Frank David Bridge

Frank David Bridge, 80 was born on March 17, 1931 in Missoula, Montana and passed away on Monday, July 11, 2011 in Livingston, TX. Frank enjoyed boating, traveling and was very proud to serve in the Navy. Mr. Bridge was a member of the Escapee’s Club. He is survived by his daughter, Sonya Dian Moore and Husband Gerald Eugene; grandchildren, David Bridge, Nicola Moore; and three great grandchildren; and many, many dear friends. Mr. Bridge is preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Bridge; parents, Leslie and Molly Bridge and sister Leslie J. Bridge. Frank was buried with military honors at The National Cemetery in California. Pace funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Elsie “Grandma” Doiel

Elsie “Grandma” Doiel, 80 passed away Thursday, September 1, 2011 at The Bradford in Livingston, Tx. Elsie was born in Memphis, Mo. June 19, 1931. She is survived by Bessie Bosiska, Pat and Kim Doiel, Katherine Patton, Vera Cunningham, Jim and Gloria Zwicky, Bill and Mary Maki, Debbie Pajala, Tom and Mary Nelson; granddaughter Brandi Blaine; 29 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Doiel; son David Lietz, great granddaughter Ashley Brooke; grandson, David Lane Lietz and several brothers and sisters. Services were held Monday, September 12, 2011, 2:00 pm at The Bradford at Brookside in Livingston, Texas. Pace Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Jay V. Snook, Jr.

Jay is the son of Jay V. Snook and Lucille Wiggins Snook of Livingston. He marriage his high school sweetheart Patricia Anne Jones on July 13, 1968 at Central Baptist Church in Livingston, Texas. Jay is survived by his wife of 43 years, Patricia. He passed away after a tragic accident at his beloved family ranch south of Livingston Saturday, September 10, 2011.

Jay his survived by son, Kevin Snook and wife Diana, a daughter, Wendy Ross and husband Mack, all of Livingston. Other survivors include the joy of his life, his precious grandchildren: Cody and Taylor Ross, Dylan and Ryan Snook.

Other survivors include his parents J.V. Snook Sr. and Lucile Wiggins Snook; one brother and wife, Tommy Ray and Donna Elkins Snook; and nephews Tommy and Monica Snook and Billy and Laura Snook with three surviving great nephews and one great niece. Jay is survived by a whole host of other close relatives and friends.

Jay was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Chelsea Anne Ross; grandparents B.N. and Francis Damon Snook, Jasper and Estell McRight Wiggins; father and mother in law, Howard and Millie Jones; uncle A.W. Jones. Jay grew up in the Soda community and graduated from Livingston High School in 1965. He played on two district championship football teams. He was also FFA sweetheart while in high school.

He attended San Jacinto College, the University of Houston, and Angelina College studying for a career as a Design Draftsman. He then went to work for Brown and Root in Houston for five years. Jay and Patricia moved back to Livingston in 1972 to raise their family. Jay worked in a variety of positions from 1972 to 1992. These included Jerry Marsh engineering firm, SHECO, LISD Tax Appraiser and First Chief Tax Appraiser for Polk County. From 1992 until his death, Jay worked full time at the family ranch.

In 1992, Jay became a partner with his father-in-law in J&J Cattle Company and L&S Land Investments. In 1998 Jay and Patricia took over the business. They enjoyed full time ranching, timber production, and rental property management. A portion of their land has been in the family for over 100 years and has received the Land Heritage Award.

Jay began his service as a Farm Bureau member in 1972 as a board member of the local Polk County Farm Bureau. During the past 39 years Jay served as Secretary Treasure, Vice President, and President of Polk County Farm Bureau. Jay was instrumental in organizing the first “Ag Day” in Polk County, a member of the Texas Farm Bureau Resolutions Committee and a member of the State Beef Commodity Advisory Board. From 2008 to present Jay served Texas Farm Bureau as a State Director from District IX. Jay and his wife Patricia enjoyed sharing the Voice of Agriculture in domestic and foreign countries. In addition to ranching, he and Patricia loved Jeep Rock Crawling, traveling, antiquing, and spending time at their special vacation home in Red River, New Mexico.

Service for Jay will be held at 2pm on September 13, 2011 at Central Baptist with Kevan Wood officiating assisted by Randall Whitt and Larry Pratt.
Pallbearers will be George Harrell, Corky Cochran, Clarence Floyd, Don West, George Ross, Tommy Snook, Jr., Billy Snook, Kenneth Ross, Kyle Harrell.

Patricia Morton Baxter

Funeral services for Patricia Morton Baxter, age 56, of Livingston, Texas will be held Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 10:00 AM in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas with Bro. Michael Heuermann officiating. Interment will follow in the Magnolia Cemetery in Onalaska, Texas. Pallbearers are Vernon Pierce, Chris Smith, Jackie Frost, Gary Baxter, and Mark Willis. She was born December 12, 1954 in Dayton, Ohio the daughter of James Ralph Morton and Lillian Faye Redden Morton and passed away on September 6, 2011 in Houston, Texas.

Woody Thomas

Memorial services for Woody Thomas, age 75, of Onalaska, Texas will be held Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 2:00 PM in the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Onalaska, Texas. Pastor Homer Anderson will officiate.

He was born September 11, 1935 in Houston, Texas. He was the son of Woody Bershal Cummings and Ardena Frances McRee Nelson and passed away on August 31, 2011 in Webster, Texas. He is preceded in death by his mother and step father, Ardena Frances McRee Nelson and Authell Reed Nelson.

Woody is survived by Charlotte Ann Seymore Thomas, wife, of Onalaska, Texas, Woody A. Thomas, son, of Houston, Texas, Bobbi Dent, daughter, of Atlanta, Georgia, grandchildren, Haley Dent, Lexie Dent, and Jordyn Roberts. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive.

Elbert Cornelius “Neli” Matthews Jr.

Funeral Services for Elbert Cornelius “Neli” Matthews Jr., 75, of Georgetown, Texas will be held Saturday, September 10, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel in Corrigan, Texas with Bro. Kenneth Rittmann officiating. Interment will follow in the Midway Cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Visitation will be held Saturday, September 10, 2011 before the service from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Corrigan Funeral Home Chapel.

Elbert Cornelius "Neli" Matthews, Jr. was born January 31, 1936, in Livingston, Texas, and died in Round Rock after a short illness on September 2, 2011. He was the son of former Polk County Judge E. C. Matthews, Sr. and his wife Addie Lee Lansford Matthews. Neli graduated from Corrigan High School in 1953 and attended Texas A&M for a time before joining the Air Force where he was stationed in Germany. While there he met a beautiful young Danish girl, Liss Grumlose, and they marriage in 1958 shortly before Neli got out of the AF and returned to Texas.

Over the course of his career, Neli worked for RCA, Philco, IBM and they lived in Coco Beach, Florida; Huntsville, Alabama; Los Gatos, California and for the last thirty years have lived in Georgetown, Texas. During the years in Georgetown, "Matt" as he is known to his friends there, has been active in Elk's Lodge #2659. He is a past Exalted Ruler who served tirelessly in many capacities both visibly and behind the scenes. Neli is preceded in death by his parents, son Aubrey Matthews, grandson Marcus Matthews, and sister Ann Matthews Keith.

Survivors include: wife of 52 years: Liss; son, Lars Matthews, former daughter-in-law, Coleen Matthews, grandsons, Lars II and Logan of Georgetown; granddaughter: Aleah Holley of Chicago; daughter-in-law: Sarah Matthews of Friendswood; brothers and sisters-in-law: Dick Matthews and wife Judy of Tomball, George Matthews and wife Kay of El Campo; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Kurt Grumlose and wife Kirsten, Per Grumlose and wife Kirsten of Denmark; nieces and nephews: Viki Jimenez, Ken Parrish, John Elbert Matthews, Aaron Matthews, Bonnie Matthews, Lindy Grant, Sine Grumlose, Hans Grumlose, Thor Grumlose, Niels Grumlose, Martin Grumlose and Henrick Grumlose. Also, Joe, Leah and John DeBoard, dear, next-door neighbors from California who were like his own children, many brothers and sisters from the Elks Lodge, in addition to numerous near and dear friends, all of whom will miss his gentle nature, intelligence, friendliness and unique personality.

Sheryl Lynn O’Hara, 54, was born in Pasadena, TX on October 29, 1956 and went to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 4, 2011. Sheryl loved to read. She is survived by her children, Erin Colleen O’Hara of Livingston, TX, Shaun Patrick O’Hara of Livingston, TX; mother, Janette Case Johnson of Livingston, TX; sisters, Brenda Carol Webb and husband Ronny of New Caney, TX, Karen Darlene Summers of Houston, TX, Lana Kathleen Marriott of Camilla, TX; mother-in-law, Theresa O’Hara of Yorktown Heights, NY along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Sheryl is preceded in death by her father, Richard Warren Case and husband Lawrence (Larry) O’Hara. Albert Carter

Funeral Services for Albert Carter, 81, of Livingston, Texas will be held 11:00 AM, Wednesday, October 5, 2011 at the Cochran Funeral Home in Livingston, Texas with Bro. Harold Isaacs officiating. Albert was born December 4, 1929 in Carthage, Texas and passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2011 in Lufkin, Texas. He is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Jackson Carter and Lula Mae Tidwell, sister, Lavania “Sis” Birch, brothers, William Carter, Acie Carter, Pinkie “Preacher” Carter, Edward Carter and James Carter, great granddaughter, Cierra Michelle McCoy.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend. He had a great sense of humor and was very strong willed and quick thinking. He will be greatly missed by all his loving family and friends. He had a love for his nurses at Timberwood Nursing Home in Livingston in which he was a resident and for his dog “Bubba” of 14 years.

Mr. Carter was a proud veteran and served in the United States Army stationed in Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Augsburg, Germany and also a member of the VFW Post #1893 in Cleveland, Texas. He retired from Texas Department of Highways and Public Transportation as a Maintenance T3 after 29 years of employment.

Albert is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lillie Powers Carter, son, Charles Carter, daughter, Linda Sullivan and husband James Sullivan, daughter, Carolyn McCauley and husband Richard, grandchildren, Amanda McCoy, Carrie Stutts Gibbs, and Joshua Warren of Huffman, Texas, Jennifer and Leanna Longino of Livingston, great grandchildren, Michael McCoy, Jr., Sadie McCoy, Katelyn Gibbs, Ty McCoy, Mason McCoy, Jayleigh Warren, Brooke Willson and Lane Carter Warren. Lee Thomas Flower

Lee Thomas Flower, 62, was born in New York City, NY and passed away Tuesday, September 27, 2011 in Livingston, TX. Lee was a humorous and very spontaneous individual who never met a stranger. He enjoyed boating and ranching. Lee loved and adored his wife children and grandchildren. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Terry; daughters, Kelly Blandy & husband Joe of Glen Mills PA, Kristin Greer & husband Ian of Bryan, TX; grandchildren, Jack, Owen, Ethan, Adi; sister, Dawn Powell & Jack of Elizabethtown, KY. Lee will be remembered as a wonderful loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman Walter and Eva Flower.
