REV. EMMA G. BOCANEGRA
FORT WORTH – Rev. Emma G. Bocanegra, 68, died Friday, January 15, 1999, in Fort Worth. Rev. Bocanegra was born August 20, 1930, in Mission. She was a Minister.
Rev. Bocanegra was a Minister with the Assemblies of God, G.L.A.D. District. She served as District "Y" Director, Forth Worth Section Women’s Ministries Coordinator, local Sunday School Teacher, Women’s Prison Chaplain and much more.
Rev. Bocanegra was preceded in death by her brother, Pedro Gonzalez. She is survived by her children’s father, Domingo Bocanegra Sr.; three sons, Domingo "Dominic" Bocanegra, Jr., of San Jose, CA, Daniel Bocanegra and David Bocanegra, both of Forth Worth; four daughters, Gloria Ramos of Forth Worth, Texas, Norma Lopez of Boise, Idaho, Cynthia Garcia and Linda Fabian, both of Waxahachie, Texas, and Emma Leal of Ft. Worth, Texas; parents, Isidro Gonzalez and Juanita Rodriguez Gonzalez; a brother, Raymond Gonzales of Mission; three sisters, Susie Botello of Mission, Carmen Gonzalez of San Antonio, Texas, and Donna Ortega of McAllen; 22 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Monday, January 18, 1999, at Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Worth, Texas. Funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. today, Tuesday, January, 19, 1999, at Greenwood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Park.

McALLEN – Mrs. Rosalva M. Mata, age 38, passed away at Regional Medical Center on Jan. 17, 1999. The funeral home chapel will open at 10 a.m. today, Jan. 19, 1999. NICOLAS VILLEGAS
MISSION – Nicolas Villegas, 84, died Saturday, January 16, 1999, at Mission Hospital. Mr. Villegas was born in Mercedes, and had lived in Mission for the past 80 years. He was a retired dry cleaner.
Mr. Villegas was a member of one of Mission’s pioneer families. The Villegas family came to Mission in 1917, and has been a major influence in the Mission community. He was also a WW II veteran who proudly served his country.
Mr. Villegas is survived by a sister, Felipa Villegas of Mission; numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Monday, January 18, 1999, at Virgil Wilson Chapel in Mission. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. today, January 19, 1999, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church, with Father Roy Snipes officiating. Interment will follow at San Jose Cemetery in Mission.
The family suggests that memorials be sent to the Placida V. Davis Scholarship, 700 Miller, Mission.

DONNA – Mr. Lorenzo P. Rodriguez, 70, entered eternal rest Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at McAllen Medical Center in McAllen. Born Aug. 10, 1928, Mr. Rodriguez was a lifelong resident of Donna, where he worked as a lift truck operator.
Mr. Rodriguez is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Refugia H. Rodriguez of Donna; two daughters, Maria (Teodulo) Alvarado of Donna and Esmeralda (Juan) Constante of Raymondville; a son, Lorenzo Rodriguez Jr. of Donna; a step-son, Reyes (Maria) Campos of Donna; two brothers, Roberto (Lucina) Rodriguez and Artemio (Maria) Rodriguez of Donna; four sisters, Teresa (Candito) Vasquez, Virginia (Juan) Hinojosa, Rebecca (Isidro) Matamoros of Houston, and Jacinta (Adrian) Vasquez of Monterrey; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

DONNA – Mr. Manuel Valdez Sr., 71, entered eternal life early Monday morning, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco, after a lengthy illness.
Born March 19, 1927, in Rio Bravo, Mexico, Mr. Valdez resided in Donna, where he was employed as a mechanic for many years.
Mr. Valdez is survived by his loving wife, Amelia H. Valdez of Donna; two sons, Manuel (Alma) Valdez Jr. of Weslaco and Carlos (Lily) Valdez of Donna; three daughters, Rosa Elia Valdez of Sacramento, California, Irma (Frank) Zuniga of Alamo and Noelia (Richard) Salinas of Weslaco; one sister, Consuelo Ochoa of Reynosa; nine grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Visitation for family and friends will take place from 1 to 7 p.m. today, Jan. 19, 1999, with a 7 p.m. rosary service at Donna Memorial Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Donna City Cemetery.

EDINBURG — Opal Roethemeyer, 84, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, in Dallas.
A former Edinburg resident, Mrs. Roethemeyer had been living in a retirement home near her daughter in Garland. She was a member of the Rebeccas and a member of the 1st Lutheran Church in Edinburg.
Survivors include 2 sons, Jimmy Roethemeyer of Clute and Wayne Roethemeyer of Kingwood; a daughter, Rosemary and son-in-law, Jerry McCormac of Garland; a brother, Lionel Larson of Edinburg; three sisters, Frances Wilhelmson, Arlene Emarine and Evelyn Aupperle, all of North Platte, Neb. She is also survived by 10 granchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil Roethemeyer.
Funeral service will be held today, Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at 11 a.m. at Skinner-Silva Funeral Home Chapel in Edinburg, with Pastor Jim Wilken officiating. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens.

DONNA – Dionicia Arriaga Gonzalez, 86, entered eternal life on Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco after a lengthy illness.
Born Feb. 4, 1912, in Donna to the late Estanislado Arriaga and Lorenza Rivera, Ms. Gonzalez was a lifelong resident of Donna.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Esteban C. Gonzalez in 1990.
Ms. Gonzalez is survived by her son, Eleazar Alex ``Mary’’ Gonzalez of Donna, her loving grandchildren, Alejandro ``Alex’’ Gonzalez and Crystal Gonzalez of Donna; four brothers, Jesus and Joel Arriaga, both of Donna, Felix Arriaga of Owosso, Mich., and Florencio Arriaga of Donna; and a sister, Antonia A. Guerrero of Donna.
Visitation for family and friends will be from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999. SULLIVAN CITY — Pablo O. Pena died Saturday, Jan. 16, 1999, at Mission Hospital. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maria Olivares and Alfonso Pena; and two brothers, Alfonso Pena and Eliborio Pena.
He is survived by his wife, Dominga Pena of Sullivan City; one son, Pablo Pena Jr. of Sullivan City; two daughters, San Juanita Chapa and Gabriela Quintanilla, both of Sullivan City; one brother, Genaro Pena of Freeport; two sisters, Carmen Pena of Mexico and Olga Morales of Sullivan City; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
A prayer service was recited at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at Flores Chapel. Graveside services were held at 4 p.m. Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, with burial at Benavidez Cemetery in Sullivan City.
Serving as pallbearers were Jose A. Chapa, Jose Luis Quintanilla, Alfonso Pena, Mario Pena, Guadalupe Gonzalez and Alberto Canales.

MISSION — George W. ``Cadillac’’ Johnson, 73, died in Mission (Fiesta Village). You are sadly missed by your loving wife, Mary Kay; daughters, Linda Ackland (James), Jennifer Michaletz (Robert), and Kathryn Pedron (Stephen); stepdaughters, Marlys Thell (Charles), Monica Smith and Donna Sonnick; 11 grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and sisters, Amy Johnson, Helen Hawkinson, Shirley Almberg (Gordon) and Dotty White.

SARAH MAE MC ALPIN
WESLACO — Sarah Mae Mc Alpin, 93, died Monday, Jan. 18, 1999, at John Knox Village in Weslaco. Mrs. Mc Alpin had been a longtime resident of Weslaco. She was a member of the Knapp Medical Center Auxiliary and had been a very active member of the First Baptist Church, where she had been in charge of the nursery and took care of its members’ children for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Mc Alpin and her son, Coyce Mc Alpin.
Mrs. Mc Alpin is survived by three sons, Reece Mc Alpin of Plano, Royce Mc Alpin of Weslaco and Jim Mc Alpin of Somers Pointe, N.J.; and four daughters, Mary Mc Alpin of Pharr, Jean Clark of Media, Pa., Sue Mc Mann of Highland Park, Ill. and Dene Mc Aulay of Abilene. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; three brothers; and one sister.
Visitation for Mrs. Mc Alpin will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 21, 1999, at McCaleb Funeral Home in Weslaco. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at the Weslaco City Cemetery, with the Rev. David Eaton of the First Baptist Church of Weslaco officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons.

LORENE ROBERTA SHULL
MONTE ALTO — Lorene Roberta Shull, 87, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. She was born Jan. 21, 1912, to Otto and Maude Marrs in Fowler, Kansas.
Mrs. Shull graduated from Donna High School and had attended the Art Institute of Chicago and Pan American University. She was the daughter of the developer of the Marrs Early Orange.
She is survived by her daughters, Elizabeth Chapman of San Antonio, Mary Anne Pruitt of Hope Hull, Ala., Beverly Murden of Weslaco, and Patricia Hughes of Monte Alto; her sons, James Shull of Phoenix, Ariz. and Richard Shull of Donna; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Art Shull, and one son, Robert Shull. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today, Jan. 23, 1999, at McCaleb Funeral Home Chapel in Weslaco with the Rev. Chris Voss, pastor of the First Christian Church of Donna, officating. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Park. Family members will serve as pallbearers.

WESLACO – Albert John Goerlitz, 76, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco. He was born July 27, 1922, in Oshkosh, Wis. and had lived in Neenah, Wis. for many years. He spent many years as a Winter Texan at Lakeview Park in Weslaco. Mr. Goerlitz is survived by his wife, Arline; two sons, Albert (Peggy) Goerlitz and Paul (Beth) Goerlitz; his daughter, Mary Beth (Randy) Bacon; and 15 grandchildren, all of Wisconsin. He was very active in The Love of Christ Lutheran Church of Weslaco, where a memorial service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at 2 p.m. Officaiting at the service will be the Rev. Dr. Carl A. Fredrickson. A funeral service will be held in Wisconsin at a later date.

HARLINGEN — Betty Lou Wagener Haddock, age 69, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jean Scott and Goldie Lee Wagener.
She is survived by her husband, Ronald T. Haddock of Harlingen; two sons, B.J. Theus of California, and Grey Theus of Hawaii; one daughter, Laura (David) Sparkman of Fort Worth; one sister, Sally (Bob) Nightengale of Pennsylvania, one stepson, Ron Haddock of Freeport; and four grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a..m. today, Jan. 23, 1999, at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery in McAllen.

RUTH ELIZABETH OLLENDORF
WESLACO – Ruth Elizabeth Ollendorf, 86, died Tuesday, Jan. 19, 1999, at John Knox Village in Weslaco, Texas. She was born Aug. 7, 1912, in Bowling Green, Ohio to Elizabeth Engelhardt Frost and Albert G. Frost. Her paternal grandparents were Mary Metzyr Frost and Albert G. Frost. Her paternal grandparents were Mary Metzyer Frost and Avery Frost. She married Merle F. Ollendorf on Sept. 26, 1936, and was married for 61 years. He preceded her in death on July 25, 1997. She lived in Bowling Green, Ohio from 1912-1935, in Toledo, Ohio from 1935-1974, and had resided at John Knox Village in Weslaco since 1978.
Mrs. Ollendorf graduated from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio. She retired after serving as a teacher in the Toledo Public Schools for 35 years. She was a former member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Honorary Education Society Administrators and Principals Association and the School Women’s Club. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Weslaco since 1974, and life member of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, John Albert Frost; and her sister, Margaret Frost.
No memorial services will be held. Memorials may be given to the charity of the donors choice.

PHARR – Estefana Garza, 70, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at McAllen Medical Center. Mrs. Garza was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend.
Mrs. Garza is survived by her husband, Pedro Garza of Pharr; four sons, Artemio (Chila) Garza of Reynosa, and Arnoldo (Maria) Garza, Pablo (Gloria) Garza, and Jaime (Dulia) Garza, all of Pharr; four daughters, Tina (Anselmo) Rivas of Alamo, San Juanita (Enrique) Yanez of Pharr, Lupita (Jesus) Castillo of Pharr and Madina (Salvador) Ramrez; 26 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

There will be no local services. The remains will be transferred to Reynosa, Tamps, Mexico. Viewing will be held at Valle de la Paz in Reynosa, Tamps., Mexico.

ALAMO — Martina Garza, 91, died at San Juan Nursing Home Friday, Jan. 22, 1999.
Ms. Garza was born in Villa Juarez, Nuevo Leon, Mexico and had lived in Alamo most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Jose Garza, in 1993.
She is survived by a daughter, Belen (Roberto) Sanchez of Alamo; two sisters, Rosa Guzman and Carlota Esparza, both of Alamo; two grandchildren, Maria de la Luz Sanchez of San Juan and Maria de Lourdes Sanchez of Alamo; and a great-grandson, Cristian Sanchez of San Juan.
A rosary was held at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in San Juan on Friday, Jan. 22, 1999. Funeral Mass will be held today, Jan. 23, 1999, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Alamo. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alamo.

INOCENCIO EUTIQUIO "TIQUIO’’ GARCIA
WESLACO — Inocencio Eutiquio "Tiquio’’ Garcia, 96, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at 4:30 a.m. at the Retama Manor Nursing Home in Weslaco. He was born on Dec. 28, 1902, in Cerritos, San Luis Potosi, Mexico and had been a resident of Weslaco since 1926.
He is survived by his wife, Eloisa G. Garcia of Weslaco; his son, Luis G. Reyes of Weslaco; two daughters, Sylvia Garcia of Houston and Celinda Garcia of California; his sister, Inez Villanueva of Donna; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Guadalupe Torres, in 1998, and BernabeGarcia, in 1998.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at Hawkins Funeral Home in Weslaco. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Weslaco. Burial will follow at Donna City Cemetery.

ALAMO — Maria Antonia P. Salinas, 73, of Alamo, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital.
Born in Alamo, Texas, she was a housewife.
Survivors include a daughter, Maria Isabel (Jose Manuel) Tanguma of Alamo; three grandchildren, Lori Ann Gonzalez, Joe Michael Tanguma and Johnathan Michael Tanguma; and three great-grandchildren, Rolando Rene Gonzalez, Daquari Monique De La Garza and Maria Isabel Trevino.
