Glenn Ray Burnett

Glenn Ray Burnett born on March 20, 1951 in Livingston, Texas to parents Joe Coker Burnett and Gertrude Richardson. Went to be with his Lord on August 20, 2012. Glenn is survived by his loving wife, Krisandra Burnett of 39 years. Daughter, Kristy Burnett and granddaughter Kassidi Elizabeth Burnett, daughter; Melinda Burnett; son, Dustin Glenn Burnett and grandson Sid Dustin Burnett; brothers, Joe Lynn Burnett and Billy Wayne Burnett; sisters, Nancy Carol Dueboay and husband Howard, Carmen Emmons and husband David. A visitation will be held from 5pm till 8pm Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Pace Funeral Home. Celebration of Life will begin on Thursday, August 23, 2012 10 AM at Center Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Reagan Cooksey officiating. Interment icon will be at Center Hill cemetery in Oakhurst, Texas.

Glenda Loren Akins

Glenda Loren Akins, age 50, was born March 15, 1962 in Houston, Texas to her parents, Leon Johnson and Dolly (Jones) Johnson and passed away August 20, 2012 in Brownsville, Texas.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leon and Dolly Johnson and survived by her sons, Robert Akins, Jr. and Robby Akins, both, of Livingston; daughter, Bobbie Autrand, of Splendora; granddaughter, Haley Akins, of Livingston; grandsons, Joseph Autrand and Justin Autrand, both, of Splendora; son-in-law, Joe Autrand, of Splendora; daughter-in-law, Kasey Akins, of Livingston; brother, Nicky Jones, of Shepherd; sister-in-law, Tammy Jones, of Shepherd; sister, Rhonda Dobbson, of Livingston; nephew, Henry Boles, of Livingston; niece, Merissa Ainsworth, of Livingston; nephews, Jeffrey Boles, of Livingston, Clint Jones, of Tarkington; great niece, Mossy Ainsworth, of Livingston; great nephew, Waylon Ainsworth, of Livingston. Numerous other relatives and friends, also survive.
Memorial Services will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday, August 26, 2012 at the Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston.

Van Conger
November 25, 1934 to August 17, 2012

Funeral Services were held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 19, 2012, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston. Bro. Josh Lindsey and Bro. Adam Nimitz conducted the services. Military Honors were provided by VFW Post # 8568. Pallbearers were: Marc Holley, Rex Holley, Derrick Holley, Troy Holley, Scott Holley, Lance Holley, Joe Durand and Homer Durand. Interment icon was held at Camp Ruby cemetery in Polk County, Texas, following the chapel service.

Van was born on November 25, 1934, in San Antonio, to Edward V. Conger and Elco Davis Conger and passed away on August 17, 2012, in Nederland. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Eddie Tatum “Buddy” Conger. He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Darline Hightower Conger of Alto; daughters and sons-in-law, Vannette and James VanDevender of Nederland and Tatum and Terry White of Livingston; grandsons, Justin William VanDevender and fiancé, Megan Key of Nederland, Kevin VanDevender of Nederland and Trace Van White of Livingston; granddaughter, Kaycee VanDevender of Nederland; great grandson, Brock William VanDevender of Nederland; step-mother, Jeanne Conger of Navasota; brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Merle Conger of Spring Branch; brother-in-law, Bill Holley of Livingston; sisters-in-law, Catherine Conger of Bryan and Cynthia Conger Reeves of Houston; special friend, Earl Hackney of Alto and a host of nieces and nephews. Van served six years in the United States Air Force before coming to Polk County were he worked as a building contractor for 42 years. He was a founding member of the Indian Springs Volunteer Fire Department where he helped charter the organization. He went on to serve on year as assistant fire chief and 14 years as fire chief.

Van retired to Alto in 2004, where he was an active member of the Hilltop Baptist Church.

Alvin Branham
January 23, 1932 to August 19, 2012

Alvin Branham, age 80 of Livingston, Texas, passed away on Sunday, August 19, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. Branham was born on January 23, 1932, in Winnsboro, South Carolina, to parents Johnny and Sally Branham. He married Geneva Chapa Branham in Henrietta, Texas, on October 6, 1952 . Mr. Branham received his Bachelor Degree from Bellevue University in Bellevue, Nebraska. He retired as a CMSGT from the U.S. Air Force in 1980, after service for thirty years and then worked for Lockheed. Mr. Branham was a member of Beacon Bay Baptist Church in Livingston.

He is preceded in death by his parents and survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Geneva Branham of Livingston, Texas; two daughters and two sons-in-law, Linda and David Busse and Sandy and Bobby Mills, both of Bellevue, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Sherri Bulf of Lander, WY., Brandi Busse, Jennifer Fletcher and husband, David, Kasey Palmer, Nicole Humm, all of Bellevue, Nebraska; five great grandchildren, Brandon Busse, Zackary Busse, Devon Fletcher, Cheyenne Fletcher and Kaitlynn Fletcher, also of Bellevue, Nebraska.

Funeral Service will be held at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, August 21, 2012, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas. Pastor Harold Isaacs will conduct the service. Interment icon will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2012, at Bellevue cemetery in Bellevue, Nebraska.

Visitation will began at 5:00 PM at Cochran Funeral Chapel in Livingston and continue until service time.

Bertie Mae (Capps) Lewis

Bertie Mae (Capps) Lewis, 69, of Corrigan, Texas was born March 5, 1943 to Lonnie Garlon Capps and Ola Mae (Hodge) Capps and passed away August 12, 2012 in Corrigan LTC. She is survived by a son: Larry Bruce Bean Jr. of Pasadena, Texas; grandson: Larry Bruce Bean III of San Antonio, Texas; sister: Susan Zsigmond of Corrigan, Texas; sister and brother-in-law: Dorrie and Robert Davis of Moscow, Texas; brother: Lonnie Capps of Corrigan, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews. Bertie was preceded in death by her parents; sister: Laverne Sisney; and brother: Lubin Capps. Cremation arrangements was entrusted to Corrigan Funeral Home.

William Van Conger
November 25, 1934 to August 17, 2012

Funeral Services for William Van Conger, age 77 of Nederland, Texas, will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 19, 2012, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas. Following the chapel service, interment will be held at Camp Ruby cemetery in Polk County, Texas.

Mr. Conger was born on November 25, 1934, and passed away at his home in Nederland, Texas, on August 17, 2012.

Cheryl Ann Goodwin
March 10, 1958 to August 15, 2012

Funeral services for Cheryl Goodwin, age 54 of Rye, Texas, were held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 18, 2012, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas. The services were conducted by Bro. Darrell Brown and Bro. Gordon Langford. Pallbearers were Klint Bush, James Sloane, J.M. Brown, John Kokosz, Michael Crowell, William Jones and Dwayne Pickering. Honorary pallbearers are Ryan Holder, Jerry Clark, Joshua Purdue and Allen Purdue. Following the chapel service, interment was held at Menard Chapel cemetery in Livingston.

Cheryl was born on March 10, 1958, in Texas City, Texas, to parents, Roy Franklin Holder and Barbara Nell Berryhill Holder. She graduated from Dayton High School in 1976. Cheryl worked for Polk County Publishing Company (Big Thicket Messenger) for thirty-five years. She passed away on August 15, 2012, at Conroe Medical Center in Conroe, Texas.

Cheryl's mother, Barbara Holder, and two aunts, Mary Via and Janie Hutto have preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Beamon Goodwin of Rye; father and step-mother, Roy and Jean Holder of Cleveland; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Roger and Susie Holder of Rye and John and Robbie Holder of Sheffield, Alabama; three sisters-in-law, and three brothers-in-law, Joyce and Danny Danford of Thicket, Francis and Red Disotell of Rye and Cecil and Patty Goodwin of Liberty; four step-sisters and one step brother, Sandra Kindle of Jasper, Lynn Langford of Cleveland, Mary Marshall of Humble, Bill Sonier of Cleveland and Kathleen Frankie of Humble; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives; and a host of special friends.

Dr. Emil “Doc” Herren Vogely, Jr.
June 30, 1922 to July 18, 2012

Dr. Emil “Doc” Vogely, Jr., age 90, passed away on July 18, 2012, at his home in Livingston, Texas. Doc Vogely was born on June 30, 1922, in Salisbury, North Carolina, to parents, Emil Herren Vogely and Martha Adams Vogely. He married Leah Koehler in Columbus, Ohio, on June 15, 1946. Doc served in the US Army from September 1940 to April 1953. On active duty for four years as a Platoon leader in the Combat Engineers, in the European Theater, he landed on Utah Beach in Normandy, participated in the liberation of Northern France, Patton’s battle for Bastone, where he earned the Purple Heart and the Belgian Fouragere, the capture of the Rhineland, the first assault across the Rhine River and the final defeat of Germany. Redeployed to the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, he earned the Philippine Liberation Ribbon, Victory Ribbon and Philippine Presidential Unit Citation.

Doc Vogely earned a Bachelor of Industrial Engineering from Ohio State University, a Masters in Business Administration and a Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Houston. He was employed by Cincinnati Milacron Inc., as a Division Manager and later as the Chairman of the Data Processing at Lee College. Doc was a senior member of the American Society of Tool and Manufacturing Engineers and a Charter Member of The American Society for Abrasives. He was active in the Boy Scouts, an Eagle and Scoutmaster of Troop 78, Willistown, PA. Doc was a Trustee of VFW Post #8568, active in the formation of their Honor Guard and a member of the American Legion.

Doc Vogely and Leah Koehler were married in Columbus, Ohio, on June 15, 1946. They reared four children. Doc is preceded in death by his parents, Emil Herren and Martha Adams Vogely; sister, Dr. Maxine Vogely; and brother, Dr. William A. Vogely. He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Leah Koehler Vogely of Livingston, Texas; daughter, Karen Vogely Hirt of Litchfield, OH, daughter and son-in-law, Dr. Anita Jones Vogely and Dana Jones of Binghamton, N.Y., son and daughter-in-law, Emil H. Vogely III and Judy Jensen Vogely, daughter and son-in-law, Martha Jill Vogely and John McMurray of Mt Solon, VA; four grandchildren, Jennifer Hirt of PA., Matthew Hirt of Ohio, Aaron Rabinowitz of Virginia, and Leah E. Vogely of New York; and sister, Jean Vogely Werner of Cincinnati, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service for Doc Vogely will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, August 25, 2012, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas with Pastor Joe McDonald conducting the service. Military Honors will be presented by VFW Post #8568 Honor Guard.

Edna Goodson

Edna Goodson was born on December 19, 1923 in Cameron Texas. She went to be with her Lord on August 12, 2012. Edna was preceded in death by both her parents, G. Wade and wife Fannie Mae Kinard, loving husband Howard Preston Goodson. Brother, Wade Hampton. She is survived by sons, Stan Goodson and Steve Goodson and wife Barbara; grandchildren, Scott Goodson, Stacie Goodson and Stephanie Goodson; 4 great grandchildren; Numerous other relatives and host of friends. Services for Ms. Goodson will be at a later date.

Charles Edward Cain
October 4, 1955 to August 14, 2012

Charles Edward Cain, age 56 of Livingston, Texas, passed away on August 14, 2012, at his home in Livingston, surrounded by his family. Charles was born on October 4, 1955, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to parents, Charles Arnold Cain and Frankie Ann Carter Cain.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Frankie Ann Sonnier. Charles is survived by Charles and Judy Cain, parents of Livingston; three daughters, Sarah Cain of DeMotte, Indiana, Michelle Lopez and Charlie Lynn Cain of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; three brothers, Adrian Cain of Houston, Texas, David Cain of Friendswood, Texas, and Christian Cain of Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Mary Kathryn Sweet

Mary Kathryn Sweet was born on April 26, 1957 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Edward and Katherine Wiegel. Went to be with her Lord on August 10, 2012 at age of 55 years. Mary is survived by son; Thomas Dankert; sister, Diane Pickering and husband Mike; nephew, Jacob Pickering; niece, Heather Murphy. Numerous other relatives and a host of friends. A Celebration of Mary’s Life will be held at a later date.

Ruby Allene Thrash
September 25, 1926 to September 18, 2012

Ruby Allene Thrash, age 85 of Onalaska, Texas, passed away on September 18, 2012, in Livingston, Texas. She was born on September 25, 1926, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana to parents, Norwell and Ruth Boyd Roberts. Mrs. Thrash was a member of First Baptist Church in Onalaska, Texas, since 1985. She was the kitchen director and Sunday School Teacher, Photographer and Vacation Bible School Helper.

Mrs. Thrash is preceded in death by her parents, Norwell and Ruth Roberts; husband, R. L. Thrash; and brother Tom Willey. She is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, George Thrash of Onalaska, Texas, and Paul and Sylvia Thrash of Pensacola, Florida; daughter-in-law, Linda Thrash of Onalaska, Texas; and brother and sister-in-law of George and Pat Willey of Canton Mississippi.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, September 21, 2012, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Onalaska, Texas. Rev. Don Wilkey will conduct the services. Pallbearers are: Earl Kennedy, Mac McElwee, Rip Thomas, Mo Tellis, Lincoln Smith and Duane Sauls. Following the chapel service, interment will be held at Magnolia cemetery in Onalaska, Texas.

Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Thursday, September 20, 2012, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Onalaska, Texas.

Donald Gene Fender, Sr.
May 13, 1937 to September 17, 2012

Graveside services for Donald Gene Fender, Sr., age 75 of Quitman, Texas, will be held at 3:00 PM on Wednesday, September 19, 2012, at Peebles cemetery in Livingston, Texas. Rev. Harold Isaacs will conduct the service.

Donald was born on May 13, 1937, in Longview, Texas, to parents, Estel Fender and Bonnie Barley Fender. He passed away in Tyler, Texas, on September 17, 2012.

Donald is preceded in death by his parents, Estel Fender and Bonnie Fender. He is survived by son, Don Fender, Jr. of Crosby, Texas; sister and brother-in-law, Ronita and Ricky Garrison of Quitman, Texas; two brothers, Jerry Fender of Livingston, Texas, and Sammy Smith and wife, Vickie of Mt. Belvieu, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Gladys Crum Bowen

Gladys Crum Bowen, 90, died on September 16, 2012, at her residence in Onalaska. Gladys was born October 20, 1921, in Cotton County, Oklahoma, to Arthur and Ada Crum. She married T. L. Bowen in Lufkin in 1939.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Pat and Calvin Pope of Onalaska; brother and sister-in-law Richard and Ola Crum of Clear Lake; grandchildren: Charlene Taylor and her husband Scott of Onalaska; Ben Breedlove and his wife, Diane, of Texas City; Joy Lynn DeRaimo of Texas City; great-grandchildren: Derek Breedlove, Lindsay and Sabrina DeRaimo; and two great-great grandchildren, Christian Tillman and Derek Breedlove Jr.

Preceding Gladys in death are her parents, Arthur and Ada Crum; husband, T. L. (Cotton) Bowen; daughter, Joyce Bowen; sister: Evelyn Bailey; and nephew Robert Bailey.

A memorial service for Gladys Bowen will be held at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Highway 190 West and Pinkard Road in Livingston on Saturday, September 22, at 10:00 a.m. with Randy Maze officiating.

August 14, 1927 to September 15, 2012

Funeral service for Fae Charlotte Martin, age 85 of Shepherd, Texas, will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Shepherd, Texas, with Dr. Preston Baker and Bro. John Page officiating. Pallbearers are David Sherrouse, William Arrendell, T.J. Strickland, Tre Page, Jeremy Bridges, Ronnie McCormick, J.R. “Corky” Page and Eddie Pierce. Honorary Pallbearers: Members of the Faith Sunday School Class and Eastern Star. Interment icon to follow at the Farley Chapel cemetery.

Fae was born on August 14, 1927, in Grafton, North Dakota and passed away on September 15, 2012, in Livingston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Mae Mikell; first husband, Johnnie Page second husband, J.B. Martin and brother, David Mikell.

Fae is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Wilbur Bridges; daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Bill Arrendell; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Terry Strickland; and son and daughter-in-law, John and Louela Page, all of Shepherd, Texas; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren on the way; brother and sister-in-law, Steven & Elsa Mikell of Lafayette, Ga; sister and brother-in-law, Stephanie and Gene Kearley of Jacksonville, Florida; numerous nieces and nephews and other relatives; a host of friends, and the children of J.B. Martin.
