Mary Belle Newton
Mary Belle Newton, 81, of Houston died Monday, November 10, 2003. Mary was born December 2, 1921 in Brookshire, TX.
She was a deeply devoted and loving wife and a truly exceptional mother. Her family was her joy and she had a great capacity for friendships. She was a gracious hostess and a marvelous cook. Her guests always left strengthened in body and in spirit. Mary was a graduate of Katy High School.
She married
Richard Allen Woods on July 14, 1938. She was a member of First Methodist Church in Brookshire,TX, and thereafter a member of Grace Presbyterian Church, where she married
Oscar L. Newton, Jr. on November 10, 1979. She was past president of Parent-Teachers Association in Brookshire, Girl Scout Leader and a Cub Den Mother, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 652, of which she was past Worthy Matron.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, and two brothers. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Oscar L. Newton, Jr; children, Richard Woods, Jr. and wife Lynda of Katy, TX, Darryl Woods and wife Beverly of Harper, TX and Deborah Woods and husband Jim Yates of Houston, TX., step-daughter, Amanda Arnold of Del Ray Beach, FL., and stepson Frank Newton of The Woodlands, TX; and numerous grandchildren; and a remarkable loyal and loving friend and neighbor, Mrs. Ada Harmison.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, November 14, 2003 at 2:30 p.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church, 10221 Ella Lee Lane, off Westheimer @ West Belt, with Rev. Dr. David G. McKechnie officiating. A reception will follow in the Fellowship Hall.
Mary had requested that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the charity of your choice.

Shirley Mae Mikeska
Shirley Mae Mikeska was born May 18, 1926 in Belle Rose, Louisiana. The daughter of Murray F. and Clara Mae Rodrigue Landry. She was a Catholic by faith.
Shirley was united in marriage to Walter Anthony Mikeska on November 26, 1946 in Louisiana. After their marriage they made their home in Houston for many years. They moved to Brookshire in 1991.
Shirley took great pleasure in reading and taking care of her grandchildren.
She passed away on Wednesday, September 24, 2003 at her residence in Brookshire, Texas at the age of 77. Shirley is survived by her five children; Barbara Childress, and husband, Chuck of Utah, Kay Roush and husband Ted of Schulenburg, Walter A. Mikeska Jr. and wife Sharon of Navasota, Harry V. Mikeska of Missouri City, David Mikeska and wife Jenny of Brookshire; 17 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother Clara Mae Landry of Louisiana and one brother Murray F. Landry, Jr. also of Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her father and husband.
Funeral service were held Saturday, September 27, 2003 at 10:00 a.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Brookshire with Father David DuBois officiating. Interment
followed at the Pattison Methodist cemetery.
Pallbearers were Adam C. Smith, Joseph R. Gibbs Jr., Glen W. Dowell, Larry W. Mayberry, J. Greg Hovas and Perry Strauss. Honorary pallbearer was Scott Hobbs.

Gladys Wills
Gladys Wills, age 75 of San Antonio passed away peacefully at home on September 14, 2003 in San Antonio.
Born in Houston on March 12, 1928, she grew up in Waller County, Tx and in Brookshire. Gladys graduated from Katy High School in Katy, then attended the University of Texas, worked in Houston, where she met and married
Robert E. Wills Jr., a petroleum geologist, on April 5, 1952 and shortly thereafter moved to San Antonio, where they lived most of the past 50 years.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who left us with a smile.
She is survived by her daughter; Robin Wills, son Bruce Wills, daughter-in-law Mary Wills, granddaughter Lauren Wills, brother John Rheman of Jackson, MS, sister Mae Dell Kohler of San Felipe, Tx, sister Kathleen Klausmeyer of Brookshire, TX and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation was Wednesday, September 17, 2003 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral service was conducted on Thursday, September 18, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Interment
followed in Sunset Memorial Park cemetery.
Lester Ray Hoff, age 59 of Waller, passed away on September 17, 2003.

Michael Howard Perez
Michael Howard Perez was born July 21, 1948 in Sealy, Texas, the son of Howard Franklin and Helen Bernice Kocurek Perez. He grew up and attended school in Brookshire, graduating from Royal High School in 1964. A 1972 graduate of the University of Houston, he was a member of the Phi Delta Chi Fraternity.
A contract pharmacist by trade, Mike had worked at various pharmacies in the area over the years including Brookshire Pharmacy in Brookshire and Ray’s Pharmacy, Al’s Pharmacy and Hess’ Drug Store, all in Sealy. He had also worked at Al’s Pharmacy in Wallis and Eagle Lake, Mark’s Corner Drug in Columbus, Save-On-Drug in East Bernard and the Medicine Dropper in Katy.
A lifelong resident of the Brookshire area. Mike was a member of the First Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening and photography in his spare time.
He passed away Sunday, September 7, 2003 at his home at the age of 57. He is survived by his sister: Patricia Ann Perez Schlottman of Brenham; brother Jerry Perez of Conroe; nieces and nephews: Helen Schlottman Martin, Wesley Brian Schlottman and William James Schlottman, II, all of Spring. Troy Wayne Schlottman of Eckert, Colorado, Jill Diana Covell and Sarah Ann Covell, both of Hawaii, and many other dear friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service was held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, September 12, 2003 at the First Baptist Church in Brookshire with Reverend David Thomas officiating. Ashton Kelley Lipscomb
Ashton Kelley Lipscomb was born August 29, 2003 in Katy, Texas, the son of James Robert Lipscomb Jr., and Bliss Leann Dunson Lipscomb. He passed away suddenly September 8, 2003 in Brenham, Texas. He is survived by his parents: Bobby and Leann Lipscomb of Brookshire; and his sister: Beth Strobel of Houston. He is also survived by his grandmother: Vicki Dunson of Houston; and grandfathers: Duane Dunson of Houston and Lonnie Williams of Brookshire; and numerous other relatives.
Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 13, 2003 at the Schmidt Funeral Chapel in Brookshire with Reverend David Thomas officiating. Burial followed in Pattison cemetery.

Hazel Irene Finch Peek
Hazel Irene Finch Peek was born January 27, 1914 in Iola,Texas to parents Joe and Willie Mae Oden Finch.
A member of the First Baptist Church in Sealy, she made her home in Katy, Sealy and Brookshire for a number of years. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, and enjoyed taking on the role of care giver for her family.
Hazel passed away Sunday, September 7, 2003 in a Sealy nursing facility at the age of 89. She is survived by her children: Evelyn Waggoner and her husband Frank of Jacksonville, Deanie Chollet and her husband Gene of New Braunfels, Virgie Williamson and her husband Wayne of Durango, Colorado, Bobby Peek and his wife Penny of Sealy, Jerry Peek and his wife Carol also of Sealy, Patsy Schmitt of Weimar. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister: Alice Mlcak of Santa Fe, Texas; and numerous other friends and relatives. She was precede in death by her parents, daughter JoAnn Holden, brothers Joe, Odell, W.J. “Shorty”, and Buel Finch, sister Allie Duncan, son-in-law Arthur Schmitt, granddaughter Michelle Peek and great grandson Greg Daniels.
Funeral services were held Monday, September 8, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Brookshire with Reverend David Thomas officiating. Interment
followed in Pattison Methodist cemetery. Pallbearers were David Chollett, John Lange, James Lednicky, Donald Schmitt, Shannon Peek and Marvin Ulrich.
Ana Lopez Lara
Ana Lopez Lara was born May 17, 1992 in Guanaquato, Mexico to parents Joaquin Lara and Virginia Lopez Lara. The family lived in Mexico until coming to Brookshire in 1996. Ana was as student in the Royal school system. She loved reading, loved babysitting and taking care of younger children and she loved being a child.
She passed away August 24, 2003 in a Houston hospital at the age of 11 years, 3 months and seven days.
Survivors are her parents: Joaquin and Virginia Lopez Lara; brothers: Joaquin Lara, Jr., Geraldo Lara and Carlos Lara; grandparents: Maria Dela Luz, Serapio Lopez, Beatrice Vega and Silverio Lara.
Friends called at the Schmidt Funeral Home in Brookshire from 8 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 28, 2003. A graveside service was held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday at the Carrington cemetery, with Father David DuBois officiating.
Rosendo Davila
Rosendo Davila was born March 1, 1927 in Brookshire, Texas, the son of Rafael and Maria Palacios Davila. He grew up and attended school in Brookshire.
Rosendo was employed as an assembly worker in the manufacturing industry. For the past 50 years he has made his home in Houston. A Roman Catholic by faith, he enjoyed singing and playing his guitar.
He passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2003 in a Houston hospital. He was 76 years old. Rosendo is survived by his children: David Davila, Daniel Davila, Diane Davila and Norma Davila, all of Houston. He is also survived by his brother Nick Davila of Ohio; numerous other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
Rosary was recited at 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 29, 2003 at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel in Brookshire. Funeral Service was held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 30, 2003, also at the Schmidt Funeral Home Chapel, with Father David DuBois officiating. Interment
followed in the Fulshear Catholic cemetery.
Pallbearers were Rafael Davila, Jr., Raul Davila, Tony Davila, Chris Davila, Joe Davila and Paul J. Davila.

Homer Longenecker
Homer Longenecker age 91, of Pasadena, Texas passed away Wednesday, August 27, 2003 with family and friends by his side. Homer was born January 19, 1912 in Birmingham, Kansas. He had resided in Pasadena for the past 60 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Velma; his brother, Howard Longenecker and son John Hovis. He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Beulah; children and their spouses, Lois and Jim Thomson, Mary Dell and Dee Garn, Bruce Hovis, Sybil Morrison, Richard Hovis, Diana and John Gardner, Mark and Robert Hovis, Susan Smith, Donna Hovis; 24 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren; and brother, Justin Longenecker.
Homer settled in Pasadena after being discharged from the U.S. Navy where he served during World War II. He worked for Hughes Tool Co. prior to opening a general accounting business in 1954 which eventually became Longenecker and Thomas, CPAS in 1962. A graduate of Kansas State University, Class of 1935 with a degree in business, he became a Certified Public Accountant in 1939 Homer was active in the community as a member of First United Methodist Church of Pasadena, the Pasadena Noon Optimist Club, and a Life Member of the Salvation Army. The Academic Administration Building at San Jacinto College, South Campus, bears his name and the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce named him Citizen of the Year” in 1975. His life was an example of his dedication to the scriptures.

followed at Grand View Memorial Park.
