Henry H. Mason, a retired school administrator and teacher, and World War II Army Air Corps veteran, died Sunday (Oct. 8, 2000). He taught at Crockett Elementary and Ramona Elementary, and had been the assistant principal at Austin High School, Eastwood High School and Loma Terrace Elementary. He was 84 and an El Paso resident since 1939.
Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Y.; his sons, William Mason and Robert Mason; his daughter, Ruth Williams; three brothers; one sister; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his son, Frank Mason.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Martin Funeral Home-Central. The graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of VNA Circle of Hope, P.O. Box 3628, El Paso, TX 79923; the Alzheimer's Association; or the Parkinson's Association.

Juan Casanova Jr., 53, of El Paso died Thursday (Oct. 5, 2000). Funeral Mass will be at 2 p.m. today in Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will be in Evergreen East Alameda. He is survived by his mother, Pilar Martinez. He was a lifelong El Paso resident. Arrangements are by Hillcrest Funeral Home-Carolina.

Billy G. Fowler, 64, of El Paso died Friday (Oct. 6, 2000). The graveside service will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday in Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Jeanne; two sons; three daughters; two stepsons; one brother; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was a dental assistant for D.E.N.T.A.C., a 23-year Army veteran and a longtime El Paso resident. Arrangements are by Kaster-Maxon & Futrell Funeral Home.

Fernando Santos Gonzalez, 98, of El Paso died Saturday (Oct. 7, 2000). Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today in Sunset Funeral Home-Carolina, with rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mark's Catholic Church. Burial will be in Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Socorro; his son, Jose Fernando Gonzalez; his daughter, Soledad Gonzalez; and one grandchild. He was a retired postal worker and a longtime El Paso resident.

Dawn O'Joy Hamilton, 80, of El Paso died Wednesday (Oct. 4, 2000). The graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fort Bliss National Cemetery. She is survived by her family in Ohio and many friends in El Paso. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alexander, and her son, Roger Hamilton. She was a resident of El Paso for more than 50 years. Memorial contributions may be made to the memorial fund of St. Timothy Lutheran Church. Arrangements are by Martin Funeral Home-East.

Juanita Kennedy, 53, of El Paso died Wednesday (Oct. 4, 2000). Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today in Sunset Funeral Home-Carolina, with prayer service at 1 p.m. The graveside service will be in Whispering Pines Cemetery in Eight Mile, Ala. Survivors include her son, Tommie Lee Jones Jr.; her daughter, Thomasina Garner; two sisters; and four grandchildren. She was a health care nurse's aide.

Maria G. Lewis, 76, of El Paso died Thursday (Oct. 5, 2000). The funeral will be today at noon in Martin Funeral Home-Central. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Survivors include her son, Edward Lewis; her sister, Lita Giron; one stepbrother; and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas E. She was a homemaker and a lifelong El Paso resident.

Stanley Martin Newberry, 87, of El Paso died Wednesday (Oct. 4, 2000). The graveside service will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Fort Bliss National Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Lucille; his daughter, Patsy Thunhurst; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He retired from Price's Dairy as a driver, was a World War II Army veteran and was a longtime El Paso resident. Arrangements are by Mount Franklin Funeral Home.

Bertha E. "Birdie" Ortega, 53, of Kingman, Ariz., formerly of El Paso, died Thursday (Oct. 5, 2000). Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today in Martin Funeral Home-Central, with rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 9 a.m. Tuesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, Miguel Jr.; her sons, Miguel Ortega III and Marcos Ortega; her daughter, Wendy Renteria; her mother, Bertha Madrid; four brothers and three sisters. She was an admitting representative for Kingman Regional Medical Center and lived in Kingman for 20 years.

Matthew Alexander Pavone and Joseph Montgomery Pavone, infant twin sons of Joseph Anthony and Kathleen Michelle Pavone, died Thursday (Oct. 5, 2000). Funeral Mass will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Post Chapel 2 in Fort Bliss. The burial will take place in Tennessee. They are survived by their parents; their sister, Victoria Rose Pavone; their paternal grandparents, Joseph and Rose Pavone; and their maternal grandparents, Eual and Janice Donegan. Arrangements are by Sunset Funeral Home-Hondo Pass.

Antonio Ramirez, 70, of Juárez died Friday (Oct. 6, 2000). No services are planned. Cremation will take place. He is survived by his brother, Javier Norman, and his godson, Alvaro Aguilera. He was an X-ray technician and a resident of Juárez for 20 years. Arrangements are by La Paz Funeral Home.

Rosaura Villalobos Rocha, 60, of El Paso died Sunday (Oct 8, 2000). There will be a private burial at a later date. Survivors include her husband, Federico; her sons, Frank Rocha, Jose Luis Rocha, Javier Rocha and Arturo Rocha; her daughter, Yolanda Valentine; three brothers; one sister; and six grandchildren. She was a homemaker and a longtime El Paso resident. Arrangements are by Martin Funeral Home-Central.

Mariano Soto, 65, of El Paso died Thursday (Oct. 5, 2000). Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today in La Paz Funeral Home, with rosary at 7 p.m. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Guardian Angel Church. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Evangelina; his sons, Ruben Soto, Sergio Soto, Saul Soto, Moises Soto and Mariano Soto; his daughter, Mayela Soto Lopez; one brother; three sisters; and one grandchild. He was a cook at Leo's Restaurant, a vendor at the Ascarate Flea Market and a longtime El Paso resident.

ANNE R. BUTCHER passed away October 29, 2001 from complications of emphysema in Houston, Texas. Born June 15, 1917 in Jersey City, NJ., she was the widow of Samuel A. Butcher with whom she was married for 51 years. She is survived by a daughter, Susan B. Kammerman of Houston, TX., and a son, Victor G. Butcher of Cordova, TN, and 4 grandchildren. Mrs. Butcher also leaves behind her sister, Sally R. Gulbas of El Paso. Mrs. Butcher was a retired bookkeeper for the El Paso ISD and worked at Coronado High School for many years. She was known for her sense of humor, extensive vocabulary, and her poetry. She was very active with the Women's Auxiliary of the Jewish War Veterans. Graveside service will be held Wednesday, October 31, 2001 at 3:00 P.M. at B'Nai Zion Cemetery with Rabbi Stephen Leon officiating. The family requests that any memorials be made to the Hymer Rosen Fund at Congregation B'Nai Zion or a charity of choice.

Mrs. Helene Conner, 86, One of God's greatest Prayer Warriors went home to be with Him, Sunday, October 28, 2001 in a local hospital. She was a longtime resident of El Paso and was a member of Jesus Chapel. She was a retired Office Manager. Mrs. Conner's greatest joy was her family and is survived by her sons, Lee Conner and wife Linda of El Paso, Jack Conner and wife Carole of Albuquerque, NM. Grandchildren, Terri Conner Bashore and John Alan Conner of El Paso, Jeannie Allen of Glenpool, OK., Patti Madison of Bellingham, WA., Michael Conner of Tahlequah, OK., Michael and Kenneth Amparan of El Paso. Great Grandchildren, Shay, Justin, Jessica, Michael, Justin, Joshua, Jeremy, Elizabeth, Michelle, Richard and Caleb. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home - Carolina. Graveside Service will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Evergreen East Cemetery with Pastor Buster Russell officiating. Directed by HILLCREST FUNERAL HOME. 1060 Carolina Drive. 598-3332.

MANUEL ISMAEL DAVILA "MANITO" was born in Chih., Mexico on Nov. 8, 1900. He lived and witnessed a century of world history. He survived many hardships and overcame many obstacles. On October 28, 2001, the Lord called him to his side. Manuel is survived by his loving wife, Carolina Solis Davila. They were married for 76 years. They had 12 children, sons: Manuel I. Davila, Jr., Mario Davila, Armando Davila, and Ramon Torres. Daughters: Maria E. Hernandez, Consuelo Pina, Rosario Richardson, Irene Resendez and Hilda Davila. They have 18 grandchildren; 19 great- grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Manuel immigrated to the United States September of 1937. He had no knowledge of the language but that did not stop him. He quickly found employment and his employers valued his hard work ethic. He worked as a truck driver for many years. He was also a boxer because of his love for the sport and nicknamed "Manito" because of his huge hands. Manuel retired at the age of 74 and for the next 17 years he freely gave of his time and devotion to the Lord and the holy nuns of the Monastery of Perpetual Adoration. Manuel Davila was a loving husband, a devoted father and doting grandfather. We were gifted with his warm hugs, gentle smile, his wisdom and his humorous personality. The family would like to thank his doctors: Dr. Jose Silva, Dr. Galo Rodarte, Dr. Manuel L. Acosta, Dr. Eugenio Armendariz and the staff at Providence Memorial Hospital for their constant care and compassion. We will be forever thankful to the Lord for allowing him such a long and fruitful life. We are truly grateful to the Lord for bestowing upon us the greatest privilege; the privilege of being loved by this extraordinary man. All services will be held at: The Monastery of Perpetual Adoration, 145 N. Cotton. Visitation: 7 p.m. - 9 p.m. Rosary: 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass: 9:00 a.m. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery - Alameda St. Pallbearers: Manuel I. EVELYN JEDREY, 73, born September 12, 1928 in Louisville, KY to Joseph and Annie Evelyn (Pullen) Lemmonds, passed away October 28, 2001 in Houston, TX. after a brief illness. Evelyn was a long time resident of El Paso, Tx and member of Harmony Chapter #244 Order of the Eastern Star of El Paso, TX. Beloved wife and mother, she is survived by husband of 50 years, Clayton L. Jedrey, Sr., and her children: Dorothy Sue Johnson and husband Dan of Scottsdale, AZ, Jacqueline Blanche Grable and husband Charles of Magnolia, TX and Clayton L. Jedrey Jr., and wife Bing of Virginia Beach, VA and six grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday October 31, 2001 at the chapel of Klein Funeral Home with Brother Ted Wimberley officiating.

GUADALUPE S. MIRANDA, passed away Sunday October 28, 2001. She was a lifetime resident of El Paso, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents Celso Sagaribay and Antonia Granados Sagaribay. Guadalupe Miranda is survived by her husband Efren Miranda, her sons Efren Jr., Gilberto, Alejandro, Jesus, Ricardo, and David Miranda, also by her daughters Yolanda Mercado, Maria Avila, and Bertha Miranda. Guadalupe had thirty grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her six sisters Licha, Mague Kika, Cecilia, Juanita, and Gloria, also by her three brothers Jose, Pablo and Beto. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Visitation will be Wednesday October 31, 2001 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM with rosary at 7:00 PM at Mt Carmel Funeral Home Chapel located at 1755 N. Zaragosa El Paso, Texas 79936. Mass of the Resurrection will be held Thursday November 01, 2001 at 9:30 AM at Cristo Rey Catholic Church located at 8011 Willamette El Paso, Texas 79907. Internment will be at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John A. Howlet, Alberto Mercado III, Efren Miranda III, David Miranda Jr., Benjamin Avila, David Avila Jr.

Mr. Rhys Willis Rees passed away October 29, 2001 in El Paso, Texas at the age of 84. A member of the First Presbyterian Church of El Paso. Mr. Rees was born on September 12, 1917 in Taylor, Pennsylvania. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, and a Master's degree in Geology from Penn State University. He served in World War II as a pilot, and later retired from the U.S. Naval Reserve after reaching the rank of Lieutenant Commander Ret. Mr. Rhys was employed by and retired from Shell Oil Company. After his retirement from Shell, Mr. Rees later worked for and retired from the Texas Department of Water Resources. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Leigh Rees, two daughters, Molly Newman of Conifer, Colorado and Amy Rees Russell, of South Salem, New York, two grandchildren, and his aunt, Marjory Davey of El Paso. Memorial services will be held in First Presbyterian Church, 1340 Murchison St. El Paso, Texas Friday, November 2, 2001 at 3:30 PM.

EDUARDO "EDDIE" REZA, 24, a graduate from Parkland High School passed away Friday, October 26, 2001. He is survived by his parents Jesus Manuel and Maria C. Reza, brother Roberto, sisters Bonnie, Sandra and Yvette Payan along with his brother in law Justin Payan and nephew, nieces, and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Eddie will lie in state Wednesday, October 31, 2001 from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home Central. Prayer Service will be at 7:30 p.m. in Martin Chapel. Graveside Service will be held on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. Burial at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery. Eddie had a great love for Jehova God.

BENITO RUIZ, 51, passed away Tuesday, October 16, 2001 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Mr. Ruiz was a resident of El Paso, Texas and recently moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. He retired from the United States Air Force. He was a Civil Engineer for the City of El Paso. He is survived by the mother of his children, Suzan T. Ruiz, his parents Celia Ruiz and Jesus Ruiz, his son, Anthony Ruiz, daughters, Lisa Ruiz, Charlene Ruiz, Shannon Ruiz, Dawn Ruiz, and Kristina Ruiz. 8 Grandchildren, 1 Brother and 3 Sisters. Memorial Service will be held at Hillcrest Funeral Home -Carolina Friday at 1:00 p.m. and will be concluded at Ft. Bliss National Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. Arrangements by HILLCREST FUNERAL HOME-CAROLINA. 1060 Carolina Dr 598-3332.

Maj. Lyndon James Stretton, (USAF), 81, passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2001. He was born on August 13, 1920 in Morrisonville, Ill. Lyndon retired in El Paso after an extensive military career as a veteran pilot of WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He is survived by his long time eternal friend, Ovada Hatcher, daughters, Barbara Ritter, Kathy Montgomery, Susan Reyes and a son, Sam. Jim was a kind, gentle man, caring man, more than a father, more than a friend and will be greatly missed by many. Visitation will be Thursday, November 1st from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, November 2nd in Kaster-Maxon & Futrell Funeral Home Dyer Chapel with Dr. Brodace Elkins officiating. Interment will follow in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
