Norman Richard Michels
Norman Richard Michels, 88, of North Zulch died Aug. 16, 2004 in North Zulch. Funeral services were held Aug. 18 at the Willowhole Chapel in North Zulch. Rev. Don Semonski officiated. Burial was in Willowhole Cemetery.
Michels was born March 11, 1916 in Camp Point, Ill. to Elmer and Pearl Omer Michels. He had been a resident of Madison County since 1958 and farmer. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Michels served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II in the Alluetin Islands on the Island of Attu and also in Italy. He loved gardening, he raised some of the best tomatoes in the area and he also enjoyed working in his shop building small items.
His parents; his wife, Mary Ruby Michels; three brothers; and a sister preceded him in death.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Nell Michels of North Zulch; daughter Shirley Michels of College Station; sister, Betty Chloe Wiggs of Grand Prairie; five grandchildren, Greg Michels, Serena Resendez, John Wilson, David Wilson and Lisa Flores; and six great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Jessica, Erin, Miranda, Crystal and Amanda.
Pallbearers were Greg Michels, Darrell Michels, Larry Michels, Roger Baylor, Jim Whitley and Kim Resendez.

Emma Rae Green
Emma Rae Green, 88, of Madisonville died Aug. 12, 2004 in Madisonville. Funeral services were held Aug. 19 at Hopewell Missionary Baptist Church in Midway. Rev. Harold Franklin officiated. Burial was in West End Memorial Cemetery in Madisonville.
Mrs. Green was born Aug. 31, 1915 in Madison County, where she was a lifelong resident. She accepted God at an early age and served on the Usher Board for many years and was a missionary. She was a devoted and caring wife, mother and grandmother.
Her parents; husband, Roland Green; and son, Lee Odis Green preceded her in death.
She is survived by seven children, James Green and wife Linnie, Mary Dixon and husband Richard, and Virgie McNelty and husband English, all of Houston, and Jessie Green, Bennie Green, Narvis Lewis, and Modester House and husband Henry, all of Madisonville; two sisters, Arlean Duncan of Madisonville and Rosie Lee Daniels of Irving; sister-in-law Erma Lee Curtis of Huntsville; granddaughter Marjorie Holiday of Austin; 23 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and five great great-grandchildren. Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive her.
Pallbearers were Dec. George Word, Henry L. House, Jr., Roderick Holiday, Arthur Glen, Florian Molano and Tommy Hartfield.
Honorary Pallbearers were English McNelty, Jessie Green, Richard Dixon, Bennie Green, Henry House and James Green.

Pauline Parrish Gilbert
Pauline Parrish Gilbert, 90, of Madisonville died Aug. 15, 2004 in Madisonville. Funeral services were held Aug. 21 at Shilo Baptist Church.
Gilbert was born April 3, 1914 in Madisonville. She was secretary of New Freedom Baptist Church and taught Sunday School. She loved to garden and grow flowers.
Her parents, Johnny Parrish and Bertha Brown Parrish; husband, Goree Gilbert; three brothers; and two sisters precede her in death.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, George E. Bibbs and Lena Bibbs of Pearland; daughter, Florence Birdwell of Forth Worth; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

John Carrol Decker
John Carrol Decker, 70, of College Station died Aug. 22, 2004 at St. Joseph's Regional Health Center in Bryan. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today graveside at the Madisonville City Cemetery. The family will greet visitors at the grave prior to the funeral.
Decker was born May 24, 1934 in Plantersville to Mary Sechelski and Marvin Decker. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He loved fishing, being outdoors, John Wayne and Western movies, and his dog Bear. He died after a long fight with cancer.
Decker is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Laverne and William Decker; and one sister, Sally Ann Borski.
He is survived by one son, John M. Decker of College Station; three daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Arthur Kami of Bryan, Tina and Zeke Mireles of Bryan, and Cheryl and Mike Garcia of College Station; two sons and daughter-in-law, Bobby Cox of Bastrop and Carl and Linda Cox of Bryan; two grandsons, Scott and Joey Garcia of College Station; granddaughter, Megan Cox of San Angelo; grandson, Robert Cox of Melbourne, Fla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Ruby and David Kimich of Anderson; two sisters, Betty Jo Alford of Mississippi and Bertie Cone of Houston; former wife Mary Decker of Bryan; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Leatruss Phillips Taylor
Funeral services for Leatruss Phillips Taylor, 85, of Huntsville were held Aug. 14, 2004 at the Bedias Baptist Church. Rev. Jerald Brown officiated. Interment followed at the Bedias Baptist Cemetery.
Taylor was born March 5, 1919 in Limestone County. Mrs. Taylor was a member of the Chapelwood Baptist Church in Huntsville.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Elton Taylor and a daughter, Susan Wooderson.
Taylor is survived by three sons, Ross Taylor and wife, Virginia of Huntsville, Robert Taylor and wife, Barbara of Huntsville and Richard Taylor and wife, Jackie of Bedias; brother, Leon Phillips and wife, Ruth of Quitman; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
Her grandsons served as pallbearers.

Charlotte Hallie Snow Perkins
Charlotte Hallie Snow Perkins, 86, of Bedias died Aug. 14, 2004 at the Madisonville Care Center. Funeral services were held Aug. 16 at the J.M. Day Funeral Home Chapel in Madisonville. Rev. Gerald Brown officiated. Burial followed at the Bedias Methodist Cemetery.
Mrs. Perkins was born Sept. 1, 1917 in Bedias to Zula Robinson and Albert Dove Snow. She later married Emory Perkins. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Bedias and was retired from Sears.
She was proceeded in death by her parents; husband; son, Carroll Johnson; and brother, Glen Snow.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Glenda and Butch Thompson of Santa Fe and Ann and Joe Hall of Pasadena; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve and LeAnn Perkins of Pasadena; one sister, Mildred Surguy of Rosebud; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many friends and other relatives.

Linda Joyce Dossett
Linda Joyce Dossett died Aug. 13, 2004. A memorial service will take place on Aug. 20 at Mesquite Hill Baptist Church in Madisonville beginning at 2 p.m.
Dossett was born Jan. 28, 1953 in Houston where she lived and worked for most of her life. She moved to Madison County in November of 1995.
Dossett is survived by her son, James Riddle; granddaughter, Maycee Rebecca Harmon; mother, Trudy Casey of Midway; one sister, Deborah Eakin of Madisonville; three brothers, Ray Eakin of Riverside, Johnny Eakin of Hardin and Billy Eakin of Deer Park; three nephews, Billy Ray Eakin, Jerry Wayne Eakin and Douglas Eakin; three nieces, Trudi Eakin of Madisonville, Amanda Eakin and Heather Eakin Rochow; great-nephew, Hunter Ray Eakin; and two sisters-in-law, Becky Byrd and Jackie Rowell.
The family would like to thank Dossett's Christian family, Bro. DeWitt Rowe, Reed and Betty Ann Reynolds, Betty Ann Allen, Bink and Ricky Driskell, Frank and Billie Duncan, James and Ella Neeley, Paul and Hilda Zutter, and Beth Spiller, who in the past two years have shown Linda unconditional love and spiritual guidance and encouraged her to walk, even on a walker, the full length of the football field by herself in Relay for Life, Cancer Walk 2003, which was one year longer than the doctors had given her to live. She lived two years longer than the doctors anticipated and was an inspiration to all of the church members and showed everyone that in many ways prayer does work.

Emily Beatrice Whitten
Emily Beatrice Whitten, 73, of Madisonville died July 27, 2004 in Madisonville. Funeral services were held July 30 at the Madisonville Funeral Home Chapel. Don Willis assisted by Lanier Stevens officiated. Burial was in the Park Cemetery.
Whitten was born on Nov. 1, 1930 in Madison County to J.C. and Sara Karber Rhodes. She graduated from Madisonville High School in 1947 and was a member of the Highway 90 Church of Christ. Whitten worked for the Agriculture Soil and Conservation Service office in Madison County, after retiring she and her husband of 55 years, Harold Whitten, moved to Lake Livingston near Trinity. They returned to Madisonville in 1995. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, needlepoint and making quilts.
She is survived by her husband, Harold Whitten of Madisonville; son, David Wayne Whitten of Wylie; daughter, Cynthia Ann Stevens and husband Roy of Madisonville; two sisters, Kathryn Turpin of Madisonville and Wanda Miller of Pearland; mother, Sara Karber Rhodes of Madisonville; two grandchildren, Candice Collins and Amanda Vance; and four great-grandchildren, Cameron, Schieler and Emily Collins and Ian Vance.
Pallbearers were Mark Norman, Ronnie Norman, Clint Vance, Matt Miller, Bruce Karber and Randall Karber.

Tommy A. Provence, Jr.
Tommy A. Provence, Jr., 56, of Bastrop died July 18, 2004 in Bastrop. Funeral services were held July 20 at Marrs-Jones Chapel in Smithville.
Provence was born Jan. 21, 1948 to Tommy A. Provence, Sr. and Dorothy Y. Provence.
Provence was a member of the Austin Chapter VFW Post 856, Texas Association of Vietnam Veterans, Marine Corps League, Military Order of the Purple Heart chapter 1919. He also served as Madisonville Little League President and was a Madison County Veteran's officer.
He is survived by his wife, Olga L. Provence of Bastrop; son, Gearold D. Provence of Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii; three daughters, Kelsey M. Lashely of Enterprise, Ala., Yvette L. Provence and Lia N. Provence, both of Bastrop; brother, John D. Provence of Exeter, Calif.; two sisters, Elaine A. Tackman of Elmwood, Ill. and Patricia L. Hoyos of Exeter, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Hugh Lee Dillon
Hugh Lee Dillon, 75, died July 28, 2004 in Waco. Funeral services were held July 31 at Huntsville Funeral Home Chapel with interment at Brooke Cemetery in Huntsville. Dillon was born in Madisonville.
Olive Ione Bullard White
Funeral services for Olive Ione "Sookie" Bullard White, 92, of Madisonville were held June 25, 2004 at the First Baptist Church in Madisonville. Lanier Stevens, assisted by Rev. Gary Ladd officiated and burial followed at the Bethel Cemetery.
Mrs. White was born May 29, 1912 in the Bullard Community in Madison County. She was the daughter of Kirk Preston and Mattie Tuck Bullard. There were nine children in her family. The Bullard family was one of the pioneer families who settled Madison County in the 1860s. They donated land for the Bullard School and Mrs. White attended school there for several years as a young child.
Mrs. White graduated from Madisonville High School as Valedictorian in 1929. She attended Sam Houston Teacher's College for one semester and taught in the Cottonwood Community for a short time. She then went to Beauty College and worked with her sister for a short time. She then opened her own shop "The Metropolitan Beauty Shop" in Bryan for eight years. She and her husband then moved to Kennedy, where they lived for nearly 40 years. She moved back to Madisonville in 1989. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Madisonville and involved in many activities in the community.
Mrs. White was a volunteer at the Sonshine Center for 14 years. She was also instrumental in providing the funding for the Madison County Museum.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Byron Martin White; her parents, Kirk and Mattie Tuck Bullard; her sister, Ludie; and brothers, Joe, Sherman, Ray, Badge, Cecil and Herbert.
Her surviving family members include a daughter and son-in-law, Martha Ann and Larry Maxon of Wickenburg, Ariz.; son, Byron White of Universal City; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Barrett White of Houston; sister, Glen Iris "Tootsie" Bullard Capo, of Beaumont; two grandchildren, Byron Joseph White and wife, Cheryl, and Allen Sherman White; and two great-grandchildren, Katrina May White and Joseph Martin White; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Bobby Bleaker, Pat Bullard, Michael Capo, John Short, R.J. Stout and Richard Tidwell.
