Hallie Brown

LEONARD - Hallie Virginia Brown, 96, of Leonard died Saturday in the Leonard Nursing Home. Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Cedarlawn Memorial Park in Sherman with Rev. Elmer Miller officiating.

Mrs. Brown was born March 4, 1903, in Ida. She was married to Reuben R. Brown in June, 1928.

She was retired from Pool Manufacturing Company in Sherman and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Leonard.

Surviving are a son, Jerry Brown of Austin; one daughter, Shirley Carpenter of Leonard; seven grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Taylor Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Michael Sikes

POETRY - Michael Kyle Sikes, the infant son of Michael and Jeannie Sikes, died Thursday. Funeral Services will be at 2 p.m. today in Rest Haven Funeral Home, Rockwall Chapel with Fred Morrow officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park.

He was born Sept. 10, 1997 in Dallas.

Survivors include his parents; a sister, Brittany Sturrock of Poetry; grandmother Brenda Wooten of Garland; grandfather Jack Wooten of Venus; grandmother Wynn Sikes of Dallas; grandmother Gay Sikes of Rockwall; great-grandmother Geraldine Sikes of San Angelo; great-grandmother Joyce Ward of Midland; great grandparents Roy and Rosabel Warren of Greenville; aunts Lisa Coker and husband Ron of Quinlan and Sandra Roth and husband Andy of Garland. He is also survived by numerous great aunts, great uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather David Thrasher Sikes on March 12, 1999 and his great grandfather LBT Sikes in November of 1997.

Services are under the direction of Rest Haven Funeral Home, Rockwall Chapel.

Angie Slayden

CELESTE - Mrs. Angie Lou Slayden, 91, of Celeste died Friday at Community Medical Center in Sherman. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Taylor Funeral Home Chapel in Leonard with Rev. Bob Layman officiating. Burial will be in Memoryland in Greenville.

Mrs. Slayden was born July 10, 1908 in Kingston. She married James Clarence Slayden in April 1926 in Roxton. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Celeste and was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Nancy Richards of Sherman and Zoe Davis of Amarillo; two grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. today at Taylor Funeral Home of Leonard who is in charge of arrangements.

Viola Wilkinson

WOLFE CITY - Viola B. Wilkinson, 74, of Wolfe City died Thursday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at the West Main Street Church of Christ at 10 a.m. Tuesday with Don Tarbet and Sam Bilbeck officiating. Burial will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Wolfe City.

Mrs. Wilkinson was born April 9, 1925 in Richland Springs, the daughter of Walter Bates and Verna Cowan Bates. She married Paul D. Wilkinson Dec. 23, 1943 in Las Cruces, N.M. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was employed as a church secretary.

Survivors include her husband; one daughter, Pamala Jones of Macon, Ga.; two sons, Dan Wilkinson of Rowlett and Carl R. Wilkinson of Aurora, Colo.; three sisters, Dorothy Trapp of Albuquerque, N.M., Lois Preece of Las Cruces, N.M., and Bernice Abegg of McLouth, Kan.; two brothers, Elbert Bates of Duncan, Ariz. and Willie Bates of Winnemucca, Nev.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Wilkinson's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

In lieu of flowers, gifts may be given to Church of Christ Ñ India Evangelism.

Mrs. Bessie Taylor

HONEY GROVE - Mrs. Bessie Marie Taylor, 95, of Greenville died Friday at Rockwall Nursing Center. There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. Sunday at Oakwood Cemetery in Honey Grove with Rev. Irving Cook officiating.

Born Jan. 8, 1904 in Winfield, she was the daughter of James B. Taliaferro and Minnie Rusk. On Aug. 27, 1933 she married Loyd C. Taylor in Commerce.

Mrs. Taylor received her bachelor of arts degree from East Texas State University. She was a teacher.

A son, Loyd Ray Taylor of Dallas, survives.

She was preceded in death by her husband on June 3, 1998.

Memorials may be made to the Bessie M. Taylor Memorial Fund, W. Walworth Harrison Library in Greenville or to a charity of choice.

Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home of Honey Grove is in charge of arrangements.

William Harland

William Ricky Harland, 46, of Merit died Wednesday at his residence. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Baldridge officiating. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park.

Son of Carl F. Harland and Nellie Hope Harland, he was born April 24, 1953 in Fort Worth. Mr. Harland served in the U.S. Navy for 10 years. He was a chemist for NE-Tex Cooperative Oil Mill in Wolfe City.

Surviving are his mother of Farmersville; a brother, Sam Harland of Farmersville; sister Sherry McCloud of Greenville and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, Carl David Harland.

Romas Barker

EMORY - Romas "Pete" Barker, 72, of Emory died Tuesday at his home. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Smyrna Church with Rev. Billy Smith and Rev. William Potts officiating. Burial is in Smyrna Cemetery.

He was born in Emory on March 9, 1927 to Steve and Ada Morehead Barker. On Dec. 22, 1984 he married Barbara Frances Harris in Emory. Mr. Barker was a welder. He was a Mason and a Baptist.

Surviving are his wife of Emory; sons Randy Barker of Crandall, Ronnie Barker of Dallas and Steven Barker of Georgetown; a daughter, Deborah Potter of Dallas; three stepchildren; a sister, Lois Northcutt of Duncanville; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Pallbearers are Jackie Barker, James Luckett, Mitch Parker, Robert McEnturff, David Brown and Randall Duncan. L.B. Luckett is an honorary pallbearer.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home.

L.B. Graves

Funeral services for L.B. Graves, 81, of Greenville are at 3 p.m. today at Johnson Street Church of Christ with Rick Henslee and Keith Thomason officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.

Mr. Graves died Tuesday evening at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.

The son of Irby Graves and Mary Ethel Gray Graves, he was born Oct. 6, 1917 in Greenville. On Jan. 18, 1941 he married Cleva Ray Foster in Greenville.

Mr. Graves was a retired engineer with Kansas City Southern-L&A Railroad. He had been a member of Johnson Street Church of Christ since 1941.

Surviving are his wife of Greenville; a son, David Graves of Greenville; two daughters, Joan Graves and Janis Hodo, both of Greenville; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister and an aunt and uncle, J.D. and Zula Gray, who reared Mr. Graves in their home.

Pallbearers are Bill Daum, C.W. Spainhour, Jimmy Prince, Wayne Wallace, Danny Langford and John Paul Willaby. Honorary pallbearers are Leon Powers, Ray Rachel, Kenneth Thomason and J.L. Bevill.

Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Rosa Honeycutt

Rosa Lee Honeycutt of Royse City died Monday at Baylor Medical Center in Dallas. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday at First Pentecostal Church with Rev. Mrs. W.L. Nelson officiating.

Born Feb. 9, 1953 in Wills Point, she was raised in the home of Annie and Dewey Young. She married James L. Honeycutt in Canton in 1969. Mrs. Honeycutt worked as a cashier for Knox Fuel.

Surviving are her husband of Royse City; Mrs. Young; son and daughter-in-law Jimmey and Kimberly Honeycutt of Rowlett; a daughter, Angela D. Honeycutt of Royse City; two brothers, Kenneth Gaston and Bill Gaston of Oroville, Calif.; and four grandchildren, Kaitlin Graves, Beth Ann Honeycutt, Emily Grace Honeycutt and Clayton Tyler Honeycutt.

Her mother preceded her in death.

Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.

Frances Jones

A graveside service for Frances K. Jones, 88, of Greenville, formerly of Bedford and Oklahoma City, Okla. is at 1 p.m. Thursday at Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Oklahoma City with Rev. G. David Johnson officiating.

She died at Tuesday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.

Born Aug. 5, 1910 in Monroe, La., she was the daughter of Francis Krogmire and Lillie Mae Jones. On May 3, 1929 she married Reuben F. Jones in Monroe. She was a homemaker.

Surviving are by a son, William Jones of Canyon; two daughters, Jo Ann Jones of Colleyville and Susan Harris of Greenville; four grandsons, five granddaughters and nine great-grandchildren.

Her husband preceded her in death.

Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements and Chapel Hill Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements in Oklahoma City.

Ernest Leftwich

Ernest A. Leftwich of Greenville died Tuesday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Baldridge officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.

The son of Patrick H. Leftwich and Vela May Thigpen, he was born Dec. 9, 1919 in Hopkins County. On Jan. 18, 1946 he married Lillie Mae Bell in Dallas. Mr. Leftwich served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He retired from Sears. He was a Methodist.

Surviving are daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and Don Fulton of Greenville and daughter Carolyn Brady of Greenville; a sister, Bernice Garrison of Mount Pleasant; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, four sisters and two brothers.

Earl Phelps

Earl "Bunk" Phelps of Greenville died Friday at his home. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Thursday at Mount Elem Baptist Church with Rev. Rodney Hood officiating. Burial is in St. Paul Cemetery.

The son of Arthur and Mattie Smith Phelps, he was born Oct. 15, 1934 in Greenville. He married Emma Davis in Hunt County in 1957. In 1977 he married Gloria Kelley in Farmersville.

Mr. Phelps was an auto mechanic. He was a member of Mount Elem Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife; two sons, Richard Phelps of Greenville and Fredrick Phelps of Sherman; two stepsons, David Hawkins of Greenville and Marvin Simpkins of Dallas; three daughters, Joyce Phelps, Sandra Stephenson and Cora Clark, all of Greenville; four stepdaughters, Deloris Phelps of Dallas, Jolene Grisby of Rowlett, Ella Mae Simpkins and Annie Kaye Allen of Farmersville; a sister, Mae Ruth Mitchell of Compton, Calif. and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two daughters and a brother.

Pallbearers are Raymond Neal, Eddie Stephenson, Robert Clark, Ladell Jennings, Chris Grisby, John John Wallick and Clinton Grisby.

Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Herman Sargent

Herman W. Sargent of Caddo Mills died Monday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Southside Church of Christ with Bobby Holmes and Jack Howard III officiating. Burial is in Memoryland Memorial Park.

The son of Harry K. Sargent and Jimmie Huggins Sargent, she was born Sept. 7, 1916 in McGregor. He married Rachel Green Keele in 1997 in Seattle, Wash. Mr. Sargent served in the U.S. Air Force.

He was a retired minister of the Church of Christ and served at Southside Church of Christ and Hillside Church of Christ.

Surviving are his wife; a son, Kenneth Sargent of Tyler; a daughter, Brenda Kardatzke of Coldspring; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine Sargent on Oct. 25, 1994; a brother, Cone Johnson Sargent and a sister, Opal Nelson.

Pallbearers are Derek Sargent, Dwain Sargent, Tony Fitzgerald, Kyle Johnson, Blane Johnson and Cody Sargent.

Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Everett Steen Jr.

WYLIE - Everett Clinton Steen Jr., 76, of Wills Point died Monday at his residence. There is a graveside service at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Humboldt Cemetery in Humboldt.

Mr. Steen was born June 1, 1923 in Hot Springs, Ark.

He is survived by daughters Kay Tennant of Garland and Rebecca Layman of Wills Point; a brother, Gerald Steen of Dallas; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Hazel Steen and his parents, Everett Clinton and Vera Louise Steen Sr.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Allen Funeral Home, Inc., 508 Masters Avenue in Wylie.

Darron Stone

Funeral services for Darron Travon Stone of Greenville are at 11 a.m. today at Price Temple Church of God in Christ with Rev. Roy Price officiating. Burial is in Grundy Memorial Park.

He died Thursday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.

He was born July 8, 1997 in Clovis, N.M., son of Jeffery Daniels and Davonda Stone.

Surviving are his parents of Greenville; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Bryon Q. Mason of Wylie and Norma J. Stone of Clovis, N.M.; great-grandparents Lillie Mae Stone and Myrtle McDonald, both of Clovis, N.M.; three brothers, Lee Stone of Greenville and Eric Daniels and Alec Daniels of North Carolina and a sister, Sara Daniels of North Carolina.

Pallbearers are Michael Thomas, James Stone, Rodwyn Baker and Jessie Ortiz.

Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jewel Wallace

McKINNEY - Jewel Wallace, 91, of McKinney died Monday evening at Meadowbrook Nursing Home in Van Alstyne. There is a graveside service at 10 a.m. Thursday at Pecan Grove Memorial Park.

Born Sept. 9, 1907 in Collin County, she was the daughter of Elmer E. and Rippie Cooper McMurray. She married Roscoe Wallace on Nov. 10, 1929.

Mrs. Wallace and her husband managed hotels in Arkansas and Texas for many years and she always managed a gift shop in the hotel lobby. They retired from the Plaza Hotel in Dallas.

Mrs. Wallace was an artist. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of McKinney and a charter member of the En Avante Club.

Surviving are a brother, E.C. McMurray; a sister, Marie Prince; brother-in-law Melvin Wallace and sister-in-law Louise Wallace and nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Lucille McMurray.

Visitation is from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Belew Funeral Home, 6701 South Tennessee in McKinney.
