JOSE C. HOLGUIN, 74 , passed away Thursday, June 24, 2004. Longtime El Paso resident and member of the catholic church. Mr. Holguin worked with Chaney Trucking Company for 3 years. Survived by his loving wife of 55 years Carmen Holguin, sons Teodoro Holguin, Hector Holguin, Jose Holguin and Gerardo Holguin, daughter Guadalupe Holguin Perez, 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and sister Elvia Holguin. Mr. Holguin will lie in state Monday, June 28, 2004 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home East. Rosary Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 28, 2004 at Martin East Chapel. Sheral F. Kell, 62, passed away on Tuesday, June 22, 2004 in El Paso. He served in the U.S. Army for 20 years as well as White Sands Missile Range for 20 years. He is survived by his wife, Bonnie; son, Steven; his daughter, Cassie and his two granddaughters, Rachelle and Jade. Sheral is also survived by a brother, Theodore and his sister, Patricia and his aunt, Levarn McCoy. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 28, 2004 at Kaster-Maxon & Futrell Funeral Home from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Graveside Service will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors.

William Parks J.B., 80, passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 2004. He came to El Paso while serving in the Army and also retired here in El Paso. Born and raised in Concord, North Carolina. Mr. Parks was the proud owner of Bill Parks Bar-B-Q for 37 yearS. Bill Parks Bar-B-Q was located in Central El Paso and was recognized by Texas Monthly as one of the best barbecue joints in the state. For 31 years, Mr. Parks cooked the best ribs and brisket over a wood fire for eight hours a day, just the way his grandmother in Concord, NC taught him. A great amount of pride went into his food when he saw those great smiles from many of his customers and friends. Mr. Parks was a long time member of the Shiloh Baptist Church where he served in the usher's ministry. He is survived by his loving wife of 36 years, Eunice Parks, sons Bennie Parks and Edwin Parks and daughter Leslie Parks, three grandchildren Keith Parks, Aushlie Parks and Brittnie Parks and three great-grandchildren Brenda, Junior, and Bryan. Visitation will be held Monday, June 29, 2004 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at 11:30 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church. Interment will at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery.

Hector Hugo Rodriguez Sr. passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 24, 2004 at his home. Hector was born to Procopio and Feliciana Rodriguez on September 2, 1938 in San Francisco del Oro, Chihuahua, Mexico. Hector attended UTEP where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology. Hector was a postman, a school teacher and later a custom home builder. He is survived by his loving family; wife Lucy Rodriguez, son Hector Jr. and his wife Pat, daughter Kim Rodriguez and her husband Douglas Dobbin, son Arturo Ricardo and his wife Christine, and son Daniel Federico. He has many grandchildren who gave him great joy: Jennifer, Elizabeth, Christine, and Chelsea Dobbin; Vanessa Mata, Hector Christian Rodriguez; Aurora and Alex Decker, Kailie, Matthew and Sydnee Rodriguez. Hector is also survived by his sisters, Maria Ponce and Enedina Ontiveros and his brother Agustin Rodriguez. Visitation will be held Monday, June 28, 2004 from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home with the recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home, 3839 Montana Ave., El Paso, Texas. Renate Stroud went home to be with the Lord on June 22, 2004. She was loved by so many for her exuberance and joy and will be greatly missed. Renate is preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Maria Stroud; sons, David and Grady Apodaca; and brother, Jonathan Payton Stroud. She is survived by her sons, Joey Apodaca, Rudy Apodaca, Robert Ray Apodaca, and Jason McGowan; daughter, Nancy Azbell; brother, Grady L. Stroud; and sisters, Eva Carpenter, Anita Bell, and Keren Stowe. Memorial service will be held at 7:00 pm, Monday, June 28, 2004 at Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast. Charles Judson (Jud) Waggoner, 48, passed away Sunday, June 20, 2004 in Dallas, TX. He was born August 2, 1955 to David and June Waggoner. He graduated from Ysleta High School in 1973. Following graduation, he was a helicopter mechanic in the U.S. Army until 1990. He participated in Operation Just Cause, the invasion of Panama in Dec 1989. He returned to El Paso and worked for several aviation companies as a maintenance representative. He was preceded in death by his father, David Waggoner. He is survived by his mother, June Waggoner, his wife of 23 years, Colette, two sons, Bryan Waggoner and Seaman Gunner's Mate David Waggoner of the U.S. Coast Guard, Port Arthur, Texas, his sister, Junelle Echlin, brother, J.D. Waggoner and their families. Special thanks to his co-workers at Ryan International Airlines of Wichita, KS and Dallas, TX. Graveside service to be held Tuesday, June 29, 2004 at 9:00 a.m. at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery with military honors.

Evan Kenneth Wilson, 16, passed from this life into the eternal presence of his Savior-King on Wednesday June 23, 2004. He leaves behind his loving parents Kenny and Joan Wilson, brother Sean Wilson and lifelong sister-friend Elfi Register. He is also survived by his grandparents Ralph and Beverley Teague, and George and Rose Wilson, his uncle Mike and aunt Tina Elliott, and cousin Steven Elliott. Evan's love of life NJROTC., skateboarding and church youth activities, and an inspiration to all who were around him. Because of this, he also leaves behind many grieving friends and acquaintances. Born Dec. 22, 1987, in El Paso, Texas, he was a lifelong resident of Fabens and was to begin his Junior year at Fabens High School. Visitation will be at Hampton Valley Chapel from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday June 27th. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday June 28, at First Baptist Church of Fabens where Evan was a member. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Monday afternoon. He is preceded in death by his maternal grandmother Jean Teague and uncle Ross Wilson. DORA ALBANEZ, 81, of Amarillo, formally of El Paso, passed away on May 31, 2004 in Amarillo. Memorial services will be: Rosary at 9:30 AM on Friday, June 4th, and the Mass will follow at 10:00 AM Friday, June 4th, 2004 at All Saint's Catholic Church in El Paso, Tx., with Father Kennon Ducre officiating. Dora was born December 2, 1922 in Los Angeles, California to Aurelio Mendoza and Antonia (Pichardo) Mendoza. She was a member of St. Ignatius Catholic Church in El Paso and attended Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Amarillo. She worked for Popular Dry Goods for more than 20 years in El Paso. Survivors include: daughter: Sandra husband (Sam) Eason of Amarillo, three sisters: Enriqueta Santiesteban, Socorro Medina, and Martha Ortiz, five brothers: Aurelio Mendoza, Joe Mendoza, Raul Mendoza, Edward Mendoza, and Rick Mendoza. Three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. The family would like memorials to be made to BSA Hospice, P.O. Box 950, Amarillo, Tx. 79105.
Juan N. Cataño was born on May 6, 1942 in El Paso, TX and was blessed with eternal life at the age of 62 on May 31, 2004 at 11:30 pm in El Paso, TX. Juan N. Cantaño was raised in El Paso all the way up to his high school years. While attending Austin High School he was drafted into the Navy and was shipped off on the USS Canopus that was a supply ship for the Vietnam War. He made it all the way up to the rank of First Class Petty Officer. After spending 9 years in the Navy he came back to El Paso shortly after getting out. He went to school to become a barber. He was really successful and started his own business Roffler Family Hair at 6505 N. Mesa. He ran his business since 1979 and still is in operation by his wife of 30 years Carmen G. Cataño. Juan N. Cataño is survived by his wife Carmen Cataño and his children Juan N. Cataño, Jr., Soledad Lopez, Margarita Aguilar, Guadalupe Molina, and Jesus Molina. Also by four brothers and one sister Tony, Billy, Arturo, Jesus, and Chavela Barrera. Juan N. Cataño was the grandfather of 3 grandsons and 4 granddaughters, and 1 great grandson. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 3, 2004 at San Jose Funeral Home from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM with praying of the Rosary at 6:30 PM. She is survived by two brothers, Andrew Adkinson of Mart, Texas and Henry Lee Adkinson of Coolidge, Texas, a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. GLORIA F. DENA, 78, born April 3, 1926 was called to the house of the Lord on May 31, 2004. She is survived by her husband Roberto Dena and children Delia Gutierrez, Roberto and Clara Perea, Ricardo and Thelma Dena, Oscar Dena; her grandchildren Mayela Nevarez, Jerry Gutierrez, Roberto Gutierrez, Omar Gutierrez, Monica Molina, Adriana Licon, Laura Perea, Eric Dena, Lisa Dena, Elissa Torres, Guillermo Torres, Damien Dena, Aaron Dena; 11 great-grandchildren; and her surviving siblings Jesus Fierro, and Socorro Ortiz. She was a member of the Pia Union of the Corpus Christi Monastery. Viewing will be held at Hillcrest Funeral Home, Thursday, June 3rd, from 2 pm to 9pm; Rosary will be at 7 pm. ROSE G. DRESDEN We are saddened to report that Rose G. Dresden of Chaparral, New Mexico has passed away. Rose died on May 31, 2004 at the age of 84. Rose is survived by her son, Richard Lambert of Albuquerque, New Mexico and her sister Margaret Flores of El Paso, as well as many nieces and nephews. Rose was born in El Paso in 1919 and graduated from Bowie High School in 1937. She worked as a bookkeeper at Silverman Steel Company. Rose moved to California in the early 1950's to seek a better life for herself and her son. She worked for Trudy's of California, a dress making company in San Francisco and for the Davis Construction Company of San Leandro, California, a company owned by Al Davis of the Oakland Raiders. Rose came back to this area in 1971 to retire. She was politically active in Dona Ana County and volunteered at local school as a teacher's assistant. She loved animals and gardening and was an avid cook. Rose was a life member of B. Armijo VFW Auxiliary #2753. Visitation will be at Sunset Funeral Home at 750 N. Carolina in El Paso on Friday June 4, 2004 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a rosary at 7:00 pm. Interment will be held at Mt. Nydise Melancon Duchouquette, 90, passed away May 26, 2004. She had been a longtime resident of El Paso and a member of the Catholic Faith. She is preceded in death by her husband John R. Duchouquette. Survived by her daughters, Nydise D. House (Milton); Jeanne D. Broadstreet (Ray); also survived by nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and another very soon, brother Andrew Melancon and sisters, Barbara Douthitt and Margaret Arnold and many members of the extended Melancon and Duchouquette families. We would like to thank Dr. W. Strader, Ms. Sigrid Gourley, and everyone at Hospice of VNA and Village Oaks at Cielo Vista, who have shown so much love and care. God bless you. Ramon Romero Gonzalez, 55, passed away on Thursday, May 27, 2004. Ramon served his country bravely for both the United States Marines and the United States Army. He is preceded in death by his mother; Romana Romero, and his father; Santos Gonzalez. He is survived by brothers; Lorenzo, Antonio, Jose & sisters; Paula, Irma and Martha. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Thursday, June 3, 2004, with a vigil to be said at 7:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home-East located at 750 N. Carolina. Funeral services for Ramon will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 4, 2004 at Sunset Funeral Home-East. Interment will follow at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors. Daniel Natividad, born on April 4, 1927. Went to be with his maker on May 22, 2004. Retired from Safeway as a truck driver. Veteran of WWII. Survived by his wife Paula. His children Bertha Rogers, Daniel Natividad, Jr., Gilbert Natividad, and Rebecca Bleimeyer, 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandsons.

HOWARD L. PENLEY SR, 81, passed away on May 31, 2004, Memorial Day & his birthday. A D-Day veteran, he was in the 147th Combat Engineer Battalion, 6th Engineer Special Brigade. He was in one of the early waves to hit "Bloody Omaha." Born to Pete and Jeanette Penley in El Paso, he attended Austin High School and then enlisted into the Army. He received the Croix de Guerre with Palm. He also was awarded medals for the Normandy Invasion, the Battle of France, the European Theatre of Operations and the Good Conduct Award. In 1984, the President of France awarded him the French Medal of Freedom at a ceremony in Normandy France. After the war, he married Virginia Smith in 1947 and attended the University of Texas and attained his electrical engineering degree. He started working at El Paso Electric Company in their engineering department and became the manager of Systems Planning. He retired from the Electric Company in 1986. He is preceded in death by his first wife Virginia and his parents Pete and Jeanette Penley. He is survived by his wife Martha Jane Penley, his two children Howard L. Penley Jr. and his wife Julie; Leslie R. Penley and her husband Chris Johnston and their three daughters Jeanette, Brenna, and Natalie; his step-daughter Mary Beth David and her husband Don and their two children Melissa and Brian. He is also survived by his brother P.A. Penley and his wife Betty and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a founding and lifetime member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church. He was an initial sponsor of the Insights Science Museum. He was also a member of American Legion Post 36. Funeral arrangements are with Martin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 9915 Montwood Dr., El Paso, Texas 79925. Memorial services will be held at St. Luke's United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 5, 2004 at 10:00 a.m.

Manuel “Manny” Ruiz, 54, passed away on Monday, May 31, 2004, a lifelong resident of El Paso. Mr. Ruiz was the owner of Manuel Ruiz General Construction company and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. He was a man with a big heart. Preceded in death by his sister, Maria. Manny is survived by his wife, Blanca Tercero, sons, Manuel F. Ruiz, Jr. and wife, Lori, David Ruiz and wife, Diana, Saul Tercero and Samuel Tercero and wife, Patty, daughter, Rachel Ruiz and husband, Fred Ortega, 9 grandchildren, mother, Maria de Refugio Torres, brothers, Luciano and Patricio Torres, sisters, Joann Reyes, Delia Rios, Letty Fernandez and Yvonne Guerra, numerous nephews and nieces. Visitation will be held at Restlawn Funeral Home, 4848 Alps Dr. on Thursday, June 3, 2004 from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church on Friday, June 4th at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Reyes V. "Chapo" Torres Sr. 83, went with Our Lord on May 29, 2004. He was a lifetime resident of El Paso and a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend. A true American Patriot, he was a WWII Veteran and ex POW. Served with the 15th Army Air Force as a radio operator and gunner. Honors include the Purple Heart, POW Medal, Air Medal, and the Presidential Unit Citation. Lifetime member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, American Ex-Prisoners of War, Chapter I, Veterans of the Foreign Wars and the D.A.V. Mr. Torres was also a member of the 15th Air Force Assoc., founder and charter member of Segura McDonald Post #5615. He and his wife, Rosario were co-founders of the Golden Bear Social Club. He retired as a shop car inspector after 33 years of service with Southern Pacific Railroad. Preceded in death by Rosario, his loving wife of 56 years, his daughter, Rebecca T. Pierce. Survived by his sons, Reyes V. Torres Jr. (Alicia); Hector Torres (Irene); daughters, Miggie Torres and Rachel Cisneros, grandchildren, Andrea and Cristina Torres, Artie Cisneros, Ivan, Isaac and Vincent Paul Pierce, sister, Josefina Carrasco and his loyal pet companion "Mona Lisa". Visitation will be held Thursday, June 03, 2004, from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with Rosary Service at 7:00 p.m. at Martin Chapel. Funeral Mass will be Friday, June 04, 2004, at 9:15 a.m. at St. Patrick Cathedral. Interment will follow at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery with Military Honors. MR. ERNESTO G. (NEGRO) DURAN, 86, went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ, Sunday, March 28, 2004. He was a lifelong resident of Socorro and a member of La Purisima Catholic Church. Mr. Duran was a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and retired from Phelps Dodge Refinery after 34 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pablo L. and Carmen G. Duran and brothers, Fernando G. Duran, Leonardo G. Candelaria and Ignacio G. Candelaria. Mr. Duran is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carmen M. Duran. Sister, Lucilla Escontrias. Son, Eloy Armando Duran and wife Sara. Daughters, Ida Hinojosa and Gloria Borrego and husband Norman. He also leaves behind 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren who loved him and will miss him dearly. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Crestview Funeral Home. MARY LEE FINGER passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2004. She was born Mary Lee Wolford on August 4, 1920 in New Albany, Indiana. She graduated from Presentation Academy and attended Nazareth College both in Louisville, KY. In January 1946 she came to El Paso as the bride of Jack Finger, a native El Pasoan, who preceded her in death. Her life was devoted to her faith, her family, and her friends. For many years she was an active member of St. Patrick's Cathedral Altar Society and she was also a member of the Christ Child Society and the Roncalli Club. She is survived by her children, Nancy Porter and husband Earl, Beth Finger, Joseph Finger and his wife Alice, Sally Falkner and husband Highly, Jan Newton, and Jackie Heins and husband Mark. Grandchildren, Jennifer Porter Carrillo, James Porter, Julie Porter Crawford, Emily Falkner, John Falkner, Rachel Falkner, Sean Newton, Kate Newton, Sarah Heins and Meredith Heins and one Great Granddaughter, Quincy Katherine Carrillo. She is also survived by a brother, Carl H. Wolford and sister Trudy Wolford Grove, both of New Albany, Indiana. Naji Hajjar, 52, born in Jezzine, Lebanon passed away Saturday, March 27, 2004. He was preceded in death by his father Nadim in 2002. He was a long-time El Paso resident and a member of the Catholic Church. He is survived by his loving wife Monica of 25 years, his three children, Nadim, Linda and Ted. He is also survived by his mother Linda and his brothers Hikmat, Talaat, Behjat, Massoud and his sister Sylvana. Naji started N.H. Construction in 1979 and later he founded N.H. Design. PAULINE J. LANE, 86 yrs., passed away March 26, 2004. She is survived by son Bruce L. Lane and grandchildren Jessica and Travis Lane. Graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday March 31, 2004 at Ft. Bliss Cemetery. Interment Ft. Bliss Cemetery.

James F. Springer, 71, passed away on March 27, 2004. He had been a resident of El Paso, Texas for the past 45 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and was a contractor in the area. He served with A.S.R. Army and Air Force as a Flight Engineer with B-29, B-17, C-82, C-47 and SA-16 Aircrafts. Mr. Springer was also on the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors #5122. He was part owner of New Mexico Boiler Works from 1963-1965. He was an inspector; supervisor for Colonial Rehab from 1993-1995. Also during that time, Mr. Springer was a construction supervisor for Lower Valley Housing Corporation. He was a construction manager for Lago Este Homes, a construction consultant for Catalina Development and Santa Teresa Country Club, and was also a real estate broker. He was preceded in death by his stepson, John M. Schinagel; step-daughter, Teri Jo Schinagel; and brother, Joe Springer. He is survived by his wife, Julie Schinagel, son, James J. Springer, step-son, Gary E. Schinagel; daughters, Barbara E. Springer, Susan M. Springer, and Janice R. Benedict; step-daughters, Geri L. Reese and Joni M. Schinagel; and brother, Glenn Springer, 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 pm until 9 pm at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel located at 4631 Hondo Pass. Rosary will be at 7 pm on Wednesday also at the funeral home-N.E. A funeral mass will be held at 1:00 pm, Thursday, April 1, 2004 at Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Interment will follow at 2:00 pm at Fort Bliss National Cemetery with military honors.

Michael Isaiah Vallejo "Lil Sleepy Lowk's", 18, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, March 27, 2004. He was born July 9, 1985 in El Paso, Texas. He is survived by his parents Michael and Irene Vallejo, sisters, Rebecca Delfina Vallejo and Miracle M. I. Vallejo, maternal grandparents, Natalia Luna and Alberto Soto, paternal grandparents, Alicia Vallejo and Rogelio Chavez, and nephew, Josaiah Vallejo. Other survivors include many aunts, uncles, and cousins. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Visitation will be held Tuesday, March 30, 2004 from 4:00pm to 9:00pm at Mt. Carmel Funeral Home Chapel with prayer service at 7:00pm. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at 10:00am at Mt. Carmel Funeral Home Chapel. James Lawrence Brown, 72, passed away Tuesday, March 2, 2004 in El Paso. He was a longtime resident of El Paso. He was a veteran of the U.S. Airforce having served during Korean War and was a retired automotive mechanic. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Carol Dean Brown. Son, Jimmy Brown. Daughters: Patty Akers, and children, Will and Sara: Donna Jones, and child, Tabitha and Jamie Jones-Brown, and child Natalie Mize. Vesta Lorraine Cooksey, 71, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away on March 3, 2004. Visitation: 5-9pm today at Sunset F.H. NE Funeral Service: 10am Monday at same F.H. Jacqueline E. Farkas, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died peacefully in her sleep on March 3, 2004. Jacqueline was born July 1, 1932 in Verdun, France. She came to this country as a young U.S. Army military wife, where, later, she and her two children made El Paso their home. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Sylvia and Carlos Ramos. Her memory will be honored by the son she adored, Juan "Nito" Estrada. She will be greatly missed by her grandson and his wife, Chuck and Margie Ramos, and their new baby, Isaac Nathanial Ramos. She will also be greatly missed by her granddaughter, Yvette Ramos. She is survived by her sister, Yvette Downs of Florida, and her brother, Guy Legay, of France. Jacqueline was a member of Spirit Life Christian Center Church and a passionate follower of Jesus Christ, with whom, she is gloriously spending eternity. Eva A. LaRae (LTC. Ret.) U.S. Army Nurse Corps, 86, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 4, 2004, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband Lewis LaRae (Maj. U.S. Army Ret.). LTC LaRae was born December 29, 1917 in Stafford Springs, CT. to Louis and Elsie Savy and was one of six children. She received her nurse's training at Roosevelt Hospital in New York City and in 1942 joined the U.S. Army Nurse Corps and was assigned to the 9th Evacuation Hospital and provided medical care to the troops under General Patton throughout World War II. She later provided health care during the Korean War in Southwest Asia, Tripler Army Hospital in Hawaii, Ft. Lewis and Walter Reed, where she retired in 1967. She then established her retirement residence in El Paso. She leaves many friends and will be sorely missed. Graveside Service will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. by Reverend Sam Faraone, VNA Hospice Chaplain, at Fort Bliss National Cemetery under the direction of Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast with full military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to VNA Hospice, 2211 E. Missouri Ave.; El Paso, TX 79903. Services entrusted to Sunset Funeral Home-Northeast.
