MISSION -- Ruth L. Watson, 77, died March 18, 1998, at McAllen Medical Center.
Born in Everson, Penn., Mrs. Watson had lived in Mission for 19 years. She was a registered nurse.
Survivos include her husband, Wilmer Watson of Mission; daughters, Margi Peterson of Ingleside, Texas, Marilyn Miller of South Padre Island, Texas, and Debra Wallhead of Elyria, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. today, Friday, March 20, 1998, at Virgil Wilson Mortuary in Mission. Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 21, 1998, at Maranatha Baptist Church on Ware Road. The Rev. George Hall will officiate. Interment will be at Scottdale Cemetery in Scottdale, Penn.

McALLEN -- Fidela Fuentes, 64, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 1998, at Columbia Rio Grande Regional Hospital.
Mrs. Fuentes was born on August 1, 1933, in Rio Grande City and was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Gumaro Fuentes; two sons, Hector Luis Garza of Laredo and Gumaro Fuentes Jr. of Edinburg; six daughters, Jamie Griego of Hereford, Texas, Maria Alma Martinez, Norma Linda Fuentes of McAllen, Leticia Peña of Edinburg, Elizabeth Laughlin of Mission and Thelma Lou Ritter of New Jersey; one brother, Pedro C. Muñiz of McAllen; two sisters, Lydia Rangel and Felicia Castro, both of McAllen.
Viewing and visitation began on Thursday, March 19, 1998, beginning at 10 a.m. and continuing through 9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. at Ceballos Funeral Home of McAllen. Funeral Mass will be held today, Friday, March 20, 1998, at 11:30 a.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in McAllen. Burial will follow at La Piedad Cemetery.

RIO GRANDE CITY -- Calixtro Gonzalez, 91, of Los Arrieros, Texas, died Wednesday, March 18, 1998, at his residence.
He is survived by two sons, Raul Rene Gonzalez and Reynaldo Gonzalez; one daughter, Amparo G. Lopez, all of Los Arrieros, Texas; one brother, Margarito Gonzalez of Roma, Texas; one sister, Luz Elena Gonzalez of Los Arrieros, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

EDINBURG -- Genoveva Hinojosa, age 81, died Thursday, March 19, 1998, in Edinburg. She was a resident of Edinburg.

ALAMO -- Earl J. Runge, 77, of Alamo, died Wednesday, March 18, 1998, at McAllen Medical Center.
Born in Kimball, S.D., Mr. Runge had lived in Alamo since 1969. He was formerly of Wayland, Mo., and a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo and the Holy Name Society.
Mr. Runge was married on January 5, 1949, in Keokuk, Iowa.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Runge of Alamo; seven sons, James Runge of Alta Vista, Kan., David Runge and Charles Runge, both of Alamo, Lewis Runge of Corpus Christi, Texas, Andy Runge of Mission, Sgt. MARIA CRUZ YBARRA
EDINBURG -- Maria Cruz Ybarra, 87, died Saturday, March 21, 1998, in McAllen.
Mrs. Ybarra was born May 3, 1910, in Acatita, Coahuila, Mexico, to Nazario and Nicanora Cedillo. She started as a store manager in Saltillo, Mexico. She married Augustin B. Ybarra Sr. in 1944 and then came to the United States and became a U.S. citizen.
She worked at a processing plant in Quincy, Wash., until her retirement in 1976. After moving back to Edinburg, she became actively involved with Valley Interfaith, the Guadalupanas and visiting Retama Manor until her last days. She was also very active in prayer groups and politics. A very caring and compassionate person, Mrs. Ybarra counseled many people and was an honorary member of the Oblate Missionaries of San Antonio.
Survivors include her children, Jose A. (Hilda) Ybarra, Ruben C. (Lillian) Ybarra and Gloria Y. Diaz, all of Edinburg; Pedro (Ester) Ybarra, Juan (Alta) Ybarra, Amalia Y. (Jack) Rios and Felipe (Carmen) Ybarra all of Washington; Frank (Delia) Ybarra and Atanacio (Dora) Ybarra of Texas; and a sister, Micaela Cardona of Mexico; 27 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Ybarra was preceded in death by her husband, Augustin B. Ybarra Sr.; and sons, Augustin Ybarra Jr. and Jose B. Ybarra.

Mr. Rivera was born in Caldwell, Idaho, and had lived most of his life in Mission. He was a welder.

Arredondo, Evangelina (Oscar) C. Gonzalez, Elda Cantu and San Juanita Cantu, all of La Grulla; a brother, Cesario (Evelina) Zambrano of Brownsville; seven grandchildren, Barbara Arredondo, Joelda Arredondo, Eduardo Arredondo Jr., Michael Gonzalez, Jaime Gonzalez, Carina Cantu and Aaron Cantu.

Born on July 10, 1922, in Mexico, she had lived in her community of Lull for many years.
Survivors include her husband, Reynaldo Granado of Edinburg; two sons, Gabriel Pereda of Chicago, Ill., and Miguel Granado of Edinburg; six daughters, Juliette Pereda, Elva Q. Pereda and Elvia Granado, all of Edinburg, Adriana Pereda of Dallas, Texas, Mayra Pereda of Chicago, Ill. and Sandra Pereda of Reynosa, Mexico; two sisters, Juanita Laurel of McAllen and Maria Gonzalez of Minnesota; 22 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

ALBERTO GUTIERREZ
RIO GRANDE CITY -- Mr. Alberto Gutierrez, 90, passed away on Friday March 6, 1998, at his home, after a lengthy illness.
He was born the first of six children in Rio Grande City on September 19, 1907, to the late Alberto and Celedonia Garza Gutierrez.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Reynaldo Gutierrez and Gumaro Gutierrez; a sister, Felicia Gutierrez Bassinger and his parents.
Mr. Gutierrez, a businessman and rancher, lived in Rio Grande City all of his life and served as Past President for the Rio Grande City Chamber of Commerce, Past Director of the First National Bank of Rio Grande City, member of the Masonic Lodge No. 471 for 67 years, and was one of the original founding members to establish the Club de Leones de Ciudad Miguel Aleman, Tamaulipas, Mexico, in 1946 and continued his membership until his death.
He was also awarded the first Exxon distributorship in Starr County in 1930 and retired in 1982. One of his business ventures included the co-founding and co-ownership with Mr. Ruben R. Guerra of G&G; Lumber and Hardware Company with locations in Rio Grande City and Roma, Texas.
He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Guadalupe Gutierrez; four sons, Dr. Alberto Gutierrez and his wife Clare of Rio Grande City, Homero Gutierrez of Los Fresnos, Texas, Roberto Gutierrez and his wife Adriana of Rio Grande City, Ricardo Gutierrez of Rio Grande City; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elma Gutierrez of Rio Grande City and Delta G. Smith of McAllen.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Ricardo Gutierrez, Jr., Christian (Tan) Gutierrez, Carlos Gutierrez, Omar Gutierrez, Homero Gutierrez Jr. and Alfonso Perez. Honorary pallbearers will be Ruben R. Cardenas, Dario Guerra, Lino Perez, J.L. Villarreal, Jose Luis Coindreau and Jose Maiz Garcia.

EDINBURG -- Porfiria Saldivar Aguilera, 83, entered eternal rest on Saturday, March 7, 1998, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco.
Born September, 15, 1914, in La Feria, she had lived in Edinburg for most of her life. She was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Edinburg.
Survivors include her loving husband, Roberto Aguilera of Edinburg; her children, David (Teresa) Aguilera, Paula (Roberto) Villarreal, Carmen Aguilera and Irene Salinas, all of Edinburg, Adelaida (Bernardo) Flores of Aurora, Ill., Roberta (Alfredo) Gonzalez of Dallas, Texas and Virginia (Adan) Aguirre of Grand Prairie, Texas; 21 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

FRED LeROY HANSLER JR.
YORKTOWN -- Fred LeRoy Hansler Jr., 71, died Friday, March 6, 1998.
Mr. Hansler was originally from Runge, Texas, and formerly of the Midland-Odessa area. He was born on April 25, 1926, in Donna.
He owned Snelling and Snelling Employment Agency in Midland-Odessa, Texas, and retired in 1989. He was a member of Rabke Methodist Church of Yorktown.
He graduated from Trinity University, class of 1951, and was a member of the Odessa and Midland Kiwanis Clubs. He owned a horse that participated in the Pentathalon in the Atlanta Olympics, and served in the U.S. Navy.
He was preceded in death by his father, Fred L. Hansler, Sr.; his mother, Ruth Vohs Hansler; brothers, Mearl Hansler, Lee Hansler, Bob Hansler; a sister, Myrtle Snavely.
Survivors include his wife, Myrna Hansler of Runge, Texas, whom he married on July 3, 1951, in San Antonio, Texas; a daughter, Dana Texter of Eugene, Ore.; his sons, Bob Lee Hansler of Odessa, Texas and Fred L. Hansler III of Midland, Texas; two brothers, Joe Hansler and Harry Hansler of Corpus Christi, Texas; and six grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. today, Sunday, March 8, 1998, at Rabke Methodist Church in Yorktown with the Rev. Tad Tadlock officiating. Burial will follow at Rabke Cemetery. Memorials can be set to Rabke Methodist Church.

Born in Edinburg on May 19, 1944, he was a life long resident.
Mr. Luna was preceded in death by his father, Anastacio Luna in 1952.

EDINBURG -- Jose R. Anaya, 57, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 1998.
He was retired from the city of Edinburg, and enjoyed fishing. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, a very good father, husband, grandfather and brother.

McALLEN -- Vicente Garcera Jr., 73, died on Saturday, March 7, 1998, at McAllen Nursing Center.
He was born on Oct. 6, 1924 in Valencia, Spain.
Survivors include his spouse, Eva Yolanda Cruz Garcera of McAllen; one son, Charles Vincent Garcera of San Bernardino, Calif.; one daughter, Yolanda D. Stahlke of McAllen; two sisters, Carmen Garcera and Luisa Garcera, both of Valencia, Spain; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Vicente Garcera and Aqueda San Joaquín.
Graveside service will be at noon Wednesday, March 11, 1998, at Valley Memorial Gardens in McAllen. There will be no other local services for Mr. Garcera. His body will be cremated at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in McAllen, under the direction of Ceballos Funeral Home in McAllen.
