Billy Halbert Lacy

Funeral services for Billy Lacy, 78, of Bedias were conducted Thursday, Sept. 18 at the Madisonville Funeral Home. Burial followed at the Bedias Baptist Cemetery. Rev. James Slocum officiated.

Lacy was born on April 16, 1925 to Ray Stephen and Jonnie Louisa (Woosley) Lacy and died on Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2003 at his home in Bedias.

He was born and raised in Beaumont and graduated from Galveston High School. He was a 1949 graduate of Texas A&M; University. Lacy retired as a manager for John L. Wortham Insurance Agency in Houston and in 1978 moved to Bedias where he enjoyed the quiet rural country life. Lacy was a veteran of WWII having served in the U.S. Navy.

Memorials may be made to: Thee Hospice, 3100 IH 45, Huntsville, Texas, 77340.

Survivors include a wife, Yvonne Lacy of Bedias; four sons and daughter-in-laws, Bill and Sharron Lacy, Jr. of Conroe, John and Lisa Lacy of Kingwood, Scott and Rebecca Lacy of Houston, and Kyle and Kathy Lacy of Houston; four step-children, Cheryl and James Kersh of Katy, and Jerrel and Cheryl Sheffield of Bedias; a sister, Betty Lacy Gentry of Knoxville, Tenn., two grandchildren, Brock Lacy and Heather Lacy; and two step-grandchildren, January Tipton and April Sheffield.

Pallbearers include, Bill Lacy, Jr., John Lacy, Scott Lacy, Kyle Lacy, Jerrel Sheffield and James Kersh.

Madisonville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Bobby Merle Drake

Funeral services for Bobby Merle Drake, 68, of Madisonville were conducted Friday, Sept. 9, 2003 at the Madisonville Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Midway Cemetery. Rev. Dennis Ivey officiated.

Drake was born July 7, 1935 to Lemuel and Louise (May) Drake and died on Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003 in Bryan. He lived in Madisonville most of his life. He owned Drakes Lumber in Normangee. He worked for Brown and Root for 10 years and was building superintendent for Statewide Homes in Hilltop Lake. He also worked for W.G. Wilson Construction. He was former owner of Drakes Auto Parts. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alene on May 18, 1999.

Survivors include a wife, Nancy Drake of Madisonville; three sons and two daughters-in-laws, Bobby and Debra Drake, Darrell and Denise Drake and Nelson Drake, all of Madisonville; a step-daughter, Shabana of Madisonville; two brothers, Lemuel Drake and Charles Drake, all of North Zulch; three half brothers, Travis Mathis of Caldwell, Otis Drake and Durwood Drake, both of Canyon; a sister, Mildred Kindt of North Zulch; a half-sister, Johnnie Sue Crouch of Brazoria; four grandchildren, Gaylon Drake, Amanda Drake, Connor Drake and William Drake.

Pallbearers include, Sonny Knight, L.D. Thompson, Bobby Rogers, Mike Clark, Dave Ward and Joe Goodrum.

Madisonville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Virginia M. Musgrove

Memorial services for Virginia M. Musgrove, 89, of Madisonville were conducted Saturday, May 31, at the J.M. Day Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dean Ferguson officiated.

Musgrove was born in Elkins, W. Va., on May 17, 1914, to parents Solomon G. Moore, M.D. and Peri M. Moore Musgrove, and died Saturday, May 17, 2003, in Madisonville. She graduated from West Virginia University in 1935 with a degree in home economics. Upon graduation, she taught school in Bluefield, W.Va. Later, she met and married Robert A. Musgrove in 1938, and they remained married until his death in 1983. Musgrove worked for Work Projects Administration (WPS) until the outbreak of World War II. For the duration, she lived in Elkins, W. Va. After the war, she and her family lived in a number of locations around the country as her husband worked for a defense industry contractor. From 1942 until she moved to Madisonville in 1970, she was a housewife and homemaker devoted to raising her two children. Upon retirement of her husband, from Ford Aerospace Corp. in 1969, they selected Madisonville as their choice residence. For more than 30 years until she no longer could maintain independent housekeeping, she lived on Willard Street in Madisonville. She often substituted at Madisonville High School, and is still remembered by many in the community.

Survivors include son Robert "Bob" G. Musgrove and wife Eileene of Houston; daughter Susan M. Riemer and husband Jake of Houston; four grandchildren, David G. Musgrove of Houston, Susan E. Huffman of San Rafael, Calif., Jeffrey Riemer of Dallas and Samantha Riemer of Houston; and great-granddaughter Abigail Grace Huffman of San Rafael, Calif.

J.M. Day Funeral Home of Madisonville was in charge of arrangements.

Alvin "David" Matthews

Funeral services for Alvin "David" Matthews, 50, of Hilltop Lakes and formerly of Ovilla were conducted Sunday, May 25, 2003, at the Walters Funeral Home in Centerville. Rev. Dennis Ivey and Rev. Larry Ashley officiated. Burial followed in the Centerville Cemetery.

Matthews was born July 14, 1952, in Palestine to Udell and Melba Matthews, and died at his home Friday, May 23, 2003, after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by father Udell Matthews, who died in 1978.

Survivors include wife Heidi Matthews of Hilltop Lakes; three daughters, Erika Matthews and fiance Jody Young of DeSoto, Kassie Matthews and fiance Duane Shelton of DeSoto and Jolie Matthews of Hilltop Lakes; son Quentin Matthews of Kemah; granddaughter Hailey Shugart of DeSoto; mother Melba Matthews of Centerville; two brothers, Ray Matthews and wife Becky, and Larry Matthews and wife Pam, all of Centerville; sister Brendia Starns and husband Freddy of Waxahachie; nine nieces and nephews; and numerous friends.

Pallbearers included nephews Eddie Matthews, Ryan Matthews, Robert Matthews, Brad Starns, Joshua Matthews and Jason Wilkerson.

Walters Funeral Home of Centerville was in charge of arrangements.

Janie Marie Green

Funeral services for Janie Marie Green of Madisonville will be conducted Saturday, May 31, 2003, at Johnson Memorial Holiness Church in Madisonville. Elder Leroy Johnson will officiate.

A wake will be conducted Friday, May 30, 2003, at Johnson Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m.

Johnson Funeral Home of Madisonville is in charge of arrangements.

Deletha Gilbert

Funeral services for Deletha Gilbert, 26, will be Wednesday, May 28, 2003, at 2 p.m. at Wilson Chapel Methodist Church. Rev. Cedric Rouse will officiate.

She was born Aug. 6, 1976, to Darlene Gilbert and Jimmy McCoy Jr., and died Thursday, May 22, 2003. She attended school in Madisonville.

She was preceded in death by mother Darlene Gilbert; and her maternal grandparents.

Survivors include father Jimmy McCoy Jr. of Palestine; daughter Byronesha Davis; devoted friend Byron Davis; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy McCoy Sr.; six brothers, Donovan Gilbert, Jimmy Davis, LaFonza Davis, Chance Davis, Tyler McCoy and Isaiah McCoy; two sisters, Chonnussey Gilbert and Crystal Gale Davis; four aunts, Donna McCoy and husband Darrell of Bryan, Freddie Huey and husband Horace of Houston, and Mary Hopkins and husband Wendell, and Dorothy Bennett and husband Floyd, all of Madisonville; five uncles, Don Huey and wife Tonya of Houston, Larry McCoy and wife Jackie of Paulville, Okla., Jerry McCoy of Wilma, Charles McCoy and wife Tan of Madisonville, and Eric McCoy of Bryan; special "Paw-Paw" Quincy of Bryan; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Johnson Funeral Home of Madisonville is in charge of arrangements.

Terry Wayne Hinds

Funeral services for Terry Wayne "Gunner" Hinds were conducted Monday, May 19, 2003, in the chapel at Jacksonville Memory Gardens Funeral Home in Orange Park, Fla.

Hinds died May 14, 2003, after battling lung cancer. He retired after 30 years of decorated service from the United States Navy as a CWO4.

He was preceded in death by parents Charles L. Hinds and Anna Bell Hinds; and brother Charles L. Hinds Jr.

Survivors include wife Mary Ann Hinds,; daughter Karrie Rene Hinds; son Scott Gary Hinds and wife Kristin; stepdaughter Julie Ann Johnson; stepson Frank Carlton Douglas Jr.; two brothers, Charles Fred Hinds and wife, Gena, and Phillip Hinds and wife Susie; sister-in-law Peggy Mercer; and six grandchildren.

The family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Northeast Florida, 4266 Sunbeam Rd., Jacksonville, Fla., 3225,7 or Fisher House Foundation Inc., 1401 Rockville Pike, Suite 600, Rockville, Md.
