Naomi Canon

BAYTOWN ­ Naomi Elledge Hodges Canon, 82, died Sept. 9 at a nursing home in Baytown. Funeral services were Sept. 12 at Earthman Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Edwards officiating. Burial was in San Jacinto Memorial Park in Houston.

Born May 15, 1917 in Hunt County, she was the daughter of Ernest Elledge and May Finley Elledge. She grew up in the Sunset community.

On Feb. 26, 1938 she married Robert Hodges of Quinlan in Lubbock and they moved to Greenville within a year. He preceded her in death in 1942. In 1946 she married Mr. Canon; they moved to the Houston area.

Mrs. Canon lived in Highlands and the surrounding area for 50 years. She retired from Oline/Mobile Corp. after 30 years of service.

Surviving are sons Doyle Hodges of Orlando, Fla. and Don Hodges of Houston; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands and two sisters, Lucille Cozart and Ernestine Long.

Pallbearers were Richard Cannon, Wayne and Dustin Hodges, Arthur Eld, Joseph Clements and Ken Doty.

Larry Childers

LONE OAK ­ Larry Childers, 53, died Monday morning at his mother's home in East Tawakoni. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. today at Bartley Funeral Home Chapel. Burial is in Hooker Cemetery.

The son of Cecil and Lorene Marney Childers, he was born Feb. 4, 1946 in Greenville. He was an electrician and attended the Assembly of God Church. He lived in Hunt and Rains Counties all his life.

Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Lorene and Ed Burns of East Tawakoni; five sons, Jimmie Childers of Dallas, Leroy Childers of Crandall, Fletch Childers, Jessie Childers and Calab Childers, all of Point; a daughter, Chelsey Childers of Point and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers, Leroy Childers and Don Childers.

Pallbearers are Danny Chatham, Jerrell Chatham, Charles Childers, Wendel Hodge, Shane Childers and Fletch Childers.

A.L. Hays

POINT ­ A.L. Hays, 79, of Wylie, died Sunday at Lake Pointe Medical Center in Rowlett. Funeral services are at 3 p.m. today at Point Funeral Home with A.L. Draper officiating. Burial is in Lynch Cemetery.

The son of Patrick and Nora Parish Hays, he was born April 29, 1920 in Aspermont. Mr. Hays was a building contractor.

Surviving are two daughters, Patricia Hays of Powell, Wyo. and Jeannette Fagg of Murphy; a sister, Edna Boyd of Greenville; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Hays, on Sept. 19, 1999; three sisters, Deeb, Aline and Maggie Ross and three brothers, Tom Hays, Wilson Hays and Bubba Ross.

Howard Kelley

FARMERSVILLE­ Howard E. Kelley, 79, of Farmersville, died Monday. There is a graveside service at 1 p.m. today at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Princeton with Rev. John Connor officiating.

Born in Ballground, Ga. on Aug. 26, 1920, he was the son of Sterling and Alice Howard Kelley. He and his wife Sue were married in Georgia on June 6, 1970. Mr. Kelley served in the U.S. Navy. He worked in construction.

Surviving are his wife of Farmersville; daughters, Nila Cartmill of Farmersville, Dianne Kelley of California and Sandra Wood of Georgia; foster son Randy Hendricks of Georgia; a sister, Jewel Merett of Georgia; three brothers, Frank Kelley, Robert Kelley and Carter Roper, all of Georgia; and six grandchildren.

Fielder-Baker Funeral Home of Farmersville is in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Morris

Ruth Louverne Morris, 87, of Campbell died Sunday in Baytown. Funeral services are at 3 p.m. today at Peters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Cary Kinnaird officiating. Burial is at Brigham Cemetery in Campbell.

Mrs. Morris was born June 24, 1912, in Double Springs, Ala.; the daughter of Joel and Rosa Sims Sutherland. She was married to Melton Morris on May 29, 1932, in Alabama. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Campbell.

Surviving are her sons, Joe Morris of Huntsville, John Morris of Florida and Melton Morris of Texas; daughters, Kathryn Gable of Campbell and Rose Cason of Dayton; brother, Walter Sims of Alabama; sisters, Jessie Peters and Rose Sims, both of Alabama; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; brothers, Paul Sutherland and Will Sutherland; and three grandsons.

Helen Mzhickteno

Helen Louise Peck Mzhickteno, 78, of Quinlan died Tuesday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. A memorial service is scheduled for a later date.

Mrs. Mzhickteno was born Jan. 31, 1921, in Emporia, Kans.; the daughter of Fred E. and Frances Julia Parker. She was married May 15, 1999 in Quinlan to Leroy Mzhickteno. She was a Catholic.

Surviving are her husband of Quinlan; sons, Fred Peck of Cornith and Robert Peck of Lanoka Harbor, N.J.; daughters, Vicki Rindom of Fort Worth, Patti Taylor of Quinlan and Mary Bricker of Canton, Ga.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Victor Peck, in 1982; two sisters and one brother.

Peters Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.;

William Watson

CADDO MILLS ­ William Bill Watson, 73, of Quinlan died Saturday. There is a graveside service at 2:30 p.m. today at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Caddo Mills with Rev. Billy Norris and William Bill Watson Jr. officiating.

The son of Claude William Watson and Mary Pauline Stevens Watson, he was born June 6, 1926 in Quinlan. He married Hattie Fay Hughlett. Mr. Watson was a nurse at Terrell State Hospital.

Surviving are sons William Bill Watson Jr. and Sammy Don Watson, both of Dallas; daughters Paulette Hershner of Dallas and Dena Bonner of Eustace; two brothers, Thad Watson of Hot Springs, Ark. and Merle Watson of Caddo Mills; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two brothers.

James M. Rentfrow Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Fred Beasley

CUMBY ­ Funeral services for Fred L. Beasley, 81, of Cumby are at 3 p.m. today in the Cumby United Methodist Church with Rev. William Harmon and Rev. Jacqueline Harmon officiating. Burial is in Cumby Cemetery.

Mr. Beasley died Sunday morning at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville.

He was born April 26, 1918 in Cumby to Henry Lee and Ibrah Easley Beasley. On Feb. 18, 1950 he married Dorothy Lee Rayburn in Greenville.

Mr. Beasley was a retired electrician with ESCO Corporation. He served in the U.S. Army during World War. He was a Methodist and a member of the VFW.

Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Brenda Walls of Cumby, Betty Agee of Greenville, Linda Collins of Greenville and Pamela Fouse of Sulphur Springs; four brothers, James Beasley of Campbell, Morris Beasley of Greenville, Bill Beasley of Emory and Duane Beasley of Flint; two sisters, Katherine Formby of Cumby and Ozell Ensley of Cumby and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister.

Pallbearers are Eddie Rayburn, Jack Bornheim, David Hayworth, Ronnie Smith, Steven Smith, Mark Ensley and Danny Beasley.

Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Cumby Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Luanne Branch

COMMERCE­ Luanne Branch, 61, of Klondike died Monday in Paris. There is a graveside service today at 2 p.m. at Rosemound Cemetery.

She was born Sept. 26, 1938 in Commerce to Al Davis and Louise Wise. On Feb. 23, 1960 she married Billy Branch in Commerce. Mrs. Branch was a longtime resident of the Commerce and Klondike area and graduated from Commerce High School.

Mrs. Branch attended East Texas State University. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Commerce.

She is survived by her husband of Klondike; a daughter, Lorraine Robinson of Sulphur Springs; a brother, Danny Davis of Phoenix, Ariz. and an aunt, Harriett Lake of Commerce.

She was preceded in death by her father and a daughter, Karen Branch in 1983.

Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. today at Pemberton Funeral Home.

Otis Fisher

Otis Fisher, 80, of Greenville died Sunday at Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville. There is a graveside service at 2 p.m. Wednesday at McWright Cemetery with Rev. Joel Arnold and Rev. Bill Shaddox officiating.

Son of Adam Fisher and Fannie Vivian Loven Fisher, he was born Jan. 30, 1919 in DeKalb. He married Alma Lucille Bellotte in 1939 in Bowie County.

Mr. Fisher was a veteran, serving in the U.S. Air Force during World War II. He was a retired truck driver and mechanic for the City of Dallas. He was a member of Salem-Kinser United Methodist Church and Masonic Lodge 1209 in Dallas.

Surviving are two sons, Jimmie Crew Fisher and Roger Earl Fisher, both of Greenville; a brother, Elzy Giffis of Odessa; two sisters, Opal Greenslade of Mesquite and Marie McMillon of Lamesa and grandchildren Jamie Tweden of Washington and Jennifer Bradford of Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Members of Salem-Kinser United Methodist Church will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home .

A.L. Hays

Voynceal Turner

Voynceal Turner died Friday in Paris. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Commerce with Rev. Harold Pannell officiating. Burial is in Grundy Memorial Park.

She was born in Pittsburg on July 2, 1939 to Charlie and Naoma Armstrong. She was a member of Pentecostal of Lord Jesus Christ in Commerce.

Surviving are her mother; sons Kenneth E. Turner of Dallas, Tyrone Turner of Paris, Kail Turner of Commerce and Brock Turner of Tyler; daughters Bonnie Armstrong of Wolfe City, Marshall Armstrong of Plano; Joe Armstrong of Florida and Charlie Thomas of Wolfe City; a sister, Naioma Mott of Rockport; 11 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Friends of the family are pallbearers.

Grundy Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Willie Wright

QUINLAN ­ Willie Ray Wright, 74, of Quinlan died Sunday in Terrell. There will be a graveside service at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery with Ronnie King officiating.

The son of James and Rosa Ward Wright, he was born in Kemp on July 4, 1925. He served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Wright was employed by Allstate Insurance.

Surviving are his wife, Billie Ruth Wright of Quinlan; a son, Johnny Ray Weedn of West Tawakoni; two sisters, Cristine Knowles of Reno, Nev. and Faye Snodgrass of Garland; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Quinlan LyBrand Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Elmer Jones

FARMERSVILLE ­ Elmer F. "Red" Jones, 78, died Sunday in McKinney. Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church with Rev. Bart Barber officiating. Burial is in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

Mr. Jones was born July 15, 1921, in Italy, Texas; the son of Clude and Betty Rogers Jones. He married Marchille Jones on August 16, 1974, in Gainesville.

Mr. Jones was an engineer with the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was a U.S. Army veteran and a Baptist.

Surviving are his wife of Farmersville; daughters, Jay Haid of Forestburg and Marcia Dickerson of Merit; son, Edwin Jones of Littleton, Colo.; stepdaughter, Gloria Heflin of Gresham, Ore.; stepson, Dr. Barry Toombs of Houston; sisters, Jerry Reynolds of Port Arthur and Jean Harris of Italy; brother, C.M. Jones of Austin; and nine grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jessica, in 1973.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church building fund.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Fielder-Baker Funeral Home.

Mable Trolinder

COMMERCE ­ Clyde Mable Trolinder, 95, of Dallas died Saturday in Dallas. Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mount Zion Cemetery with Rev. Riley Hamilton officiating.

Mrs. Trolinder was born Oct. 20, 1903, in Hunt County; the daughter of Peter and Cordelia Harlow St. Clair. She was a longtime resident of Greenville before moving to Dallas seven years ago.

Mrs. Trolinder received her teaching certificate from East Texas Normal College ands taught school for 52 years. She taught six years in Texas and later joined the Indian service in 1928. She taught on reservagions in Arizona for 27 years.

She retired from the reservation and moved to California and later taught in Nevada for four years before returning to Greenville 1974.

Mrs. Trolinder was a member of the Retired Teachers Association and the Highland Terrace Baptist Church of Greenville.

Surviving are a niece, Glee Varner of Bella Vista, Ark., and two nephews, Virgil St. Clair of Dallas and Morris St. Clair of Sulphur Springs.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian St. Clair and Maud Henderson, and one brother, Walter St. Clair.

Memorials may be made to the Highland Terrace Baptist Church or Stewart Cemetery of Campbell.

Pemberton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements and memorials.

Bill Webb

POINT ­ Bill Webb, 70, of Lone Oak died September 29. Graveside services are at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Hooker Ridge Cemetery with Ronnie King officiating.

Mr. Webb was born Jan. 16, 1929, in Dallas; the son of Allen Robert and Ruth Steel Webb. He worked at Texas Instruments and was a U.S. Navy veteran; having served in World War II.

Surviving are sons, Bill Webb Jr. of Emory and Kenneth Webb of East Tawakoni; daughter, Karen Webb of Garland; sister, Betty Porter of Lake Livingston and one grandchild.

Point Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
