QUINLAN - James "Jim" Crawford Jr., 56, of Calco died Friday in Mount Pleasant. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Quinlan LyBrand Funeral Home with burial in Lakeside Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Crawford was born October 4, 1942, in Dallas; the son of James and Mary Caperton Crawford. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a heavy equipment operator.
Surviving are his wife, Becky Crawford; sons, James Crawford, Allen Crawford and Joey Crawford; daughter, Kay Thompson; sisters, Shirley Ingram and Barbara Hood; and three grandchildren.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Leland Smith
FARMERSVILLE - Leland Smith. 72, of Garland died Saturday in Garland. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. today at Fielder-Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Massey officiating. Burial is in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Mr. Smith was born March 24, 1927, in Culleoka; the son of Arthur and Jessie Campbell Smith. He married Etta Jo Hockett Smith on April 20, 1946, in in Farmersville.
Mr. Smith was a salesman for Roach Feed and Seed Company of Garland.
Surviving are his wife of Garland; daughters, Patsy Jo Starr of Kemp and Diane McLeroy of Garland; son, Billy Smith of Arlington; sisters, Doris Wisdom of Farmersville and Jenny Miller of Sherman; brother, Leon Smith of Farmersville; seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Edna Wallace
GROVES - Edna L. Wallace, 92, of Groves died Saturday at Sabine House in Orange. Services are at 10 a.m. today at Levingston Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Robbins officiating. Burial is in Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.
Mrs. Wallace was a native of Hunt County and a former Caddo Mills resident. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Groves and the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter Number 953 in Groves.
Surviving are a daughter, Audrey Hawkins of Orange; sisters, Lois Thornton of Greenville and Gladys Johnson of Dallas; brother, Merle Williams of Dallas; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jackie Cantrell
CUMBY - Graveside services for Jackie Lynn Cantrell, 63, of Cumby, will be at 10 a.m. Monday in Memoryland Memorial Park with Rev. Bob Layman officiating. He died Thursday at Baylor Hospital in Dallas.
Born in Greenville on March 22, 1936, he was the son of Steve and Bonnie McCollum Cantrell. He married Nesica Cantrell in Commerce in 1984. He was a supervisor for U.S. Brass.
He is survived by his wife, Nesica Cantrell of Cumby; his mother, Bonnie Fay Cantrell of Greenville; sons Keith Cantrell of Dallas and Kenny Cantrell of The Colony; daughter Karla Warren of Alamagordo, N.M.; brothers Paul Cantrell of Garland, Jerry Cantrell of Quinlan, David Cantrell of Greenville, Steve Cantrell of Greenville and Randy Cantrell of The Colony; sister Bessie Chapman of Greenville and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Steve Cantrell, in 1994.
Visitation is scheduled from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Peters Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
Larry Teague
SWEETWATER - Services for Larry Duane "Sonny" Teague, 40, of Sweetwater, will be at 2 p.m. today at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home in Sweetwater with Rev. Cecil Deadman officiating. Burial will be in Sweetwater Cemetery. He died Friday at Hendrick Medical Center.
Born in Snyder on Aug. 3, 1958, he was the son of Robert Teague and Faye Jolley Teague. He was an active member of MHMR.
He is survived by his father, Robert Teague of Sweetwater; sister Kathy Brannan of Vernon; one niece; one nephew and several aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Faye Jolley Teague in 1973; a brother, David Teague in 1959; maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Jolley and paternal grandparents Marvin Teague in 1980 and Lessie Teague in 1999.
Pallbearers include Pat Ware, Marvin Guelker, Dwight Allen, David Sims, Andy Brannan and Dwyght Gunn.
Vada Bergman
Vada Louise Bergman, 81, of Greenville died Tuesday at Medical Center in Plano. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Peters Funeral Home Chapel. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.
She was born Nov. 27, 1917 in Kaufman County to James Sparks and Alpha Omega Kaufman Sparks. In 1952 she married Edward A. Bergman in Houston. She worked as a meat packer for Rath Company.
Mrs. Bergman is survived by a son, James Rainey of Lumberton; daughters, Betty Lincecum of San Antonio, Jobeth Rice of Richmond, Mo., Joyce Veblin of Dallas and Gayle McLendon of Houston; a brother, L.D. Sparks of Terrell; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1976 and a sister, Thelma Smith.
Pallbearers are Ty Sanders, Kevin Rainey, Joey Rice, Eric Veblin, Elliott Rice and Raymond Sanders.
Doris Combest
Doris Land Combest of Carrollton, formerly of Lone Oak, died Thursday at her residence. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Cook officiating. Burial will be in Wieland Cemetery.
Born in Hunt County on Oct. 28, 1938, she was the daughter of Abe Land and Jessie Wilson Land. She married Pete Combest in August 1958 in Dallas. Mrs. Combest worked for Excel Logistics. She was a Baptist.
Surviving are a son, John Delton Combest of Carrollton; former husband Pete Combest of Balch Springs; brothers and sisters-in-law, Rubert and Mary Land of Lone Oak and Roy and Brenda Land of Dallas and sister-in-law Grace Land of Lone Oak.
Her parents and three brothers preceded her in death.
Pallbearers will be Tim Lee, Roger Land, Scott Land, Rick Land, Steven Bush, Kent Breece and Robert Taylor.
Stella Hudkins
DALLAS - Stella Mae Hudkins died Friday at Juliette Fowler where she had resided the past seven months. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Eastgate Funeral Home Chapel, LBJ and Northwest Highway, with Rev. Arthur Seitzler officiating. Burial will be in Royse City Cemetery.
She was born Sept. 6, 1902 in Mesquite to Mollie Castleman Hood and Robert Wayne Hood. She operated a beauty shop for many years. Mrs. Hudkins was a member of Junius Heights Baptist Church.
She is survived by a great niece, Rose Bolden, whom she raised as a daughter; ten nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
Ten brothers and sisters preceded her in death.
Mae Norfleet
Mae Norfleet, 92, of Greenville died Thursday at Christian Care Center in Mesquite. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rick Henslee and Pat Norfleet officiating. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park.
Daughter of O.R. Norfleet and Addie Chambliss Norfleet, she was born Jan. 11, 1907 in Delta County. On Jan. 2, 1921 she married John Willie Norfleet in Hunt County. Mrs. Norfleet was a member of Johnson Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include daughters Joyce Smith of Mesquite, Doris Jennings of Greenville and Cathy McClure of Allen; brothers L.B. Norfleet and J.T. Norfleet of Greenville and Melvin Norfleet of Mt. Pleasant; a sister, Pearl Head of Greenville; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1975; one brother, Joe Norfleet and a sister, Bernice Jones.
Pallbearers will be Bobby Jennings, Todd Guinn, Jeffrey McClure, David Maldonado, Jeremy Jennings, Hew Hamilton and Mike Gracy.

Joe Shields
ROCKWALL - Funeral services for Joe Morgan Shields of Rockwall will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church of Rockwall with Rev. M.L. Jones and Steve Swofford officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
Mr. Shields died at his home Friday.
He was born June 25, 1927 in Whiterock to G.B. and Edna Furlong Shields. Mr. Shields served in the U.S. Army for two years and was the owner of Shields Exxon in Rockwall for 20 years until his retirement in 1988. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Rockwall.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Eloise Spoonemoore Shields of Rockwall; a daughter, Beverly Armistead of Carrollton; a son and daughter-in-law Mike and Debbie Shields of Rockwall; daughter and son-in-law Angela and Bill Bricker of Rockwall; grandchildren Audra Collins and Scarlett Hazen of Carrollton, Tara Gonzales of Mesquite and Summer Melcher, C.J. Bricker and Michael Bricker of Rockwall; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Hubert Shields of Greenville and a sister, Ruth Beard of Garland.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Trueman Cheney
COOPER - Trueman Odell Cheney of Yowell died Monday evening at the Christus St. Joseph's Hospital in Paris. Funeral services were Thursday at the Delta Funeral Home Chapel with Robert Moore officiating. Burial was in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Ben Franklin.
Born in Claxeco, Calif. on July 11, 1934, he was the son of Earl Cheney and Ethel Warner Cheney. He married Sherry Haggard on June 12, 1954.
Mr. Cheney was a resident of Delta County most of his life and was employed by Campbell Soup Company. He was a member of Faith Tabernacle.
Surviving are his wife of Yowell; four sons, Carlton Cheney and Cody Cheney of Yowell, Jack Cheney of Ben Franklin and Mike Cheney of Powderly; daughters Charisse Holdren and Denise Gill of Burkburnett and Annette Abbott of Greenville; a brother, Warner Cheney of Pecan Gap; sisters Carlene Kimbell of Wilcox, Ariz. and Georgene Wingo of Dayton; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa David; brothers Curtis, Evans and Lawrence Cheney; a sister, Ellen Williams and a granddaughter, Kristen Holdren.
Myrtie Collard
Myrtie D. Collard, 84, of Mesquite died Tuesday at Doctor's Hospital in Dallas. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel. Burial is in Weiland Cemetery.
Born in Hunt County on Aug. 1, 1914, she was the daughter of George W. Lynch and Scena Orear Lynch. She married Pete Hallmark on May 21, 1934 in Greenville; he preceded her in death. She married Louis Collard in July 1996 in Dallas and he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Collard was a Baptist.
Surviving are a son, Norman Hallmark of Mesquite; a brother, Clyde Lynch of Spencerville, Okla.; three sisters, Lela Glass, Lucy Stevens and Bonnie Samples, all of Point; two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husbands; a son, Malcolm Hallmark on March 12, 1989; a sister, Bertha Price and a brother, Elbert Lynch.
Pallbearers are L.C. Davis, Lester Rodgers, Alton Rodgers, Jerry Stevens, Robby Stevens and Timmy McDaniel.
Lester Essary
COMMERCE - E.L. "Lester" Essary, 98, of Klondike died Tuesday at Presbyterian Hospital of Commerce. There is a funeral service today at 10:30 a.m. at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Simmons and Rev. Lloyd Wilkins officiating. There is a Masonic graveside service at Shiloh Cemetery in Klondike.
He was born March 1, 1901 in Korsuth, Miss. to Joseph C. Essary and Mary Ellen Lee Andrew Neighbors Essary. On Sept. 20, 1920 he married Autna Orene Moore in the Needmore Community. He was a farmer and a house mover.
Mr. Essary joined the Needmore Baptist Church on July 29, 1922 where he attended all his life. He served as a deacon. He was a member of Commerce Masonic Lodge 439.
Surviving are daughter Illene Martin of Hurst; granddaughter and husband Brenda and Bob Schlappe of Fort Worth; grandson and wife Ronald and Janice Martin of Fort Worth; great-grandchildren Steven Schlappe and wife Michelle of Waco, J. Martin of Paris and Jennifer Martin and husband Marty of Pearland and great-great-grandson Nolan Martin of Pearland.
He was preceded in death by his wife on March 20, 1996, four sisters and four brothers.

Born in Hollis, Okla. on Sept. 25, 1924, she was the daughter of Thomas and Martha Nooner Fagan. She was a beautician.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Glen R. Smith of Quinlan; a son, Nelvin Smith of Mineola; two daughters, Geanne Barnes of Fort Worth and Sara Cannon of Amarillo; a brother, Herschel Fagan of Amarillo; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
William Smith
FARMERSVILLE - Funeral services for William Ralph Smith, 75, of Nevada are at 10 am. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Nevada with Rev. M.L. Jones and Rev. Bob Evans officiating. Burial is in Nevada Cemetery.
The son of Truman W. Smith and Margurite A. McSpadden Smith, he was born Jan. 27, 1924 in Nevada. On Dec. 23, 1950 he married Mary Frances Sebastian in Josephine. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Mr. Smith was a retired meat inspector for the state health department and worked for the Community Independent School District. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Nevada.
He is survived by his wife of Nevada; a daughter, Virginia Ann Turney of Jacksboro; two sons, William Scott Smith of Argyle and Phil Smith of Nevada; a sister, Lula Green of Caddo Mills and five grandchildren.
