Alberta Jeffery
On June 2, 1934, a baby girl was born in Pattison, TX to the late James and Rebecca (Banks) Webster. They named her Alberta. She grew up in Pattison where she attended the Post Oak School. Alberta was baptized at an early age, under the leadership of the late Rev. W.P. Powell of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Pattison.
She later moved to Hockley where she united with the Mt. Zion Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Jake Walker and the late Rev. Willie Sampson. Active in her church, she was an usher, “God’s Doorkeeper” and in other auxiliaries as needed. She was united in Holy Matrimony with Harold “Hal” Jeffery until 1971. Alberta lived and worked in Hockley for many years before retuning to Pattison in 1982. On November 5, 1995 Alberta united with Wade Chapel Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. J. James where she was a faithful member until her death.
She departed this life on June 22, 2003 at 6:00 p.m at the Memorial Continued Care Hospital in Houston. She leaves to mourn her sisters: Doretha Branch, Bessie Stewart, Rosie Lee Johnson and her husband Robert, all of Pattison; Odessa Norris of Houston and many other relatives and friends. Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, husband and brothers James and Jessie Webster and sister Stella Mae Webster.
A service celebrating her life was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2003 at the Encampment, with the Rev. J. James officiating. Burial followed in the Clemons cemetery. Active pallbearers were Calvin Brown, Arthur Brown, Elton Brown, Vincent Guillory, Weston Clark and Demetri Rogers. Honorary pallbearers were Keith Rogers, Willie Carl Brown, Wayne Norris, Claudie Norris Jr., Sheila Rogers and Bernice Brown.
Services were directed by Schmidt Funeral Home, 819 Waller Ave., Brookshire, Texas.
Laverne Aleida Milholland
Laverne Aleida Milholland, age 78 of Brookshire, passed away on June 17, 2003. Mrs. Milholland is survived by her husband, Leonard; daughters, Cherly Weller and husband Roger, and Gail Simmons and husband Gram Gibson; brother, Pap Johnson; sisters, Jody Griffen, Birdey Mae Castelberry, Essie Been, and Wilda Johnson; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
Visitation was Wednesday, June 18, 2003 from 5 – 8pm at Canon Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Services were Thursday, June 19, 2003 at 10:00am at Canon Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Eugene Dewveall officiating. Interment
was at 10:00am Friday at Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo, TX.

Lovie (DeLee) Norton
November 22, 1911 – June 16, 2003
LOVIE (DeLEE) NORTON was born a twin to August W. and Clara Austin DeLee in Amite County, Mississippi, November 22, 1911. They moved to East Feliciana Parish, Louisiana for the educational system.
Valedictorian of her high school class in Clinton, Louisiana, she then received her R.N. degree at Touro Infirmary in New Orleans, where she met and married
the love of her life, Myrtis M. “Stubby” Norton on December 21, 1933. In New Orleans she enjoyed membership in the Tulane Engineers’ Wives Club. Moving to Texas City in 1936, Lovie was active in the First Baptist Church, a deacon’s wife, survivor of the 1947 Texas City disaster and then school nurse for Kohfeldt Elementary until 1971, when they moved to Pattison.
In Pattison she pursued her interests of family, home, church, community, yard, art, handwork, travel, and in her later years, genealogy. Along with WMU and her Sunday School class, she joined and participated in the Methodist UMW, Brookshire Fine Arts Club, Brookshire AARP, Pattison Senior Citizens, Colonial Dames of 17th Century John Champion Chapter of Bellaire, DAR San Felipe de Austin Chapter, NSDAR of Texas, Captain James Asbury Tait Chapter #89, of the United States Daughters of the War of 1812, United Daughters of the Confederacy, John B. Hood Chapter 2147, and actively supported Stubby’s activities in the workings of the town of Pattison, the Brookshire Lions Club and activities of the local schools, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Lovie passed away Monday, June 16, 2003, at her home at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; twin, Ruby Reel; brothers: Augustus, David, Jesse and Calhoun DeLee; wonderful in-laws; granddaughter, Valerie DeLee Vest; and infant grandsons, Joel and Jon Michael Kitzman.
She will be missed by her CHILDREN: Bill and Ruby Norton Vest of Centerville, Norman and Carolyn Norton Kitzman of Pattison and Richard and Patricia Howze Norton of Houston; GRANDCHILDREN: Russell and Renee Patterson Vest of Falmouth, Maine, Craig and Carrie Vest Gracey of Tomball, Charley and Mariann Baker Kitzman of Pattison, Robert and Kamala Klaus Kitzman of Brenham, Scott Vest, Richard DeLee Norton, II and Melanie Anne Norton of Houston; GREAT GRANDCHILDREN: Alana and Austin Vest, Tori, Jenna and Jordan Gracey, Stephen and Katie Kitzman Janes, Cason, Cody and Colton Kitzman; also SISTERS-IN-LAW: Cony and Rita DeLee; and many other relatives, friends and caregivers.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, June 19, 2003, at 2:00 P.M. at the First Baptist Church in Brookshire with Reverend David V. Thomas officiating. Burial will follow in the Pattison Methodist cemetery.
Pallbearers are grandsons: Russell Vest, Charley Kitzman, Robert Kitzman, Scott Vest, Rick Norton and Craig Gracey. Ashley Sean Harrison
Ashley Sean Harrison was born November 5, 1982 in Houston,Texas, the son of Dana Worley and Joseph Harrison. He grew up and attended school in Brookshire, Texas throughout the elementary and junior high school years. During his eighth grade year, Ashley attended the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, Texas. He then attended Cy-Springs High School for one semester before returning to Royal. A 2001 graduate of Royal High School, Ashley loved sports, especially basketball and music. He was very athletic and over the years had played baseball, basketball and football. He loved people and valued the time he spent with his friends.
Ashley passed away suddenly Tuesday, July 15, 2003 in Waller County, Texas. He is survived by his father: Joseph Harrison; Grandparents: Marie and Milan Wilkins and Donna Wilkins; Extended family: Nathaniel, Dawn and Meredith Richardson; and his beloved cousin: Chasidy Worley. He also leaves behind his long-time girlfriend: Laura DeMunbrun; and numerous aunts, uncles, other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dana Worley Richardson, and his grandfathers, John L. Harrison, Sr., Roger Worley, Sr. and John Wilkins.
Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 21, 2003 at Royal High School Auditorium with Pastor Tony Henny officiating. Interment
followed at Klein Memorial Park cemetery in Tomball. Serving as pallbearers were Landry Fredrick, Rick Mack, Jr., Chris Edwards, Rick DeMunbrun, Wendall Hannibal and Nick Patrick. Honorary pallbearers were Jason Branch, John Harrison and Joshua Perry.

August Ryan Roberts, Jr.
August Ryan Roberts, Jr. was born July 18, 1933 in Beaumont, TX to the late August Ryan Roberts, Sr. and the late Stella Martin Roberts. He attended school in Beaumont graduating from Beaumont High School. A farmer by trade, he worked for a number of years for Raymond Franz on his rice farm. Recently, he had worked for David Nelson in the rice fields.
August departed life on Sunday, July 13, 2003 at his home in Brookshire having attained the age of 69 years, 11 months and 25 days.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Chester Roberts, Sr., John Allen Roberts, Vincent Roberts, Albert Roberts, James Roberts and Herbert Roberts. He was also preceded in death by his son, August Roberts III and sisters, Eva Gilbert, Mary Campbell and Evelyn Narper. August leaves to cherish his memory Ex-wife: Lucille Roberts; Children: David Hicks of San Diego, California, Gloria Russell and husband, Terry, and Joseph Roberts and wife, Denise, all of Houston, Charles Roberts of Brookshire, Mary E. Lira and husband, Franciso, of Pattison, Bernadine Hintz and husband, Nolan of Brookshire, Donald Ray Roberts and wife Umi of Dallas; Tommy Lee Palmer and his wife of Sealy, Anthony Palmer and wife, April of Bellville, Stella Avie and Jason Avie, both of Brookshire; Step-children: Tenesha, Tyree, Tiera and Jarren Avie, all of Brookshire; 24 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; Brother: Lucious (Butch) Roberts of Beaumont; and special friend: Shirley Clark.
A homegoing celebration was held Saturday, July 19 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Brookshire at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Blanche Barley and Rev. Willie Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the Hillside cemetery in Wallis. Active pallbearers were: August Ryan Roberts, Nolan Hintz, Michael Barley, Francisco Lira, Tyree Avie, Alvin Nunn, Larry Clark, Marvin Parker and Ernest Dabney. Honorary pallbearers were: Donald Ray Roberts, Charles Roberts, Joseph Roberts, Orndorf Davis, Eddie Clark, David Hicks, Jason Avie, Tommy Lee Palmer and Anthony Palmer.

Kenneth Marvin Todd, Sr.
Kenneth Todd, Sr., was born December 2, 1933 in Taft, Texas, the son of Eubron Henry and Charlotte Eleanor Backus Todd. He grew up and attended school in the Corpus Christi area.
After graduation from high school, Kenneth served his country in the United States Navy from 1951-1954. After his honorable discharge, he was employed as a wallpaper hanger.
Kenneth made his home in Pattison, Texas for the past 20 years. He enjoyed playing dominoes, hunting and fishing and watching “The Price is Right.” He was also an avid sports fan and particularly enjoyed football and baseball.
He passed away Sunday, June 15, 2003 in a Houston hospital at the age of 69. He is survived by his children: Virginia Slaughter and her husband Mark of Grandview; Deena Hankins and her husband Rusty of Schulenberg; Cynthia Todd of Katy; Buddy Todd and his wife Kathy of California; Wayne Todd and his wife Celeste of Flatonia and Shirley Parsley and her husband Rick of Magnolia. He is also survived by 17 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; half-sister Melissa Jay; half-brother Mickey Todd and numerous other friends and relatives.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 18, 2003 at Schmidt Funeral Chapel in Brookshire with pastor Bill Schwertilich officiating. Interment
followed in Pattison Methodist cemetery.

Peter Achilles Kozakis
Peter Achilles Kozakis (Perry) was born September 5, 1956, in Houston, Texas, the son of Achilles and Rena Catalanou Kozakis. Perry, as he was affectionately known to his family and friends, will be greatly missed by the many who loved him. He was kind, gentle and a passionate protector of animals and children. He loved animals, especially his beautiful collie, Logan. Perry was everyone’s favorite son, brother, nephew, cousin, brother-in-law, and uncle. He was a modest and dear person, the quintessential gentleman. Perry graduated from Westbury High School in 1977. He had a uncanny ability to fix and maintain all things electrical and mechanical. Through most of his adult years he worked on the restoration of a 1965 Pontiac GTO. Perry displayed his organizational skills as the warehouse manager for Joffko International, where his responsibilities included the shipment of construction equipment overseas to various building projects. His services to that company were invaluable.
As a lifelong sufferer from Thalassemia or Cooley’s Anemia, Perry developed an extensive knowledge of medicines and treatments. He also helped the medical world because the efforts of his doctors to treat him led to greater knowledge of this disease and the effective treatment thereof. His family is extremely grateful to the physicians and medical providers that treated Perry over the years, whether at Ben Taub Hospital in Houston, or at Texas Health Care Harris Methodist Hospital HEB in Bedford, Texas, and in all private clinics and doctor’s offices where he received care.
Especially to be commended for their humane care of Perry in his last hours was Dr. Stephen Buksh and the staff of the Texas Health Resources Harris Methodist HEB.
Those who love Perry are consoled by knowing that he is at peace in the loving arms of the Father, but they will miss him nonetheless.
He passed away Thursday, April 16, 2009, in a Bedford hospital at the age of 52. He is survived by his PARENTS: Achilles and Rena Kozakis of Brookshire; BROTHERS: John Kozakis of Houston, Thomas Kozakis and his wife, Svetlana, of Katy, and Gregory Kozakis and his wife, Brenda, of Colleyville; SISTERS: Anna Marie Carlson and her husband, Donald, of Fort Worth, and Chrissy Kozakis of Brookshire; NIECES: Allison Carlson, Rachel Carlson and Ksenia Kozakis; NEPHEWS: Michael and Thomas Carlson, Nicholas, Nathan and Noah Kozakis; COUSINS: Jan Moore and Emily Hollis and their families, and Nicholas Antoniou; AUNT/UNCLE: Tony and Sophie More; numerous relatives in Arizona, California, Florida, Massachusetts, and Greece, and many other dear friends, relatives and caretakers.
Mr. Charles Julius McDonald
Mr. Charles Julius McDonald passed away on April 25, 2009 at the age of 68 years old.
He is survived by his daughters, Laura and Jason Huddleston (Chattanooga, TN), Kara McDonald (Knoxville, TN), Deborah McDonald (San Antonio, TX), grandsons; Caien Huddleston and Cadyn Huddleson and sister; Karen and Charlie Brown (Aurora, CO)
Charles is preceeded in death by brother Stanley McDonald.

Shunell Lacole Mathews
On October 9, 1971 a baby girl was born to Cedar and Charles Lewis in Sunnyside, Texas whom they named Shunell Lacole. She grew up in Sunnyside community. She attended school at Royal I.S.D. where she graduated in 1992. She was pronounced dead at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital on May 24, 2007 following her nephew’s graduation.
Shunell was employed at the Royal I.S.D. Transportation Department and Early Childhood Center. She was a faithful, devoted worker who loved children and always wore a smile on her face.
Chunell confessed her belief in Christ at an early age at Mt. Zion C.M.E. Church. An active member of New Prairie View Baptist Church in San Felipe, Texas, she worked with the youth department, sang in the choir and also worked helping in the pastor aide committee. Her vision was to see the New Prairie View Praise Team grow.
On August 22, 2000 she united in marriage with marvin Lee Mathews, Jr. She leaves cherished memories of her to her beloved husband Marvin; a wonderful mother, Cedar Marie Thomas and a loving step-mother, Janet Lewis; two daughters, Franchesta Jerrels and Sharionna Mathews, both of Pattison, Texas, who attend school in Royal I.S.D; one step-daughter, Myeisha Mathews of Mexia, Texas; two loving sisters, Evangilist Tonya Scott of Pattison and Charlene Hogan of Prairie View; one Godsister, Yatosha Burton of Rosenberg, Texas; three brothers, Thomas Penrice of Brookshire, Texas, Cedric Penrice (Deronda) of San Felipe and Danny Vanduren of Monaville, Texas; three step-brothers, Dejuan, Justain and Delma Hudson of Rosenberg, Texas; and a host of neices and nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, family, and friends.
She was preceeded in death by her father, Charles Lewis. She had one Godchild, Xavier Evans, and two Godmothers, Willie Bee Hamilton and Shirley Joiner.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church, Pastor Lee Jones officiating. The eulogy will be given by her Pastor, Louts Garcia of New Prairie View Baptist Church.
Deacon Willie B. Banks, Sr.
Deacon Willie B. Banks, Sr., 82, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, May 22, 2007. He was born in the Pattison/Brookshire area, and has remained here throughout his life.
In his demise, this loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, is preceded in death by his lovely wife of 62 years, Jemmie. He leaves to mourn four children, Willie Banks, Jr. of Illinois, Oscar Banks, Sr. of Houston, TX; Joslyn Banks-Harris and Madelon Bluntson of Brookshire, TX, and a host of family and friends.
A faithful member of St. Paul Baptist Church for 38 years, he served as Sr. Deacon, Director of Building Visions, Sr. Saints Honoree, Pastoral Study Devotional Leader, Member of the P.C. Branch Educational Scholarship Committee, General Finance and Pastoral Care Committees, and Co-Captain for Texas/Louisiana Day. He retired from building construction (35 years) and Waller County Road and Bridge (15 years).
Funeral services will be held June 2, 2007 at St. Paul Baptist Church at 1335 Waller Avenue in Brookshire, TX at 11:00 a.m. Viewing will be held one hour prior to services. Public viewing will be held at Singleton’s Mortuary in Hempstead, TX on June 1, 2007 from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m.
Eva Elizabeth Rayborn Bundick
Elizabeth Rayborn Bundick, born Sept. 24, 1912 passed away on March 15, 2007.
Graveside services for Eva Elizabeth Rayborn Bundick, 94, of Caldwell are set for 2 p.m. Sunday at Bundick cemetery in Smiley.
Arrangements are under the direction of Koenig and Strickland in LaGrange.
Mrs. Bundick died Thursday at Brazos Assisted Living Center in College Station.
She was a schoolteacher for more than 45 years and belonged to numerous organizations.
Survivors include three daughters, Jo Fruge' and Tom Althaus of Caldwell, Yvonne and John Nash of Lake Jackson and Ruth and Randall Hughes of Georgetown; a son-in-law, Kenneth Vance of Sulphur, La.; a brother and sister-in-law, Pete and Nadine Rayborn of Weatherford; three sisters, Jo Webb of Slaton, LaVerne Riley of Albuquerque, N.M., and Johnnie Phillips Kouhtek of Huntsville; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives.

John H. (J.J.) Reinhardt II
John H. (J.J.) Reinhardt II passed away tragically in an automobile accident March 18, 2007.
JJ is survived by his parents John Henry and Kathy Reinhardt; brother, Kevin Reinhardt and wife Lanette; sister, Janice Jenkins; nieces and nephews, Dylan & Kameryn Reinhardt & T.J., Daniel and Jessica Jenkins; numerous other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, March 22, 2007 from 5-8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Canon Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 23, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Waller, Texas with Pastors Edd Wunderlich and Jeffrey Marsh officiating. Interment
will follow at St. John’s Lutheran cemetery.

Steven McDowell Schmidt
Born September 9, 1954 in Houston, Texas, Steven McDowell Schmidt, Sr. was the son of Milton Henry and Racheljane McDowell Schmidt. He grew up and attended school in Brookshire, graduating from Royal High School in 1972. Steve attended Sam Houston State University for one year, then left to attend Commonwealth College of Sciences. While at Commonwealth, he was employed as the night-man at Settegast-Kopf Funeral Home in Houston. After his graduation from mortuary school, Steve joined the family funeral business, serving his apprenticeship at Schmidt Funeral Homes in Brookshire and Katy, eventually becoming the owner of Schmidt Funeral Home in Brookshire.
He married
Donna Pfeffer on September 19, 1976 at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville. They made their home in Brookshire where they have been members of the First United Methodist Church. In August 1985, Donna joined Steve in the family business, and, on April 20, 1986, Steve and Donna opened Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville.
Active in community and county affairs, Steve volunteered his time in numerous organizations.
A former Brookshire City Councilman, he had served as the city’s representative for the Houston Galveston Area Council. He had also served as President of the Royal FFA Parade Committee and in various capacities in the First United Methodist Church. Steve was a director of the Waller County Child Protective Services Board and for a number of years he was a volunteer firefighter serving as Fire Chief with the Brookshire Volunteer Fire Department. Steve was a member of the Bellville Lions Club, he had also been a member of Austin County Crimestoppers, and had served as the Waller County representative for both Texana MHMR and for the 100 Club. He was a director for the Brookshire-Katy Drainage District, a dual member of the Brookshire Masonic Lodge #1066, AF & AM and the Bellville Masonic Lodge #223, AF & AM, and a member of the Brookshire Chapter #652, Order of the Eastern Star. Steve was also a member of both the Texas Funeral Director’s Association and the National Funeral Director’s Association.
A devoted husband and father, Steve was particularly proud of his two sons, Steven and Ryan. He taught them the importance of family, God, and service to others, and instilled his love of competition in both of them.
He also raised them with the understanding that “quitting is not an option.” Steve enjoyed attending their sporting and school events while they were growing up, and he treasured the times spent hunting, fishing,and traveling with his family. An avid runner, he also enjoyed playing ping pong and arm wrestling. “Wednesday Night” with his buddies was the highlight of each week for Steve, especially after he was diagnosed with cancer.
Steve passed away Saturday, February 24, 2007 at his home in Brookshire at the age of 52 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He leaves behind his wife of over 30 years: Donna Schmidt of Brookshire; SONS: Cpt. Steven M. Schmidt, Jr., U.S. Army, Iraq, and his wife, Dawn, of Deland, Florida, and 2 Lt. Ryan A. Schmidt, U.S. Army, Korea; mother: Rachel Schmidt of Brookshire; brother: Milton H. “Hank” Schmidt, Jr. and his wife, Sandy, of Katy; and SISTERS: Marian Lane and her husband, Art, of Virginia Beach, VA and Carol Rupe and her husband, Robert, of Katy. Also surviving Steve are his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Milton and Carole Pfeffer of Bellville; sister-in-law: Jan Barnett and her husband, Jack, of La Porte; numerous nieces, a nephew, other relatives and many dear friends. He was preceded in death by his father.
All of Steve’s “Wednesday Night” buddies served as honorary pallbearers.
A Prayer Service was held Wednesday, February 28, 2007 at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Brookshire, Texas with Dr. Roy Taylor, officiating and Dave Harris, assisting.
Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 1, 2007 at St. John Lutheran Church in Bellville, Texas with Pastor David Henske, Pastor Jennie Jones and Father Timothy Bucek, officiating.
A private family graveside was held in the Pilgrims Rest cemetery in Bellville.
