and Mae Kearns. He was reared by an aunt and her husband, Pearl and Henry Wittenweiler in Verona, N.J.
He was a veteran, having served in the United States Air Corps during World War II. He married Jo Shrum Kearns on March 11, 1944 in Burkburnett, Texas.
Mr. Kearns was employed in the food service business in Burkburnett and later in Fort Worth. In 1954 he moved to Corpus Christi with Standard Brands. In subsequent years he was employed by Tower Drug Stores, Quick-Way Institutional Wholesale Grocery Supply and Delta Restaurant Supply. He retired from Delta in 1984.
He was a member of First Christian Church, was a Master Gardener through the Nueces County Master Gardener organization and volunteered many hours conducting adult training for the local Cub Scout effort.
In 1996, Mr. Kearns was named the Jefferson Volunteer Award winner by the Corpus Christ Caller-Times for his work creating the Growing Room project in the Corpus Christi Public Schools and for his creation of the Children's Garden through the Corpus Christi Botanical Society.
Surviving are his wife, Jo Kearns of Corpus Christi; one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Pud Kearns of Greenville; two grandsons, Robert Kearns and Richard Kearns, both of Greenville and one sister, Pearl Hughes of Ramsey, N.J.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Kearns, of River Vale, N.J.
Pallbearers are Gene Carter, Carol Clark, Roy Daniel, Tom Haggard, Bob Sumpter and Jim Welsh.

TERRELL - Odessa Primus Phillips, 89, longtime resident of Quinlan, died early Sunday morning in a Dallas hospital. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Mount Moriah Baptist Church with Rev. A.O. Carroll and Rev. T.H. Davis officiating. Burial is in New Oakwood Cemetery.
A native of Ringgold, La., she was born Feb. 3, 1910 to Rev. K.P. Primus and Daisy Wade Primus. She attended public school in Terrell. In 1928 she married Lonnie G. Phillips.
She is survived by children J. P. Phillips and wife Bennie of Cash, Mary Helen McQuinney of Dallas, Irma Pearl Phillips of Fort Worth, Charles F. Phillips and wife Dorothy of Terrell and James E. Phillips of Quinlan; a sister, Marie Dukes of Terrell; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

QUINLAN - Christopher Shawn Knight of West Tawakoni died Saturday in Greenville. There will be a memorial service at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Agape Church of Quinlan.
He was born Aug. 7, 1999 in Greenville.
Surviving are his mother, Alicia A. Knight; grandfather Jerald F. Knight of Marietta, Ga.; an uncle, Shawn Knight of West Tawakoni and aunts Lisa Knight of Acworth, Ga. and Lena Tacker of Quinlan.

QUINLAN - Kenneth Gene Malone, 67, of Quinlan died Sunday in Dallas. No services are planned.
He was born April 27, 1933 in Dallas to Richard and Thelma Thompson Malone. Mr. Malone served in the U.S. Army. He was a carpenter.
He is survived by a sister, Patsy Campbell of Quinlan.

Eugene McCarley
BLUE RIDGE - Eugene McCarley, 99, of Blue Ridge died Monday in McKinney. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Johnny Jones and Rev. John Connor officiating. Burial is in Blue Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. McCarley was born Feb. 28, 1900, in Blue Ridge; the son of Robert Israel and Lucy Vincent McCarley. He was a farmer and rancher as well as a member of the Blue Ridge Church of Christ.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Howell and Peggy McCarley of Blue Ridge; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
