MR. LEOPOLDO B. GARCIA, 54, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2002 in El Paso. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso and a Veteran of the U.S. Marines having served during the Vietnam War. Mr. Garcia graduated from Texas Tech Law School. He was a previous employee of the Department of Justice and former assistant District Attorney. He practiced law for 25 years. JAMES QUINCY HARGRAVE, U.S. Army Ret., age 70, died Sunday, October 6, 2002 of ALS (Lou Gherig's Disease). Born in Williamsburg, VA on August 24, 1932, he grew up in the Richmond, VA area where he entered the Army in 1950, serving for 23 years. Following retirement from the Army in 1973, he entered Civil Service from which he retired in 1993. He was a resident of El Paso for 40 years. Joan Russell Hargrave, his wife of 48 years, his son James Russell Hargrave of El Paso, TX, his daughter Laurie Cameron Williams, her husband John F. Williams, and two grandchildren Daniel Cameron Williams and Sarah Ellen Williams of Austin, TX, and his sister Geraldine Hamaker of Virginia Beach, VA survive him. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, October 16, 2002 at 2:00 P.M. at Fort Bliss National Cemetery, The Rev. Frank Williams officiating. ALICIA ALVAREZ, 79, passed away Monday, September 22, 2003 in El Paso. Alicia was born in Matanzas, Cuba on December 16, 1923. She was a resident of El Paso since 1968 and was a member of the Catholic Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilberto. Mrs. Alvarez is survived by her daughter, Alicia Ward and husband Charles. Grandchildren, Jessica Smith and husband Rick, Walter Berestein, Sharon George and husband Michael, and David Ward. RITA ARRAS ARMENDARIZ passed on to be with her Lord on September 23, 2003 at the age of 90. Rita was born in Villa Ahumada, Chihuahua on April 18, 1913. She moved to El Paso fifteen years ago. A member of the American Culinary Association, she was a self taught and accomplished culinary gourmet chef. Her specialties were bridal and banquet confections. Rita was a loving and giving individual who will be missed greatly not only by her family but also by her friends and her clientele to whom she brought so much happiness and delight. Her ever present smile, her singing and love of music will be missed. She is preceded in death by her husband Arturo Armendariz and her son-in-law Leo Esparza. Survivors include her beloved daughter, Sara Leticia Armendariz De Esparza, grandson Orlando Arturo Esparza, sister Irene Arras Rochin, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Rose Mary Herron, 80, passed away September 21, 2003. She was born in Santa Rita, NM to Patrick H. Greeley and Rufina Angiano. A resident of El Paso for more than 60 years, she was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Herron, Sr. in 1996 and her son, Sam Herron, Jr. in 1976. She is survived by her two sisters, Katherine and Annie Mae and her only grandson, C. Fulcher-Herron, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A truly loving parent and wonderful grandmother, she will be forever missed by family and friends alike. DONNA LA FERN BROWN MATTHEWS, the best Wife, Mom and Mamo, was born June 28, 1945 in Morenci, Arizona to Louie and Florence Brown. She died at home on September 22, 2003. She married Gene Matthews August 6, 1966 in Bayard, New Mexico. Donna and Gene moved to El Paso in 1967. Donna worked for Stewart Title of El Paso for 17 years. DAVID NAVARRO, SR. passed away in El Paso on Sunday, September 21, 4 days short of his 89th birthday.He was a proud WWII veteran and later established himself as a respected banker in Juarez. In his later years he was a Realtor for Coldwell Bankers. He was preceded in death by his first wife Emma and son David Jr. He is survived by their children Georgina Alva, Ana O'Neill, Eva Dominguez, Arturo Navarro and one sister, Fabiola N. Saenz. He is also survived by his wife Ines and their children Helman Avila, Barbara Shadoan, Laura Farokhnia and Jazmin Chiarella and Cynthia Avila (deceased). MARGIE IRENE RICHESON, 73, passed away Tuesday, September 23, 2003 and joined her Father in Heaven. She passed away after a lengthy illness and was surrounded by family and close friends. Margie was born in Marfa, Texas on March 17, 1930, then moved with her family to El Paso as an infant. She spent her entire life in El Paso, aside from a ten-year period in Washington, D.C. Margie and her husband, Hawley, represented El Paso well in D.C., while Hawley served as a Administrative Assistant to Congressman Richard White from 1972 to 1982. She served as executive secretary for the Southwestern International Livestock Show and Rodeo for a number of years and found great joy in working with children. Margie's love for her family and friends was well known and her sense of humor was legendary. She found pleasure in every day life and has left a tremendous vacancy in the hearts of all those who loved her. Margie is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Hawley; her mother, Zelda Robinson; and four children, Mike Richeson, Bebe Sullivan, and her husband Dusty, Zelda Ruiz, Stacia Lara and her husband Jorge. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Melissa Meador, Mike Meador, Jennifer Ruiz and Andy Ruiz and many dear friends. Services in celebration of Margie's life will be at 10:00 A.M. Friday, September 26, 2003 at Martin Funeral Home West, Pastor Ellen Fenter presiding. Private intermenty will be held at a later date.
