December 20, 1922 - August 30, 2008

Velma K. Bailey, born December 20, 1922 in Fequa, Texas, died August 30, 2008 in a hospital in Lufkin, Texas at the age of 85 years. She was a member of the Holly Grove Baptist Church. Her loving family includes, husband, L.V. Bailey; daughter, Dorothy Parkinson; grandchildren, Steffeni Machicek & husband Clarence and Stacey Nethery & husband Bryan; great-grandchildren, Kristen Warford & husband Brandon, Kandace Machicek, Taylor, Collin and Cody Nethery. A visitation will be held Sunday, August 31, 2008 from 5pm till 8pm at Pace Funeral Home. A Celebration of Velma’s Life will begin at 10am Monday, September 1, 2008 at Pace Funeral Home with Pastor, Billy Bradken & Mr. Anthony Rhodes officiating. Interment to follow in Holly Grove Cemetery.

Jack “Jackie” Leon
December 31, 1932 - August 22, 2008

Jack “Jackie” Leon, Sr. 75, of Livingston, Texas, Passed away on Friday, August 22, 2008. He was born December 31, 1932 in Tillamook, Oregon. He was a beloved husband, father, granddaddy, great granddaddy and friend to many. He was a devout Catholic and the epitome of a Good Samaritan. He attended St. Thomas High School and served his country in the Korean War. He was a bricklayer by trade for more than 50 years and Past president of Bricklayer’s Union Local #7. He was an active member of Knights of Columbus and American Legion #312. He was an avid bowler, golfer and card player. He loved his beautiful roses. He married the love of his life, Joan Van Wijk, in a “Dream Wedding” sponsored by the Houston International Flower & Garden Show on April 8, 1956 in the Sam Houston Coliseum.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Joan Parker. His son, Jack L. Parker, Jr. and wife, Melissa and daughters Maryke Cudd and husband, Pat, Jacquelyn Parker and husband, Donald Ray, and Joanie Knight and husband, Dusty. His loving grandchildren, Brian Cudd, Matt Cudd, Amy Mills, Becky Giddens, Bridgette Fitch, Dianna Parker, Stephanie House, Jeffrey Parker, Michael Parker, Tiffany Upshaw, Zachary Knight and Cheyenne Knight and 13 great grandchildren. He is also survived by a sister, Margaret Nicholson along with several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Monday, August 25, 2008 from 3:00-8:00 PM at Pace Funeral Home. A rosary was recited at 7:00 PM in the Chapel. Funeral Mass was held at 9:00 AM, Tuesday, August 26, 2008 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Livingston. Interment followed at the Houston National Cemetery.

Nathaniel Hendrix
April 28, 1922 - August 14, 2008

Funeral services for Nathaniel Hendrix, age 86, will be held Saturday, August 16, 2008 at Pace Funeral Home at 10:00 AM, with Rev. Rex Hendrix and Flynn Hendrix officiating. Burial was at Big Sandy Cemetery.

Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, August 15, 2008 at Pace Funeral Home.

Mr. Hendrix passed away at his residence, Thursday, August 14, 2008. He was born to Josiah and Pearl Bailey Hendrix, April 28, 1922.

Mr. Hendrix was a Marine doing duty during WWII. He was a Marksman and served during Iwojima and Guam. Mr. Hendrix was a contractor and worked in logging..

Preceding him in death are his father and mother; Josiah and Pearl Hendrix. Brothers; T.J.” Hobby” Hendrix and Elton Hendrix. Sisters; Zelma Lilley, Lola Mae Mills, Juanita Harrison and Margaret Ashen Birch.

His survivors include his Wife; Pauline Moore Hendrix of 60 years, Son; Delynn Hendrix and wife Teresa, Sisters; Bennie Sanders and husband H.L. from Baytown, four grandchildren; Delynn Hendrix, Jr., Billy Hendrix, Tanna Hendrix and Lecolde Hendrix; two great grandchildren; Gabe Hendrix and Eathan Fleetwood.

Pallbearers were Billy Hendrix, Delynn Hendrix, Jr., Joel Moore, Edwin Hendrix, Troy Sanders and Randall Sanders.

Pace Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

F N Moore, Sr.
May 10, 1929 - August 10, 2008

Graveside services for F. N. “Buddy” Moore, age 79, will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2008 at Farley Chapel Cemetery in Shepherd, Texas, at 10:00 A.M. Visitation will be Tuesday Evening, August 12, 2008 at Pace Funeral Home from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

Mr. Moore was born May 10, 1929 in West Monroe, Louisiana, to Walter L. Sr. and Stella Baxter Moore, who precede him in death. He passed away August 10, 2008 at the Memorial Medical Center in Lufkin, Texas.

Mr. Moore was a carpenter for various general contractors and served in the Army. He liked to hunt and fish.

His survivors are his wife Stephanie Joann Moore; his son F.N. “Bud” Moore, Jr. and wife Pearl of Mobile, AL, Daughters; Crystal Murphy of Houston, TX, Amanda Moore of Onalaska, TX; Brother; John Moore of West Monroe, LA; Sisters Margaret Coronado of West Monroe and Verna Mae Leach and husband John of West Monroe, LA, Grandchildren; Christopher Moore and Bailey Murphy.

Numerous Nieces, Nephew and Cousins.

Ona Mae Urrey Morrison
January 25, 1913 - August 5, 2008

Ona Mae Urrey Morrison was born in Pineland, Texas on January 25, 1913 to Estus Urrey and Ida Strickland Urrey. She died on August 5, 2008 at Parkwood Place in Lufkin, Texas at the age of 95, although it was her lifelong ambition to live to be 103.

On October 30, 1937 she married Simon H. Morrison who preceded her in death in September 1991, after 53 years of marriage.

She was also preceded in death by her parents, stepmother: Maggie Belle King Urrey, stepson: Simon H. Morrison Jr., stepbrother: Beaty King; two stepsisters: Lily Mae King Wrotenbery and Pearl King White; brother: Herman (Pat) Urrey; two half sisters: Avis Urrey Schooling and Lazelle Urrey Barras.

She is survived by a step daughter-in-law: Nelda Morrison; stepdaughter: Byrne Morrison Phillips and husband, James W. Phillips; step grandson: Wallace Phillips and wife, Sandra Phillips, their children: Amanda and Wayne Phillips; step granddaughter: Amy Phillips a number of nieces and nephews.

Before marriage she studied at Angelina County Hospital and after scoring 100 in anatomy, became a registered nurse in surgery.

The Morrisons lived in Montgomery, Alabama for many years but moved to Barnum, Texas in 1960 where they soon bought the Barnum store and she was the Barnum postmaster from 1962 until the Post Office was closed and the store was sold.

She enjoyed an active church life in Montgomery, Alabama and at Barnum Baptist Church where she kept the nursery, belonged to a bible study group and a quilting circle. She was very proud of her nursing career and continued to subscribe to many medical publications. She enjoyed reading and cooking and had a large collection of books, cookbooks, recipes and videos.

Funeral Services will be held at the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel in Corrigan, Texas on Friday, August 8, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. with Bro. Kenneth Cauthen officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Grove Cemetery in the Barnum Community. Visitation will be held on August 7, 2008 from 5-7 p.m. at the Corrigan Funeral Home.

Serving as pallbearers are: William Morrison, James Phillips, Wallace Phillips, Amy Phillips, Wayne Phillips and Fredrick Woods.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Barnum Baptist Church, 707 E. Barnum Loop, Corrigan, Texas 75939 or Pine Grove Cemetery, 219 McKnight Lane, Corrigan, Texas 75939.

Raymond Allan Tyler
July 28, 1960 - August 2, 2008

Funeral Services for Raymond Allan Tyler, 48, of Corrigan, Texas will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 5, 2008 in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel in Corrigan, Texas with Bro. Ralph Johnston and Bro. Ronnie Lueman officiating. Interment will follow in the Clifton Cemetery in Nacogdoches, Texas.

Mr. Tyler was born July 28, 1960 in Houston, Texas and passed away Saturday, August 2, 2008 in Corrigan, Texas. He was a medical technician for the Rusk State School and a member of the Happy Valley Pentecostal Church. He is preceded in death by his parents: Elvie and Mary (Hobgood) Tyler.

He is survived by his sons: Matthew Tyler and Josh Tyler both of Nacogdoches, Texas; daughter and fiancé: Lindsey Tyler and Wes Cockrell of Corrigan, Texas; daughter and son-in-law: Catherine and Mitchell Vick of Nacogdoches, Texas; brothers and sister-in-law: Elvie "Buddy" and Carolyn Tyler of Colmesneil, Texas and Ralph Tyler of Houston, Texas; sisters and brother-in-law: Rhonda and Patrick Cherry of Chester, Texas and Patsy Tyler of Chester, Texas; grandson: Nicholas Ingle of Nacogdoches, Texas and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Freda Ruth Ward Bolton
October 8, 1966 - July 25, 2008

Memorial services for Freda Ruth Ward Bolton, age 41, will be held Friday, August l, 2008 at 11:00 AM, at the First Baptist Church in Onalaska, with Rev. Don Wilkey officiating. She passed away Friday, July 25, 2008 at her residence in Onalaska.

Freda was a Correctional Guard at the Prison for over ten years and was a licensed Real Estate Agent. She graduated from Livingston High School. She was a devoted, loving single mom for 18 years. Taking care of her son was her whole life.

She was born October 8, 1966, the daughter of Bruce W. and Patsy Sue Yarbrough Johnson, Sr.

She was preceded in death by parents Bruce and Patsy Johnson; maternal grandparents Clark and Alma Yarbrough and grandmother Ruby Vorderkunz.

She is survived by her son John Terry (T.J.) White; Grandparents Edward and Bernice Vorderkunz, Brother; Jim and sister-in-law Joy Johnson of Onalaska; Wayne and sister-in-law Glenda Johnbson of Livingston, sister; Meri Ann and brother-in-law Shot Placker of Onalaska, Patty and brother-in-law Bruce Laviolette of Onalaska; Waynea and brother-in-law Kenny Sheffield of Livingston. Nieces and Nephews; Billy and Jared Burnett, Candy and Samantha Placker, Cody and Blake Laviolette, Krystal, Michael and Steven Johnson, Kelli Webber, Mark and Dianna DuBose, Mattie and Kennie Leigh Sheffield, Taylor Johnson. Great nephews Braiden Burnett, Thomas Dunning IV and Gavin Morales. She also leaves behind a host of other family and dear friends.

Funeral services for Ramona Swan age 77, of Livingston will be held Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at 10:00 am at Pace Funeral Home with Rev. Kevan Wood officiating. Mrs. Swan passed away July 28, 2008 at Trinity Mission of Diboll in Diboll, Texas. Burial will follow at Mt. Rose Cemetery in Livingston, Texas.

Mrs. Swan was born December 19, 1930 in Livingston, Texas to Gerald Eugene and Maurine Nelson Patterson. She was a homemaker and enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Preceding her in death are her parents, one brother, Royce O'Daniel Patterson, brother-in-law, Dale Kent and one nephew, Dale Eugene Slayton.

Her survivors include her brother Billy Patterson, from Rosharon, Texas, two sisters; Mickey Stephens and Geraldine "Toby" Kent of Livingston; one sister-in-law, Wanda Patterson and numerous nieces and nephews.

Cyrus W. Kugler
November 6, 1947 - July 15, 2008

Funeral services for Cyrus W Kugler, were held Thursday, July 17, 2008, at Pace Funeral Home, with Cyrus's brother, Kim Kugler officiating. Mr. Kugler passed away at Hospice In The Pines, in Lufkin, July 15, 2008 after a long illness. Mr. Kugler was buried July 18, 2008 in Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Grand Prairie, Texas.

Mr. Kugler was born in Beaumont, Texas, November 6, 1947 to George and Barbara Meyer Kugler. Cyrus was a Vietnam Veteran. He liked to play golf and loved to play the drums. Preceding him in death is his father, George Kugler.

His survivors are his mother Barbara Kugler; his two sons, Kristan Kugler from Nederland, Texas and Casey Kugler of Groves, Texas. Two brothers Kim Kugler and wife Jackie of North Richland Hills, Texas and Dane Kugler of Port Arthur, Texas. his former wife, Donna Childress and one grandchild, Kyla Mae Kugler.

Mrs. Peden was born December 25, 1924 in Manning, Texas and passed away Monday, July 14, 2008 at his residence in Leggett, Texas. He was employed by the Texas Highway Department and an Assembly of God by faith. He is preceded in death by his wife: Florence Needham Peden; son: Jefferson Dallas Peden; parents: Walter L. and Rosetta (Renfro) Peden; brother: Charles Peden; grandson: Gary Peden.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Earshall and Shirlee Peden of Tyler, Texas; LeRoy and Betty Peden of Freeport, Texas; Walter and Pat Peden of Leggett, Texas; daughters and sons-in-law: Betty and Jerry Oliver of Central, Texas; Cheryl Wetzel and Philip Loerch of Leggett, Texas; brother and sisters-in-law: Johnny and Myrtle Peden of Lufkin, Texas; Frances Peden of Onalaska, Texas, 15 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, 4 great- great grandchildren, special friend, Elsie Robbins and numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.
