Terry Wayne Hinds
Funeral services for Terry Wayne "Gunner" Hinds were conducted Monday, May 19, 2003, in the chapel at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Orange Park, Fla.
Hinds died May 14, 2003, after battling lung cancer. He retired after 30 years of decorated service from the United States Navy as a CWO4.
He was preceded in death by parents Charles L. Hinds and Anna Bell Hinds; and brother Charles L. Hinds Jr.
Survivors include wife Mary Ann Hinds,; daughter Karrie Rene Hinds; son Scott Gary Hinds and wife Kristin; stepdaughter Julie Ann Johnson; stepson Frank Carlton Douglas Jr.; two brothers, Charles Fred Hinds and wife, Gena, and Phillip Hinds and wife Susie; sister-in-law Peggy Mercer; and six grandchildren.

Sara McAdams
Sara McAdams, 88, of Madisonville died early Sunday, Oct. 3, 2004 at a hospital in Houston. Services are pending at the J.M. Day Funeral Home.

Edward Byron Holloway
Edward Byron Holloway, 70, of North Zulch died Oct. 1, 2004 at his home. Funeral services were held Oct. 4 at the Madisonville Funeral Home. Byron Holloway and Aubin Benitez officiated. Burial was in Willowhole Cemetery in North Zulch.
Mr. Holloway was born Sept. 11, 1934 in Streetman. He was raised in Donna in the Rio Grande Valley. He met and married his childhood sweetheart, May Holmes. They moved to Houston to raise their family. Holloway was a cabinetmaker for 42 years. He retired and moved to his farm in North Zulch.
Mr. Holloway was a member of the Church of Christ and served as a Deacon for many years. He was in the Naval Reserve during the Korean Conflict. He loved to hunt, fish and care for his animals and work his land. His greatest joy was his family.
His parents, Byron and Bell Lamb Holloway; a brother, Dale Holloway; and two sisters, Hazel Holloway and Jean Agan, precede him in death.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Mary Holloway of North Zulch; two sons and daughters-in-law, Byron and Christol Holloway of Houston and Doug and Tammy Holloway of St. Petersburg, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Beverly and Aubin Benitez of Houston and Connie and Mark Cole of Wichita, Kan.; three sisters, Dorothy Hardy of Rockport, Helen Taylor of Eastland and Paulene Gurden of North Muskegon, Mich.; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Mr. Holloway's grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of St. Joseph's Cancer Center and the Brazos Valley Hospice for their loving care during difficult times.

Elsie Josephine Cronin
Elsie Josephine (Patsy) Cronin, 77, of Bedias, died Sept. 21, 2004 at her home. Funeral services were held Sept. 27 at the J.M. Day Chapel. Bro. Bill Montgomery officiated. Burial followed at the Bedias Baptist Cemetery.
Cronin was born Oct. 17, 1926 in Sweeney to Albina (Sedlacek) and Ruben Leaser. She and her husband Jack were married in 1946. She loved hummingbirds and had an enormous collection of hummingbird collectibles. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother and will be dearly missed.
Cronin was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Alvin Douglas Cronin; and one sister, Mary Adams.
She is survived by her husband Alvin Jack Cronin of Bedias; son, Tommy Parker and wife Louella of Bedias; three daughters, Esther Cronin Gardner of Bedias, Brenda House and husband Jerry of Houston, and Beverly Bryant and husband Bobby of Crosby; one brother, Case Frank "Bo" Leaser of Theriot, La.; four sisters, Christin James of Markham, Annie Zimbo of El Campo, Nora Bucek of Bay City, and Alice Danner and Lynn of Mexia; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Nicholas "Nick" Michael Grivich
Nicholas "Nick" Michael Grivich, loving husband, father and grandfather died in the late night hours of June 19, 2004, after a sudden, brief illness. His family had kept a month long vigil at his bedside while he was hospitalized at the Madison County-St. Joseph Hospital in Madisonville.
Nick was born December 13, 1917, in Mountain Iron, Minn., to Anne Lucy and Martin Michael Grivich. He was the third child and oldest son of eight children born to his immigrant parents.
Nick attended the Mountain Iron schools where he learned to speak English, study hard and play sports. He graduated from Mt. Iron High School in 1935 and then served two years as a corporal in the CCC, Civilian Conservation Corp. Then he won a football scholarship to nearby Virginia Jr. College and later to George Washington University in Washington, D.C. After a football injury sidelined him, Nick transferred to Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville at the suggestion of two cousins, John and Joe Grivich, who were already there. Nick hitchhiked his way from Washington, D.C. and arrived in Huntsville with only $2.75 in his pocket. He worked hard and graduated from Sam Houston in 1940 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. Then he began a teaching career. However, this was cut short when WWII broke out, and Nick was inducted into the United States Army in March of 1941. Nick served as a logistics officer and saw action in the European theater during World War II. He separated with an honorable discharge as a captain in the U.S. Army in 1945.
In the meantime, Nick and Mary Winifred Corley were married on December 23, 1942, in Beaumont, while he was on a short leave from officer training.
After the war Nick received his Master of Arts degree in Education in 1948 at Sam Houston die to the GI Bill.
Nick and Winifred lived in Elkart for a number of years, but raised their family in Winnie, where he was principal and Superintendent of Schools for the East Chambers Consolidated I.S.D. from 1956-1978. Nick devoted years of service to helping students, parents and teachers in the E.C.C. schools. He was dedicated to providing the best education possible for the children of that community. He also contributed to the St. Louis Catholic Church, Lion's Club, Optimist Club and many other civic endeavors.
After his retirement to Elwood in 1978, Nick worked at the Madison County Hospital in the purchasing office and later as a volunteer in the Hospital Auxiliary. He was also actively involved in the Madisonville Retired School Personnel Association, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
And, when it came to helping people, Nick was a loyal friend and a true humanitarian. He always met people with a handshake, a smile or a wave. He loved to visit and share a story or two, and he especially loved to share his homegrown tomatoes with everyone. In short, his was a life spent in service to others.
Nick was very proud of his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Mary Winifred Corley Grivich and beloved children: Pat and Terrie Grivich of Arlington; Leanne and Mac Woodward of Huntsville; and Julie and Harold Benkoski of Austin.
Nick is also survived by his dear grandchildren: Anne Woodward, Wilbourn Woodward, Shane Grivich and Ryan Grivich.
He is also survived by three sisters: Helen G. McCarthy and Mary G. Chamberlain of Virginia, Minn.; and Ange G. Kjer of Powder Springs, Ga.; and by three sisters-in-law: Rose C. Peck and Ruth C. Closs of Madisonville and Mrs. Larry Corley, formerly of Huntsville. He is also survived by many other extended family members and friends.
Nick was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.
Pallbearers are Pat Grivich, Shane Grivich, Wilbourn Woodward, Mac Woodward, Harold Benkoski, Jamison Parker, Clyde Parker and John Seitz.
Honorary pallbearers are Marty Grivich, Ray Willis, Galen Dodson, Murdolph Walker, Roy Tulley, Sam Rizzo, Tom Martin, Bubba Corley and Larry Peck.
A memorial service for Nick was held at the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church of Madisonville on Tuesday, June 22. Graveside services followed at Allphin Cemetery in Elwood. Deacon Burke Landry and Father Michael Barone officiated. Nick lied in state Monday at Madisonville Funeral Home with the family receiving visitors and a rosary.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a gift in memory of Nick Grivich are asked to contribute to a scholarship fund an any public school or to a scholarship fund at Sam Houston State University.

Margie Cheatham Polk
Margie Cheatham Polk, 81, of Houston died May 30, 2004. Funeral services will be held June 3 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, with the interment following at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends tonight from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
Polk was born in Bedias on December 29, 1922 to R.M. and Neelie Cheatham.
She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 40 years Virgil Dean Polk.
Her survivors include her daughter, Patsy Fitzgerald and husband, Frank and grandson, Blake Fitzgerald; her step-son, Larry D. Polk, and wife, Neda; granddaughter, Joyce Lea Boudreaux, and her husband, Kirk and great-grandsons, Steven and Jourdan; and granddaughter, Lisa Jeanine Polk; and other family and friends.
Polk loved God and her church, First Methodist; her Adelphi Sunday School Class, and Pacesetters Singers. She was on or chaired many committees at church and was honored to be a member of their board in the 1990's. Margie was accomplished on the piano & accordian, but was best known for her accordian accompaniment. She started her music ministry as a teenager, playing for gospel quartets, and singing conventions.
Her Adelphi friends fondly remember her playing while they sang hymns by the lake at Lakeview retreats with her proud grandson, Blake, turning the music pages for her. Margie enjoyed positions with the Houston Credit Women's Group, was retired from the Schlumberger Credit Department after almost 40 years.
Margie and her family are grateful to all her friends on Hollygrove, to the doctors and staff at St. Luke's Hospital and for the loving care she received during her last days at Houston Hospice. Before moving to her daughters home this year Margie enjoyed her friends and life at Clarewood House Retirement Community where she had praise for the facilities and all the staff.
Rev. Clifton Martel Lamb
A memorial service for Rev. Clifton Martel Lamb were held May 29 at the Hilltop Lakes Chapel in Hilltop Lakes, Texas.
Lamb was born on March 2, 1932 and died at his home on May 23, 2004. He born in Leon County to Charlie and Nellie Lamb, the youngest of ten children. After leaving the farming community, he headed off to college where he eventually met the love of his life, Jane Carter of Houston. It was during this time, 1951, he began preaching as a Methodist minister, a vocation he maintained until his retirement in 1994 at the age of 62. During those 42 years of ministry, he served many churches as well as beginning several mission programs reaching across the globe to countries as near as Mexico and Haiti, and as distant as India. He served for several years on the staff of the Bishop of the Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church where he furthered his missions work.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Jane; his four children, Brenda Lamb, Connie Bloxom and husband Jim, John Lamb and wife Kathy, and Steve Lamb and wife Terri; his four grandchildren, Amanda Field and husband Jason, Tracy Whitten and husband Michael, Kelly Bloxom, and Charley Lamb II; and two great-grandchildren, Mary Jane and Luke Field. He is also survived by a large extended family, including his brothers, Rev. Lee Lamb and Rev. J.B. Lamb and his sister Fannie Shadix.
Due to his lifelong devotion to missions, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) through any local United Methodist Church, or mailed to UMCOR, 475 Riverside Drive, Room 330, New York, NY, 10115.

Kyle Dean Ferguson
Kyle Dean Ferguson, 20, of Madisonville died Aug. 25, 2004. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28 at the First Baptist Church in Madisonville. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday evening at the First Baptist Church and again Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until the service. Revs. Gary Ladd and Reagan Cooksey will officiate, burial will follow at Allphin Cemetery.
Ferguson was a 2003 graduate of Madisonville High School and a sophomore at Texas A&M; University majoring in Construction Science. He loved sports, was gifted in art and was know as a warm and friendly person. He enjoyed the Aggie Tradition and served as a Fish Camp counselor. He was a member of Rock Prairie Baptist Church and was scheduled for marriage to Jessyka Steward in June 2005.
Ferguson is survived by his parents, Denise (Grisham) and Dean Ferguson; one brother, Kevin; fiance, Jessyka Steward; grandparents, Wanda Ferguson of Madisonville and Doyle and Fran Ferguson of Gladewater; aunts and uncles, Dave and Marie Ferguson of Pearland, Steve and Vickie Reynolds of Bedford, Treva and Bill Grisham of Chico, Shelia and Tommy McWhorter of North Zulch, Annette and Ralph Grisham of Chico, Debbie Alewine of North Zulch, and Donna and Rob Gurley of North Zulch; 19 cousins; as well as numerous extended family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Cody Crocker, Thomas McWhorter, Will McWhorter, Gordie Grisham and J.W. Alewine. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Andrew Ferguson and Robert Gurley.

Ruby Lenz Williamson
Ruby Lenz Williamson, 87, of Madisonville died Aug. 17, 2004 in Madisonville. Funeral services were held Aug. 19 at the Madisonville Funeral Home. Rev. Donnie Foster officiated. Burial was in the Fields Store Cemetery near Waller.
Mrs. Williamson was born Oct. 26, 1916 in Whitehall to Christopher and Louise Hoefelmeyer Lenz. She was a resident of Madisonville since 1976, having come from Hempstead. She was a member of the Faith Baptist Church.
Mrs. Williamson worked several jobs during her lifetime including drug stores in Hempstead, Sakowitz in Houston, the Village Inn in Madisonville and later a the Madison County Clerk's office. She loved her church and working in her yard.
She was preceded in death by her husband A.C. Williamson; daughter Audrey Williamson; three sisters, Alice, Ella and Annie; and two brothers, Herbert and Robert.
Se is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Maxine and Ercel Cannon of Madisonville; three grandchildren, Hope Pohorelsky and husband David, Dawn Trichel and husband Stephen, and Mark Cannon, all of Madisonville; and five great-grandchildren, Ashley, Kyle, Adam, Coy and Cody.
Pallbearers were Stephen Trichel, David Pohorelsky, Mark Cannon, Robert Lenz, Donnie Lenz and Kyle Pohorelsky.
