Allen Madison Johnson of Greenville died Oct. 21 at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. There will be a viewing from 10 to 10:45 a.m. today with service beginning at 11 a.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with Auggie Gomez, Bishop, officiating. Burial is in Grundy Memorial Park.
He was born in Clarksville on June 28, 1915 in Clarksville to Thaddeus Johnson and Celia Ann Becton Johnson.
Mr. Johnson grew up in Clarksville and graduated from Cheatham High School. He attended Wiley College for one year. At age 59 he graduated cum laude from California State University in Long Beach.
He enlisted in the Army as a private and served for 23 years. He went to the South Pacific during World War II where he was promoted to First Lieutenant and served in Korea and received a Bronze Star. Mr. Johnson had a second career at the Navy shipyard in Long Beach, retiring after 17 years.
He was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1961 and was the first African-American in Texas to receive the priesthood in the church in 1978. Mr. Johnson was co-founder and past chairman of the West Side Neighborhood Center; co-organizer and first chairman to the board of the Long Beach Opportunities Industrialization Center; Political Action Chairman of the NAACP in Long Beach; president of People's Strive Corporation; vice president of the American Federation of Government Employees Union; and a member of the Mayor's Education Task Force. He was a 33rd degree Mason and a member of the Optimist Club.
In Greenville he led the committee that raised funds to build the first chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, served in many capacities in the church and served as president of the NAACP in Greenville.
He married Hilda Allen in Reno, Nev. on Nov. 26, 1987.
Surviving are his wife; sons Dr. Allen M. Johnson Jr., Thaddeus E. Johnson, Derrick Johnson, William Johnson and Elmo Slider; daughters, Theresa Williams and Lauren Williams; sisters Carrie Fannin, Lucy Dent and Dimple Merritt and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first two wives, Myrtle Johnson and Fannie Johnson; a sister, Lucy Dent and a son, Airman 1st Class Thaddeus Johnson.

FARMERSVILLE - Joshua Neal Marty, 22, of Irving, died Tuesday. Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Fielder-Baker Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rick Ballard officiating. Burial is in Pecan Grove Cemetery in McKinney.
The son of Michael Marty and Mary Anne Cooke Marty, he was born March 28, 1977 in Eureka Springs, Ark. He served in the U.S. Air Force.
Surviving are parents, Jim and Mary Anne Truemper of Farmersville; grandparents F.M. and Adina Cooke of McKinney; a brother, Justin Marty of The Colony and nephew Orion Marty of The Colony.

Jessie Young
Jessie "Sonny" Young of Houston died Wednesday in Houston. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Saturday at Grundy Funeral Home with Rev. Roy L. Price officiating. Burial is in Grundy Memorial Park.
Mr. Young was born in Greenville on July 18; the son of Dottie Young and the adopted son of Arthur and Clara Singleton. He was a member of the Truevine Baptist Church.
Surviving are his step-father, Charles Ward, of Houston; brother, Michael McDaniel of Houston; sisters, Claudia Hardemon of Greenville, Carolyn Jones of Gainesville, Edna Singleton of Irving, and Annie Singleton of Huntsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Family friends are pallbearers.
Margot Harris
CORPUS CHRISTI Margot Aline Davidson Harris, 85, of Corpus Christi died Sunday. There is a memorial service at 3 p.m. Sunday at Grace Presbyterian Church, Greenville. Burial is in East Mount Cemetery.
Born Nov. 18, 1913 in Dallas, she was the daughter of G.W. and Eva Davidson. Orphaned at a young age, she lived at the I.O.O.F. Orphans Home in Corsicana and graduated from high school there.
On July 12, 1934 she married Ross G. Harris in Corsicana. They lived in Port Arthur for many years and moved to Corpus Christi in 1951. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Harris worked for and retired from the Probate Department at the Nueces County Courthouse as a clerk.
Surviving are daughter Margot Annette Hayes of Corpus Christi; a brother, Harold G. Davidson of Austin; sister Vera Laney of Denton; two granddaughters and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1967, a brother, Clifford Davidson and sister Georgia Davidson.

Virginia Sumrow
MERIT Virginia Christine Sumrow, 89, of Merit died Oct. 20 in Greenville. Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Monday in the Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Lois Cooper and Wesley Ford officiating. Burial will be in Merit Cemetery.
She was born in Merit on Dec. 25, 1909 to Felix Grundy Ketron and Claudie Irene Shelton Ketron. She married Earl Sumrow in Merit on Dec. 15, 1935. Mrs. Sumrow was a homemaker and member of the First Methodist Church of Merit.
Surviving are sons F.D. Sumrow of Merit and Keith Sumrow of Allen; daughters Elaine Sumrow and Camelia Miller, both of Greenville; sister Mary Ketron of Greenville and grandchildren Donna, Brandon, Mindy and Angela.
She was preceded in death by her husband and two brothers, Bill and Frank Ketron.
Pallbearers were Brandon Sumrow, Leon Lorton, Harold Roseberry, Logan Graham and Ralph Shelton; and Kevin Speyrer, Wesley Ford and Marcus Villereal were honorary pallbearers.
Myrtle Wilson
QUINLAN Myrtle Louise Wilson of Quinlan died Wednesday in Terrell. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Quinlan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Sidney Stone officiating. Burial will be in Grovehill Cemetery at 2 p.m.
Born July 5, 1920 in Henderson County, she was the daughter of Levy and Lillian Pearl Diggs. She lived in Pleasant Grove and retired as a maintenance worker from Dallas Independent School District. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Surviving are sisters Juanita Threadgill of Dallas, Helen Simms of Tomball, Mary Allison of Texarkana and Irene Vaughn of College Station; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil Wilson and a daughter, Myrtle LaVerne Hickman.
Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
James Wilson
CADDO MILLS James David Wilson, infant , died Monday at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. today at Rentfrow Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Hollis Crow officiating. Burial is in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
He was born Monday at Baylor, son of Rebecca Hope Carter Wilson and James Stacy Wilson.
His parents survive.
Peggy Cullum
EMORY Peggy Cullum, 62, of Emory died Tuesday at Hopkins County Memorial Hospital in Sulphur Springs. Services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wilson-Orwosky Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Smith officiating. Burial is in Pilgrim Rest No. 1 Cemetery.
Mrs. Cullum was born August 19, 1937, in Emory; the daughter of G.A. and Ferrell Morris Alexander. She was married to Loyd Cullum on July 12, 1952, in Oklahoma. She was a Baptist.
Surviving are her husband of Emory; daughters, Cindy Cox of Allen and Kimberly Roche of Arlington; brother, Alvin Alexander Jr. of Arizona and two grandchildren.
Pallbearers are friends.

Jeanette Grayson
HONEY GROVE Jeanette Steinocher Grayson, 73, of Honey Grove died Saturday. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Allens Point Baptist Church.
Mrs. Grayson was born June 17, 1926, in Moulton; the daughter of Vladik and Bessie Kubenke Steinocher.
Surviving are her husband, C.A. "Pete" Grayson; daughters, Vida Day and April Banning and husband Leo; son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Gisela Grayson; grandsons Jeff Day, Richard Grayson Jr., David Adams and Timothy Adams; granddaughters Ericka Day, Brandi Webb, Jaime Adams and Danae Banning and two great-grandchildren Cameron Day and Cassadie Webb.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Edwin Steinocher.
Pallbearers are James Adams, Jeff Day, Timothy Adams, David Adams, Richard Grayson Jr. and Heath Webb.

Weldon Martin
Weldon D. Martin of Greenville died Thursday at Greenville Presbyterian Hospital. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Cozine & Tarver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Larry Price officiating. Burial is in East Mount Cemetery.
He was born in Texarkana, Texas on Aug. 8, 1923 to Joe and Annie C. Whiten Martin.
Mr. Martin was a retired cook. He was a Baptist.
Surviving are a nephew, Thomas Martin of Hempstead, N.Y. and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
Joyce Reeves
Joyce Harris Reeves, 80, of Bryan died Sunday morning. There is a memorial service at 2 p.m. today at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan and a graveside service is at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Blue Bonnet Hill Cemetery in Colleyville.
Born July 24, 1919 in Davenport, she was the daughter of Slade Harris and Elmer A. Harris. She graduated from Greenville High School. She married John Reeves and was a member of the Church of Christ.
Mrs. Reeves retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone in Fort Worth.
Surviving are her husband of Bryan; several stepchildren and grandchildren; two sisters, Dorlis Bagwell and Erma Dean Miller of Greenville.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas G. Harris.
Edith Speed
Edith Ethelyn Dick Speed died Sunday at her residence in Greenville. There is a graveside service at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery in Houston Wednesday and a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday at Grace Presbyterian Church in Greenville.
The daughter of Mattie Sneed Harris and Robert Campbell Dick, she was born Jan. 20, 1913 in Houston. She was orphaned at age seven and was raised by her oldest sister, Mattie Carmen Davis.
On June 21, 1931 she married Harris Monroe Speed. He died Nov. 11, 1976 and she married Paul Rollett on Oct. 4, 1987. They moved to Greenville. Mr. Rollett died Jan. 20, 1996.
Mrs. Speed graduated from Milby High School in Houston, attended business night school and worked for several firms before retiring from the Steam Engineering Department of Westinghouse Electric with 27 years' service.
She was a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, The Hunt County Herb Society, The American Cotton Museum and a former member of the League of Women Voters.
Mrs. Speed is survived by daughters and sons-in-law June Marilyn and Dr. R. Irvin Morgan of Greenville and Judith Carolyn Leonard and Ron Bristol of Austin; a granddaughter and husband Melissa Beth Morgan and Michael Brown of Dallas; four grandsons and their wives, Neill Sagen and Nancy Patton Morgan of Sherman, Peter Ian and Amy Dooley Morgan of Greenville, Jeremy Walton and Tanya Leisner Leonard of Dallas and Paul Michael and Teresa Lashbrook Leonard of Playa del Rey, Calif.; eight great-granddaughters, eight nieces and seven nephews.

Delores Smith
COMMERCE Delores Smith, 49, of McKinney died Monday at North Texas Medical Center in McKinney. There is a graveside service at 2 p.m. today at Memoryland Memorial Park in Greenville with Rev. Joel Arnold.
Born Oct. 11, 1950 in Jacksboro, she was the daughter of Arnold L. Hudson and Novella Parker Hudson. She graduated from Greenville High School. She was a medical transcriptionist at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth and she was a Baptist.
Surviving are a son, William Preston Smith of South Lake; daughter April Smith of South Lake; former husband Ronnie Smith of South Lake; father and stepmother Arnold L. and Fama Babb Hudson of Campbell; sisters Patricia Sampson of College Station, Doris Bradford of Hurst and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother in 1984; a sister, Sandra Kay Waters in 1991 and a brother, Arnold Dell Hudson in 1998.
Visitation is from 9 a.m. until time of service today at Jones-Walker & Son Funeral Home in Commerce.
Robert Wentzel
Robert James Wentzel, 18, of Celeste died Saturday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. Funeral services are at 4 p.m. today at First Baptist Church of Celeste with Rev. James Ralson officiating.
The son of Herman and Romona Yost Wentzel, he was born in Greenville on Sept. 7, 1981. A senior at Celeste High School, he was a member of the F.F.A. and Beta Clubs and also umpired and coached. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Surviving are his parents of Celeste; a sister, Michelle Wentzel of Celeste; grandparents Jim and Norma Butler of Florida and Robert and Lois Douglas of Pennsylvania and aunts and uncles Clarence Steinberger and Robert and Pat Douglas, all of Pennsylvania, Bruce and Mary Wentzel of Michigan and Heidi and Dennis Peterson of Oklahoma.
Pallbearers are Aaron Lamb, Michael Mayrell, Sterling Argyle, Jeromy Evans, Josh Cook and John Bullock.

ROYSE CITY Rafael Aguillon, 64, of Royse City died Saturday. Funeral services are at noon Tuesday at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Rockwall.
Mr. Aguillon was born April 20, 1935, in Mexico to Justo and Julia Tovar Aguillon.
Surviving are his wife, Carmen Aguillon of Royse City; father, of Mexico; daughters, Maria Aloso of Royse City, Olga Calles and Juana Arellano, both of Rockwall, Amelia Garcia of Greenville and Ofelia Marquez of Rowlett; sister, Lucia Aguillon of Mexico; brothers, Enrique Aguillon, Ramon Aguillon and Crispin Aguillon, all of Mexico, Agustine Aguillon and Bacilio Aguillon, both of Rockwall, and Leno Aguillon of Fort Worth; and 15 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother.
