She was a member of the Alvin Yellowjacket marching band, attended North Texas College and played golf with Don January. She married her high school sweetheart Harry F. McEwen in 1953, and they moved to Lubbock, where she helped her new husband graduate from college at Texas Tech University. They had 3 boys (Jimmy, Wayne, and Dale). People still ask today; “How are the boys?”

She worked for many employers; Brown and Root Company in Alvin, Texas, Wharton primary School, Wharton, Texas, Livingston Independent School District, in Livingston, Texas. Her fondest job was being the secretary for Ms. Seale at the Livingston Primary School, and what brought her the most joy was helping new teachers be certified while she held the position as the secretary for the School Superintendent. After she retired, she rejoined the workforce at the First National Bank in Livingston where she was a greeter and served popcorn on Fridays, which she loved doing. Jerrie, in her spare time, helped her three boys become Eagle Scouts, served Turkey dinners at the Manifest, travelled around the country through the assistance of Moore Travel and Virginia Turner. Most of all, even during her courageous battle with Alzheimer, Jerrie was cheerful to everyone she met and never wanted to be a bother to anyone. She made people smile.

The family extends their thanks to so many people who made Jerrie’s life a true delight. The folks at First United Methodist Church, “the bank” (as Mom called it), all the children that passed her way through school, the countless scouts from cub scouts to Explorers, all the city officials and School Board Members, and her class of 1950. Thanks also to Janis for giving her grandsons, Matthew, and Jordan, Irma for her granddaughters, Kristina and Melanie, and Tammy for Andy and Jake. Special thanks to Jordan and Swanna, Matthew and Abby for three great grandchildren, Brazos, Mace, and Ryder.
