Donald Anthony Bass
Born in Paris, TX April 18, 1930 Donald Anthony Bass died June 7, 2014 at home in Livingston Texas. He graduated from Paris High School and had fond memories of sliding down the banister of Graham Elementary School. (Naturally, the principal was obligated to apply the “board of education” to his “seat of understanding.”) He often smiled to say he left the principal’s office to slide down again and go home. Don eventually sought the Creator in earnest and exchanged his GS-14 job with the Social Security Administration in Woodlawn, Maryland for a Doctorate of Education from the University of Houston and served in public and parochial schools in Texas, Oregon, Mexico, Turkey, and six years in Yemen. He said of his life: “God has been very gracious and merciful to me. My life has contained much more joy than I deserve.” He trusted in God with all his heart and leaned not to his own understanding, and endeavored in all his ways to acknowledge Jesus Christ as his Savior and soon-coming King. His heart went out to the world’s needy children, especially the ones with cleft palates. Don Bass is survived by his wife of 58-and-a-half years Helen Fay Chism Bass, three brothers, two brothers-in-law and five sisters-in-law, many adoring nieces and nephews, friends and former students. He was preceded in death by parents Obie and Mattalene Freeland Bass, brothers, William and Ken, and sister Dorothy Ford of Waco. Seek the Lord while he may be found! A graveside service will be held at the Houston National cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038. To sign the online guestbook, please go to wwwpacefuneral.com.

Party was married
to the love of his life for 62 years. Through this marriage were four children that he loved very deeply and they were the light of his life. He became a Poppa and that light grew brighter. His family meant the world to him and he provided a caring loving home for all of us to be raised in and be proud to call home.
The majority of his life he worked as a mechanic at his own business. But his real job was hunting, fishing, farming and story telling. If anyone knew him they could tell you some kind of hunting - fishing story and then tell you a better story he told them. This is what made him Party Cockrell.
Be rejoiceful today because he can tell his stories again, he can take that boy hunting, and the biggest tale has yet been told. We love you and we'll see you when we get there.
