There will be a Memorial Service at 2:00 PM on Sunday, November 4, 2012, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel In Livingston. Randy Maze will conduct the service.

Jo Frances Birch will be interned in the Sweeny cemetery in Sweeny, Texas on November 5, 2012.

Jo Frances Birch, 88, was born April 1, 1924 to Orville and Bertha Kessinger in Barnsdale, Oklahoma and passed away Thursday, November 1, 2012 in Lufkin, Texas. She lived a full life and had a great love for her family. She is preceded in death by her parents: Orville Kessinger and Bertha (Perkins) Kessinger; first husband: Frank Meadows; son: Michael Meadows; second husband: Tommy Birch.

She is survived by her sister: Betty Fisher of Florida; niece: Linda Lambert of Georgia; step sons and wives: Leon Franklin O’Guin and Lois of Lufkin, Texas, Bill O’Guin and Dell of Corrigan, Texas other relatives and friends.

E.A. “Rip” Tanner
July 6, 1916 to October 30, 2012

E. A. “Rip” Tanner, age 96, passed away on October 30, 2012, at his home in Rosenberg, Texas. He was born on July 6, 1916, in Onalaska, Texas, to parents, Ernest Alvin Tanner, Sr. and Ova Cleo Carlisle Tanner. He married Mavis Elizabeth Tanner on December 5, 1942, in Houston, Texas. Rip served his country as he serviced in the U.S. Navy from 1937 to 1941.

Rip was a member of the Masonic Lodge #1189 A.F.&A.M. and 33 degree Scottish Rite Houston Valley.

Rip is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by wife, Liz Tanner of Rosenberg; son, Jeff Tanner of Montgomery; daughters, Sandra Renner of Portland, Oregon and Tamara Peterson of Erie, Pennsylvania; sisters, Honey Simons of Livingston and Marjorie Rappolee of Centerville; grandchildren, Sheila Rene Wacker, Bryony Dominguev, Stacy Elizabeth Lassar and Stephanie Diane Kocian; great grandchildren, Kyle David Kocian, Clay Steven Kocian, Kaitlyn Allene Wacker, Willow Laorie Lassar, Casey Wacker, Nowan Lassar and Emory Dominguev.

Graveside Masonic Services was held at 11:00 PM on Friday, November 2, 2012 at Magnolia cemetery in Onalaska, Texas. The service was Under the Auspices of Trinity Lodge #14 A.F. & A.M. Visitation was held on Friday prior to Graveside Service at Magnolia cemetery.

Mary Lou McClain was born on May 9, 1940, in Livingston, Texas, to parents, Acie Carter and Eunice Tidwell Carter. She married Don McClain and they raised three children in Livingston. Mary Lou passed away on October 30, 2012, at Livingston Memorial Hospital. She is preceded in death by her parents, Acie and Eunice Carter. Mary Lou is survived by her husband, Don McClain of Livingston; two daughters and one son-in-law, Kathy McClain of Kenefick, Texas, and Terri and Randy White of Livingston; son, and daughter-in-law, John and Katharine McClain of Livingston; five grandchildren, Candis Nunez and husband, Bronson, Brooke Micyk and husband, Cheston, Chad McClain, Chase McClain, Chesney McClain, Aubree Nunez, and Bralin Nunez; brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Cheryl Carter; Johnny Carter’s family; special friends, Edna Gaston and Betty Nettles Paredes.

Funeral services for Mary Lou McClain, age 72 of Livingston, Texas, will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 2, 2012, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston. Mike Miller will conduct the services. Pallbearers are Mike McClain, Buck McClain, Glen Duff, Freddy Duff, Charles Allen Carter and Ty Paredes. Honorary pallbearers are Roger Alexander and Richard DeFee. Interment icon will be held at Camp Ruby cemetery in Polk County, Texas, following the chapel service. Visitation will begin at 5:00 PM on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Cochran’s Chapel.

Mary Lou was much loved and will be greatly missed by her family and a host of friends in Livingston who enjoyed her friendship and telephone calls.

Patsy Ruth Sheffield
October 2, 1928 to October 29, 2012

Patsy Ruth Sheffield, age 84 of Livingston, Texas, passed away on October 29, 2012, in Lufkin, Texas, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 2, 1928 in Onalaska, Texas, to parents, W.H. Merrell and Daisie Carter. She married S.C. “Goose” Sheffield and they were blessed with two daughters and one son. Pat served the community for years in many ways. She was active in the churches where she worshiped, and served as Sunday School teacher for many years. Pat was a consultant for Mary Kay Beauty Products and later worked at the office of Walter Knebel CPA, and met all with a smiling face and a cheerful greeting, and she was involved in many other areas in the community.

Pat is preceded in death by her beloved husband, “Goose” Sheffield and parents, W.H. and Daisie Merrell. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Sandra and Dan Jones of Sevierville, Tennessee, Joan and Walter Knebel of Livingston, Texas; son, John Sheffield of Clear Lake, Texas; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Margaret and Hubert Page of Livingston, Texas, and Mary Acuff of Bay City, Texas; seven grandchildren, Jason Jones, Jonathan Jones, Jarrod Knebel, Brandon Knebel, Rachel Sheffield, John Caleb Sheffield and Sam Sheffield; two great grandchildren, Randy Sheffield and Tripp Sheffield; numerous nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, November 2, 2012, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas. Rev. T.C. Haynes and Rev. Shane Norcross will conduct the services. Pallbearers are Jason Jones, Jonathan Jones, Jarrod Knebel, Brandon Knebel, John Caleb Sheffield, Sam Sheffield, Dan Jones, Walter Knebel and John Sheffield. Interment icon will follow the chapel service at Magnolia cemetery in Onalaska, Texas.

Visitation for Pat will begin at 5:00 PM on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Cochran’s Chapel in Livingston.

Earl Truman Henderson, age 66 of Livingston, Texas, passed away on October 29, 2012, in Lufkin, Texas. He was born on December 17, 1945, in Dallas, Texas, to parents, Abraham Henderson and Hettie Mae Weatherford Henderson. Earl served in the U.S. Army.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Abraham and Hettie Henderson. Earl is survived by his son, Clinton Earl Henderson of Cleveland, Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Chris and Rodney Watts of Livingston, Texas; ten grandchildren, Clinton Earl Henderson II of Cleveland, Texas, Stephen Edward Henderson and wife, Crystal of Eufaula, Oklahoma, Brett Allen Hebert of Livingston, Texas, Chelsey Siercks and husband, Thomas of Livingston, Texas, Brandon Lee Henderson of Roanoke, Texas, Dallas Marie Henderson of Roanoke, Texas, Dakotah Mae Henderson of Roanoke, Texas, Nikki Murphy and husband, Jimmy of Dallas, Texas, Brittany Burks of Dallas, Texas, and Jeffrey Burks of Dallas, Texas; eight great grandchildren; numerous other relatives; and a host of friends.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Houston National cemetery in Houston, Texas. Military Honors will be provided by VFW District #4 Ceremonial Team. Pallbearers are Clinton Earl Henderson II, Stephen Edward Henderson, Brandon Lee Henderson, Brett Allen Hebert, Thomas Siercks and Jimmy Murphy.

Visitation will begin at 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM on October 31, 2012, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas.

Susie was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Elsie-Elizabeth Kovach; husband Cecil Berman VanDine; two sons, Rex VanDine and Cecil VanDine; brothers, Joseph Gabor, George Kovach, Louis Kovach, Steve Kovach, Charles Kovach and Frank Kovach. She is survived by son, Ross VanDine of Pennington, Texas; three daughters, Christine Hitchcock of Houston, Texas, Priscalla Patterson of Houston, Texas; Susan VanDine of Onalaska, Texas; sister, Priscalla Slahr of Bloomingdale, Ohio; thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

Thomas is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Teresa Moore of Livingston, Texas; two daughters, Emerald Green of Livingston and Jesica Moore of College Station; sister, Jennifer Bennett; granddaughter, Lilly Green of Kingwood; nephew, Justin Green and niece, Brooklyn Green, both of Magnolia; nieces and nephews, Cody, Emily and Courtney; father-in-law and mother-in-law, James & Mary Neill of Livingston; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, James and Sandy Neill of Littleton, Colorado; special friends, Danny Bethea, Christian and Zachary Schanmier, Jerret Green, Roland Higgins, Karl Gray, Greg Miller, Cassity Land, Josh Saybe, Layne and Jake Bethea and Danny McPike.

Funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston. Bro. Mark Bethea will conduct the services. Pallbearers are Christian Schanmier, Zachary Schanmier, Danny Bethea, Roland Higgins, Justin Green, Jerret Green, Josh Saybe, Cassity Land and Karl Gray. Honorary pallbearers are John Traweek, Jakob Bethea, Layne Bethea, Greg Miller, William Jerry, Danny McPike and Andy McPike. Interment icon will be held at Linny cemetery in Dayton, Texas, following the chapel service.

Dorothy Zelma Bartgis

Dorothy Zelma Bartgis was born February 15, 1912 to John and Alpha Bolton in Winfield, Kansas. At the age of 100, she was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 27, 2012. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Donald Eugene Bartgis, Sr. They lived many happy years in Baytown, Texas where she owned a beauty shop. In 1978, they retired and moved to Goodrich, Texas. There, they lived in Holiday Lake Estates. Dorothy was a devoted Christian and worshiped at Schwab City Baptist Church. Dorothy was also preceded in death by her son, Donald Eugene Bartgis, Jr., and daughter, Donna Brown. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Melva Bruce Holley; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM at Schwab City Baptist Church in Livingston, Texas on Wednesday, October 31, 2012. With a Celebration of Dorothy’s Life following at 11 AM at Schwab City Baptist Church with Pastor David Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Memorial Park.

Alan David Todd
August 31, 1954 to October 28, 2012

Alan David Todd, age 58 of Livingston, was born in Aiken, South Carolina, on August 31, 1954, to parents J.D. Todd and Edith Lessing Todd. He passed away at his home on Sunday, October 28, 2012. Alan served in the U.S. Marines from 1974 to 1976. He was a member of The American Legion and The American Legion Motorcycle Riders Group.

Alan is preceded in death by his aunt, Lula D. Goldman; and three uncles, Rex Todd, Dave Todd and Joe Todd. He is survived by his son, Joseph Don Colt Todd of Stamps, Arkansas; parents, J.D. and Edith Todd of Livingston, Texas; brother and sister-in-law, Charles Richard and Alison Todd of Grapevine, Texas; nephew, Taylor Alan Todd of Grapevine, Texas; three uncles, Frank Todd of Theodore, Alabama, William Todd of Theodore, Alabama, and John Paul Todd of Silas, Alabama; four aunts, Myrtle Smith of Uriah, Alabama, Mary Todd of Theodore, Alabama, Ruby Koenig of Mississippi, Martha Sanderson of Rogers, Alabama, special friend, Becky Chandler of Rye, Texas; and a host of cousins and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, November 1, 2012, at Cochran Funeral Home Chapel in Livingston, Texas. Bro. David Jones will conduct the services. Pallbearers will be American Legion Members of Post #402 of Livingston. Following the chapel service, interment will be held at Menard Chapel in Polk County. Military Honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post #8568 Honor Guard.

Dovie is survived by daughters, Tempie Wetherell and Tiney and husband Wayne Simons, both of Livingston Texas; sons, Malley Tullos of Goodrich, Texas, Abrom Tullos Jr. of Livingston, Texas, and Sammy and wife Aleta Tullous of Lufkin Texas; grandchildren, Jonie Williams, Michael Wetherell, Chester Wetherell, Lisa Little, Jennifer Tomes, Keith Stutts, Jessica Navaro, Felisha Stoges, Abrom Tullous III, Linda Tullos, Sueanna Tullos, Crystal Tullos, Marsha Lynn Tullos, Kandi Allsup, Jacob Tullous; numerous great-grandchildren. Dovie is preceded in death by both of her parents, Samuel and Tempie (Burks) Fackler; husband, Abrom Lee Tullos Sr.; son-in-law, Charles Wetherell; great-grandson, Relly Maurice Wetherell-Moody.
