DOMINGA CHAPA

WESLACO — Dominga Chapa, 86, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at her residence. A native of La Villa de Santiago, N.L., she was a longtime resident of Weslaco. She was preceded in death by her husband, Procopio Chapa; and sons, Combly Henrichson, and Baldomero and Primitivo Chapa.

She is survived by eight sons, Procopio Chapa Jr., Daniel Chapa, Casimiro Chapa, Procopio Chapa III and Horacio Chapa, all of Weslaco, Ruben Henrichson and Emilio Henrichson, both of California, and Lee Henrichson of McAllen; seven daughters, Belia Sanchez of Michigan, Oralia Lopez of Illinois, Viola Haley of New Mexico, Adelina Martinez of Tucson, Ariz., Ernestina Leal of San Juan, and Estefana Benvenutti and Guadalupe Rivera, both of Weslaco; numerous grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church.

Celebrant was Deacon Francisco Caballero. Burial followed at Highland Memorial Park. Pallbearers were Jaime Leal, Jose Rivera, Alcides Rivera, Arcadio Chapa, Omar Benvenutti and Anival Escalon.

Arrangements are under the direction of Guerra Funeral Home of Weslaco.

ROBERT T. CRAFTS

PLEASANTON, Texas – Robert T. Crafts, 88, of Pleasanton, Texas, died Friday, Feb. 12, 1999, at St. Francis Hospital in Tulsa.

Mr. Crafts was born Sept. 29, 1910 in Bellville, Kan., to Cyrus and Gertrude Rader Crafts. He married Nell Roach in Poplar Bluff, Mo., in 1932.

He worked as a service engineer for The Waukesha Motor Co. for many years. He attended Trinity Baptist church of Pleasanton, Texas and was an avid hunter.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nell Crafts, and stepson, Tom Irby.

He is survived by a son, Robert L. Crafts and daughter-in-law, Claudia Crafts of Tulsa, daughter-in-law, June Irby of Sapulpa, niece, June Gibson, great-niece, Terry Ary; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at the Green Hill Funeral Home Chapel in Sapulpa. The Rev. Charles Woodward will officiate. Interment will be held at the Green Hill Cemetery.

Owen Funeral Home of Sapulpa is in charge of arrangements.

GLADYS ALETHA WELLS

PHARR — Gladys Aletha Wells, 78, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen.

Mrs. Wells was born in Burns, Kan. and had been a resident of McAllen for 50 years. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her sisters, Doris Jewell of Richardson, and Anita Smith and her husband, Harold of Irving; one brother, Glenn Jewell and his wife, Audrey of San Juan; and her very close friend, Deane Welch of McAllen.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at Kreidler Funeral Home on North 10th Street. The family will be present to meet with friends and family from 5 to 7 p.m. A graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at Roselawn Cemetery. The Rev. Mike Jewell will officiate.

Services were entrusted to the care of Kreidler Funeral Home, Inc. in McAllen.

MARIANNE WHITTINGTON

McALLEN — Marianne Whittington, 86, died Monday, Feb. 15, 1999, at Comfort House in McAllen. She was born in Portland, Kan. to parents Dale and Mabel Fulwider.

Mrs. Whittington was a Past Worthy Matron of Elizabeth Chapter No. 142 Order of Eastern Star in Belton, Mo. and she received her 50-year pin. She was a member of First Baptist Church in McAllen.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Ken Hahn; two grandsons, Jeff Hahn and Brett Hahn; one great-grandson, Andrew; one sister, Marge Dishman; one niece; and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Whittington.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, 1999, at First Baptist Church in McAllen. Memorial contributions may be made to Comfort House Hospice, 617 Dallas, McAllen, Texas 78501.

Services were entrusted to the care of Kreidler Funeral Home, Inc. in McAllen.

FALCONIRE RODRIGUEZ

PHARR — Falconire Rodriguez, 81, of Pharr, died Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital.

Born in La Feria, Mr. Rodriguez had lived in Pharr for 20 years. He was formerly of Edinburg and had worked as a foreman in the agricultural industry.

He was preceded in death by a son, Benito Rodriguez.

Survivors include his wife, Guadalupe Rodriguez of Pharr; six sons, Falconire Rodriguez Jr., David Rodriguez and Arnold Rodriguez, all of Pharr, Reynaldo Rodriguez and Juan Alfredo Rodriguez, both of McAllen, and Eric Rodriguez of Sharyland; four daughters, Mary Ojeda of Houston, Ida Salinas of Edinburg, Janie Lyles of Pharr, and Noemi Martinez of McAllen; 28 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Esperanza Rodriguez of San Juan.

Visitation was held Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in San Juan. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, Feb. 17, 1999, at Memorial Funeral Home Chapel in San Juan. Burial will follow at Palm Valley Memorial Gardens in Pharr.

To a loving and wonderful father, we will always miss you and never forget you until we meet again.

Funeral services are under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in San Juan.

MR. ENRIQUE CARDONA

DONNA – Mr. Enrique Cardona, 53, died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999. He was born in Weslaco on July 27, 1945.

Viewing and visitations will be today, Sunday, Jan. 23, 1999, from 1 to 9 p.m. with a holy rosary to be prayed at 7 p.m. at Donna Memorial Funeral Home. Mass of Christian burial will be Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Val Verde Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Cardona is survived by his loving wife, Consuelo Cardona of Donna; a son, Darrel (Patricia) Cardona of Weslaco; grandchildren, Gerardo and Gabriel Cardona of Weslaco, and Armando Cavazos, Jr. of McAllen; brothers, Domingo (Rachel) Cardona of Alice, Benito (Elida) Cardona of Corpus Christi, and Apolinar "Puley" (Diana) Cardona of Orange, Calif.; sisters, Felipa (Guadalupe) Castro of El Paso and Maria Ninfa (Manuel) Cano of Weslaco; stepdaughters, Victoria and Veronica Pedraza, both of McAllen, Terry (Sedat) Necipoglu of McAllen, and Yolanda Pedraza of Donna; and stepsons, Paul Pedraza of Donna and Luz Noe Pedraza of Dallas. He was preceded in death by hi parents, Rafaela and Modesto Cardona.

Carrying him to his final resting place will be Darrel Cardona, David Cardona, Domingo Cardona, Sedat Necipoglu, Joe Cardona and Beto Garza, Jr.

MILDRED C. GREEN

November 29, 1915 – January 21, 1999

HARLINGEN – Mildred C. Green; beloved mother and sister, faithful wife and devoted civic leader.

Mildred Green died Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, after a brief hospitalization at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen.

Mildred, a descendent of pioneer Texas families, was born Nov. 29, 1915, in Wichita Falls to Ennis Allen and Mattie Mary Sharp Green.

Mildred graduated from Mayfair-Taylor Secretarial College in Austin. After she married E.H. (Ned) Green, Jr. on Nov. 29, 1936, they moved to Harlingen in August 1945 in order to join Ned’s parents, Martha Ford Green and E.H. Green Sr. in operating the Ozarka Water Company. Later, the Greens owned the Valley Bottled Water Company. Mildred and Ned were married 43 years at the time of his death in 1979.

Mildred had been a member of the Church of Christ in Harlingen for over 50 years. First with the 3rd and Harrison Street church and then with the 8th and Harrison congregation. She loved her church, and taught bible school for 20 years.

Mildred’s talents for organizing, researching, motivating and serving others will be remembered by her many friends across the Valley and the state. Generous and kind-hearted, Mildred was much loved by all who knew her, and will be missed. Many people called on her for advice or counseling when faced with a problem.

Mildred traveled all over the world in the 1980s and 1990s, and reluctantly gave up her travel adventures in the past few years. She was a skilled seamstress and an inspired cook. Mildred has been affiliated with many organizations, and received many awards for her years of service to the community.

Mildred is survived by her children, Ned Allen (Fay) Green of San Antonio, Carolyn Green Phillips of Austin, and Phillip Wayne (Elaine) of Kingwood; grandchildren, Susan Hebert of Port Neches, Catherino Sansing of San Antonio, Allen Thomas Green of San Antonio, Ransom David Phillips of Austin, Evan Henderson Green of Kingwood and Cynthia Marie Green of Kingwood; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Thelma Gibbons of San Antonio; a brother, Forest LaMar Green of Blessing; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home of Harlingen. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home Chapel, with Jake Vinsant officiating. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park.

Arrangements are by Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

MR. ROLANDO PENA

EDINBURG — Mr. Rolando Pena, 66, entered eternal rest on Friday, Jan. 22, 1999, at McAllen Medical Center after a sudden illness. He was born on March 2, 1932, in Mercedes to the late Fernando and Victoria Garcia. Mr. Pena was raised in San Isidro and was a resident of Edinburg for many years. He was employed by the Edinburg CISD transportation department for more than 20 years.

Mr. Pena was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he so dearly touched.

Mr. Pena is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Elia Trevino Pena; his family, Omar and Alma Pena, Rudy and Hilda Pena, Lino Pena, and Cindy and Ramiro Robledo, all of Edinburg, and Ricardo Pena of San Jose, Calif.; brothers, Roberto Pena from Alabama, Epimenio and Mario Garcia, both of Michigan; a sister, Estella Pena of Michigan; grandchildren, Ray Mercado, Michael, Monica, Desiree and Lisa Pena, Victoria Robledo and Ramiro Robledo Jr.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. with a holy rosary from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Gonzalez Funeral Home in Edinburg. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at San Isidro Catholic Church. Burial will follow to the Julia C. Trevino Cemetery in Santa Rita Ranch.

Pallbearers will be Dan Rivas, Joe Vasquez, Juan Diego Trevino, Ramon Estevis, Ramiro Robledo and Alvaro Guerra.

Funeral services are being directed by Gonzalez Funeral Home of Edinburg. .

CONSUELO LOPEZ WARE

EDINBURG — Consuelo Lopez Ware went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Jan. 23, 1999. She was born on Oct. 16, 1936, in San Isidro to Dr. Jose E. and Leonor Lopez.

Consuelo was a graduate of Brackenridge Nursing School in Austin, and a director for the TLC Adult Daycare Center in Pharr. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her and those whose lives she touched.

Consuelo is survived by her children, Thomas Joseph Ware (Wilma) of San Antonio, Dolores Ware Wiedman of Portland, Texas and Cynthia Ware Tange (Masatoshi) of San Carlos, Calif.; grandchildren, Justin and Jason Tange and Constance Alexandra Carmona and Edward Brent Carmona; brothers, Jose E. Lopez of Mission, Noe Lopez of San Isidro, Tarquino Lopez of Mission, Hildebrando Lopez of San Isidro, Carlos Lopez of Freer, Texas, Javier Lopez of Edinburg and Omar Lopez of San Isidro; and sisters, Esperanza Torres and Altagracia Reyes, both of Edinburg.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. with a holy rosary at 7 p.m. today, Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Ceballos-Diaz Funeral Home in Edinburg. Mass will be recited at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Edinburg. Burial will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at Lopez Cemetery in San Isidro.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society.

CHESTER J. HENRY

McALLEN — Chester J. Henry, 76, died at McAllen Medical Center on Friday, Jan. 22, 1999.

Mr. Henry was a retried warehouse manager with Valley Shamrock. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the South Pacific. His hobby was gardening and he enjoyed giving away his vegetables to his friends.

Mr. Henry is survived by his wife, Frankie Henry of Mission; brothers, Ralph Henry of Summerville, Ga. and Ray Henry of Mission; a sister, Ruth Henry of Houston; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers; and his parents.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today, Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Kreidler Funeral Home Chapel on North 10th Street. The family will be there to receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted by Tim Ousley of Mission Church of Christ at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at Kreidler Memorial Chapel on North Taylor Road. Burial will follow at Valley Memorial Gardens Cemetery.

JOSE "ROSIE" LONGORIA

EDINBURG — Jose "Rosie" Longoria, 58, died early Saturday morning, Jan. 23, 1999, at the Living Care Hospital of South Texas in Edinburg.

Mr. Longoria was born in Sullivan City on Aug. 25, 1940. He came to Edinburg with his family in 1953 and lived there most of his life. Mr. Longoria graduated from Edinburg High School in 1958, and Pan American College in 1965. He worked for the Austin State Schools, the Texas Department of Human Services and the Texas Attorney General.

"Rosie" was very active in the community and served on many boards. They included: Rio Grande Red Cross, Hidalgo County Housing Authority, Hidalgo County Private Industry Council, First Lutheran Church Council. And he was currently in his eighth year as a member of the Edinburg Consolidated Independent School District School Board.

"Rosie" was a very special man, and was loved by many. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. "Rosie" will be remembered as a person who always helped other people and put others before himself. When "Rosie" gave to others, he never expected anything in return.

"Rosie" was a loving husband, father and friend. He is survived by his wife of 26 years, Eva R. Longoria; three sons, Terry Bernal and wife, Cindy, David Bernal and Francisco E. Longoria; two daughters, Sandra Borrego and husband, Rene, and Margarita E. Longoria; and two grandchildren, Terry Bernal Jr. and Molly Villarreal, all of Edinburg; two sisters, Thelma Salinas and husband, Fausto, of Sullivan City, and Elma Longoria of Edinburg; much loved sisters-in-law, Delia Hendrix and husband, Jeff of De Queen, Ark., and Lupita Ruiz; brothers-in-law, Ronnie Ruiz and wife, Luz Elva, Adan Ruiz and wife, Santiaga, and Eligio Ruiz Jr., all of Edinburg; aunts and uncles; nieces and nephews; cousins; and many good friends.

Visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m. today, Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Skinner Silva Funeral Chapel on West Samano in Edinburg. A prayer service will be held Sunday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church, 302 South Sugar Road in Edinburg.

Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at Skinner Silva Funeral Home in Edinburg. Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at the First Lutheran Church in Edinburg, with the Rev. Jim Willkins officiating. Mr. Longoria will be cremated after the funeral service, no burial will be held.

Pallbearers will be the remaining four of the "Los Cinco’R’s’ de Oro", Raymundo Lopez, Domingo Rodriguez, Richard Vela, Robert Vela, Carlos Ortiz, and Richard Flores. Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Chapa, Romeo Vela, Pete Lerma, Homer Vela, Eliseo Chapa, Segifredo Infante, Ruben Garcia, Beto Longoria, Terry Canales, Jerry Champion, Dr. Adalberto Garza, Cris Trevino, Sam de la Garza, and Bobby Joe Izaguirre.

ROGELIO DAVID CASTRO

McALLEN — Rogelio David Castro, 35, died on Thursday, Jan. 21, 1999, at McAllen Medical Center. Mr. Castro was born and raised in McAllen. He was the owner and chef of Roy’s BBQ Place.

Mr. Castro is survived by his wife, Norma Lee Castro of McAllen; two daughters, Irma Michelle Garza of La Joya and Miranda Casey Castro of McAllen; three sons, Rogelio D. Castro Jr., Ricardo David Castro and Rafael Armando Castro, all of McAllen; a grandson, Lazaro Adrian Garza of La Joya; his parents, Rafael and Idolina Castro of Mission; four sisters, Connie Mora, Alicia Silva, Yolanda Mora and Sylvia Santos; and a brother, Alfredo Castro. He was preceded in death by a sister, Irma Castro Reyna in 1976; and a brother, Rafael Armando Castro Jr. in 1948.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. with a prayer service at 5 p.m. today, Sunday, Jan. 24, 1999, at Kreidler Funeral Home on North 10th Street. Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at the First Assembly of God in Mission. Burial will follow at Roselawn Cemetery.

JOHN F. GLORE

MISSION — John F. Glore, 78 , of Mission, formerly of Bryant, Ill., died at his home Sunday, July 18, 1999, at 7:05 a.m. He was born May 18, 1921, to the now-deceased William and Margaret (Brakehill) Glore of Peoria, Ill. He married the now-deceased R. Maxine (Stretch) Glore on Feb. 9, 1943. He was remarried to his surviving wife, Maria Reyna (Guzman) Glore in Mission.

He is survived by his three daughters, Joyce Chambers of Lewistown, Ill., Sharon Domont of Springlake, Mich., and Nancy Overhalt of Kokomo, Ind.; adopted daughter, Cristal (Guzman) Glore of Monterrey, Mexico; sister, Sally Borton of Peoria, Ill., a brother, Bill Glore of Decatur, Ill.; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, John David Glore; and two sisters, Edna Garber and Eunice Wright.

John worked in the coal mines at Ellis Vilkeo, Ill., was a veteran ofWorld War II, farmed most of his life and worked at and retired from Caterpillar Tractor Company in Peoria, Ill. In 1983 the they moved to Mission. He was a volunteer at the Rio Grande Children’s Home for several years, drove a van for senior citizens and delivered meals to the shut-ins in the Rio Grande Valley. John was well known for his sense of humor, a giving heart and his integrity with people.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at the chapel of Rio Grande Children’s Home. The Rev. Buddy Owens will officiate. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the care of Flores Funeral Home of Mission.

BERNARD E. PIPER

DONNA — Bernie E. Piper passed away Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at Columbia Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen. He was born May 4, 1931 and raised in Licking County, Ohio. He graduated from Kirkersville High School in 1950 and was an U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was married to Betty Corbin Piper for 45 years.

Bernie is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Lu Ann Foor of Danville, Ohio, Debra Piper Pacheco of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Phyllis Stewart of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; son, Russell Edwin Piper of Tampa, Fla; sons-in-law, Tim Foor, Joe Pacheco and Michael Stewart; grandchildren, Tansy and Tara Foor, Brittany and Ryne Pacheco, Jared and Megan Stewart; father, Arthur E. Piper of Newark, Ohio; brothers, Arthur C. Piper and Walter Piper of Newark and Herbert Piper of Columbus, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his mother, Oma Piper, and sisters, Margie Clark and Sue Fries.

Bernie enjoyed early retirement from Sears Roebuck Service Center in Columbus, Ohio. Betty and Bernie owned and operated Heritage Studios Art and Crafts Shop in Gahanna, Ohio. He retired in 1996 after eight years as a school bus driver for Gahanna Lincoln Public Schools. The Pipers were long-time residents of Gahanna before Bernie’s retirement. After his retirement, Bernie and Betty enjoyed their recreational vehicle fulltime, with the Rio Grande Valley as their winter home and the Mid-Ohio area as their summer home. Bernie was much loved by his family and friends.

Cremation was arranged through Kreidler Funeral Home in McAllen. A memorial service will be scheduled for a later date in Ohio. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

TERESA JESSE

DONNA — Mrs. Teresa Jesse, age 74, passed away at Knapp Medical Center on July 30, 1999.

Visitation will be held today, Saturday, July 31, 1999, and Sunday, 1-9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary at Donna Memorial Funeral Home. The funeral home will open at 9 a.m., Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, for the procession that will depart at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. funeral Mass at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be at 11:15 a.m. at Highland Cemetery.

She is survived by her daughters, Teresa (Isaias) Irisson of Weslaco and Clara Luz Arriaga of Donna; sisters, Maria Luisa Dhesa and Maria Eugenia Salinas, both of Mexico; brothers, Emilio and Jesus Jurado, both of Mexico; grandchildren, Arturo Arriaga Jr., Maria Isabel Irisson, Isaias Irisson Jr., Mariel Issac Irisson, Guillermo Arriaga, Andres Jurado Jr., Alberto Arriaga, Ricardo Arriaga; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are being heandled by Donna Memorial Funeral Home.

GABRIELA SALINAS YARRITU

DONNA — Mrs. Gabriela Salinas Yarritu, age 82, passed away in Elsa on July 29, 1999. The Donna Memorial Funeral home chapel will open at 9 a.m. today, Saturday, July 31, 1999. The funeral service will begin at 10 a.m. at the funeral home chapel with Pastor Rodolfo Cajiri officiating. Burial will be at 10:45 a.m. at Donna City Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Yarritu, Homero H. Yarritu, Robert M. Capello Jr., Darrell Y. Calderon, Paul Smith and Aaron Kevin Yarritu.

She is survived by three daughters, Dora Y. (Seferino) Calderon of Donna, Irma Y. (Frank) Smith of Virginia and Gloria Y. (Robert) Capello of Elsa; two sons, Homero H. (Hideko) Yarritu of Califonria and Aaron Yarritu of New Mexico; 19 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

She worked 32 years at Knapp Sherrill Canning Company.

Funeral services are by Donna Memorial Funeral Home.
