POINT - Melvie Alice Poovey, 81, of Morgan City, La. died Monday at Lake Wood Hospital in Morgan City. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. today at Point Funeral Home with Loyd McKinney officiating. Burial will be in Lynch Cemetery.
She was born March 9, 1918 in Rains County to Baxter and Katie Herriage Palmore. Mrs. Poovey was a housewife and she was a Baptist.
Survivors include three sons, Richard "Sonny" Rabe of Dallas, Rickey Rabe of Atlantic and Jimmy Charles Rabe of Morgan City, La.; two daughters, Robbie Rabe Sockler and Zelda Rabe Housewright, both of Euless; a sister, Dorothy Timberlake of Greenville; 16 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husbands J.C. Rabe, in 1976 and Bernarr Poovey in 1998 and 12 brothers and sisters.
Larry Lewis
LEONARD - A graveside service for Larry Frank Lewis, 45, of Leonard will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Leonard Cemetery with Rev. Bill Booher officiating. He died Monday at the Texoma Medical Center in Denison.
Son of Frank Lewis and Louise Jordan Lewis, he was born Dec. 2, 1953 in McKinney. On Oct. 7, 1983 he married Linda Haynes in Melissa. Mr. Lewis was a member of the Culleoka Baptist Church. He was a construction worker.
Surviving are his wife of Leonard; sons Cody Lewis of Hemp, Okla., Chisom Lewis of McKinney and Cleburne Haynes Jr. of Denison; daughters Judy Stibbens of Princeton, Katina Jeffus of Blue Ridge and Jody Lewis of Trenton; his parents of Mineola; sisters Judy Lewis of Van, Janet Moore of Prosper and Rose Cade of Lindale and two grandchildren.
Visitation is from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Taylor Funeral Home.
Edna L. Mayhall
Edna L. Mayhall, 96, of Lone Oak died Sunday in a Greenville nursing center. Services were at Lone Oak Baptist Church Tuesday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jacqueline Harmon and Rev. Harry Ball officiating. Burial was in Lone Oak Cemetery.
Mrs. Mayhall was born in Rains County on June 14, 1903, to W.E. and Oda Hill Chapman. She married Oscar Mayhall on Aug. 13, 1951. She was a member of Lone Oak Baptist Church.
She is survived by three sisters, Margie Flower and Imogene Mahan of Lone Oak and Johnnie Pickle of Newsome, and two brothers, Tommy Chapman of Nederland and Charlie Chapman of Austin. She was preceded in death by brothers Jack, Tony, Jim, Buck and Dick Chapman.
Visitation will be from 7-8:30 p.m. today.
John L. Rainbolt
John L. Rainbolt, 61, died Sunday morning at his home. Services were at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Coker-Mathews Chapel with Rev. David Stubblefield officiating. Burial was in Memoryland Memorial Park.
Mr. Rainbolt was born in Commerce on May 9, 1938, to Preston Allen and Faye McCombs Rainbolt. He married Dian Hawkins on Oct. 11, 1958, in Commerce. He retired from E-Systems in 1993 as a department manager. Mr. Rainbolt was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife; father- and mother-in-law, Joe Hawkins and Ferle Hawkins of Commerce; son and daughter-in-law, Rocky and Chris Rainbolt of Plano; step-mother, Naomi Rainbolt of Commerce; brothers Don Rainbolt and Mike Rainbolt of Commerce and step-brother Mike Stooksberry of Commerce; nieces and nephews Clint Patrick King, Tommy Hoover, Tony Hoover, Deanna Dozier, DeLisa Britt, Rusty Rainbolt, David Rainbolt, Jake Rainbolt and Amanda Rainbolt; a grandchild, Alex Rainbolt of Plano and a bother- and sister-in-law, Jerry and Dosha King of Athens. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Betty Hoover.
Pallbearers are James Patterson, James Kuykendall, Bobby Gray, Bill Wilson, Lee Leonard and Bobby Moore. Honorary Pallbearers will be Bill Walters, Carlos Wright, Jimmy Wright, Bubba Dunlap and Joe Durrett.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family asks that memorials be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church , Falls Creek Youth Camp Scholarship Fund.
Danny Clayton
GRAPEVINE - Graveside services for Danny Clayton, 48, of Grapevine will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Arledge Ridge in Bonham with Joe Wishard officiating. Clayton died Sunday in Grapevine.
Mr. Clayton was born in Ralls on Jan. 13, 1951, to Charles and Vernile Clayton. He married Kay Owens in Lubbock in November of 1970.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy and worked in the cannery of Fish Operations. He was a member of the Church of Christ.
Survivors include son Bradley Parsons of Wolfe City; his parents of Lubbock; brothers Brad Clayton of Grapevine, Lynn Dotson of Las Vegas, Nevada, James Dotson of Las Vegas, Nevada, Marshall Dotson of Cooper, Herb Brookshire of Carrollton and Dudley Brookshire of Tyler; sisters Candy Zeiss of Lubbock, Ernestine Howell of Las Vegas, Nevada, Leatrice Dotson of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Triena Coufal of Granbury.
Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at R.W. Owens and Son Funeral Home of Wolfe City.
Richard Ivy
WEST TAWAKONI - Richard Dudley Ivy, 67, of West Tawakoni died at his residence Monday. Graveside services will be held at 9 a.m. Thursday at Hooker Cemetery with Rev. John R. Connor officiating
Mr. Ivy was born in Manila, in the Phillippine Islands, on March 6, 1932, to James M. Ivy II and Mary Gilmore. He was a retired machinist.
Survivors include brother James M. Ivy IV of Huntsville, Alabama; two nephews and one niece.
Coker-Mathews Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Timothy Osburn
Timothy Deason Osburn, 56, of Quinlan died Sunday in Greenville. Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Vaughn officiating. Burial was in Hillcrest Cemetery in Forney.
Mr. Osburn was born in Rockwall Sept. 2, 1942, to Timothy Deason Osburn and Ella Lee Deason. He married Brenda Joyce Criswell in Forney on Sept. 9, 1961.
He was a retired plumber and a member of the Dixon Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife of Quinlan; son Timothy Deason Osburn III of Quinlan; daughters Kimberly Ann More of Caddo Mills and Deborah June Osburn of Quinlan; brother Eddie Osburn of Quinlan; sisters Sybil Loftin, of Jacksonville, Freida Horton of Jacksonville, Sue Costella of Mesquite and Jane Douglas of Mesquite; and granddaughters Christina, Charlotte, Kellie, Tommie, Robbie and Crystal.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, a brother, his parents and an infant son.
Pallbearers are Nick Armoto, Wylie Bedingfield, Jack Caldwell, Billy Taylor, Paul Wilcoxson and Greg Wilson. Wayne Ford and Bob Fulton are honorary pallbearers.
Cleo Purdy
FLOYD - Cleo Helen Purdy, 88, of Floyd died at her residence Monday. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Coker-Mathews Chapel with Rick Henslee and Ray Hunter. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park.
She was born in Greenhill Nov. 13, 1910, to Alva and Hallie Page Ricks. She married L.V. "Buster" Purdy on June 6, 1931 in Greenhill.
Mrs. Purdy was a member of the Johnson Street Church of Christ.
Survivors include daughter Joyce Crumpton of Alvord and daughters and sons-in-law Elora and James Hill of Floyd and Gay and Larry Wolfe of Garland; brothers Arthur Ricks of Longview and Roland Ricks of California; and five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and a sister.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home.
Mary Sandlin
Mary Ida Signora Sandlin, 105, of Greenville died at her residence Sunday. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Delton Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Wieland Cemetery.
She was born in Wieland on May 26, 1894 to Walter and Sarah Minerva Hart. She married John H. Sandlin in Hunt County on Aug. 19, 1916.
Mrs. Sandlin was a home maker and lifelong member of the Wieland Church of Christ.
Survivors include sons James Sandlin and Buddy Sandlin, both of Greenville; daughters Polly Crouch of Greenville, Anna Barnett of Rockwall, Ida Mae Jones of Greenville, Charlene Sandlin of Greenville, Dorothy Morgan of Garland and Betty Cunningham of Greenville; and 10 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 10 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and grandson Bob Crouch.
Pallbearers are Holmes McMillian, Jeff McMillian, Rick Kennedy, Matthew Kennedy, Brent Sandlin and Hoyt Morgan.
Opal Buck
ROYSE CITY - Opal Buck, 85, of Royse City died Friday at Rockwall Nursing Home. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at First Baptist Church in Royse City with Rev. Bob Baldridge officiating. Burial will be in Royse City Cemetery.
Mrs. Buck was born Oct. 13, 1913 in Royse City, the daughter of Ernest and Flora Martin Summers. She married Harris D. Buck. She was a homemaker and a Baptist.
Survivors include a daughter, Jo Ann Deweese of Dallas; three brothers, James Summers and Max Summers, both of Royse City, and Earl Summers of Garland; three sisters, Mozell Vervalin of Royse City, Pauline Lofland of Rockwall, and Jo Billingsley of McKinney; eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, Harris Don Buck and James Carrol Buck.
Grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation is from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Rentfrow Funeral Home who is in charge of arrangements.
Lucille Clark
Lucille C. Clark, 85, of Greenville died Saturday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brad Strand officiating. Burial will be in Forest Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Clark was born Aug. 22, 1913 in Hunt County, the daughter of William Cunningham and Pauline Salters. She married Ross R. Clark July 10, 1935 in Hunt County. A life-long resident of Hunt County, Mrs. Clark was co-owner of a grocery store and a member of Mineral Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include one grandchild, Donna Kaye Mohon and one great-grandchild Kaci Rae Mohon, both of Sulphur Springs.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Rae Clark in 1986, and by her husband in 1992.
Pallbearers will be Mark Mohon, Billy Carter, James Williams, Gary Gilliam, Henry Break, and Kenneth Cluttz.
Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. Monday at Peters Funeral Home who is in charge of arrangements.
Barbara Knipp
WOLFE CITY - Barbara Alice Knipp, 78, of Ladonia died Saturday at her residence. Funeral services will be at Owens Funeral Chapel in Wolfe City at 10 a.m. Monday with Bert Moore and Robert Martin officiating. Burial will be in Memoryland Memorial Park in Greenville.
Mrs. Knipp was born April 20, 1921 in English, Red River County, Texas, the daughter of Theodore R. and Annie Bell Hunter Duncan. She married Joseph Daniel Knipp on Feb. 15, 1993 in Wolfe City. She was employed in office management and as a consultant. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband; one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Bobbie Callaway of Celeste; one daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Kenneth Alexander of Greenville; three step sons, Clay Knipp of Chillicothe, Ray Knipp of Sumner, and Bobby Knipp of Dallas; a step daughter, Margaret Manning of North Carolina; sister and brother-in-law, Kay and Don Loden of Crawford, Colo.; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Bobbie and Sam Smith of Waxahachie; 18 grandchildren; 23 great-children; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Dean Newhouse, Richard Huff, Bob Hutsel, Jim Seibenthal, John C. Riley and D. E. Shelton.

Ila Marable
Ila Ruie Marable, 86, of Greenville died Friday at Briarcliff Health Center. Funeral services are at 4 p.m. today at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Lam officiating. Burial will be in Miller Grove Cemetery.
Mrs. Marable was born March 1, 1913 in Blanchard, Okla., the daughter of Frank M. and Grace James Stripling. She married Herman Marable on March 28, 1937 in Miller Grove. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a son, Duane Marable of Greenville; a daughter June Stewart of Dallas; two brothers, Bruce Stripling of Miller Grove and Luke Stripling of Dickerson; a sister, Georgia McCord of Sulphur, Okla.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on July 7, 1998, and two brothers, Aaron Stripling and James Stripling.
Nephews will serve as pallbearers.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church Yard Fund.
Mary Puryear
ROBERT LEE - Mary Louise Puryear, 79, of Sweetwater, formerly of Greenville, died Saturday at her sister's home in Robert Lee. Funeral services are pending with Clark Funeral Home in Neosho, Mo., with Jerry Siegel officiating. Burial will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Gravette, Ark.
While living in Greenville, Mrs. Puryear was a member of Park Street Baptist Church.
Mrs. Puryear was born Feb. 26, 1920 in Addis, La., the daughter of Ben and Millie Cleveland.
Survivors include a brother, James Hubert Cleveland of Odessa; three sisters, Ruby Cunningham of Midland, Lois Boulter of Branson, Mo. and Lillie Mae Lukins of Robert Lee; a sister-in-law; four nephews; three nieces; and several great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Grover Puryear and three brothers, Oley Cleveland, B. G. Cleveland and Bennie Cleveland.
Franklin Byers
Funeral services for Franklin Ray Byers, 67, of Merit are at 2 p.m. today at Coker-Mathews Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Richard Carlisle officiating. Burial is in Merit Cemetery.
Mr. Byers died Wednesday at his residence.
The son of Joseph Worden Byers and Virgie Mae Brooks, he was born Nov. 25, 1931 in Celeste. On Sept. 3, 1970 he married Katherine Ann Scotch in Grand Prairie.
Mr. Byers was a retired welder/roll man for Glitsch, Inc. and Gifford-Hill. He was a carrier for the Dallas Morning News in the Farmersville area. He was a member of Church of our Savior.
Mr. Byers is survived by his wife of Merit; a son, Richard Wayne Byers of Merit; daughter Michelle Renee Byers of Greenville; daughter and son-in-law Teresa Mae and Tony Espinoza of Garland; two brothers, Freeman Brooks Byers of Irving and Glen Byers of Navasota; a sister, Helen Hall of Greenville and one granddaughter, Victoria Leigh Byers.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Adolia Hobbs, Lorene Swindell and Ruth Williams and brothers Worden Byers and Derward Byers.
Pallbearers are Barry Byers, David Joe Byers, Gary Byers, Ronnie Hobbs, Lonnie Ozbirn and Alan Swindell.
Virgle Taylor
WOLFE CITY - Virgle V. Taylor, 81, of Randolph died Wednesday at Texoma Medical Center in Denison. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at R.W. Owens & Son Funeral Home with Dwight Gardner officiating. Burial will be in Wesley Chapel Cemetery.
Born Feb. 20, 1918 in Wood County, he was the son of Marvin and Maudie O'Rear Taylor. He was a contractor for U.S. Mail Service.
Mr. Taylor was a U.S. Army veteran who served in World War II. He attended the Church of Christ.
Surviving are his wife, Sybil Louise Milner Taylor; four sons, Charles Taylor of Plano, Donald Taylor of Bonham, Jimmie Taylor of Sherman and Steven Taylor of Randolph; daughter, Janice Bills of Angleton; two brothers, Vernon Taylor of Edhebue and David Taylor of Savoy and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers are James Whiteside, Johnny Whiteside, Bill Bang, Frankie Taylor, Gene Keen and John Taylor.

Guadalupe Vargas
A funeral mass for Guadalupe Vargas, 60, of Dallas is at 11 a.m. today at St. Williams Catholic Church with Father Antonio Oscar Diez officiating. Burial is East Mount Cemetery.
A rosary for Mrs. Vargas, who died June 29 in Mexico City, was Friday at Peters Funeral Home Chapel.
Mrs. Vargas was born November 12, 1938, in Mexico City; the daughter of Trinidad Gonzales and Maria Munoz Gonzales. She was married to Jose Vargas on March 6, 1958, in Mexico.
Surviving are her husband of Mexico; sons, Jose de Jesus Varga, Nicolas Vargas and Rodolfo Vargas; daughters, Maria De Los Angeles Guerra, Lourdes Caspstillo, Rosa Maria Chevez and Maria Garcia; brothers, Carlos Gonzales, Francisco Gonzales and Ezequiel Gonzales; 22 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
